[Q] S-off HTC Salsa - HTC Salsa

Hey, my sister has this phone .. I want to s-off her phone .. Reason : internel memory .. So which tutorial are working for you? .. If it working, I will try to make cm9 for Salsa

Ok. Best way is to unlock bootlaoder, follow my instructions at WWW.wix.com/BigBearEvo/salsa look under ext3 and follow inseuctions there.
We would like cm7 first really, but a working kernel needs to be built first.
Personally don't s-off its more hassle then its worth. I did it and it caused so much grief its unreal. Wish I didn't s-off really but its done now and I have both s-off and unlocked bootloader.
If u do have any questions please ask. There's not alot I don't know about this phone lol, and I've helped build and test everything we have got.

We would like to make a kernel for 2.3.3 kernel source code?

Source code for 2.3.3 is available at HTC. But most of us use 2.3.5 based Roms and they haven't realwaed that yet.

personally don't, i s-off my phone because it was the only way last yr.
and what a damn headache it was.
Take for Example.
1-you have s-off by XTC Clip and you want to unlock your bootloader or use adb cmds.
No Chance. you have to figure out away of modifying the HBOOT update to allows your HBOOT to update itself, took me weeks to do this.
The clip writes a file which disables the ability to update anything., it will give you s-off which is technically the same as Unlock bootloader.
Also everytime u run the Clip program u wipe your phone....inc recovery!
2-You have nothing done.
You want to unlock bootloader and then s-off
Bad idea.
To unlock bootloader u goto HTC Dev and get it done there...safe simple and fast.
So now you have an Unlocked bootloader and update HBOOT, great u can now do everything you want......so u want to s-off.......ok fair enough, u unlock it by the XTC Clip, now you have to rewrite everything you did in the previous paragraph just to get back to where u want to be....inc the possibility of redoing the updater you just did via HTCDEV.
Result being.....if you want to Pay $$$/£££ for the XTC Clip, be my guest, just dont come crying when you just lost everything that was in your phone! and wasted money for something you won't benefit much from!
result being.
XTCClip = Waste of Money and some serious problems for noob/and juniors with no knowledge of what there doing.

Hey guys, excuse my noobiness. I haven't ever done anything to a phone before (you know, besides use it). My HTC salsa is driving me mad with its low internal storage.
Could someone pretty please explain to me in layman's terms the best way to root it? All I want is to convince it it has more internal memory (the SD is 32GB) than the ridiculously small amount it has and/or allow free movement of all apps between the two.
Thanks in advance

OK so I seem to have developed minor intelligence, I found the HTCDev page but when I click on my device and click to begin the process nothing happens. *Sigh*

Would you happen to know about how long it takes to script? I'm just woundering because I hate the new update and would like to root(s-off) and then flash a rom. I liked sense but want vanilla-android. Thanks again for your helpful post. I'm not asking if you know an ETA or anything like that, just from your experience.

Really don't know that info, however if you want to get root but don't want to wait there are other ways to do it. Let me know if you are interested and I will post them up. Consider though it will take longer than it would using the toolkit.
megatronisabeast
I'll try pretty much anything. I've rooted several devices, so findind a new way for another one won't hurt. Only thing that I really would like to do is avoid making a gold card, but if you have to do that I think I will wait for the toolkit. Thanks!! Do you know if it's possible to temp root, flash a kernal with cwm, and then flash a rom?
Here is what you need to do to root your phone, etc.
First thing is to download android sdk:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
It will allow you to send files to your phone from your computer-no s-off so can't flash kernel in recovery only fastboot.
While that is downloading if you haven't already you need to unlock boot loader by going to:
http://htcdev.com/
Don't forget to keep the unlock code so if you need to relock your boot loader.
Next, it sounds like you want to flash a custom rom. If so the best one in my opinion is found here:
http://www.wcxxperia-nce.com/index.php
You have to register to see the vivid section.
Once there you will download the zip file, put a copy on your phone, the other copy unzip and place the boot.img and wcx recovery in the same folder that you have the fast boot file that you downloaded earlier from sdk.
Then you put your phone into hboot mode, plug it in to usb port, make sure on phone screen is says fast boot usb in red.
Then open command prompt in your folder with fast boot by clicking shift and the right mouse button.
Type in these commands:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery wcxrecovery.img
After those steps power down phone, unplug from computer, return to hboot, click on recovery, then flash the zip file that you placed on there earlier.
That's it, you got it root and all.
Also if you do use his rom, restart phone 3 times to settle phone in and cycle battery 3 times to make sure everything is working correctly.
Here is a video if you feel overwhelmed to help guide you brought to you by randong!

Hope this has helped you!
You can use wild child's recovery to perm root ics check it site for the video if you need proof

We just need S-OFF so we can simplify this entire thing by using CWM. It's so much easier being able to flash a scripted .zip package in there than dealing with fast boot.

True, I just wish I knew how long "scripting" takes. I know the video is very clear, and that I'm very good with technology, however I do think that there is a good chance I might mess up...thus I believe I will wait, but I will do some more research be4 deciding what to do

I've never done it myself but it shouldn't be that difficult. I think I'm just spoiled coming from the Inspire - it was rooted, S-OFF'd, and had a few custom ROMs up the within a couple days of its launch. The level of development for that device was extreme from the very beginning.
Sent from my HTC Vivid
True, I still have an Inspire and the development is still booming. I personally just wish HTC would have made the Vivid as dependable as the Inspire, bc my Vivid has all sorts of problems. Turns off randomly, and each time when it turns back on it says "upgrading android" and then it optimizes the apps for ICS. Most of the time it won't flip my pictures(rotate)<--yes auto rotate is on...but all in all HTC went down in quality with the Vivid. Personally this is why I want to root, that way I don't have to worry with HTC screwing up the update.
it does work but i have found that busybox isnt installed/installed correctly and have had to install it from the market for titanium backup to recognize my root.
A reply to numerous posts...you don't need S-OFF on the Vivid, developers have yet to figure out how to do so. It's rumored some users have received their phones shipped with S-OFF, but to my knowledge it's not because of any modifications.

[Q] Noob Rooting? removing carrier bloatware

hi people,
new to the forum, never realised this site existed, thankfully im now a member of this great information community
i am new to the whole rooting phones and software blah blah,
i currently have a htc incredible s with optus (australian software) on it,
now i am wanting to remove all the bloatware and just put a standard htc software on the phone that will allow me to upgrade to ics when it comes out in june for my model phone?
now i am not interested in customizing the rom or flashing it with any other aftermarket software, i just want to the original on there,
please note i am noob, and i have tried some of the methods already suggested, but still not having any luck,
so can some1 please shed me some light and explain to me how to do this in a noob manner please?
any info is appreciated
thanks
What methods have you tried?
HTC boot loader unlocked?
Lynts guide?
Novers tool ?
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium
i have tried a program called revolutinary or something, but bare with me as i am very noob,
if you have any other easy methods, id highly appreciate it
Hi dont worry i started off as a noob to so dont worry!
I am also with optus! YAY!
I need to know your hboot version and if you are s - off!
Here are some noob steps!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Go to Menu (The third button from the left on the buttons at the button). Then click Settings. Then goto Applications. Then uncheck the box called 'Fastboot'
2. Turn off your phone (If you don't know how to, unlock the screen and hold the power button until a menu pops up, then press power off/shut down!
3. When phone is completely shut down, hold the volume down button and the power button, (Hold it for a few seconds). A screen should pop up.
4. Note down all the information and private message me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This will show me what method you need to use. So Private Message me A.S.A.P!
Every Australian with an Inc S nearly is Optus lol
OPTUS IS HOPELESSSS COMING FROM TELSTRA
Sorry just wanted to vent my frustration
Anyway if you root, you will not be able to install the OTA. Whichever method you use. Apart from temp root, but it will be lost after reboot.
If you want to root, whichever way you do it (I recommend Revolutionary), you will be able to install an ICS custom rom, assuming one will be made.
Just a warning if you wanted to root now and install the update later on
That is not possible :/

Just like you I was new to this also. I used Revolutionary which seemed fine for me. The one piece of advice I could give you is follow the instructions to the letter, I jumped steps, root failed.
Tried again this time more slowly and hey presto it worked and my phone is now rooted and S-Off.
As for roms just search these forums under your phone and read em, do the research first cos that will really help you later on. This made my phone loads better and got rid of the orange bloatware that I really hated, hence looking via google on these forums for options.

True, but do not attempt it unless you know exactly what you are doing and the risks it involves.
The bloatware on optus is ridiculous, NONE of the things I ever used. Just sitting there looking stupid in my app drawer, wasting valuable space and ram
That said, I would rather have an unrooted stock phone than a bricked one lol

Revolutinary will not work with HBOOT 2.00.0000. You need to do this method/procedure first before you can use Revolutionary.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373697
The other option is to unlock the bootloader using the procedure at HTCDEV.com and then flash ClockworkMod recovery and then finally you can flash su-3.0.7-efghi.zip to root the Optus ROM. Then you could use Titianium backup to cleanup the bloatware.
u might have to explain it a little better for me pls, as this is my first time doing this, like i said in the op + the download is a dead link my friend

OK I hate to be so blunt, but it sounds like you need to do a lot more reading and studying about your options and how to perform the procedure before you continue.
The days of simple one-click rooting for noobs on an IncS are no more my friend.
You need to understand how to use the Android SDK tools such as adb.exe and fastboot.exe in order to root your system these days, so I suggest you begin by reading the sticky posts in this forum and then find out how to use adb and fastboot.

Hey folks, i know that for some, unlocking bootloaders and rooting for the first time can be a bit overwhelming, so i put together a video, walking you through step by step. I hope this helps at least 1 of you

My issue is that I want to flash the 1.29 OTA onto my EE-branded 4G HTC One. I've downloaded this version: OTA_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.12-1.28.401.7_release_315849_signedp7vl8dqsvls0h1t0.z ip from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2207874. I have attempted to Flash my own recovery, but am unsure as to which .img file to use and also which option in the bootloader to select. I've searched all throughout these forums, but to no avail
If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

So, there is no way to root this device without unlocking it first? I've also read that after you unlock, you loose some apps & obviously OTA updates......4.2.2 is rumored to be out for this device any time now. Is there anyway to preserve those apps, possibly update phone (even manually) or just root without unlocking?

you won't loose any apps if you unlock, you will lose all of your files though... and you can still receive OTAs is you are unlocked, you just need to have the stock rom and a stock recovery...
Success (relatively painless)
I'd like to add my success story as a hopeful note for other noobs who are sweating it.
I'm a complete noob with recovery and rooting. Luckily I had the distinct advantage of skipping the whole bootloader unlocking sequence, thanks to having the Developer Edition whose bootloader comes unlocked. (I wasn't sure if I should use Hasoon2000's T-Mobile kit, since I'm using a T-mo SIM, or if I should use his generic HTC One M7 kit, so I chose the latter and luckily it was a good choice.)
I studied this video tutorial by TheSmokingAndroid, took notes, watched it again, said a little prayer to the green guy in the sky, watched some more tutorials, read some tutorials, read 50 pages of xda forums, panicked, de-panicked, steeled myself, then watched the video again. Then I dove in.
While not every step had the exact results that TheSmokingAndroid depicted in his video (combination of user error by me and the HTC One apparently being somewhat finicky), while not every step was an exact match, a little persistence and staying calm resulted in full root in about 1/2 an hour once I actually got started, and no major calamities.
So thanks TheSmokingAndroid and thanks Hasoon2000!
(If you're a noob, consider making a small donation like I did to keep these guys going.)
Happy rooting.

I receive tons of PMs and can forget who I responded to, since I am on my phone majority of the time. Anyone is allowed to make a video using my toolkit. I just do not permit people to repost my work on another site. All official toolkit threads will be on XDA and all the toolkits will be uploaded to ONLY my Dev-Host account. I do not authorize mirrors of my toolkits (since anyone can just repack it with a virus and blame me for it). However, my apologies if I did not get back to you. Hi, I recently unlocked my bootloader and rooted my HTC One and flashed the cyanogen rom. However, I want to now go back to the original software that came with my phone, but I did not backup my phone on twrp recovery. I do not care about my user data, I just want to go back to HTC Sense. Could anyone help me go back to the factory default os reset? Also my phone is from T-mobile if that helps.
I'd personally like to know how to pull the stock recovery image from my device for later use, rather than using someone else's. I've already searched but I'm directed to the stock recovery image already posted here. Isn't there a way to make the image flashable rather than pushing it through with ADB?

What must one do to simply use greenify?

Hey everyone,
Im on a fully stock one, unrooted and everything, but I wish to use greenify. I've been looking around and there are many many tutorials on how to root. Each one us different, like revone, Im so confused! What do I have to do?
For now, planning on staying in a stock rom. As well, I wanna flash this:

Please and thankyou!
Actually revone is a method to take security off your phone ..then you cam root...the simplest way is unlock bootloader(this will full wipe your phone back **** up!!!) Then flash a recovery then a rooted Rom or simply flash root
Revone will be easiest and best for s-off and then rooting is child's play. Head ove to Revone thread for instructions.

Youll have to unlock the phone via htc dev site if you are not on a developer variant of the device, flash a custom recovery, I know twrp can root the device for you,not sure about cwm...As far as wanting to flash that mod, Im 99.9% sure you will need to flash a custom rom as well,as the mod is most likely deodexed and will not work with an odexed rom which would be what your using.Greenify just requires root i believe. And revone is not the easiest way to unlock the device, can easily screw up the phone.IF unfamiliar with adb commands use the htcdev site to avoid issues until your more comfortable.

[APP/PORT] Xperia Honami i1 / Z Ultra Launcher [UPDATED-2013.07.13][v5.0][Multi Rez]

Please and thankyou!

S-Off is NOT needed for custom roms, kernels or recovery flashing, based on what your wanting to do and being new to adb commands etc, use the htc dev site. In the custom recoveries AFTER unlocking bootloader and flashing one of them, its pretty straight [email protected] backing up the current rom installed.

Thank you both! When you sat backup, it's just saving your files and maybe using go backup right? No nandroid possible until after unlocking bootloader correct?

Rooting itself seems easy, shouldn't be a problem. Well I could use twrp, which is better, that or cwm? Yea I'm not so good with adb... I get confused a lot, esp with spaces and characters... Like is there a space or whatnot.. long story lol
Yea I had an HTC sensation with greenify.. can't even remember how I rooted it hahaha. But the dev thing seems the way to go. Would you please be able to explain to me what odexed /deodexed means? Thanks!

If you don't know what s off is you don't need it yet... Do some more research and etc...but for now head over to HTCdev.com and then flash cwm or twrp..then you can simply flash a stock rooted Rom or whateve you may wish...
And for quaestion about back up...just back up anything you may want to your computer ...sd contents will be formatted with unlock

Typically, a rom is supposed to be odexed for smoother and faster loading of apps into memory. Each app(.apk) has a corresponding sister file(.odex). When a app is opened, called to memory, the. Odex has the information needed to start loading the app. A rom that is deodexed has only the.apk file. So when it is opened/called to memory the information to load the app is inside of the .apk and and must be pulled from it to begin loading it into memory. So at this level you would probably ask "then why are most custom roms deodexed?" People really started deodexing roms for themability. It is much much simplier to theme roms that are deodexed. It wasnt for faster speeds but for easier customization. So "themers" could build custom themes instead of have to build a whole themed rom. So now on one side you have odexed for speed, or deodexed for customizations? Well the brilliant devs in the android world came up with pretty good solutions to even out the field. In most any custom deodexed, youll see that they zipalign all the .apks in boot. While boot up time will be slightly longer, zipaligning optimizes every. Apk on every reboot which basically optimizes the information in each. Apk so when it is called to memory, the information is at the ready and quickly loaded witbout the need of a. Odex file. I kinda rambled here but wanted to answer this one as best i could because i kno many people wonder, and not a whole lot always ask. Hope this helps explain a little bit for anyone curious.

Awesome, thank you! Such a helpful community haha. And could I flash the Xperia stuff on a non-deoxed Rom but use zipalign? Am I getting this correctly?

No,if the mod is deodexed, the rom must be deodexed

Simple and straightforward, thanks!
revone can be used to unlock, you don't HAVE to S-Off with it.

[Q] unroot failed, what now? I want root access!

Hey xda, im a but of a noob, so sorry if i did anythign stupid. Ok so a while back, I had rooted my HTC Incredible S and he phone was a
beast for me. It was fast no lag what so ever, the mods were sick and The kernel I had allowed me to orverclock. I was so happy! Until one day my USB port broke and I
wasnt able to charge the phone or connect it to my pc. So i had to find a way to unroot it so that I could bring it to my carrier and they will fix it, I was still under warranty.
So i Tired and tried and i was not able to fix it and then someone told me to use the TEMP UNROOT method im superuser and see what happens. I did so but I was still
S-OFF and could see so in the boatloader screen I believe its called. So I took it to a technician who fixed it for 20$, I was pretty happy because my phone was now working.
Now i found a way to unroot it, I had to download the stock carrier rom wich was Android 2.3, i had to download it, rename it to PGM32.zip or something like that and put it
on my SD CARD and there you go, my phone was back to stock. Now the problem is, I still have S-OFF. I cant even LOAD UP IN THE SCREE NWHERE YOU FLASH ROMS! I forgot the name of it , you guys should know what im talking about!
SO I came to XDA for help and someone said to me that i have to go back into the superuser settings and uncheck. Now when i go in the
settings, the box is not checked and i cannot check!
When I click on it, it doesnt do anything!
And whatever root app i use, It doesnt work it says there is no root access and also , Superuser keeps saying outdated binary file and i cant fix the problem -_-
Someone please help, I want to root it back because the phone works and Stock is very laggy! I want to flash roms like before and have a powerful phone! This thing sucks like this, someone please help, I will do anything!:crying:

As another poster told you, you will first have to flash a custom recovery and then you will be able to flash either SuperSU to gain root on your current ROM or flash a new custom ROM.

You need to reboot the phone to the HBOOT/bootloader screen and then put the phone in FASTBOOT USB mode.
From there you will be able to open a command window and type the following command:
fastboot flash recovery [name of recovery.img]
