Looking for ROMs and Files! - Shift Development

Is been a while, eh? Anyways I am betting someone out there still has copies of a ROM or maybe some of the various rooting, flashing, SPL, or even driver files out there. If so, help a friend in need!
I got a shift, was a gift from someone who used it 3 times. Battery is shot so ebaying one and a stick of ram so I can stuff windows 7 on it, but I want to play with the SnapVUE side too. Send me a PM, post it here, toss it online and link it!
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Very nice gift, morganlowe, enjoy it!
What's wrong with the links or attachements on this forum leading to the various ROMs, SPL and flashing files, drivers, etc, are they dead or did they disappear?

Yeah, most are dead. The hosting sites used deleted files and such from lack of use.
My hope is someone still has something laying around. I can build a ROM but thats a pain and more effort than I really want to spend, plus I would have to go digging for the kitchen to cook it in.

Hi,
I'm experiencing the same problems.
All too many dead links.
Regarding most of the other stuff I found my way to files anyway on my pursuit to newly set up my shift from scratch, even if no newer links were reposted in threads.
But regarding custom roms, I simply found only dead links, even if links were supposedly been fixed in the meantime.
I wouldn't even mind to do the liberating myself and stuff, found the files for that.
My Issue is It already is liberated and got a simplified chinese Rom for which I find no german or english replacement, now that I moved on, and would like to propperly set up the device.
Already registered at romeOS and contributed, just to find no rom there either in downloads.
If someone still has a working rom that could be uploaded here, that would be really nice, and would make me most certainly quite glad right now, as I would really, really like to replace the chinese rom with english or german now.

Did you try all the links at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480525?
I've just picked up randomly on page 1 the attached txt file 20090309.txt (144 Bytes, 2981 views) leading to http://rapidshare.com/files/227915132/i00-ROM-Deploy-20090309.zip and the i00 ROM is there, I'm downloading it as I'm writting this post. The download link is really working.

I did read that thread before,
but I guess I maybe made some mistake when copying the link from the text file.
anyway.
I'll see if I can cancel or something the donation to romeOS/monx,
and I'll definetly donate something to i00, I guess.

Now I am just wondering if I still need to do HardSPL for i00, or if I can just flash over the chinese rom, or if I could maybe even break things by doing stuff like HardSPL to an already liberated Shift.
Is there anything to be done and prepared before changing rom, or just flash over the old one?

Thanks for showing me your thread! Hey, I'm sorry for asking so many questions. I just downloaded the i00 ROM. Will this make the HTC Shift *WM part* an actual phone? Also, would you be able to give me a tutorial from straight out of the box how to install this? Or just a link to a previous thread with a tutorial that still works.
Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. I'm looking for the HTC Shift Windows 7 tutorial.
I'll let you know if I find it.

Thanks for the link ee0! Unfortunately, the links there have gone bad. If you could upload the drivers, that would be great! *Just curious, would you happen to have Windows XP Drivers?* You and Morganlowe are extremely helpful. Thanks so much!
Also, I found a video on Youtube of someone having the touch screen working pretty well on the HTC Shift. Is this normal? Here's the link. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPgrvmJVHvA

In theory those all should work, however if they are 8mm instead of 5mm thick, you have to take out the rubbed bumpers. That doesn't matter much to an ssd atleast.
Personally, I cant justify spending that much on an old device like this
My Toughbook CF-U1 has a 16gb SSD in it from the factory and I used a internal PCI-e to SD adapter with another 16gb SD card on it for Windows User data and I havent filled it with windows 7 yet. You can make 7 quite small if you work at it even after install.

Do try that with your shift!

Wow! What happened?! Also, thanks for that information!
So, is it possible to use a Micro SD Card to SD Card Adapter to SSD Adapter for the Shift?
I have a 32GB Micro SD, I was wondering if it would be a little faster than the stock 40GB HDD.
Also, could you tell me what kind of adapter I would need for the SD Card to SSD? That would be great if you could let me know. (Do you know of an adapter for a Compact Flash Card)?
Thanks! I can understand if you don't want to go looking around. Haha, I ask too many questions.

It was wash day, I put them in the shower to clean out the mud.
Anyways, There is a way. A class 10 SD card full size is about 20-25mb/s speed. Not much if any faster than the stock HD. The SSD would be faster, up to 100mb/s limited by the connection to the computer in this case. With only 800mhz speed, single core, max 2gb ram and windows 7 you will pick up some speed, but I dont think its worth another $200. If anything get a bigger HD and load it down with music, these make a great car-puter.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MR04-SD-SDH...C_Drives_Storage_Internal&hash=item2a1c4b3156
That is in my U1 and the larger CF-19 MK3 too. In the U1 it has a 32gb class 10 card on it with all user data. You can easily move your files by right clicking on them and changing the location in properties. Downloads, document, pictures and music live on the SD card now.
Option 1
Option 2
Are options for SSD too. Lets you use a cheaper CF card. CF cards can hit over 100mb/s and a 32gb one thats decently fast is around $100. One other door these open is to use one of these too.
That lets you use the SD to boot, I think. I had one in my Canon camera, Rebel ti. Worked good, decently fast with class 10 cards. I have seen some CF to SDXC too, XC hit6s up to 64mb in a SD card!
I cannot guarantee boot from the adapter, I can boot from CF though, I have a few thin clients running on CF cards just fine. Their cards are only 4gb too.
Just found this! extra 20gb, right size, cheap. I think I might get one, would give me enough room to dual boot Ubuntu 12.04 and windows 7.

Thank you so much for your reply!!! I just found my Sandisk 32GB Compact Flash Card 60MB/s.
Do you think that would be better than the stock hdd or the 60gb Toshiba hdd you posted at the end of your post?
I actually have 1 of the Toshiba HDD's laying around here somewhere. *I just have to find it*. Also, would you prefer the metal plated adapter or the regular adapter?
Will the metal plate provide more protection? Give me your opinion please! I see that you know your way around with the HTC Shift. =D

Hmm depends entirely on how you use it. Get a HD benchmark program and see what your shift can do right now. If you want speed at the cost of some space, do it! if you need more space, get a bigger hdd.
My machines running on CF cards are pretty quick. I get in ubuntu about 55mb/s read and 48mb/s write.

Thanks a lot for your response again!
I don't plan on installing too much on the Shift. I just want to be able to use Windows 7 and the phone part on the HTC Shift.
I was also wondering how it would be possible to do that...
How would you use Windows 7 and Windows Mobile on another SDD without the Stock HDD?
Is there a download for windows mobile? Do you have to buy a CD? Would you have to partition your SDD?

Need help on if i should go from Official 1.5 (Cupcake) to other builds...

i am really new to this g1 root stuff, i have cupcake 1.5, and i see that alot of the custom builds have some pretty cool stuff. but am wondering if they are better than cupcake, how do i go about changing, and also i have no idea how to "root" my phone, so if anyone has time to explain in detail how to do this, i would really appreciate it. i need to know step by step how to go from cupcake to jf1.51ADP(best ive seen) without making it look hard...lol
Step 1. Search.
Step 2. Read through the 2534 threads that cover this exact question.
Example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480

I only moved across from 1.5 to jv1.5 adp last week and thought it would be hard to do, but actually found it very easy once i read the instructions, downloaded everything first, and then went through it step by step...

since then already read on how to change bootimages, got the files working under vista64 and updated the images, then found out doing themes is same as updating firmware and as long as remember to use theme for build it shouldn't be too hard to do..
Only thing I've noticed is down to about 46mb compared to normal 1.5, but would guess this is because of all the other features so not too bothered about it

yes u can, but what do u think?
i had to grab a 4gig for my music, mp4's, wallpaper, and APP2SD. i need to get an 8gig so i can add more mp4's.
i was lucky i got an 8gb plus standard 2gb when i got my phone via t-mobile uk. Only thing is the 8gb is a class 2 card, so just ordered a class 6 with adapter for £20, could have paid about £12 more for a 16gb with adapter (may still get it) as daughter as DS so should work in that

massive ammount of problems on JFS 1.51

getting read to just swich to one of the hero roms at this point but figured before i do i'll see if any of these can be fixed.
This all started right shortly after the 1.51 update
First of all, I've wipped the phone and reinstalled twice now and left the battery out and did formats and tried new SD cards and all that and these are the problems i'm having.
-Camera will not save once finished. It takes the picture but it never saves to the SD card.
-Screen randomly changes orientation by itself when the phone is not moving at all. on a table
-Lots of random crashes
-and the worst. Certain apps will only download 50% of the file size when i download them making them never work, If this happens it's impossible to ever download it. Even after wiping and reloading the phone the same thing happened again. It also happens in updates as well. Killed mybackup pro and i had to go download it off rapidshare because i needed to make backups and the market download would never download properly.
So basically, is there any way to fix all these problems or am i better off just going through everything and flashing to a new rom now.
very strange, never had problems on JF1.5 or 1.51. Have you tried flashing JF1.5? If that's still causing problems I'd try Cyanogens build. Sorry I can't help much, but you've already tried everything I would have suggested
yeah i've posted on a few forums and did everything there. then figured i might as well post here as a last resort.
I did try going back to 1.5 and things worked fine, then went to 1.51 again and everything happened again. I'd like to be running the latest release of any custom rom, and hero looks awesome so i'm thinking that if i can't fix this i'll just go through everything to upgrade to hero
There are no major changes from my JFv1.50 release, except a few new kernel modules.

The Hero build certainly looks nice, but it might take you a while to get used to the slight slowness compared to the non-Rosie builds. Still... very pretty, keeps me mesmerized while I wait for my stuff to load... j/k
I've been using aHome for 5 months, i'm used to lag. lol.
nothing prepares you for Hero lag!!! just kidding, with linux-swap or compcache, its pretty snappy, but not comparable to non-hero builds.
well i'll find out soon enough. If it ends up being really bad then i may just go to some other ROM but i'm really hoping to have hero run good. Unfortountly i just have a normal Micro SD 2GB which has no class distinction so hopefully it'll be alright. If not i may have to go get another 8GB.
When i tried to format the last 8GB to get apps2sd working one program destroyed the card. shows up as 8MB now instead of GB. lol.
use cyns rom. most fastes freshes bestes cupcake ever. even tastes better. and his recovery also.

I too noticed alot of lagging in jf1.51 after moving all apps to sd so I took off Ahome and openhome and it runs alot better. I also need to get a class 6 sd card which will help speed things up. currious...does anyone know if there are limitations on the size of the sd card for G1? I looked on HTC's site and T-mobile's as well it just says micro sd 2.0.
didn't know that. guess i'm gonna have to grab that and try to fix my 8GB

Possible to dual boot Phoenix 2 and valkyrie firestorm 6

Like the title says, is it possible to dual boot Phoenix 2 and valkyrie firestorm 6. For example, a computer can dual boot two OS's, in which during boot-up, you can pick the OS (this case ROM) in the bios (or in this case the RUU, I don't know).
I haven't heard this in any threads/ROM threads, but I researched through google and found that you can format and partition a MicroSD Card into two FAT32 partitions (I'm not sure though), enabling two ROMs to coexist. I would not know how this would work though, because there is no 'bios' to choose eirther ROM at startup.
I'm kind of doubting dual boot options on the xperia x1, but I need some kind of clarification; it would be great to dual boot these two ROM's, but I can not find a official way how to.
I know this is a little early to ask, but if this thread gets popular, can some developer cook up something to enable this option?
No, this is not possible.
Just no? There must be a good reason why; could you go into some general explaining, like why it can't be done? No offense to any developers, but is it really that hard to make something that can enable this?
Yes, this is not possible.
I as well would like to know the reason
Oh come on, give us one good reason why it can't be done.

1)this is not a computer
2)you can't just place two different roms on a memory card and flash!
3)there just isn't enough space on the xperia!, its not a hard drive we can change!
and 4) we don't have a "dualbooting" SPL/bootloader
theres your (kind of obvious) reason(S)

5) no bootloader supports loading off a SD card
6) android barely runs off a SD anyway, what do u expect from windows mobile?
Good answer, that's what I wanted to hear. I hope in 10 years or so SD cards can develop with better access speed, better size, bla bla bla so this is possible.
Thanks

Dude.. from all the reasons Jonny4911 mentioned why it can't be done, you only picked up "too slow to work from SD"? (also how would you flash to the SD in the first place and be able to boot up from the SD...) any of the other 4-5 reasons is one reason enough, it can't be done!..

That would be awesome. A lot of times theres no specs on the speed of cards out there and your not really sure of what you are buying. It would be awesome.
excellent idea for an app. there are cards out there that do not list there class and cards that are listed as class 2 yet reach class 6 speeds.
cheers,
ryan
If you guys would give me a good algorithim to test read/write speeds I can work on it later tonight. It will probably take a few days a best.
But My idea is write a 2 meg file to the SD card, time it. Read the same file from the card, time it. Do a little math...present some numbers...
Now there are a lot of issues that could come into play with that method. Maybe repeat it 3 or 4 times just to see an average, but still its not the best that it could be.
What about just getting a microsd adapter or even mounting it to the computer. And then run a program that tests read/write speeds and use it on the card. like h2testw or something :/

1. On the phone is just cooler
2. On another thread about this topic there was debate about how accurate it would be to use an adapter or mounting as a drive. Adding cable seems to me like it could increase latency and you are no longer using the phones OS to test its internal stuff. ( i know its USB its faster than the card anyways, but see #1)

You can start from there then trial and error. I was thinking you can take a look at any of the web SpeedTests in the market and learn something from there.
If you are on linux you can mount the phone and run
Code:
hdparm -tT /dev/sdd
where sdd is the phones drive(could be different on your machine)
That will give you a read speed but would would be limited by your USB read speed.
Hdparm is not built into android so you can't run it from the phone. There is one command that is built in that can measure speeds... However it is VERY VERY VERY dangerous so I hesitate to post it here but... dd
For the love of God do not mess with dd unless you read up on it and fully understand it. You could very easily measure write speed as well as read with dd but you would need an empty card because you would have to just blindly write to the blocks on the card. Doing which will at the bare minimum if you know what you are doing overwrite stuff on the card. Worst case is you mess up your partition table and have to re-partition. So I will only point you in the direction of dd and not post any code on how to use it for fear of some idiot entering the code and wiping their phone(although they would have to know how to use adb shell so they wouldn't be complete idiots)
This would be a useful app. I have a class 6 PNY SD and want to know how fast it really is.
Wow, what an AMAZING idea for an app. I would be more than happy to help and test!!!
Sooo
I am working on this guys.
I have gotten the program writing a file out to the SDcard. It just a randomly filled Byte Array being parsed to a file on the SDcard a few times, then reading it back off (Haven't got the reading part yet). I am running into some FC issues and also getting the timer to work is being a PITA. Android doesn't like my threads for some reason.
If I have time this week maybe I can get it done - or at least working, but I have some stuff going on that may slow down progress.
EDIT:
Also if anyone that is not quite so Artisticly Challenged as I am wants to get me some drawables. I can use an Icon and a 320x480 image back ground (Let's try to keep it simple , I have seen some of your boot screens. lol)
Bump for moral support!
couldn't you just pop it into an adapter, and use HD Tune on your pc? http://www.hdtune.com/
I think the concept of the app request is so people don't have to turn off theory beloved heroes and pull battery just to get to the SD card, babe.

Well, it reads and writes a 6 meg file while spinning a wait cursor LOL.
Been working on final projects the past few weeks.
Might have something out 2 week of june.
As it stands now:
1)Need to setup a time mechanism - probably most acurate to grab a time stamp before the start and after the finish. Threads tend to get time messed up.
2)After the file is written and the time is figured out. Need to display the read/write results.
3)Then need to cleanup the file and ram after everything is done.
Also, I have seen the file only become half of the size it should be (3 mb)....which I think has something to do with UTF (Chars taking up 2 bytes)....but I am not sure yet.
And on top of that...who the hell knows if its accurate LOL.
But it's been interesting and fun.
haha, well thats good. keeps you interested then. i honestly dont kknow anything about programming and what not, so i cant help you there. buuuutttt when you finish and need testers i can help. well try anyways

I am really interested to see if it's even remotly accurate.
Seems like creating a 6 meg file and writing it out from memory to the card would surely test well... But there are a crap ton of things that could come into play and effect it.
I guess we'll only know if we try.
unless my phone explodes, i see nothing wrong with trying it out.

Just got the X! Loving it!! However a query...

Got my Moto X today, the White one. After playing with it for an hour I am just amazed that how fluid it is out of the box! Unbelievable and I am coming from S4 i9500. However I am kinda sad that the rear of the device is actually very smooth and not "grip-able" regardless of the block texture, that texture is inside somehow, anyway. Unlocked the Bootloader. Now the only thing is slightly making me scared is the storage space, I mean I just formatted and it has 10.87 GB available out of the box, which is not high by any means.
So what I wanted to ask that, if I flash a custom ROM, say LiquidMotion or those which are available, will that storage space of 10.87 GB be increased or not? I want the Touchless features and of course the Active Display to work as flawlessly as stock ROM., and some other features might be good, like flipping the phone face down to mute a call, slide right to call someone etc, if they are available that is. If the storage does increase, then which ROM should I target for? I am not asking for the best ROM here, keep that in mid, all ROMs are great, I am just asking for an opinion as I am completely new to Motorola section.
Kindly input here, I will be really grateful.

Most of us prefer the stock rom. Moto did a great job not changing the UI or adding too much bloat. There really isn't much you can do to increase storage space. Once nice feature about the Moto X is that it supports USB OTG, so you can actually plug flash drives in and use them as storage with a USB OTG adapter.
I doubt custom roms will give you much if any extra storage space. If you want Active Display, etc to work, then it requires a Stock-based ROM. There really isn't much 'bloat' that the Devs can remove to increase space.
When you unlocked the BL and flashed TWRP, did you make a backup? If so, you could copy the backup to your PC and delete it from the phone to increase space a bit... Hopefully other users may have some suggestions for you.
Good Luck

Thanks for your response brother. Forgot about USB OTG adapter, don't have one, need to buy one. I can use my SanDisk 32 GB with it right? But the problem is, say if I am downloading a file in that memory card via USB OTG adapter, and I need to unplug the adapter for some reason, then can I replug the adapter and re-start the paused downloading file? Or will it be corrupted then?
No, I didn't make a backup, there is nothing to take backup of actually, as I just received the phone.
About the custom ROMs, I am not really interested in them either, always preferred Stock. If by flashing a custom ROM doesn't give me at least 1 GB more space then I won't flash it, no reason to flash for some small space increment.
PS : I think going for this would be better rather than buying an OTG adapter, don't you think? http://www.flipkart.com/sandisk-ultra-dual-16-gb-on-the-go-pendrive/p/itmdsxg4ysurgdg3

If you have to pause a download with USB OTG, it will likely be corrupted. Instead, put your completed downloads on the external card, and keep the internal memory freed up to use for current/pending downloads.
Many of the guides suggest making a backup after flashing TWRP. Basically this creates an image of the entire stock filesystem (should be around 1 GIG) and saves it to the internal memory. It isn't necessary to do this, because you can always SBF to stock even without a backup....but that is what I was referring to when I mentioned backup.
If storage is a huge issue for you, you may consider selling your 16GB model on Swappa, and buying the 32GB or the new 64GB version instead...
EDIT: Yes, I think the device you linked would be much more convenient than using a dongle/adapter and another flash drive/card.

Thanks once again. I don't really wanna swap it with a 32 GB version and also I am not in the States, so that website is literally of no use to me.
By the way, just as I expected, I am heavily disliking the soft buttons, and especially that dark black background in the apps, really poor. Any way I can set the transparency level of the soft keys? I just wanna make the background a lot more transparent, like on the home-screen. I am rooted of course. Any app?

There may be an Xposed module for that, but I don't have any experience with it. Find the Xposed thread for tips on installing, and give it a try. "GravityBox KK" module is a favorite around here.

Yes, thanks. You can set a colour there, but not make it transparent. At least I don't see any transparency option in the app.
Have settled with GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys, if anyone knows a better app do tell.
By the way, I am disliking the default dialer too. What other options are there, a dialer with a clean UI, Tabs view?
Gravity box (xposed module) has pie control (also many non stock custom roms have it) and it's my favorite way of navigation. The controls are hidden until you gesture from the edge. After a while you get really quick at it and it becomes second nature. The added screen real estate can't be beat as well!

I bought one of these: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HVT27CW/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_TZ6Ptb0WNQV28 a while back.
Great little drive and it's USB 3.0 compatible for fast transfers to and from your computer. It also comes in 16gb and 64gb flavors.

Great to see you from here. The Transcend looks more premium and definitely a lot smaller than the SanDisk but I guess two years extra warranty of SanDisk has an edge. But I will just end up with the one which will give me better transfer rates and overall speed, none of them mention any speed details!
I will not get that Corsair, I will never buy another Corsair, but thanks for mentioning it anyway.
If you're looking to save space, consistently backup your pics/vids on picasa. You'll still be able to access them.
Also, once rooted, you can debloat those useless moto apps.

I got 30 hours total and 6 plus hours screen on time on my X....and get nearly the same on the N5.
Battery life is about setup and usage. If you set up right, make sacrifices of convenience features....you can get great times with either phone.
And watch what X you buy. RW, At&T and Verizon consumer models can't be bootloader unlocked...and no proper root because of it.

Where I live the upload speeds are awesome, so if only uploading stuffs were an option. Videos and photos aren't any problem anyway as I have a tendency to move them to my PC on a weekly basis.
And I have uninstalled that Moto Spotlight or whatever app that was which used to pop up a red hat and ask me to play some stupid game, that bugger alone was 200 mb! Don't know what other apps are there which will have no use for me, maybe the Moto Assist app....let's see.

I am getting just above 4 hours of screen on, WiFi on almost always, along with GPS and Active Display and Touchless control, mostly on Auto brightness. I am impressed with the battery life, slightly better than the S4 i9500 I had previously, definitely lower res screen taking the advantage here.
It was a no brainer for me between Nexus 5 and Moto X to be honest. With Nexus 5 you get better hardware, bigger and high res display, but it is pathetically built, the display is rubbish (no offence to IPS fans) and the call quality is nowhere near of X. If I were to get a big phone like N5 and make it even bigger with a protective case then I would have got the S4 GPE at almost same price if not less! But yeah, if you play intensive games and like big screen (size over quality) then get the N5.
By the way, I was playing a little bit of Flappy Bird today, and I notice there's some stuttering (very minimal but it's there), while on my Exynos S4 it was smooth as butter! Wondering what the reason could be
Another note....and the reason I gave my X to my wife and got the N5....development for the N5 is insane!!! 100's of ROMs. The X is best left stock with Xposed. But I got bored. Lol
---------- Post added at 07:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:18 PM ----------
If flashing means nothing to you....then yeah, X is the way to go. ?
That's right. Nexus 5 is the ultimatum of custom stuffs, there is literally nothing which is not available for it.
