Hi.. Today for the first time i have experienced some strange problem.. When i connect my phone to PC via usb cable, the battery starts charging but my phone doesn't give me the option to mount the SD card.. It doesn't even see the pc it only charges the battery..
I've figured that out by accident, when i tried to use "adb" to connect to my phone, adb couldn't see the phone even though it is connected..
I'm using froyobread rom, and have used it for a couple of days and everything was fine until now.. Any suggestions? Might this be a hardware issue?
Change rom, if it remains then it is hardware problem, if it is solved then you have to reflash the rom or try another..

Kernel?
Sent from my E15i using xda premium
I am almost sure that this is a ROM problem.
Did you full wipe ?
If the problem persists , try opting for another ROM
Hmm try different port on your PC. BTW what kernel do you use, stock? If stock then you might want to try re flashing the rom w/out wiping data and see it still persist if still persist try a clean flash, if still persist then ya might be problem with your usb cable/port or the PC or phone itself.
I've got the same problem but im using LinuXperia Yoper V1 , i did full wipe and install ROM over again , install diffrent ROMs,try plug in the other USB port and all of that ... BUT i dont have the original cable which SE gave us ... mine its not original ;/ but it was working , now its not ;/ same problem as OP ..
Mount via CWM...
In CWM, under Mounts, try connecting phone to computer and mount USB storage. If this can be accessed, then it it likely a rom issue.
Also, when you connect USB to computer, is there a "device software driver installing" notification (on windows) and then does it install driver successfully? If there is no driver installed, the comupter cannot read anything
Thanks for all the replies.. I'm using stock kernel.. I've tried to revert the backup made with xrecovery to the earlier stage when the USB was still working.. And it still doesn't work.. Can't figure this out..
I'm using USB cable that came with the phone.. Original SE cable.
The trick is, after flashing the rom for the first time, it worked great, but a weat or two later, i couldn't use usb.
Tried connecting it to other usb ports, tried connecting it to other PC's.. Doesn't work..
@yusiang1998
I've tried under xrecovery the same option, still doesn't work, I'll try now with CWM and will get back with the results.. If everything else fails, I'll try to revert to a stock backup made with xrecovery.
Okay, just to update.. Mounting the USB from CWM failed.. PC still can't read my phone.. I'm not sure if even my phone can see the PC..
I've noticed another problem - don't know if it's related..
I had FTP Server on my phone and SSH Droid so from time to time when i connect my phone over wifi (on local network) i use my pc to wirelessly download/upload files on to my phone. Now, when this usb problem started to appear, i can't even use those apps.. The service starts sucessfully, but my PC can't connect to my phone address...
And reflashing the rom failed.. And i can't use the flashtool to restore it to factory default settings because of the usb problem :/

Nope.. I havent experienced that. But i don't even charge the phone when it's off.. But what i do experience is sometimes.. After unplugging the charge cable, the led diode still lights in green.. :/
Still can't figure out the usb problem.. Anyone has any other ideas.. Or this is some global X8 problem after a while and has nothing to do with using custom roms xD

What about wall charger? Maybe it is the same? Or maybe it's not even related to the issue and was only temporary. oO

I have the same freaking problem, some one no a fix?
Hi guys,
I have a problem.. my phone won't connect on the computer or with charger.
If i restart it, it just displays the battery and the spinner for a few seconds and then the screen goes black again and the process repeats over and over. I'm able though to get in download mode and flush successfully a stock firmware with odin.
As long as i keep it plugged on the computer it can connect with kies and recharge, once i unplug it won't connect again..
Can anybody help?
Thanks in advance.
well the fact that you can flash thru odin and connect with kies ect suggests its not a hardware fault...
perhaps you could try a (stock) firmware that contains all 3 files. and maybe flash it using pit and repartition... sounds like some sort of bug in the rom, confusing the phone when connected..........
just to make sure.. you have the latest drivers installed right ??
I've flushed JPO stock firmware, everything now works fine but it won't boot unless i connect it to the charger. It shows empty battery..
very strange..... are you running CWM if so boot into recovery and wipe battery stats.. then try charging the phone for a bit whilst it is switched off...
if it still fails to work properly then i must be wrong and it could be some sort of hardware fault... only samsung can repair that (unless you have insurance for a straight swap)
I wiped the battery stats but with no luck.. it didn't work.. I don't have insurance.. anyway, thanks for your help.
All i can say is that i have seen similar problems posted .Phone not working unless charger plugged in almost as if phone has lost the battery .
Dont know if problem was solved but a thought would be bad battery connections .

No firmware and USB problem
I have a large problem, my wifes galaxy s won't go by the first screen (says GALAXY S GT-I9000)
So i thought i'd fix it using odin using the 3 button combo. But that isn't working anymore.
Luckily i have a usb jig which gets me to the download mode ...... but !
When i connect the pc cable (tried 2 OE samsung ones) i get device not recognized so i can't use odin to fix it.
What can i do, or do i have to send it to a repair centre to be resurrected ?
I have searched and searched but not found any topics with the same issues i have on her phone.
Need a bit more info i.e were you flashing the phone??if so which rom?
Then phone was playing up so i flashed darkys 10.4.2.
However the usb connection wouldn't work so i flashed it to standard JVT
using mobile odin.
Then i rooted it and went to go into recovery mode and it wouldn't turn on.
I tried to help the gentleman , but no luck . From what he told me , phone turns on after battery insertion , and It is not recognised by usb => so odin not usable .
If you can get to download mode but the phone isn't recognized by your computer then i'd say it's a driver issue. Install your phone's drivers again. To do that, just installing kies is enough BUT be sure to open task manager in windows and kill any process that has kies in it's name before opening odin.
If that still isn't flying i'd try using different USB ports and even with a different computer.
Extra advice:
- try not to flash bootloaders for now. That means picking a rom that has no bootloaders included but matches your phone's current bootloader. If you were using gingerbread flash a gingerbread rom, if you were using froyo, flash a froyo rom.
phone not starting up past first screen (GALAXY S GT-I9000 in white on black screen), phone not recognized neither by pc nor laptop ( usb drivers installed ) , phone turns on after battery insertion without pressing anything.
This manual is from a German board
Take the battery out, then hold the 3 keys combo for download and put the battery back on. Now you should start the download mode.
If not, then try it with a jig.
Good luck!
GOT A JIG. WORKS FINE.
But pc wont recognize it !!
Have you double checked that you have the right drivers installed? I know you have to use the Nexus S drivers for CM9, not sure about Darky's ROM.
Drivers
Download drivers 64 bit | 32 bit from here and install.
It is NOT the drivers as my other galaxy s connects fine every time.
Drivers have been removed and installed repeatedly.
I would suggest a different computer, maybe a different cable. I have this same issue with my infuse, hope you get this resolved.

You could try Adam outler's unbrickable mod.
Pasted from other thread:
I just wrote a wall of text b4 and my browser crashed GG
Well, here we go again, i will only tell what I did/the process
I did a nandroidbackup, then i wiped all data (data+cache+dalvik), installed CyanogenMod 9 (Build 16), it rebooted automaticly, so I entered recovery again, installed Google Apps from there, wiped data and cache (no dalvik), rebooted.
Ended up looping at the Samsung screen (not animation), and I couldnt do the 3-button-combo, so the NANDroid backup is useless.
I can enter the download thing, but i dont even know what it does.
Tried plugging it in the charger (after letting it dry out during the night), and only the loop thing appears. Cant do anything.
I see that theres something called odin (Since my download thing is working (VolDown+Home+Power) if its that you mean.
If its possible to fix my phones state, please tell me how, since I startedrooting, flashing and stuff yesterday (Gotta start at some point) and followed HDTechVideos tut (On his website)

I have nowhere near enough ability for that. Pity though.
Your problem is most likely the USB port. Maybe cleaning it might help. It happened to me for a few months then when I got the S2 I stopped using it. Began to use it as my home 3g wifi modem and kept it on charge the whole time. A few weeks later tried connecting it to the computer and it worked first go. Ever since it has worked perferctly. I suspect the problem possibly started by a rain drop getting into the port.
Mind you, even when it wasn't being recognised by the PC, I would constantly connect, remove, reconnect, reboot PC and phone etc and it would sometimes get recognised. Other times it wouldn't connect but Odin still recognised it.
Sounds silly but try leaving it on charge as I did and maybe, just maybe you'll be lucky like I was.

Hi, i bought a used Galaxy i9000 from a friend and it had Froyo 2.2 installed on it, i rooted the phone with an app on the phone because i couldn't seem to get any response when i plugged it into the laptop via usb lead. The computer will not detect the phone at all it just does nothing when it's plugged in. It will charge from the usb cable and charger but will not do anything once plugged into the computer. I tried using rom manager to install a rom, the last thing on-screen on the phone was saying that it was flashing the kernel, then it rebooted and since then the phone just displays Galaxy i9000 or it will also display a small circular clock type icon in the middle of the black screen and it is a frozen icon. The phone will go into download mode and i have tried to flash it with odin but when in download mode and plugged into the computer, Odin does not detect it, i have tried at least 6 usb cables all tested on my other i9000 and work fine but with this other phone they do not respond. The only thing i can think of is maybe the usb micro port is broken/faulty, what do you think it could be? Any help would be appreciated because i have been trying for hours for the past two days and cannot seem to figure it out, i'm just hoping the phone isn't beyond being repaired. Thanks
Did you install the latest version of samsung drivers?
if not install them, then try to flash again using odin... do it multiple times until you get it right.
and by the way, going into download mode without your computer recognizing your device is a big big mistake... hope it'll work for you
here you can get the latest drivers:

Hi , r u able to resolve this issue .. now iam facing the same issue .. my phone boots to download mode but my pc doesn't detect it & i am unable to go to recovery mode.
Hi everyone,
I started to use custom roms about some months ago, and I'm facing my biggest problem right now, hope someone can help me.
I flashed my phone via TWRP Custom recovery with CM10.1 and one day, suddenly the pin (that little entering for the charger and usb cables) stopped working, so I couldn't charge my phone in any "normal" way, I started using a direct battery charger. But today I flashed my phone with another version of CM and forgot to wipe data/cache, so now it's stucked in the CM boot animation. Thing is, I can't even access to recovery mode to flash again because for some reason, everytime I turn my phone off, it turns on automatically. Without pressing any button, and it doesn't give me time to do the vol-/home/power combo. I can't use any direct cable alternative either for what I described above. So I was wondering if some of you had a similar problem and can give me a hand with this. I'd be very much appreciated it.
Many thanks and greetings from Perú!

Press recovery combos when your turning off, see if that works, you might just be holding power too long and it turns on again
No usb at all? If you can connect with adb, you can reboot to recovery that way.

Use key combos mate... and after the phone vibrates, release only power button for avoiding the autorestart :fingers-crossed:
Hi, thanks all for your advices. I try em all but with no sucess. Though, something weird happened today. After the battery completely drained I tried charging it with the my regular charger, the cable to the wall one, and the phone vibrated, like it recognized it, but didn't turn on. Just vibrated. So I tried again using my micro USB to PC cable and the phone vibrated again when I plugged in to the USB port, but didn't turn on either, nor the PC recognized the device. Don't know if this is good or bad :S
If you have any more ideas, please let me know.
Thanks!

I'm trying this, but it keeps auto restarting. I'll describe what I'm doing, maybe there's something wrong:
1. Insert the battery.
2. Phone vibrates, I press Vol-/Home/Power and Samsung Galaxy S3 mini shows.
3. Keep pressing the combo and the phone turns off
4. Release the power button
5. Phone vibrates and again shows the Samsung logo and then the CM boot animation
Turn off again and same.
Thanks for the advice!
Hi again, I managed to get to "Odin Mode", the recovery that comes by default with the phone. Don't know why if I had TWRP installed. Does anyone know if it's gonna help me in some way? Remember I can't use a cable
Thanks!
How did you get into "Odin Mode"? Are you sure the cable is not working when the phone is in download mode?
Got into it by doing the button combo, tried several times and it was tricky but finally got it. And yeah I quickly connected to the computer (I have a Macbook but I also try on a PC) neither of them recognized it. Don't know what else to do
Try wireless adb.
When connected to computer:
Code:
adb shell
su
reboot recovery
As far as I know the phone should not vibrate everytime you put battery back. But if you're able to go into odin you should be able to go into recovery (unless volume up key is damaged). But... while in odin... you can go back to stock rom and that should solve lots of your problems mate.

You also need a working rom.
If the usb connector on the phone is broken, you can buy another one for 4$ on ebay, but you'll need to solder it and it's a smd component with small pins, so it may be difficult.
You can also try to reboot your phone in safe mode:

Yeah, thats true. A working system is needed.
Just a question.. When you try to enter recovery (vol+/home/power), have you tried to keep pushing when it reboots?
Have you tried to connect usb in download mode (vol-/home/power) to see if Odin detects it?
Whiteout a being able to synch to your computer or accessing recovery mode youre not gonna be able to restore your phone. Your best bet is buying a new micro usb cable (they are inexpensive) and restore using Odin.

Yeah, I keep pushing the buttons combo and it reboots again, it won't start to boot CM, just displays de Samsung logo and reboots. About the second question, I've tried connecting the computer while in Odin mode but it won't recognize it, I haven't tried with Odin itself open because my primary computer is a Macbook and don't have a PC with the Odin installed near to me all the time. Do you think it could recognize the device, despite the fact the whole PC doesnt?

Oh, I see. You mention you could access odin mode, Im not familiar with it, but maybe it is possible that you could flash TWRP again, or CWR from the odin recovery? Also if you don't mind me asking, do you know how did the phone's pin got damaged?
I'm starting to thing you aint got a recovery at the moment. I've seen this type of thing before. Problem is, if you can't get odin to work you won't be able to solve it :/

I have no idea. I didn't fall or anything, it just stopped working one day. I thought it had to do with a "software" thing more than hardware, because I was using CM 10.1 and of course it wasn't official, it had bugs. I actually was trying to go back to CM10 to see if that was the problem but I got stuck here.
