hey guys! its been awhile since i been here my Brother wants his Galaxy S rooted and flashed to a different firmware!
i searched around but cant really find any info on the i9000m model. Hes running 2.2 i9000UGKC1 ( i believe that is the newest update)?
so what are my first steps to gain root? then flash? maybe a point to a root tutorial then a post to a flash tutorial for the i9000M would be handy, i just cant seem to find them haha, been so long since i was here. So can anyone give me the down low on how the mods are going and things needed to get root and flash?
thanks guys
Bump! any one here? im reading that root is possible for the i9000m but flashing might not be? im confused.... is it still odin used to flash and unlock the bootloader to flash new roms?
i've got an i9000m and rooted with SuperOneClick, then once rooted flashed speedmod kernel with Odin. No problemo.
Just make sure before you do anything that you can access Download mode and Recovery Mode via the '3-button' method ie. turn off then hold power/home/vol down (or up) respectively.
been busy since so haven't yet tried a custom rom, but yes, you can root and flash an i9000m!

so im reading that i can root with superoneclick
then afterwards i can flash CWM Recovery with Rom Manager? and start flashing roms right? without ODIN?
thats how i used to do it on a htc phone, does it work same with i9000m?

Bump anyone inform me as if this is correct? with the i9000UGKC1 firmware?
Bump, want my information verified, dont want to screw up my brothers phone haha
hey sorry i haven't checked in in awhile either - don't know if it still helps but i rooted with KC1 2.2. then flashed speedmod kernel (only realised afterwards could have just flashed the kernel and used it to root - rooted initially with superoneclick).
been super busy but now have a bit more time to look at more developments - just basic stuff like going to GB, maybe a new kernel and start looking at other ROMs again.
Does anyone have a suggestion how to root a Note with version N7000XXLA6?
For your information:
- SuperOneClick don't work.
- DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0](zergRush Exploit) don't work.
Any suggestions?!?

As I read in this post, you have to flash an older stock rom, root it, then flash the new stock rom using mobile-odin with keep root option on.
Text from the post:
"As New ROMs are not direct rootable, you cant root it direct method like Zergrush exploit or CF-Root, If you want such new ROMs Rooted, You shud have currant Older ROM installed, If you are not rooted and flashed Newer ROM, first downgrade to older ROM as above said.then you may update n Root it with one of following two methods."
XXLA6
i want also root my note
Baseband Version : N7000XXLA4
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
KERNEL: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA6-CL907341 [email protected]#2
anyone how and what to use
As jellevanb wisely stated... This thread holds the answers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
I was on La6, flashed KKA with PC Odin, then used CF-Root for KKA (props to Chainfire for his amazing work) then flashed LA6 on-device using CWM Manager that was installed with CF-Root. Now I have La6 with root
I also was on LA6, flashed AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo.tar with PC Odin then used CF-Root-SGN_XX_SER_LA6-v5.0-CWM5. It worked for me.
The easiest way to gain root would be this:

CWM on galaxy note
hey guys i have rooted my galaxy note but i want install MIUI Rom
i think need first clockworkmod ,
have wacthed so many videos but still i dont know how to do it
Hey Guys!
I've a question! I know chasmodo and may others said me the way but I've just to be sure
I'am on Alba Rom v2.0. So far so good, but I've just partially root. This means every flash on Mobile Odin or CWM can be deadly for my Note
So now chasmodo said to me that I have to flash a pre-rooted GB (LC1) with PC Odin, but I'm a little bit afraid from the flash the first time Anyway does somebody know a really really safety way to get from The partially rooted rom to pre-rooted GB without bricking the device?
History on stock ICS:
I've wiped already the first time I've flashed LPY but with Stock Recovery. Flash AbyssNote Kernel and Flash Darky.. pardon Uni-ROM went also very fine. Then I saw the AlBa Rom. Wow, I thought and flashed it. Now partially root
Pls give me the safest way you know
Pozdrav

do what chas said ,flash a GB ROM through PC ODIN ,it's the safest method ,just don't flash pit or bootloaders ,and follow DR.Ketan's guide on how to flash with pc odin.
note that a pre rooted ROM will give you a triangle though.
if you want you can flash a full stock ROM and root it later following DR.Ketan's guide ,this way you'll get no triangle.

Pre-rooted Rom will most definitely NOT give you the triangle.
Hello dear XDA peeps
I need some help here or maybe I dont, thats why Im asking!
I rooted and followed all the guides a couple of months back, must be over half a year, and installed ICS Stunner 1.4.19. At that time that was simply the most interesting for my Note. These days when more stable ICS roms seem much more appealing. Altho Im thinking Im waiting for a stable working beta for JB
Since I havent done some ROM loving for quite a while Im quite confused where to begin, do I need to upgrade CWM Manager first? I have version 3.15. Or can I go straight on new ROMs? I spent some time reading about updating CWM today and it seems I have a really dangerous kernel version, 3.0.15-I9220ZLP5-CL295568 and if I understand the CWM Manager thread correctly thats part of the dangerous kernels. Which seems quite dangerous to update it since I cant find a safe version of CWM Manager to update to.
So the bottom question, do I need to update CWM Manager first to do anything safe or update the kernel first to perhaps an old safe rooted GB kernel? All the guides and stuff says the safest way is to first install an old safe GB kernel and then install a ICS or JB kernel (not at the moment tho) but is this the truth in my case?
Anyway, I really appreciate if you could give me some advice here
Thanx in advance

There is newer cf root that is 5.6. This is a safe rooted stock kernel by chainfire with CWM manager.
The devs suggest when installing TW ics custom rom it is recommended to install it while already in ics rom.
First install stock gingerbread rom, while in gingerbread rom do the wiping data, cache, and dalvik and then flash ics rom for clean installation. DO NOT WIPE IN STOCK ICS ROM, DANGEROUS. READ THE WARNING IN THE FORUM.
You can choose any tw custom rom you like.
If you want suggestion on what custom rom just ask i gave you one.
Ok, still not sure what do to first but it is safe to install a GB rom first? Updating CWM isn't that important? What I meant was that I still cant find a fitting version to install. Nearest version is: CF-Root-SGN_DD_ODD_LP8-v5.5-CWM5.zip but thats on the danger list so Im still confused about what version to download.. :/
Perhaps CF-Root-SGN_DD_ODD_LP8-v5.6-CWM5.zip is safe to install tho?
EDIT: I saw that I had cf-root version 5.2, it was CWM Manager that was version 3.15
EDIT: getting a new baseband comes with a rom, no need to install baseband seperatly? For example, getting Cassie's XtraLiteRom Version X LC1 295Mb is getting my baseband LC1 too?

You can flash the cassies custom rom directly over the stunner rom if you want to, just be sure to use ABYSS KERNEL for wiping.
Base band also known as modem. There are many flashable modem to choose so no problem what modem you Want.
If you want to install cassies latest custom rom you will get also the latest CWM recovery and manager.
Uhm ok.. so much information Im confused as usual
I cant find exactly abyss kernel. Can it be this one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424/
And can I flash all roms via CWM or do I have to use PC ODIN?
EDIT: found the abyss note kernel, really slow downloading tho.

Go to cassies thread there is ABYSS there to download and operating procedure on how to install safely.
maybe this will help?
hey,
watch the vids from Cursed4eva on youtube - this one in particular
he is very clear and shows you what to do.
Thanx peeps!! Now Im off to messing with Parandroid Thanx again!
I recently loaded Philz Kernel and also rooted my Galaxy Note.
I would like to return to it being not rooted so that Sky Go will work. I have tried a number of changes to regain the not rooted status but without success.
I would like to keep Philz Kernel for the ease of use of it.
I am now being prompted to install JB (which I have tried before but without great success - problem with the bluetooth in my car not detecting contacts) - if I let the stock OTA JB install will I then return to being not rooted?
After using stock OTA JB will Philz kernel still be present or will it have also been replaced,
Ideally I would like to have stock JB and Philz kernel but I dont know if these are mutually exclusive.
I apologise if these are very basic questions to which I should know the answer.
First: check in what forum you posted your question.
Second: There is no 50:50 solution: rooted or not rooted, that is the question.
Third: so you have to decide: SkyGo and you stay on official unrooted JB - or - root and don't use SkyGo.
if you use OTA for JB it will unroot and you will loose Philz kernel.. there is JB kernel by Phil too.. Use the unroot option in SuperSu App to unroot and see if SkyGo works.. this way you will not have root but still Philz kernel will be there.
Moved to Q&A
Beware sky go will need removal of root and apps that require root. You may even have to flash the stock rom and kernal again for it to work.
I have had loads of issues with it
Sky confirmed to me that the app checks for modified kernal, root, and apps that need root on boot. Doesnt say that in the permissions does it!
