If I format the SDcard in CWM, does that also mean it's going to remove moboot, and my boot images, etc?
Someone wants to buy my Touchpad for a decent price and I'm tempted, but I also don't want to leave any personal info on the internal memory as I've used a few Android ROMs on it, plus WebOS.
Or do I have to go into the SDcard itself through a file manager and delete things that look personal?
Factory reset and format SD card....it won't affect your boot images and moboot.....as they are in system memory

No, the /sdcard partition that it formats is the /media/card partition - Moboot and all of that is located in /boot.

Hello,
I was wondering if such a thing as described in subject exists.
I am looking for something which wipes everything but the CWM bootloader and the sd card directory.
The option is already there in cwr

Is it cenwesi? I know the wiping section, but for instance there's no option to format or resize the /recovery partition for example.

if you format the recovery you would lose CWM. A data wipe should be suffient, if not plug it into a computer and delete everything on the "sdcard"

thanks, I now have 13 Gb available, is the rest taken by the recovery partition? is resizing an option?
(pls forgive me for being ignorant
I think the devs would have to put a wipe script in their ROMs so the user doesn't have to do it manually. At least that's what the devs at my smartphone's forum (Vibrant) do. Albeit, sometimes it is best to do some manual cleaning, and TWICE at it (the system isn't infallible).
what does these commands in mount & storage of cwm recovery do?
format cache (is it same as wipe cache?)
format system (is it same as factory reset in cwm?)
format data
format preload
format sd card
format emmc
does it hold significance to perform any of these operations during a full wipe for installing a new rom.
Some answers in here.

even thought its now called obsolete, I still perform those steps catered to my n7000. As posting suggest a bit overkill, but did prevent a load of issues cause installs are overkill clean.
At own risk of course and best from safe kernel. Id recommend it to everyone going from gb to ics, from ics to gb or even between customs roms.

format cache (is it same as wipe cache?)Yes.
format system (is it same as factory reset in cwm?)It will format your system partition. You will not be able to start your phone unless you flash a new rom
format dataThis will format your data. Same as Factory Reset)
format preloadI hope this is for preloaders which loads before starting the OS.
format sd cardThis will format your Internal SD Card
format emmcThis will format your External SD Card.
Wiping Cache/Dalvik/Data is required to perform a clean install of new rom. There is no need to use these commands unless you want a completely new phone without data (Including Internal/External SD Card).

note sometimes emmc and sd are switched, I think in some roms this is the case. I always suggest to take external out, just in case Been there done that
edit: and some kernels
Cleanest install possible for best experience in my opinion
Note, a lot of people do this but always read first post and thread of rom, just to be safest

unfortunately i realized that way too late, after formatting Sdcard (External card in my case). leaving me with a blank emmc (supposedly internal sdcard).
So the title says it all. I'm looking to clean house a bit and just delete everything on the internal memory and install something from the sdcard. I normally just do a factory reset and wipe caches but there's remnants of passed ROM installations and general clutter that still linger. I saw the options to format emmc but chickened out before doing it. Will this do as I describe or is it something else entirely?
Thanks in advance!

Just did that recently on the Nook and have done that multiple times on other tablets. But I normally have an externalSD hooked up (with all the files I need).
Once I formatted the whole nine yards and was in a panic until I realized I could take out the microSD over to the PC to get the files back on, plugged it back and
reboot the recovery to get back.
That's pretty much what I was hoping would happen. I'd just have my new ROM and gapps on the sdcard and flash from that in recovery after formatting everything on internal memory.
Groovy, thanks.

If you are installing a new ROM on emmc, you do not need to format /system with CWM, the zip does that for you. The only thing you want to do in CWM is wipe data/factory reset. That formats /data, /cache and clears the dalvik cache for you. It will leave your internal media files intact. Be very careful with formatting anything else. It can brick your device.

Hi,
I'm using a HTC one, which is rooted, s-on, unlocked. I'm also using maximus hd 13 rom.
I want to completely reset the content on the internal sd card. I already tried to format the card via cwm wipe and during aroma installer using full wipe. But afterwards my sd card is still not clean, all the stuff from before is still there.
How can I get rid of those sd card content?
thanks in advance,
Chris
Well I can tell you from experience that it's a lot easier than I thought it would be. I actually use TWRP and what I do is install the Rom I want...then format the sd card in recovery and reboot. It's that simple..at least for me. Now for cwm I think there's the option for to format sd..not just wipe..but I can't remember the setup off hand...I'm thinking the process would be exactly the same

Hi,
I've installed maximus 13 an hour ago, doing all wipes I found
I also use the factory reset in the android settings.
At the moment I'm looking for format options in cwm and I found the following in "mounts and storage menu":
- format /cache
- format /data
- format /sdcard
- format /system
- format /external_sd
- format /data and /data/media (/sdcard)
should I try these options? If yes, all of them? In which order?
I can't imagine that it could be so difficult to get your sd card clean

okay, I've done so and it looks good. Do I have to reflash the maximus rom now or is it possible just to reboot the phone and everything will work fine?

Just reboot. U should now have a clean storage.
The others (system and data) would wipe your Rom and user apps.

Ok When I switch ROM's I notice I have alot of files and folders left over from previous ROMS. Is there a way to completely wipe the internal Storage and install a custom ROM from my micro SD Card?

I believe that custom recovery like CWM or PhilZTouch can do a full wipe.
In recovery, go to mounts and storage, and select format /data AND format /data/media (/sdcard).
