[Q] Issues with HTC syncing 365 mail account - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have recently been having dramas with some of the HTC Mozart phones in our company phone fleet receiving mail from our 365 mail accounts. Strangest thing is that some work flawlessly and some don’t work at all – error as follows:
Outlook Error – Not Updated.
We’re having a problem with the server or your connection. Try again later.
Error code: 85010016
There is no consistency in this error and other Win7 phones with the same email domain work fine. All have Telstra as the carrier.
Have tried reverting to different mail servers, recreating mail accounts & even a factory reset of the phone. Also works fine on my iPhone & iPad. Google tells me nothing…
Any ideas would be appreciated

Access MS Exchange webmail

My employer hosts a webmail enabled Microsoft Exchange mail server. I am able/allowed to conntect to this server using https://webmail.myemployer.com from all web browsers and from all locations I have ever tried (I travel a lot), except ofcourse from my X1. Neither Pocket Internet Explorer nor Opera works; same result (Error Code 500: Internal Server Error).
I have retrieved the certificate from the mailserver, copied it to the X1, installed it and restarted the phone. Same result (doesn't work, same error code).
Is the access to webmail enabled Microsoft Exchange servers restricted on the X1? Can Exchange block access from cellphones? Is anyone reading this able to access Exchange webmail via SSL?
My ultimate goal is ofcourse to get the mail/calendar/tasks/contacts setup via ActiveSync but realize that I probably need to get this part with the webmail to work first. Colleagues of mine have successfully set it up on their iPhones, but ever since my first encounter with McIntosh back in 1984 ("an error of type -1 has occurred - Abort - Retry") I just can't stand that crap. I have no idea, but I doubt iPhones use ActiveSync.
if you know your Exchange webmail address, a WM phone can automatically configure Exchange. Open ActiveSync and on the right softkey menu, click "Configure Server" and type in your webmail address, username, pw etc and it'll automatically set up your server for push sync. If it works on an iPhone it is definitely enabled.
Close, but no cigar. The ActiveSync setup doesn't work and returns 0x85010004 "Your account in Microsoft Exchange Server does not have permission to synchronize with your current settings. Contact your Exchange Server administrator." I have verified the right settings at least five times. It doesn't work.
Activesync needs to be configured separately on the exchange server to work wirelessly.
Have you tried to put /owa/ at the end of the URL in your browser?
Yes. No luck. When I enter the URL above in the address field of a browser and press enter it eventually (in the successful case) changes into something like https://webmail.myemployer.com/exchweb/... but this is not the case when trying to access same URL from the X1 (then it simply stops with the 500 error code).
Is anyone reading this able to access MS Exchange webmail over SSL with the X1?
This is strange. Have you tried your account on an iPhone? There might be a problem that is isolated to your account only.
Edit: If you are using Exchange 2003 this might be a server problem. Refer to:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817379
Yes, I Have
I access my company email account via MS exchange webmail on my X1. We dont use a 3rd party website, just type in the IP address of our server followed by "/exchange", dialogue box pops up for username and password and im in. Nothing had to be set up on the phone but, IE does not work ...has to be Opera and Im currently using the version that came with the phone.
I also had the same issue of Outlook Mobile Access disabled at Exchange, but Outlook Web Access enabled. Try Seven"Out Of Office" OWA connector or eMoze, both of them worked for me. Seven enabled GAL/Directory lookup as well...
Thanks. I tried adding /exchange without luck but was able to atleast get to the login page with the following URL (which I copied from my laptop after successful login): https://webmail.myemployer.com/CookieAuth.dll?GetLogon?curl=Z2F&reason=0&formdir=2. I can enter my user name and password and even click on "Login" before I get the 500 Internal Server Error message.
Strange...
I've also looked at Seven and emoze. Didn't even know they existed. Thanks for the tip! Seven seems operator dependant and as my operator charges €10 per month for it, it kinda fell out of the picture. Emoze can successfully fetch my e-mail through the OWA (webmail.myemployer.com + usr + pwd) and it works like a charm.
Almost...
Emoze has some pretty severe issues with its calendar synchronization in that it handles repeat calendar entries incorrectly. Emoze will keep adding duplicates of these in an eternal loop (about one duplicate per minute). I had to use a tool called Allcleanup to wipe all calendar entries. So a warning there. Also, emoze will add some corny "this mail sent by emoze" on all outgoing e-mails and this seems to be unavoidable, even in the pro version. Plus emoze handles character sets incorrectly (Scandinavian/German characters like ÅåÄäÖö are not translated correct). But if you "just" want to be up to date with your inbox, emoze works fine I guess. I now use GoogleSync and ActiveSync with Gmail and Calendar, emoze for work mail and contacts.

[Q] Lumia 928 and Mail Error 80004005

Hello guys,
I have a Lumia 928 which is experimenting issues after some days ago specifically with Yahoo email.
Error is 80004005, it does not sync and download the emails.
I have tried deleting the account , setting it again as yahoo, as "Other email", writing manually IMAP servers and ports, but the problem still continue, I even restarted the phone, but everything continue in the same way.
I have read some info related to this error, but apparently it come for several reasons, so weird. In reality and there is no one solution for this error in the phone, i have seen some solutions for this in the PC.
My Lumia already is running GDR3, and the email was working so good, except that 3 days ago or so, started with this issue. I have installed the GDR3 forcing the phone to do that, I had previously the Lumia Amber... then throught the "Phone for Developers" app, I updated to GDR3
Any ideas to solve this issue?
I give more sure there is problem with yahoo, or what ever you calling it. Wrong email settings you setup. I recomend you forward all incoming emails to live/hotmail/outlook.
Is the Yahoo account linked/synced through your Microsoft account? If not try adding the account to Outlook or Live or whatever the hell they are calling it now. I currently have email through my service provider that syncs flawlessly to my phone but it is also synced through my live account when I access Outlook through a web browser or the Windows 8 app on pc. It is configured as a separate pop 3 account on my 928 and am able to send and receive from that account no problem. Not sure if it makes a difference or not but can't hurt.
Yeah that's definitely odd. Does this happen when on WiFi or Cell Data?

Xperia Z1 Lollipop Activesync problem

Hi everyone,
I have updated my Xperia Z1 to Lollipop yesterday and sofar I am happy with the update overall.
Except for one thing.
Since the update I can't get my Exchange mail to work.
At first I can setup the mailaccount and everything goes fine (as long as I sync Contacts first, the Calendar and then Email, otherwise it won't download contacts and calendar items). But after setting it up, it syncronizes once and after that no more mail is being downloaded.
A manual refresh of the inbox throws the error "Cannot connect to server".
Sending emails is working fine, they are immediately delivered, but receiving them isn't.
If I look at the logs on the firewall and Exchange server I don't even see any connections when I manually refresh.
What I have tried sofar:
- Delete and reconfigure Exchange on the device.
- Set the options to "Allow all certificates"
- Tried the Outlook for Android app, this works fine, but doesn't fill my contacts, so it's not usable for me.
- Disabled TLS 1.2 on the exchange server (Read on several pages that TLS 1.2 handshakes on 5.0.x don't work nicely and this might be the cause)
- Deleted the sync-relationship through OWA
I am seriously baffled by the fact that it syncs once after setup and then stops receiving mail, but stil sends mail.
Anybody who had the same problem or might have some tricks I could try?

[Q] Exchange Email Device ID Change

Hello,
I am hoping someone can help me out. I have my work email setup on my phone using their webmail address. If I use the standard address, i am required to have Maas360 installed, which is not an option with me being rooted. Anyways, if I have the email program I use, which is either Nine or Mail Wise, setup for ActiveSync, my business server will catch it and block me. So, I have to setup the email app to scan for new emails every X minutes.
The problem I am running into, is I did not know that I had to have ActiveSync turned off, so now my device is banned when using Nine mail. So, I tried the same with Mail Wise, and got banned again. Now, on my third app, AquaMail, I have realized the problem, and its working great. However, I would prefer to use Nine mail. When trying to go back into Nine and recreate my account, i get an error that my device is blocked. I get the same error on Mail Wise. Both list a different Device ID. NineXXXXXXX and MailWiseXXXXXXXX. Is there a way to change this ID? I tried creating a new ID in Titanium Backup and that didn't change the IDs in the mail apps.
Thanks to anyone who can help!

N6 Nougat v7.0 - Issue with MS Skype for Business app when using MS Outlook app

Is anyone else running an N6 with stock N v7.0 and using a Corporate Office 365 subscription?
If so then do you use the MS Skype for Business app and the MS Outlook app in conjunction with MFA (MS Multi factor authentication)?
I have an issue which impacts S4B on my phone, it basically hangs at "Signing in" as soon as I add an Outlook account to the Outlook application.
Skype 4bus works fine on its own, but as soon as I create an account in Outlook app (MFA) then Skype 4bus simply hangs at "Signing in....."
I spent far too long time analyzing this so that it is completely reproducible.
Details
My phone is a Nexus 6 running the latest stock Android Nougat v7.0, this issue does not occur on HTC Desire 530 Android M v6.0 and was never an issue on the Nexus 6 when it ran Android v6.0
The problem happens on clean (full factory reset) N6 v7.0 device, having full factory reset the device, I installed just the MS applications Skype 4Bus, Authenticator and Outlook
Logged into S4B all good - and was able to make use of full functionality
Signed out of S4B, and I am able to login again with no issues.
Loaded Outlook app on phone and added my 365 account.
Signed out of S4B
Can't sign in, S4B front screen now shows multiple corporate accounts all of which hang at the "Signing in" point....
creating new account with password or app password also hang.
Questions
Does anyone use a similar setup or have any experience with any of the above?
If anyone else does have access to a corporate office 365 login ideally which also utilises MFA, then I'd really appreciate if you could try installing and configuring both the S4B and Outlook apps to see if you also encounter the same issues...
I've logged the necessary support service requests with Microsoft and have provided them with the requested detailed fiddler traces of both success and failure attempts, so I'm hoping they'll be able to help, but would be really useful to know if this issue is unique to my corporate federated 365 setup or is in fact a general nougat issue which MS need to address.
Resolution was to update to the just released S4B release from MS version 6.9.0.1 which fixes this issue.
MS admitted to previously introducing an issue with the authentication token on android devices.
All functionality resumed.
