Starting from about last night, but I haven't done anything with the phones software or hardware. Running it rooted on one of the earlier firmwares.
So now my note is randomly saying it's connected when it isn't connected, and when I do have it connected it sometimes doesn't recognize it and doesn't charge. Battery indicator is moving up when it thinks it's connected but not, and going down when it's connected but thinks it isn't.
Is this a hardware problem? I hope I won't have to mess about with my warranty, I imported my note from the UK, and I am living in Japan so it would mean weeks without it.

You probably have dirt in your usb port. Try cleaning it with a soft brush or something
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I've been scrubbing away at it with a toothbrush which seems to help, but then whenever I connect the charger it goes back to randomly acting like the charger is connecting and disconnecting.
Try cleaning your charger as well.
Edit: If you have a mobile service point near you, you could try going there with it æ. Worst case you'd have to pay for them to fix it. But it would be faster
May be the problem in the usb cable it self, have u encountered any problem while charging using pc usb?
↖(^▽^)↗ Sent from Rego Galaxy Note ↖(^▽^)↗
The problem isn't with the charger, the phone is doing strange things when not connected to the charger.
For example, I'll turn the phone off. While the phone is off it constantly cycles between the "empty battery with a loading circle in the middle" that you get when the phone is checking the battery state after getting plugged in, and the battery's current level as though it were charging. This is when it's not plugged in.
uh oh... looks like I'm also having trouble turning the thing on!
I think there is some short circuit somewhere in the usb port hopefully not by a hardware defect, is ur device like this since u got it?, may be u sould sent it to Samsung center ,this is very strange indeed
↖(^▽^)↗ Sent from Rego Galaxy Note ↖(^▽^)↗
Last thing to try while ur device is off put some perfume on the usb port ,then use any soft brush a little air blow from hair dryer with no heat could help too, then switch on and try..
↖(^▽^)↗ Sent from Rego Galaxy Note ↖(^▽^)↗
Like I said before, I'm getting these problems when the phone is unplugged, and they just started last night. I really hope I don't have to send this in, there aren't any Samsung repair centers in Japan so it'll probably end up being WEEKS before I get it back and I'll have to pay for shipping and everything.
Get a good closeup look
Get a high power loop and look at the USB connector on the phone close
up. It might have some crud shorting out the connection. Mine did, which
is why I wrote up this>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25102882&postcount=18
Might be worth a shot before sending it in.
That does sound exactly like the symptoms I'm experiencing. Only problem is, the Note's usb connector is really tiny. Any suggestions on how to clean it up? I was thinking dripping some alcohol on a toothbrush and trying to scrub it with that, but I really can't think of anything that would fit in the space other than toothbrush bristles and they're not all that stiff nor are they good at scrubbing... Also concerned what would happen if the alcohol were to bridge all the pins--any risk of damaging shorts?
Try a soft makeup brush or artists brush and some isopropyl alcohol/lens cleaner. You won't be likely to short anything if you clean with battery out, and give the alcohol time to evaporate.
Sent from my GT-N7000
Well I gave my usb port the scrubbing of a lifetime and still no help. It's constantly acting like its in charging mode. the battery reading is all wrong, and if I turn the thing off I spend like 2 hours trying to turn it back on because it keeps switching on and off to charging mode! Please, does anybody know what the hell is going on? If I have to take it in, I need to know where to go with my international unlocked note. This is absolute bull**** if the note is already having a hardware failure a mere two months after purchase!!!!
Man it's very sad to hear that, but i advice u to stop rubbing ur usb port, and start to search for a reliable mobile service center in ur area, there must be one somewhere i am sure, just do a search. Wish u good luck
↖(^▽^)↗ Sent from Rego Galaxy Note ↖(^▽^)↗
That's part of the problem... Here in Japan 99.999% of all cellphones are carrier-branded cellphones. You're not really supposed to have international unlocked cellphones, none of the major networks officially support them. I'm going to have one hell of a time finding a place that will agree to service my phone, let alone a reliable one.

My note has got thé same pb and just an advice to turn it on :
Plugin it and push the on button only when it shows the green battery
Otherwise Im looking for a final solution too
How long has yours been like this? I'm more concerned that this is a sign that my USB port is breaking and that if I ignore it I'll lose the ability to charge altogether.
Try taking out the battery and the sim card and leave it for 5-10 min. Then put it back in

Hi
Since yesterday, my note had this issue, but I saw dust attached, I had to look carefully cause I didn't see it before
What I have done:
Turn off my note and take my battery out,
Used a paper clip to take the dust out
I made it carefully too not to destroy the USB connector
And since the reboot, I don't have the problem anymore, I plug and unplug the power cord without any issue

Info: Charging paused. Voltage too high
Couple of days back updated My GS Note to official ICS 4.03. Today morning, suddenly after removing charger, facing a problem. every few seconds it beep with message " Info: Charging paused. Voltage too high".
When I reconnect charger or USB, there is no issue at all. But after removing cable, the problem continues.
Not sure any other GS note user are facing same problem or not?
Shut down your phone and let it cool down may help

Shut down your phone remove the battery for some time (around half an hour). Also check there is no dirt in battery compartment or inside the charging port.
Flash any stock firmware if you are on any custom rom and take it to the nearest service center
There might be temporary fixes but permanent fixture would be to replace the usb docking port which need to be replaced...
hi bro,
happen to me n my friend as well. what i did is, clean the usb port. using a piece of paper, wipe clean the in between the connector.. also if the hair dryer is available, blow dry the port..
This happened to me earlier and it keeps bugging the hell out of me, then I remembered that earlier this morning I used my Pantech charging cradle before plugging it directly to the mini usb port and it started bugging me with the charging error....tried blowing on the port, using different chargers but when I tried using the pantech charging dock it stopped and charged normally.I guess this will have to do as of now
My friend had that happen to him because of dirty contacts on the phone/USB cable. Just blow it out good, or use a swab with alcohol to clean it.

I had this problem. There was a bit of pocket lint causing the issue. A swab with alcohol will do, but don't blow in there. Your breath has a lot of moisture in it. Those pins are sensitive and moisture can cause the "phantom car mode" issue.
Today I got this issue..
so I try to cleaning USB contact.
Hope this will help.
Thanks a lot..

Cleaning USB port worked
I removed the battery and used a little rubbing alcohol on a tiny brush (used to clean between teeth, a pickster). It rebooted and worked for a few minutes then the message came back.
Unfortunately I have seen this far too many times with Samsung phones. I once had a Skyrocket that had this issue, and then it wouldn't be recognized when plugged into the computer. Cleaned the port, used different cables, changed the rom etc. No dice.
My work phone (galaxy s2) started this yesterday. Then my Note was acting erratically while charged.
My best advise is to clean the port, and get another charger immediately. New cable/wall plug. My note is charging fine at home just not with the car charger (brand new Rocket fish). I'm lucky I caught it in time. Now my S2 is damaged.
I have also heard that the stock samsung chargers has a chip that detects when the phone is charged. Therefore using 3rd party chargers could therectically damage the phone.
Although I truely hate Apple phones, I think the 30 pin connector is far superior to micro USB. Too many problems.

It was the same for almost 3 weeks for me.. I bought "Charger Port Micro USB Connector Mic Flex Cable for Samsung Galaxy Note N7000" from ebay. This morning i received it. I replaced the part. Now it is perfect. Replacement this part is very easy. I bought it for 9 dolars.
This error is a hardware fault. So you have to replace the part. May be cleaning it solves the problem but it would be a temporary solution.
So you replaced the charging port on the note. It's good to know that is an option.
The cleaning of the USB port and then a full charge cycle using the Samsung original wall charger has fixed it for me. I have not had the error since.

hey
I'm having the same issue it looks like it really is the usb connector.
Anyway I don't have any warranty left so I'd like to give this a shot. Has this new charging port lasted? I hope it lasts longer than the one I got in my Note
I tried different batteries, different cables and different chargers, but get no response whatsoever, even when using a USBjig. Can't get into recovery or download mode. ODIN doesn't find it.
I've been having problems with the microUSB port for a while (phantom USB), in which the phone thinks a charger / car dock is connected (whilst this is not the case). Not sure if they are related, though.
I was running RocketRom V1 (which ran great) when my note suddenly turned off and didn't respond to anything.
Two days later, whilst my supposedly dead note was connected to my PC, my note booted when I booted my pc (very, very odd). I immediately updated my rom to RocketRom v2. My note ran fine for a couple of hours. Then, again, it turned off and hasn't responded to anything since.
What options do I have left to fix my Note? Thanks!
Sounds like dodgy usb connector and therefor not charging properly, I'd get it looked at under warranty or there are a couple of threads here on how to replace the usb port yourself.

Thanks for the response, Spydertracks. I've send the phone to samsung for repairs, but my warranty was refused thanks to physical impact damage. I fail to see how this relates to my N7000's issues, especially since I haven't dropped my note and the problems started when it was lying on the table.
They didn't explain which part of the phone was damaged, by they did send me a picture of the insides of my phone. It shows a small square item (a sticker, perhaps), with 16 small x's on it. Is this a warranty sticker or something?
for now you can use an external battery charger and boot up your note,
also if its the USB connector in the phone, loads are available on selling websites that come with tool kit to do it yourself. videos on youtube as well.,

Thanks for the reply. I have ordered a USB module and will try to fix it myself. However, even with a fully charged battery my note won't boot. It does charge (and the battery heats up) in my Note, but it just won't boot or give any life signal (like a "charging" screen, vibration, whatsoever).

I would try cleaning the usb port with pure alcohol and a cotton bud. usually when it states a charging when not and switching between driving mode and not it points to dirty connectors. Battery is obviously not the issue as he's tried different ones. Only other thing would be to charge the battery on an external battery, that would show if the usb port has failed.

Thanks for the advice. Tried cleaning the port with alcohol and a cotton bud, didn't work. However, I did notice a high pitched sound coming from the charger when my N7000 was attached. This sound could not be heard when charging any other device (with that same charger), which might indicate a short-cirquit in the USB connector port in my Note. The phone (and the battery) do heat up slightly when the charger is connected, though.
I have ordered a UBS module, which will arrive in 2 weeks. I'll let you know if it worked.

Get a tight micro usb connector and connect and disconnect it to the note usb port. It should clean the port out. I had the same problem with my note.

I am using stock rom and saw a new firmware upgrade last night, did it, and look like it has resolved the problem (last night), however, happened again, this morning.
I want to know if this is a "battery" related problem or "hardware"?
hope someone can help

if the conditions cited by AndroidSlave occur then you just have to calibrate the battery with some complete charge cycle

Your charging cable is it original? Is it damaged? You can always check if usb port charges it better to eliminate charger itself. Note usb charges slower.

Yeah, by now I'm quite sure that the usb port is broken or damaged, or similar. After playing around with it for a while, I found out it does charge in certain positions, so I guess something broke off or is loosing contact.
It is under warranty, but I bought the phone under contract, and the phone carrier I got it from is notorious for holding onto the phone FOREVER during "repairs". Friend had to wait 45 days to get his back. So I'm just thinking about giving it to the local repair shop, those guys do a good job.
So far I tried different cables, and a different charger, did not try switching batteries since I can't get a hold of one anytime soon.
doing it yourself has a risk, and if those are good, fair in price, and have the right parts, then why not lol.
Be sure to check speaker, reception and wifi after, those are basically things that can go wrong with replacing this unit
btw, to excersize warrantee you can go to a authorized samsung dealer/service centre. Your not obligated to go throught your provider for warrantee. Its Samsung warrantee your calling upon, not your providers in this case I think.
I got my phone to a repair shop and they managed to fix up my phone, it charges normally now and the problem was in the connector, it got broken somehow.
Right now I'm getting extremely annoyed with constant network signal drops which happen on random..no idea why that is happening.

Hmmmm great for getting it fixed. Not sure if there is an antenna connector on the usb module which might not have been fixed properly. If this is happening since the repair, need to check again.
So, my phone is doing some weird things. It says that the USB is connected when it's unplugged, and says disconnected while the cord is connected. It won't charge anymore either. I tried cleaning out the port, different cords, restarted the phone, removed the battery and put it back in, formatted the phone, and nothing's worked yet. I bought the phone in March, so I might still be covered under warranty, but I'm currently in another country, so not sure if it still applies here. Any idea?
There are many cases of faulty usb ports on the Note, i suffered it too a few weeks ago and had to claim under warranty.
I think you should do the same, it's possible to do it yourself and there are guides and videos online, but if you don't feel confident in doing it then send off for repair.
Do you have any friends or family in the country you purchased the Note from? You could ask to use their address for the phone to be returned to.

sounds like a bad port :crying:
Mine is suffering to, but from self inflicted damage. Was plugged in, laying on a table with the end of the phone hanging off the table. Dropped something on the table at the end of the cord, and it bent the cord/usb port. If I plug it in, it charges, but barely touch the cord and it disconnects. I suspect the soldier connection is broken. Got a new port coming, but won't be here from China until mid January.
Watched the video on replacing it, other than a few screws and being careful, doesn't look too bad...been in the repair/electronics business for 30 years...with a magnifier glass, even these eyes should be able to do it :victory:
Another thing to try is to clean the usb port with pure alcohol and a cotton bud, this often happens with dirty ports where the dust etc shorts the pins easily fixable.

Thanks to everyone for your solutions. Turns out I just had to drain the battery all the way once to solve the problem. No idea what happened but all is working now.
