After a unsuccessful flashing of Semaphore 1.0 kernel for Slim ICS, I lost my recovery access. I tried to flash an old 2.3.3 rom (XXJVH I think, official nordic firmware) with Odin, but it failed several times. Then I managed to flash an XXJVU (European value pack) rom, but phone couldn't recognize my SIM card. I tried to flash JVH again, and it failed again. Then I reflashed XXJVH, and now my SGS would recognize SIM card, but all the APN settings are gone, and I can connect to internet only with wifi. I'm planning to flash CWM to my phone and then Slim ICS again, but will the APN settings be restored? I also considered restoring a nandroid backup of my old, working XXJVH.
Which option should I do? Does nandroid backup restore my APN settings, or are they stored elsewhere?
Also, can the APN settings reappear after flashing Slim ICS or some another rom?
Your apns will usualy include in ics roms.
For jvu you can flash jvh csc. Or you can type in your apn manualy.

So, if I flash ICS, the APN settings can "mystically" reappear?
Just go to settings > wireless & networks > mobile networks > access point names then press menu button and add APN. If you don't know your APN settings just put to google your operator name and APN.
Thanks for advice for both of you! I flashed ICSSGS and APN settings were restored automatically. Case closed.

So i used odin to flash my captivate...Now my 3G network isnt working. Instead of 3G it shows an "E" next to the bars which i assume stands for Edge and I am not able to connect to anything using it D:
Are you on Rogers or AT&T? As far as I know no ROMs have the proper APNs for Rogers, and that could be your problem.
I have had the same problem, you have to manual put in the apn setting for Rogers or At & T. Once you have them back in, use apn backup and restore, a free app to back them up.
how would u manually put in the settings?

No need. I'll attach my Rogers APN backup.
Download APN Backup and Restore, then extract my zip file into the root of your sdcard (So the full directory will be /sdcard/ApnBackupRestore/whateverthexmlisnamed.xml). Launch APN Backup and Restore, then hit Restore APNs and you're good to go!
I want two install darky's rom just thinking though if i do will i lose network provider setting that would mean no signal or no network,am on o2 uk network provider. And ave installed cwm and cfroot just need two install darky's rom 9 extreme, but dont want two install if i lose network setting, any help is gratefull.
Thanks Mark204
I havent used darkys rom before but just from reading his post it says it will wipe your phone unless you already have a previous darky rom installed. So that means it will factory reset and therefore yes you will lose your APN settings. APN settings are only for data and mms. voice will always work.
However, APNs are easily put back - just search google for your providers APN settings.
Thanks for your reply, ave installed darky's rom no probs everything works ok

hi, i just flash this.
no data connection, probably the modem doesn`t support Norway?
or you think it helps to wipe?
used odin, can i flash another modem in this stock rom?
is the odin file "phone" the modem?
thanks for help
After reflash, the APN settings are gone. Try to set up your APN back if you know the settings, it's under Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names.
yes, i`m online. thanks
u can use either odin or jus simply flash via cwm
Hi, I was on HellyBean Rom, opened an account with Net10 BYOP and configured the APN settings, everything seemed to be working fine for a day or so, Then I decided to set a lock pattern on my security settings. after locking the device to try it out, it got stuck, rebooted and got stuck on the boot up animation (dimming on and of), never came out, so I erased everything and re-installed the rom. when i entered the same APN settings i didn´t get the data back, other than that the WiFi and phone seem to be working fine, I upgraded to the lastest HellyBean version, and now switched to the AoCP CP 4 Rom, all with the same results No Data! tried to toggle the airplane mode, verified the imei with the imei behind the battery.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
Thanks.
Try flashing a modem again. If that doesn't fix the problem, dial *#*#2263#*#* and make sure all or the required freq bands are selected.

Thanks uhm, i flashed a new modem as suggested, actually thanks for that I got better reception at home, but apparently that dindn´t fix the data network, then i tried to dial *#*#2263#*#* as soon as i dial the las * the whole number dissapears but i dont get any menu.
Any extra help would be appreciated, this is the first time I go into the modem updates/options.
Try flashing a gb stock rom like uckk4 from the master thread and then flash corn kernel tar so that u have cwm recovery too. Then flash the rom you want from cwm recovery menu. You could try data connection in stock rom before flashing another rom.
Ok so I can call, text, use wifi and everything but I can't access mobile data... I read elsewhere about APN settings but I havent been able to find APN settings in any setting menu. Am I going to have to flash back to stock? I really don't want to do that out of fear since I bricked my phone earlier today flashing C-RoM. I don't have a backup of stock so that's not an option. Did this happen to anyone else and if so how did you fix it?

Are you on the 24a baseband?
Did it flip you to Global instead of CDMA/LTE by any chance? I think it is under the mobile data tab in settings.
