Self-rebooting ROM's and solving it with an older ROM. - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Since a view month i have an HTC Dream G1. I have bought it second hand aleady rooted.
It had Hero ROM on it. And it was awfully slow. So i have looked around and found an ROM (froyobylazslo) that supposed to be good combination of recent and pretty good working (ok speed) ROM. But it was still rebooting sometimes. So i looked around once more trying to find older ROM so that it would work faster and stabler. And came across ginger yoshi. Tryed it to. And it rebooted to sometimes. I also had downloaded older cyanogen builds. 4 and 5 but they dont boot up at all. Maybe it has something to do with the radio that i have on it or something.
Here are the things like radio and spl that i have on it:
DREAM PVT 32B SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.33.0013d (DREA11000)
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.27.08

Any suggestions how i can get back to some older ROM? I guess it has no sence to unroot the phone to be able to do it? And i guess i just need some good radio version that would be compatible with and older ROM? Any Donut / or maybe Eclair stable ROM u can suggest i can install? Or what do i have to do to be able to install CM 4 or 5 on it?
Thanks in advance,
Nikolai

you have a ram hack created by your spl(1.33.0013d)
older roms will need a custom kernel flashed above them.
try searching for super e -- download this one
now search in the developers forum for ezterrys thread on the 2708+ update
here you will understand what you have and why you dont want to get rid of it (dont unroot or change radio/spl)
you will also find kernels that can be flashed over older roms
try the biffmodtestkernel
i feel you should be happy after this

basically this 2708+ thing i did myself, because fbl needed that. (it had something else before) But i dont clearly remember what it was again. ill check the super e (i think this is not the first time i hear about that).
cheers

Have questions can anyone help?

I am running JF 1.51 with app2sd. I am really wanting to try the magic rom. I have the latest radio that was required to update to cupcake. I am nervous about updating the SPL because I accidently install the radio twice on my last G1 and it fried it. Is it worth the switch? If so how do I change from JF and then go to the Hero rom? I have found some stuff but nothing on switching SPL from JF to any other without bricking my phone.
Thanks in advance....
Sorry not magic rom HERO ROM.
Make sure your phone has the PVT board (it will tell you in your current SPL screen). If you do, I recommend this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3816278&postcount=3
I followed to a "T" without any problems.
Good luck and a little positive energy toward your fone never hurt You will need the newest SPL to load HERO due to the size of the ROM. I know some people have piece-mealed their on HERO builds making them smaller than the orig Haykuro one, but I think they all still require the newest SPL. Just remember, more than just a couple of people have bricked their fones flashing this SPL...
Aloha-
That just seems odd to me I am not sure... So I should have JF 1.51 on one card and the SPL on the other? Which goes in first. I have the JF boot loader now. How do you know what SPL you have? Can I update from one to the other without bricking?
Hold camera then power and the SPL screen will come up and tell u what version u have (if it's rainbow screen you are still on stock). There are many threads dealing with flashing the SPL. Check Haykuro's blog also. I don't want to give some information and someone have bad results. So I recommend reading all that u can before you try.

These are a good place to start. U might need dig around a little, and I recommend reading a lot. Don't try it if you're not comfortable.
Ok thanks I will do some more reading... I have stock then... When i rooted it it was the rainbow... Thanks again.
Ok Want to check to make sure...
This iis what I got on the Rainbow screen...
DREA100 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
Radio-2.22.19.26i
So I should be able to follow that first tutorial you sent becuase I take it that this is a PVT board.
One last thing If I do update the SPL can I stay with JF builds if I decide too?
Anyone? I have been searching and I can not figure out some answers. Like if I do not want to update to hero now and stay with JF can I? Or if I do in the 2 card tutorial on updating SPL can I have hero already or since I am on JF 1.51 now do I have to stay with it then after done wipe then install hero rom?
Changing the SPL will not limit you to a specific ROM so you should be able to run Haykuro's 1.5, JF's 1.5 (including all variations) as well as HERO etc... Some ROM's larger size necessitate the use of the newer SPL because it's smaller (the SPL that is). Also need to remember that once you commit to the new SPL, you cannot downgrade the radio as per Haykuro. Be careful moving from the stock SPL to the newest one. I'm not sure if there could be any problems, you might search for something related to that subject. Also, what's really great about using non-stock SPL's is that they allow the use of fastboot to reflash the .img's created by the Recovery console. Which means once you have a good stable ROM on your fone, you back it up and play with your fone all u want (pretty much) knowing that u can go right back to the "good" build you backed using just 3 simple commands from fastboot. Good luck.

I'm sorry if this is covered somwhere..

I have never gained root. I tried a couple nights this week and failed ultimately. I never really wanted to root my device, but i REALLY want Eclair and don't want to buy a MTSlide. I am running a Pvt device and have a 2.22.23 radio and i know when i downgrade to RC 29 i will HAVE to do DeathSPL. But what i am quite unsure of is, can i go right from RC29 (Android 1.0) to the Eclair ROM, or do i have to do the others in order to progress up TO the ability to get Eclair?? Help pleeeeeeease!!

Just read ANY of the many guides on how to root your phone, and ALL of your questions will be answered probably in that 1 document...
check here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684101
most ppl here knows the answer but we all want you to read and ask in the proper thread
you just created a new thread in the wrong forum.. just in case you didn't noticed
FYi: most Eclair and Sense Rom are larger than stock SPL soo, most likely you'll need haykuros SPL, later on you'll learn how to flash a large Roms on stock SPL
good luck!
Moved as not Android Dev.

Few questions for the smart :p

I have been reading so much but i have some holes that i would like to fill if possible. i had a g1 back in the day and rooted it and flashed it and so on. well i just got a used "rooted" G1 recently and am trying to get back into it but i have some questions that i cant seem to figure out. first of all this is what the G1 is saying, what does this mean, is it hard spl or soft or?
Dream pvt 32b eng s-off
hboot-1.33.2005 (drea10000)
cpld-4
radio-2.22.23.02
Im basically just wanting to test out 2.1 or 2.2 on it but starting in the middle is more confusing lol
Its an Engineering-SPL (IIRC)
you dont need to install Danger / Death SPL to install 2.1 / 2.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717874
You're G1 has an SPL supported by all ROMs and the latest radio, so you're all ready to go CM6 (Cyanogen Mod 6) is a Froyo ROM, try it out.
So yea thanks for the quick response i did install cm-6 but i cant find the android market mabey i mist something?

[Q] Helping a buddy flash his dream...

Hi All,
Okay, I have been banging my head against a brick wall with this for a while now, so I have to admit defeat and ask some questions...
A friend of mine has a Dream (or, at least I think its a Dream (nightmare))...he wants to make use of the Apps2SD to allow him to store more apps.
I followed most of the links in the Informative Thread and did a lot of searching but I am having difficulty all over the place, basically nothing seems to work like it should.
So my first question is: Is this phone already rooted?
Details:
Android Dev Phone 1
Firmware 1.5
Baseband 62.41S.20.13H_2.22.16.19
Kernel 2.6.29-cm [email protected] )
Mod CyanogenMod-3.6.6/xdan
Build number dream_devphone-userdebug 1.5 CRB43 148830 test-keys
(This phone is an import bought in HongKong, so I think it is normal that the local reseller flashes non-stock ROM's to support the various languages needed in this region, but I am not sure...)
I am an HD2 user myself, which I have flashed it several times and I consider myself fairly technically skilled.
Basically all I need to get this done is a helping hand to point out the steps I need to follow to flash a fairy new ROM (froyo hopefully) that supports Apps2SD, (even a simple numbered list of steps would be great, I can find the info needed to completed the steps if I know what to look for).
The weirdest thing seems to be that the majority of guides I have read rely on me being able to hit enter twice and input commands, but hittin enter twice does nothing on the device...(baffled).
It just doesn't seem to conform to any of the expected results from the steps provided in the guides...
Anyways, I am sure someone here can help me out. Just some steps to put me in the right direction would be great!
Thanks in advance!
Whatever
Firstly the fact it runs cyanogen means its rooted already, oh and next time provide the bootloader info (spl and radio versions)
Secondly press home and power and see if you have a custom recovery, its either going to be amon ra or clockwork.
And last but not least is the hitting enter twice to access the telnet, I'm gonna guess that in the guide you used it states it wont actually do anything other than possibly bringing up contacts and then you just follow the rest of the guide as you should have done instead of waiting for a magic window to open that never will. Maybe the guide you're following doesn't have the above warning but if you had used google you could have compared the information with the hundreds of how-to's.
Nice one...
Okay, yep, this is making more sense...
I guessed that when I saw Cyanogen it was a custom ROM, but for the dream there seems to be lots of different meanings for "Root", anyways thanks for highlighting...
SPL & Radio details coming!
When I powered on holding the Home button I think I got a pic of a mobile with an exclamation mark. I could use Alt+<a few different keys> to do stuff, but nothing seemed to work...I assume this would be the stock recovery? So my first step would be to flash clockwork yeah?
Once that is done I can just grab a ROM from the forum and flash from the SD card like I would for my HD2 right? The Ext3 partition itself is fine, I can do that on my HD2 with clockwork.
Basically I am looking for a pretty clean stock Froyo ROM that supports Apps2SD. From a bit of browsing I picked FroyoByLazlo 5.2, would you recommend any others over this one? As I mentioned before my buddy just wants to be able to use his SD Card to store apps, I think his current ROM is a cupcake...
Actually - I think the thing that has thrown me most is that there are sooo many guides, all of which are slightly different!
Thanks very much for the help man, I really appreciate it.
Whatever

Looking for advice/help with flashing Sapphire

Hey everyone, Its been well over a year since i picked up my Sapphire...i decided I wanted to try to get it up to GB so i tried a couple different roms and each one i tried to flash basically told me that it couldnt find the script file. Found a thread that said to flash a different recovery and after that i cant get back into recovery! I can however, still get into fastboot. Below is the info I am seeing
Sapphire Unknown 32A ENG S-off H
Hboot-1.33.2005 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
Radio-3.22.20.17
APR 20 2009, 15:3043
Can anyone direct me to a GB thread with simple instructions that would work for me? I would imagine that i have to flash a new recovery, but at this point i have no idea which files to use. I really have no preference on the GB ROM, as long as its fairly stable and basic. I've flashed roms many times, updated radios/spl etc but i just cant get my head back around where im at with this phone since ive been with my dell streak for awhile now.
Probably you want to try ezGingerbread. Your current SPL should be supported. I don't know what kind of recovery you have installed, but there is not a specific recovery required. Unfortunately I do not know much about Sapphire / 32A, but Terry for sure can help you if you have problems. The ROM is auto-kernel, i.e. the appropriate kernel for your phone will be installed automatically.
