Ok i know and have seen that there are many experienced users in this forum, so i give you this!!Pls help sum1!!!
I think i bricked my fone, tried to get cwm 3 on it, then while rebooting, it wont reboot. went into download mode with odin (3 button fix) (i have done this 9-10 times before, not a noob to this), selected pit and tar and hit start. odin stuck on factoryfs and fully orange screen on fone. removed battery, fone, usb, odin restart, tried again, yellow screen. again. red screen. now got frustrated. tried normal odin(not the 3 button fix), again yellow screen.took out battery to try again, but fone wont start/go in dl/recvry mode anymore. tried on 2 different comps with xp/win7. no go.
SCREWED??
BTW, i ordered a jig.should arrive by end of week.
It'll be fine after you get your jig.

same thing happened to me...but i just got it replaced..as there was no way i could wake it up...but try Jig..or just get it replaced...every captivate is under warranty...tell them u were doing official Froyo update and lost electricity or something....
yes will try that and post.
In the meantime, can sum1 pls run me thru the steps to install custom ROM on preinstalled froyo cappy? My prev 1 was stock eclair, i filed 4 insurance and am sure the new 1s gonna b stock froyo. I have heard that there are a no. f probs with stock froyo phones????
Its a semi uncommon problem.I have had the random colored screens before and had to pull battery. Managed to get odin to work after a couple of times

flash to stock using full Odin(full odin to avoid loosing 3 button combo), flash CWM.Zip....flash any froyo custum rom
or just flash the fix for sign verification (its somewhere in the threads) then you can avoid flashing to stock....just flash CWM and Custom rom

YEA, I THOT SO 2... JUZ WANTED 2 VERIFY, WAT ABOUT WEN CHANGING ROMS?do i need to flash to stock every time, or can i just take a backup f froyo stock using cwm?(sorry 4 the caps...)
Most of the custom roms don't require flashing to stock now a days. But if its mentioned in the instructions than I would do it.
But definitely you should disable lagfix and stuff before flashing over new rom.

If u flash any zip from stock froyo it gives you sign verification error. So u need to fix that a nd than just flash custom rom as u normally do

Sounds as though your bootloader got hammered.
Yes, as another posted, with 3e recovery you'll get a signing error, but there is a workaround, depending on your device and ROM you're using to have files pass through as if it were on 2e recovery. Another method is if one passes files that are unsigned. (only load if it's from a trusted source)
Is it possible you performed a nandriod backup before this debacle occurred?
If so, try a restore from recovery with your last nandroid backup. This should restore the bootloader and correct partitioning on your disk.

inncidentally i did do a couple of nandroids before "all the **** hit the fan". and i could use it to restore. but how? my fone simply wont turn on, neither go in2 recv/ dl. so how 2 restore???????
all 2.2 have 3e recovery, custom roms built on 2.2 come pre cracked.
here is the 3e recovery fix. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213
it works on all 2.2 stocks with 3e.
if you are rooted using "one click root 1.7" (NOT ODIN ONE CLICK!!!) you dont need adb commands just root explorer to mount and replace file. or use adb to mount and push file. the instructions in the thread have the 2 methods mixed together.
no offence but ignore Liv33viL on this one

Dude, that's just plain wrong. Let each person decide on their own who's advice to take and who's to ignore. It's an open forum and we all have the right to share our knowledge and experience. The focus here should be helping people get the assistance they need, not to diminish someone's credibility based on a personal opinion.
In short, grow up.

ok, but then do u mean my bootloader is not damaged? can it be still repaired by using jig? can i restore nandroid?? but how 2 do so since my fone wont turn on at all?
What happens when you do turn it on- nothing? Or does it hang on the boot screen?

I had the very same problem. Your bootloater is boogered up now. I sent mine to an xda member and he fixed it.
Even with a jig I wasn't able to do anything. My phone would go into d/l mode with it but that was all it would do.
I paid $50 to have mine fixed which in my opinion is well worth it. That doesn't include shipping costs. I had connexion2005 fix it for me. He a great guy and does very fast work. It beats buying a new phone.
Hope this helps.

All shameless advertising aside, it's worth trying a fix where others give up and pay someone. Through the process of elimination we can determine if you need professional help lol!

Thanks guys..will try connexion when the jig fails.

N does anybody know what to do, as my newly arrived cappy has a distinctive yellow tint to the screen. Do I call samsung and ask for a new one? Or is there some method to fix it by software?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Ok I was trying to flash new rom...so I flashed to stock...I used Odin3 V1.0 with 3 combo fix....but after the process finished in Odin...and it showed Reset....my phone should have rebooted right? But it didnt reboot...just got dead...I removed everything and tried to start it no use...even used jig...but its no responsive...I am not panicked (as it was my experimentation phone)...but trying to find what to do in that case...battery was full too....
Sorry for another "bricked phone" thread....
You get nothing at all even with a jig?
You may have fully bricked it. I know a person that can probably fix it if you want to put the $ into it. If not hopefully someone on here can help you.
The guy that fixed mine is known as connexion2005 on xda. He does the rom reviews on youtube.
Best of luck to you, I hope you get it going.

Either fully bricked or your battery died. Before you go to the extreme, find someone woth the same phone to charge your battery

it is 1010 build...how to use JTAG? are you talking about the one I saw on Mobiletechvideos website?
hey folks,
i'll be picking up my jig tomorrow, just want to run the procedure by folks to see if things are right. i accidently used the wrong odin and flashed an att stock that has resulted in the att logo boot loop and requires a jig. i had come from miui 2.3.5, flashed the att and got pooched. so the jig will get me back to download mode.
once the phone goes in download mode, use odin 1.7 with stock rogers 2.1 rom.
the only thing i've never understood is the bootloader aspect. will this require any tinkering or are they loaded when i run the stock rogers?
Nah bootloader is fine.
Yea the jig brings you to download mode.
Yes you flash the Rogers rom

great thanks. someone mentioned a master clear? is this necessary?
When using Odin, no
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
so with this being stuck in an att boot loop with no 3 button recovery (due likely to att), is this called a soft brick? from what i read hard brick is when things won't turn on at all, another screen I've never seen is the pc/phone logo. not sure what mine is and how serious...still trying to track jig in toronto
Yes, u r soft bricked.
And when u do get into download mode and run odin with the rogers 2.1 -- that will give u the stock bootloaders also.
U need to use this one --- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11820447
And u will need to select the pit file in this Odin and b sure that the Repartition is selected.

thanks guys much appreciated...just awaiting a jig. only have one usb and didn't want to cut that. no one in toronto will sell theirs as they'd rather repair yours for 75 bucks.....really.... once I hit d/l mode this'll be a 10 minute job if that. thanks for the help will let you know how it rolls.
I soft bricked my Captivate flashing Mosiac over MIUI , finally managed to get it into download mode and ran Odin One Click 2.3.5 but it freezes at setup connection. I've done this multiple times with the same result....Any ideas???
Captivate connection issues help
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
Thanks b-eock but maybe you misunderstood my post. I'm in download mode and Odin recognizes my connection it just freezes at setup connection.
You may want to give a Heimdall-based option a try. Sometimes when Odin won't work, Heimdall will. Just remember to use the phone on the same port where you install the Heimdall drivers.
No I understood completely, that has everything you need...
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
Well, beock is most likely right with the connection issue. Sound like a bad cable.
Second, flashing from an aosp type ROM (which MIUI is), i would not recommend trying to flash bootloaders. It well usually cause a loop, as you found out. Your on the right track. Flash to stock, then any different Samsung ROM you wish.
Thanks b-eock and everyone else who tried to help. I pulled the battery and got the firmware upgrade failed screen and ran Odin from there. Gotta love the Captivate....just cant kill it.lol
Hello! I had the Andromeda 3 ROM on my Captivate and I tried to flash back to stock 2.1... and a boot loop is what I get. When I boot up the phone, the ATT logo comes up for 5-10 seconds and then reboots, and when charging the battery charge indicator shows for 3-5 seconds and reboots. I've tried all the 3 button combos (that don't work) and my JIG is arriving today. So, can someone please help?
Once u use the jig to get into download mode, u can use one of the Odin or Heimdall One Clicks to get back to a Stock base...KK4 is the latest leaked/official for i897...see the Master One Click stickied thread in the Development forum.

it would be better to use the stock KB2 package and then let it upgrade. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1266172
use voodoo OTA rootkeeper to keep root after upgrade.

Yeah, I was looking at that. Now I just have to wait for my JIG to come! My Captivate's been bricked for a couple months and I already upgraded to an Atrix 2 but I don't want my Captivate to be a paperweight anymore.
Thanks, it works now!
