flash any of the kernels based on ICS through recovery and then reboot recovery.. don't reboot the phone, just the recovery and then flash the ICS rom you want..
personally I am using semaphore kernel but there are others available like Glitch, Devil, Midnight etc..
what do you mean by reboot recovery... i just tried to flash the teamice but failed with an error (bad)
flashed a cyanogen nightly and up and running but cant import my contacts from my microsd card
would rather get teamice runing as i hear good things about it

in the CWM recovery there is an option to reboot recovery..
the cyanogen nightly you installed is CM7 or CM9?
was cm9. all fooked again now. tried to recover to stock that i had backed up but stuck on splash screen now and when i go to cwm i get a whole list of unable to locate **** come up.
plan now is go back to library tomorrow and reflash the stock GB rom i have and go prepared with an ics rom
so question is how do i avoid the (bad) error i got with the last time i tried and also had a fail with 2 lines quoting signing errors
cheers everyone
its a ball ache for me having no pc and having to go to local library

Have u checked whether signature verification type thing is on, I think you can change that just before you chose the zip from SD card, it should be one of the options, you reboot recovery by going to the advanced option and clicking reboot recovery.

The unable to locate **** is because ur from is on the wrong boot loader, that's how I understand it, the only way to fix that is to reflash stock gingerbread with boat loaders using odin, I used a android soul guide when I had that problem after doing the same thing as you. I don't know if xda has a guide but the android soul one was simple and easy to use, just Google how to flash gingerbread 2.3.3 GT-I9000 the android soil and u should get the guide, remember u want the one with bootloaders.

OK, so I installed dark knight 2.1 on my captivate to make it 4.0.4 and I did everything right ( like go into cwm recovery, then wipe data , and cache, but when I want to install the zip for dark knight it won't work... it just says error and installation aborted... any help... ps. I'm running build 16 of ics on my phone
android > iPhone
Try re-downloading the ROM and reflash it again...Sometimes a bad download will prevent it from finishing and also what BL are you on?

I did..... like 3 times...
android > iPhone
Did you wipe Cache Partition as well and what BL are you running?

Unzip the file on your computer and go to /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script and open that.
Delete all lines before the first line that says
show_progress("0.15, 1");
Then save and rezip and flash.

Is it that "Error 7"? I remember when I first tried THS Build 15 that zip in their first post for the Error 7 fix helped me out, and after that I could flash every other rom easily because of that little fix, have you tried that?
I had the same problem, I had to flash kk4 and make sure its the one that says repartition, only thing that worked for me

If boot loader is what u mean by "bl" I'm running galaxys-bootloader-jvb.tar.md5
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
That is the I9000, it is recommended to use I897
But if I use that boot loader will I still have the ics. Rom?
android > iPhone
And I tried what u told me and it said installing update, then installation aborted... no error just installation aborted
android > iPhone
Do this..RE-Flash the THS ROM B16 and that should put you on ICS 4.0.3 with its partitions already formated. Then go through the procedures of wiping cache and ect.. and then flash DarkKnight.. Try that method and see if you can go that route. If all else fails Odin back to stock and try again. I don't see how you keep getting errors unless there's something not compatible with DarkKnight that its rejecting the install.

I agree. I don't have a problem jumping from this ROM to Dark Knight's. Hmmm? Sounds like a incompatibility issue with a previous install of some kind.

The screen shot are pretty much all I have installed on my phone.. cm9 build 16, Google apps v.7.01,drak knight edited like u told me to do it, and something called suffix which Im not sure if I have it installed, and anything else u see
android > iPhone
and if it matters, i dont have any other versions of dark knight installed on my phone...

I am sorry to say but since u dont ve recovery u need a pc...
Yes you need a PC and software like odin/heimdall to flash some FW or at least anything containing a working CWM recovery. As soon as you get CWM recovery working you can go from there and flash to whatever you want.
can anyone recommend a rom to flash in the format for odin that contains cwm with the install

I recommend the good old 10.2 Darky Ressurection Edition, just follow the instructions in the OP:

Well, next thing is going on. I have installed many roms and every time was a succes. Never ever went anything wrong. Now i am trying to install ics roms, cmw gives an error when he is "opening update package". I have tried cm9 build4 and paranoidandroid latest version. I wipe cache, factory set, then i format system and mount system. Then install from sd card and chose update package. What am i doing wrong¡!!

Few times ago, I got the same problem and I think I solved it with an update of ClockWork Recovery Mod
I downloaded rom manager from app store and hit the "flash clockworkmod recovery" . Then there came a list with phone models, but the gt-i9001 wasnt included, so i chose gt-i9000, i hope that wont be a problem. Next i went into recovery mode, there i saw i was using feamod 1.4 based on cmw 5.5.0.4. After little bit of googling i found that this is the latest cmw vesion... So i backuped my current rom (BlazR ultimate). Wiped everything, format system, chose zip from sdcard and tried the kang version of cm9. Also tried the cm9 normal build4 and tge paranoidandroid but all failed. Just for trying i tried to flash the blazR Rom again, wich has firmware 2.3.6, but this went perfect. So how can it be that my cmw only flashes non-ics roms?
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda premium
Nevermind. Allready solved. The feamod cmw recoverys dont support ics.. soort i flashed team win recovery

Hi XDA im new there i was looking for this issue everywhere but doesnt seems like its somewhere
when i installed Jelly bean i had fully working device but i pressed lock button and there it started when i want to unlock it i have screen like this
dl.dropbox.com/u/55724162/DSC_0885(.DOT)JPG
I used 3 versions of CM 10 JB
Still same issues and my Recovery is CWM 6.0.0.8
Thx in advance
Cant use link but i think its important to see it so please be nice
What specific tab do you have?
Edit and what rom
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
I have P7310
Tested these jelly beans:
cm-10-20121111-UNOFFICIAL-p5wifi
cm-10-20121025-UNOFFICIAL-p5wifi
cm-10.1-20121222-UNOFFICIAL-p5wifi
and in everyone i got this issue right after first attempt to unlock from sleep mode (via lockscreen)
same AOSP_14-01-2013_Beta-14 P5wifi
Well your picture doesn't look good, can't do much on it can you? Does it only do it on the cm10 roms? I'm not sure what to tell you but I'd try fixing permissions in your recovery.
What recovery are you using and how did you flash it. Factory reset, wipes, etc
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Bassicaly i did all wipes then instaled rom then Gapps and then rebooted
Like i said my recovery is this Clockwork_Recovery_6.0.0.8_GT-P7310_alternate
And if you flash the stock rom it doesn't do it. You might try that to rule out hardware issues
Edit: found someone else who had a similar problem. There is an issue with the boot loader. If you odin the stock rom and then flash the cm rom. That fixed it. You'll of course, have to reinstall your recovery and root.

Just tried one stock rom and it says
Finding update
Opening
Installing
Inslalation aborted
// I got that its ok to moment when i push lock/unlock button . When i had it on Charger i saw the battery ok but after i pressed lock it goes scattered/distorded like i show u picture. I really dunno what this is but im going via backup back to my gingerbread *SADNESS*
Where did you get the stock rom? Go to sammobile.com for it. You have to register, but it's free you'll download a zip file. Use 7-zip to extract the .tar.md5 file from it. Use that in Odin, PDA.

You need to be using an older CWM.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'you did that'. You did what? Use an older CWM? Did it install the zip properly? You need to be more specific. The 8 failed boot will not work without the stock recovery installed. If you just want stock back, use an old recovery to flash the stock ROM zip I have linked in item A15 in my NC Tips thread linked in my signature.

You said the stock recovery zip failed when you tried to flash with an error about the number of arguments. I suggested that you use an older CWM. You said you tried that. But you did not say if it installed then without the error message. And you do not describe what it does when you try the 8 failed boot procedure. And did the stock ROM install complete successfully?
What are your symptoms? What does it boot to?
