iPad-like Smart Cover APP - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a flip case and was wondering what APP actually makes use of the close to lock and open to unlock feature similar to the iPad. I tried a few APPS and all of them have their flaws. Mostly 1) the proximity sensor is too sensitive and 2) it appears the light sensor on the note is horrible.
It'll be great if someone can give me some advice on this.
Thanks in advance!

There no similar app like that unless u use the proximity sensor because the ipad uses magnet to lock and unlock the device which the galaxy note dont have
And also i found a app called smart screen off for android using proximity sensor close to what ur finding
But correct me if i am wrong

[Q] is the S-Pen is Magic

Either i am going mad since ICS leak has come out or the s-pen can highlight things on the sceen with out touching it?
I tried it out on this forum and if you hover over a thread with the tip of the s-pen about 1-2mm off it will highlight the thread.
i am 99% sure it isnt makeing conact, is there a function or purpose for this?
No idea but i noticed that also on the ics rom.

I am on the same boat. Hope the final ICS releases soon.
I dont know if this affects all phones/pens/firmwares but if I use diceplayer and hover the pen tip at 2-3mm away from the screen it repeatedly registers a screen tap.
same here mine is running 2.3.6
I've tried this before (on gingerbread) and it keeps the device awake in S-memo (maybe outside of it as well, haven't tried it.). But the reason is because the pen is by Wacom and if you've used a wacom digitizer before on a pc you would notice that you can move the pointer around the screen without touching the screen.
The pen is powered wirelessly by a substrate (I believe above the screen), and transmits its location. Now obviously they didn't enable the pointer to show on Android, but it seems like it is being registered as coming into the screen's activation range.
I had same problem before.i change the new from samsung till now no problem.
all the wacom pens actually work like this, the only difference there is that you can't only "move the mouse" so any input registers as a click.
it's probably not fixable outside of a driver update from samsung :x
This is a very useful feature: it's a visual display of what you're pointing at while hovering over the screen, no actual input is given...
If you hold the pen over a link in a browser, you can see the link getting highlighted before you select it...

No, it won't work on La6 - I've only seen it using icecream sandwich

curios, alls ICS leaks dont support S-Pen yet.
And that issue doing inputs without touching the screen is due to a faulty S-Pen.
Replace it, its a warranty issue.
The pen have to be, not only touch sensitive, but pressure sensitive too.
If you press more down, the line you draw got thicker.
im on ics chinese leak but no problem with s pen

[Q] Smart cover functionality

I use a leather flip case for my GNote. I'd like to know if there's any way to let the phone turn on/off the screen automatically if the flip cover is opened/closed. Kind of like the iPad smart cover

Yes, there is one app, check this out. direct link for Google play is here.
I use Smart Screen Off - works well. I bought the pro version but the free one is pretty good. This app is easy to uninstall if you choose unlike some similar apps.

Proximity Screen Off Pro is the best so far, recommended.
Most of application have issue using black flip cover (I have tried at least 3-4 and all have this issue)
White flip case have no such issue, I have confirmed it by placing white paper on my cover then no issue. Though it have nothing to do with application but proximity sensor issue

yes I guess. My flip cover is black and it doesn't work properly.
I'll try your white paper thingy and see

I love active notifications, but...

I can't be the only person who occasionally finds their phone unlocked and doing something it shouldn't be while in their pocket.
I've been trained to keep my screen facing toward my thigh in my front pocket, but it seems that the screen is a bit TOO sensitive if it's managing to trigger a swipe (and open other apps) through my pocket and underwear.
It seems the one feature that I felt like I would REALLY love and may save me some battery is actually ending up triggering my screen and killing it instead.

Yeah this has happen to me a couple times too. It seems to happen more when I generate body heat when walking long distances or at work.
Another similar issue I have is when I'm talking to someone, my phone will wake and listen thinking it heard the touchless control phrase even though I've said nothing similar. Great features, but needs slight tweaking.
I haven't had any of these problems. Do you have a case on it? That could be part of the reason why

Nope. No case or screen protector.
It's been quite warm here though, so maybe that's the issue. I have found it open at the camera once. Odd, as I don't run with a phone in my pocket or anything like that.
Once I put a case on my phone I noticed it was a little harder to use touch less notifications

I had this problem for a day. Once I turned off touchless control, it hasn't happened again.

I've had no major problems because I use a Otterbox, but sometimes I have to touch and hold to hereto the notification menu to come down.

I have the same issue but on a different phone. Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE on CM10.1 with 1min screen timeout in my pants pocket.
I just learn to live with it
But this is definitely a good post to know. Thanks to the OP. Will drop you a thanks.
Either you ladies are wearing pants that are too tight or your peckers are playing with the phone without your knowledge because it's so awesome.

Haven't had this happen at all. I thought I read that the phone could sense when it was covered up (in a pocket) and wouldn't let the screen notifications come on then.
I have the otter box on it and when I put the phone in my pocket there is no problem. Best bet for you is to get a case

Favorite feature of Note 7

Mine is being shipped however what is everyone's favorite feature or design on this new beast?
Sent from my SM-N920T using XDA-Developers mobile app
This is my first Note so everything to me is great. The S pen I love and the screen. The only complaint is I wish the screen was a little wider. I know the measure from the end of the curve. If they would have made it 6in with the curve would have been perfect.

Old phones in my sign.
But the best part of the notes have always been the spen to me.
I had the note edge and it was lovely then the s7 edge was great but i missed my spen.
but im sure your fine alot your like when you get the phone.
Iris Scanner.... That's really cool.
Using the S-pen to take quick notes without having to turn on the phone, That comes in handy.
Being Waterproof saves alot of worry.... I'm in Fl, always around water.
Iris Scanner hands down.
My wife says I've a line for an eye and it can detect my eyes. LOL
Then tried to have my co-workers and friends tried to unlock it and they couldn't :good:
During registration It did ask me to open my eyes Wide, as the first attempt didn't work with normal eyes position.
The new fingerprint sensor is waaaaay better, this one actually works, previous models it simply didn't work right, so I always ended up disabling it.
This one, you simply touch it, and it opens up the home screen as it supposed to do.
Quick frankly the Finger Print works even better than the Iris scan, as it's more natural.
Whenever I turn on the phone, it's always through the Home button.
Coming from the S7 Edge so a lot of features I already had. I do love having my S-Pen back and the Iris Scanner is really cool. However my favorite features is the improved UI of the camera. The camera on the S7 Edge was the best I had used on a mobile devices, but the new interface makes it so much easier to use the extra features. Direct feed to YouTube Broadcasting is great to have.
Maybe not exclusive to Note 7. but the camera's focus speed and picture quality is really great, makes DSLR almost redundant. Of course S-pen is a signature of all Note series and main reason I won't buy another make, but improvements to s-pen are more incremental over previous models, than drastic. Also screen is probably one of the best, if not the best on the market ATM. And water proofing is one thing less to worry about.

Yes, indeed. I live in Florida and Im also a swimmer. Even though Im not planning to submerge this pricey beast, Im always around or in a pool, so a huge extra level of protection
This is my first note device and can easily say it's the S-pen that has me hooked. I've been constantly using it but if I'm not using it im most likely clicking the top of the pen non stop. A close second has to be the iris scanner.

did you setup the fingerprint correctly?
I know the note edge (n4) you had to swipe down which just suck.
The s7 edge was a press one. It work really good.
I always setup my fingerprints by turning my finger 270degs. making sure it gets my finger from all sides. I even go a little above the pad.
Work great for the s7 edge. but yes the note 7 FP is much faster and success rate is higher

Use & View High resolution Front Camera on Unfolded Galaxy Fold

Hello friends, today I have accidentally found new method to view camscreen or anyother application while unfolded state by using a simple magnet (Car mobile holder) placed on the rear side of the mobile.
It will be useful to capture high resolution Selfies using rear cameras just like Huawei Mate Xs, Nubia Z20 and Vivo duex screen models.
Now, we have to find a way to trigger Magentic (Hall) sensor by using Tasker or adb methods without using magnet ? on the back.
a quick question about this,
does this damage anything in any way? or is it "just a magnet" magical thing?
this would be great to use, but also annoying to carrying a magnet around everywhere. lol
Its just the magnet thing. no damage to the mobile on long term use i guess. Be careful not to scratch the outer screen while using the magnet. This is temp. hack. May be in future, mod developers can provide some hack/app to trigger this without using any magnet.
Hello!
Do you know any software based solution for this?
I want to charge the buds while using the front screen unfolded
My latest update has switch to do this on camera app
Yes, for camera it's true, but I would like to use the cover screen while the phone is opened. Anyone on XDA knows a patch/hack by any chance?
What do you mean?
