No boot - Dell Streak 7

I have a very strange issue.
A friend of mine gave me a Dell Streak 7 that he said would not boot. I got it from him and have started looking at it.
When I hold the power button down, the nav buttons light up, but the power light flashes red 5 times and it all shuts off.
I am assuming that it has done this for a while for the guy so I am not thinking that the battery is dead.
I have hit the reset button with a pin, (felt it click) but that did nothing.
Any ideas?

Try recovery boot, fastboot, connect to pc

Tried recovery (vol up and power?) and have the same issue... Nav buttons light up, power light flashes 5 times, and it shuts off....
Also, it is not recognized by a PC...

What charger are you using? Is it the Dell one?
It needs to charge for a long time.

Yep the OEM one... from what I see though, I get no indication that it is charging (no lights when plugged in....)... might be a bad charger....

If you leave it on for hours the back of it will get warm enough to feel with your hand.

Figured it out... It is either the charging cable or the slot for the charger.... If you get the cable in just the perfect slot, it will charge.....
Fun...
Thanks all for the help.......

Buttons light up when plugged in, screen won't turn on

I am having the issue that I described in the title. I have a Dell Streak 7 from T-Mobile. The screen won't turn on, but when plugged in, then buttons on the side light up. I have tried power+vol. up to no avail. I have also tried the reset button, to no avail. Any other thoughts on what I can do to make this work? ADB commands, etc? Thanks.
Let it charge for 24 hour with stock cable and wall charger.

I will let you know tomorrow morning how that goes. It has been charging for 7 hours so only 17 to go. Thanks.
After 25 hours of charging nothing has changed. I still can't get it to start up. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

unplug from charger, hold down the reset button for 2min (has to be exact or the clown will eat you) then try booting normally if that doesnt work, open it up and make sure that the volume rocker isnt pinched down on the buttons (which will put you in NVflash/apx mode and will look the same as charging)

Nothing. I can only get the buttons to light up when it is plugged in. I have plugged it into the computer, installed the apx drivers, so that is done. However, is there something I can do to force it out of apx mode? Some command? Other suggestions? I really appreciate everybody's help.
Hit the little hard reset button with a paper clip.
That doesn't work, send it to be repaired.

Did you get this to work?
Based on your post count, this is probably a stupid question but:
You tried charging in an outlet (not through computer), right? Any under-the-hood work makes my Bionic run hot and burn through the battery.
More technical: I read somewhere that someone upgraded to windows 8 and fastboot stopped working. Windows 7 fixed the problem (if you're saying that fastboot is the problem, not Vol - & power button recovery mode).
Were you in the process of rooting?

I am kind of having the same problem. I recenty got a droid bionic where I had to replace the LCD screen and battery since when I got it it did not have a battery with it. I got an NON-OEM extended battery and every thing was working fine for three days. In that time I was able to upgrade everyting to the latest software, fireware, and Android version (4.1.2 JB) but after those three days the phoe woould not power on. When I plugged it into my computer and tried, the white power light would just blink at me. when I unplugged it from the computer and tried it would not even come on. I thought it was the battery so I sent it back and got an OEM extended batter and a OEM dock/charger. When I got everything I plugged it all in and the screen came on with the Motorola M logo and then showed me a picture of the battery at 5%, so I let it charger over night. In the morning I pressed the power button while still plugged into the charger, the phone light up saying the battery was at 100%. So I took it off the charger and tried to power up. Nothing happened. I plugged it into my computer and the white power light came on and stayed solid but still no power-up. I just tries the Volume Up/Down power while plugged into the wall charger and I can get to the recovery screen and try the normal boot up, I get the Motorola M Logo screen, I just now tried recovery and the little Droid just showed up with its stomach with a red triangle and an ! in it and is just sittin there. and now it when back to the Motorola M Logo screen then the battery screen. Does this mean mine is bricked as well? Please some one help.
Bumping because of no help yet. I can access the recovery screen but does not seem to help any, it also has to be plugged into the wall charger for this to happen but I can not power it up whether it is plugged in or not. Please Help someone so I can get this figures out.
Alright strange thing to try, plug it into your computer, while plugged in take it the battery, give it a minute and put it back in while still plugged in.

Did as you suggest but when I took out the battery. the white light stayed on. Still could do nothing. Waited 2 minutes, put the battery back in and still nothing. All I get is the white light staying on. I unplug from the computer, the light turns off and still nothing, not even the recovery screen will boot up.
Can you get to the fast boot option by holding both volume buttons and power

As long as I keep it plugged into the wall charger I can. When I go there it says "Battery Low Cannot Program Connect USB Data Cable. But as soon as I unplug the wall charger it shuts off and I can not get back to fast boot. When I plug it into the USB cable and plug into the computer, I can not get to fast boot. I just check and it says my battery is at 100%. but when I first plug it in it says 5%.
Your gonna need to charge your battery with either an external charger or the usb charging hack before you can perform an fxz on it

M7 charges for 20 seconds then stops charging

Dear XDA,
I have a fairly annoying problem. The phone is not charging properly.
When i connect my phone to a charger it charges for roughly 20 seconds. Usually it doesnt show anyting at the start. But after a while it shows the charging icon on the display and the led starts blinking. After 20 seconds it stops doing that and after a while it shows the charging icon + blinking led again. Somehow it's in a charging loop.
I've tried different adapters. Different cables. Let it 'charge' overnight. And hook it on to a computer for a hour or so.
Sometimes i can turn my phone on but then it's on 1% and powers off emediatly. It won't charge when it's turned on.
I'm running MaximusHD 46. I have it for a while now and had no problems whatsoever.
The phone is from the Netherlands but I live now in Zanzibar. They have a different power output and the voltage is not stable. Usually i charge it when there is a stabilizer connected. But hasn't been always the case. Could that be the problem?
Thanks in advanced for your replies,
Lennard

This problem occurs all the time? I mean it's the same in all modes like when booted up and running Android, while powered off and while in recovery.
Or only when the device is powered off?
What recovery are you using ? (name and version) please :good:

I have not been able to get into recovery. Basically it's dead in the water and occasionally i can turn it on.
The recovery i use is TWRP. The version i'm not sure of (since i cannot check) but if I think it's 2.6.3.6.

Sounds like a Hardware problem either with the usb port or the battery itself.
A new usb cable may help if you've already tried that there's not much else you can do.
Some of the newer 2.8.x.x versions of TWRP have issues charging while off. But it doesn't effect charging any other time. Have you tried powering on while it's connected t an AC wall charger?

Lint? What do you mean with that? But yeah, I have cleaned the usb port from dust.
And I managed to get into recovery! I tried finding out where i could reset the battery settings... but I couldn't find it . The phone was getting hot so i think it's sort of charging in recovery mode. So i let it be in recovery mode for the charging. Let's see if that works :]

If you can get a little charge in the battery you can try the USB Host Mode reset. Power off the device and hold Volume up+Volume Down+Power. Hold all three buttons for 2mins plus. The device will appear to bootloop while your holding the buttons. That's normal. When you let go the phone should boot up normally.
Test the charging again :good:

I suppose it would be best to disconnect during the reset procedure. But I don't no for sure if it will make any difference connected or not.

[Q] HTC One Charges but Won't Turn On

Hello guys,
A while ago, I was just doing stuff I normally do with my phone. I flashed a ROM and it rebooted normally. I then flashed a MOD using TWRP recovery. As usual, every MOD that uses Aroma Installer has a "Reboot device after install" option so I chose that and then **** happened.
Out of nowhere my One suddenly shuts off (The install was done so...)
I have tried the sensor under bright light trick and my phone does vibrate once but nothing actually happens. Just a black screen and stuff.
Sometimes it does go into this screen where it shows a battery icon with thunder bolt in the middle (Yes I know that is the charging screen. But, I also believe that it acts like a progress bar and it does not do THAT.)
Then again, it dies and it doesn't have the charging LED nor would it turn on.
Help is appreciated. I know basic and complicated android stuff but I can't do any of that if my phone is dead
Edit: When I press the power button for a few seconds, it vibrates but nothing happens. The screen is still off and the charging LED is not turning on as well.
Edit: Okay, when I do get it to charge, it shows that charging screen and when I unplug it, it freezes with the charge light on. The phone is also heating up so that does mean it's charging
Regards,
TAM

No. But I was able to drain the battery and once I plug it in using the original HTC wall charger (which is the one that I always use to charge it.) it charged but the charging LED is blinking (mut have drained it self good overnight) am I making progress or did I make it worse?

It's difficult to say at this point, Personally I would just leave it charge over night. Then try and power it on with Volume Down+Power while still connected to the charger. And it definatly doesn't show up in device manager, not even as Unknown Device or QHUSB_DLOAD? I find that a little odd.
But there are signs of life so I think a good charge may do the trick.

Yes. I did plug it into my laptop's usb ports last night when it still had charge (usb 3.0 if that helps) but it was neither recognized nor visible in the device manager. I hope! I am now charging my phone as we speak. I hope it's not dead too
Okay so...I installed HTC Sync and still nothing. It was not recognized and it's still not booting
Try Windows 7 USB 2.0
just htc Drivers
Try to go to Boot loader and flash firmware
if it show battery with charging sign it means Soft Brick or battery problem
if it showed nothing like no charging light or nothing on screen then its Hard Brick

Then it is probably a soft brick or a battery problem. Because when I got home I immidiately pluged it into the wall charger for it to charge and it charged showing the charging screen with a blinking LED. One more thing, if I press the power button for a few seconds it vibrates and then nothing happens. I am planning to leave it charging over night. Is that a good idea?

I was flashing a MOD then after the installation finished, it asked if I wanted to "reboot now" so I tapped yes then the phone died and it won't start anymore. Yeah but how long should I hold the button? Just to clarify, my phone only vibrates if I hold the power button for a long time. It just keeps vibrating and vibrating

until the lights stop flashing, usually about 12 or 15 times cant quite remember exactly how many times they flash but its quite a few.
I know you said you tried the bright light trick, but you should also try this trick whilst holding down the power button.

Edit: When I plug it in the computer it doesn't show up (I think that's good because it's a sign telling me that maybe the phone just needs a long ass charge). [Q] Totally DEAD Mi Mix

Oddest thing. I was in my car using my Mi Mix for GPS and had it charging while in use. I came to a point where it was fully charged and didn't need to use the navigation anymore so I long pressed power (Epic ROM) and then chose the SHUTDOWN option. Little while later I get home and go to power on my phone and nothing. Nothing at all. Tried long pressing power for over 20 seconds nothing. Tried with VOL UP. Nothing. Tried with VOL DOWN nothing. Tried using a wall charger to see if anything would light up. Nothing. Tried connecting to a computer nothing.
The phone has ZERO damage. Mint condition. For the life of me I have no idea WTF happened to this phone!
Was it hot?, I had this incident happening to mi today, I took a little trip around town and when I got home the phone was off for some reason, I did try to turn it on by pressing the power button a few times and nothing but then it turn on. That was weird, first and I hope the last time.
On my PC I ran the MiFlash tool. The phone does show up on the list when I hit REFRESH but when I try to flash the stock Chinese firmware it fails. It says something to the effect that it can't connect. I get a red error message after a few seconds

Led it's red flashing in power-off mode when battery it's too discharged.
I've had a similar problem.
I've completely discharged the smartphone to test its capacity.
In power-off mode, I've tried to charge the battery with a non original battery charger; result: red flashing for, about, 10-15 minutes.
After this period, I could turn on the smartphone.
With stock Xiaomi battery charger, this problem doesn't appear, because of Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, that can charge rapidly the Mi Mix's big battery.
Are you sure your battery is fully charged? And your battery charger works well?

It means it's flat or faulty battery, tried a different cable and charger, left it over night, battery can die without good reason.
