[Q] Battery Drain is making my life horrible!! - Samsung Galaxy Mini

Hi All,
I am using mini for the past one year and for the past 2-3 months am facing a lot of battery drain in my mobile. Before that also my battery drained quickly but now it happens in a drastic manner. Previously i used to have my battery life as 7-8 hours with full internet activities and games.
But, i am able to keep my mobile up to 5 hours only by stopping everything that runs and disabling internet and also making brightness to zero.
And one main issue is, when i am putting in charge, it gains 20-30 % in 10 mins and when i take it from charge, it reduces 5-10 % immediately and when i make a call or something it again drops 15-20 %. With this battery i am unable to predict how much time my battery will live before next charge.
Please help me out !! I will be grateful to you if u can help..
Just an update. Mt battery went down from 65 % to 16 % in a single phone call for 10 mins. Please help me guys. this thing freaks me out !!!

Maybe try to recalibrate your battery. I did that to mine and the life is much better!

Thank u friend ! tried that too. But no luck !!

Try some custom rom...might help...
If not, then you need a new one...
And remember, it is advisable to use your phone and let battery fall from 100 to 0% (or say 5-10) quite often...I.e. a full discharge...

No no no.
It's a Lithium Ion battery, do not let it fully discharge, it's better to charge it before it's fully drained.
That said, if you deleted battery stats, charged it up and it still has such drain, you may need to request a new battery.
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
You don't have to read all of it, just look at the the little boxes with info in them and see there how it is better to frequently charge your battery than it is to fully discharge.
It also shows, temperature is very important, so don't put it near any heating things (or laptops). You might not want to overclock too much either.

I feel stock rom is better in terms of battery than custom one's. tried a lot like cyanogen,andro-id.. after that came back to stock gb. did a last official update last month i think. could it be a problem ?

Thank u friend. i tried with two batteries and both of them are lives for same time approxly.. hence am feeling whether thats a defective phone or some software glitch !!

I too had that problem. But then I switched to Andro-ID. Life is less frustrating now.

We fit users also had an update (ddkt1, 2.3.6), which had a horrible battery life...and if we flashed any custom rom on it (I.e. using it as baseband), then the custom rom also gave poor life...
Because of that, I myself, am using an older stock rom (ddkq5, 2.3.4) as baseband...
So maybe that is the problem?
Ask other mini users from your region about which baseband they prefer for battery...

I'm also facing a similar problem, battery life really bad. I'm on CM7.2 Stable with the kernel provided with the ROM. Here is the link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697912
and my Baseband version is DDKT2, 2.3.7
Which baseband do you recommend?
Dude, do you have the DDKQ5 firmware? The hotfile links don't seem to work.

My mini also suffers from this kind of problem, from past 2½ months (or more).
And I suspect, the custom Rom or the battery mod tweak, by sterricson.
My pc is dead, so I couldn't Flash stock Rom.
Current Rom: Latest CMX from squadzone
Base: KPK 2.3.4
Please help us out.

i agree, its better to use stock rom(or stock-rom-like-customroms) it has better battery life than cm7 roms

Set a screen off cpu profile to under clock at max 122mhz min 122mhz. Your phone will go into deep sleep, and save you lots of juice. Also, use Juice defender to control mobile data, and that will also save lots of battery

U might try reseting phone to its factory settings, if u don't have anything important on you're phone... It worked for me...

Your suggestion is right, but the battery is !ABNORMAL!
Just let me explain,
_____________________
Phone-ON scenario:
1. Charged to 100% - 4200v
2. In just a minute, battery drops to 90%(egprs data on)
3. For Next 30m - battery 51%
4. In 10m battery Rapidly drops to 14%
5. After 10m, Battery drains slowly, now @ 4%
6. @ 1% after 24m.
Phone-OFF scenario: here phone is OFF
1. Plugged-in, shows directly 10% battery available
2. Battery charging @ 2%/sec till 50% within 10min(estimate)
3. Now the battery is charging as usual but a bit faster
4. @80% battery it's charging as normal.
5. Got 100% in 2 hrs(estimate)
6. At last, I Switched ON the phone. Voila battery 67%(much less than 3. But actual it's 100%
Battery HEALTH: good? :banghead:

Milestone & CM7 battery

Hi all
My phone was in for repairs recently. I got it back on the 8th (April 2012) and so I flashed the Vulnerable Recovery sbf and restored my CM7 backup I made the day it went in for repairs. Now, it's been a month, and I'm not sure what it used to be like, but my battery can't even last a day.
Currently I'm sitting on 92% and and took it off charge exactly an hour ago...and since I'm typing on my phone right now, by the time I'm done, it will probably be 90%.
Yesterday, with minimal use, my phone, after 12 hours unplugged, was on 17%.
Should I be concerned? I'm using CM7.1.5.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
actually dude... i also noticed that as well.. cm7 really drains the battery quick...
I need to know what you all are experiencing. It's just a few minutes shy of 12 hours since I unplugged. And apart from two 1 minute calls and updating 4 apps on the market, I barely used the phone (only checked this thread about 4 times on the XDA app). It's now at 14%. It's a bit worrying, because I'm still on my way home, and it's almost like I can't manage a day at work without needing to charge. And I don't carry a charger or USB cable around most of the time.
Please give me your inputs. I know this is a fairly common problem to hear about, but I'm sure my CM7 experience could be better. Ps, I have calibrated the battery. Mostly keep EDGE on instead of 3G if I'm not really using it. Also, never have the GPS on, nor WiFi, nor Bluetooth.

The milestone never got a good battery life. Since my gf had it new, she cant make a day. (she's not a "phone" girl, she use it for txt/call, thats it).
Around 25%, you have about 3 hours on sleep. if I use it, it will drop to 0 very fast.
The phose is a year and half old, 2 battery rotation and froyomod 2.9.3 rom.
And for the same time of use, my desire z can last 2 and a half easy.
I have a mugen 1700 battery (same size as the original one but 20% more power) and I can use my phone for 24 hours without charging (even if I usually charge it during night even if not completely discharged) .
I use 3g with toggle2g enabled, Facebook, whatsapp and other common apps and Widgets, I have autosync fully enabled, and I play games do less than one hour per day.
Maybe you should try a different battery

it's a good battery, but for the today MS quotation, it's like half of its value..
I've bought a DEJI 2000mAh for a bunch of euros, but honestly 2000mAh is just the nominal power, it lasts like the stock one..

um, what?
My phone is now one year old with stock battery. It's has a decent battery life, with toggle2g enabled, full autosync with Facebook, Path, Twitter, Whatsapp, Google+, Dropbox, Gmail, I get about 12 hours with moderate usage.
Brightness is fixed at max.
But it is unstable. Some days my battery will last for 12 hours, some days it's at 15% in 5 hours.
I dunno if it is CM7, but sometimes the phone has dificulties in syncing and it does get really hot.
To me, the stock battery is too hot, and keeps discharging faster the more hot gets. My mugen never gets that hot, and never fluctuates that much in duration

Oh yeah, I notice that too. when you use the phone, maybe 5 minutes later, the phone is hot.
One other thing, the milestone can charge 20% to 100% in an hour. its really fast, and its not very good for a lithium battery since it comes very hot.
what are your average charging time?

I would assume this isn't your daily phone anymore? You have no usage by texting or calls. Sure, you got 5 days standby time, but that's literally on an unused phone.

actually, you should leave it a bit more in charging state, to avoid internal counter fail. That said, yes, the battery is rather fast in charging. I really suggest you the mugen battery, that's fast in charging but slow in discharging
Hmm, going through all of this, my usage doesn't seem too different to you guys. Maybe I should just get used to it. I actually did buy a spare battery off eBay - but it's just another BP6X battery. I think I will try this mugen battery.

Hello d.casper.b. I upgraded to CM7.1.5 (from stock Eclair) in Jan 2012. Since then I have a bit better batt life. Standard battery. I unplugged my phone yesterday (Sunday 15th Apr 2012) at about 12:30 - 1:00 pm. It's now Monday 3:10pm and I'm at 50%. My wifi is on all the time, except I turn it off when I go to bed so it don't wake me up with email or whatsapp messages. I don't have sync on and my phone is not on a data service. I have only used it for some light browsing since unplugged. No music or streaming data. No screensavers. Auto-brightness. I will use the bluetooth when driving home from work. That said - I typically get 24 hours+ on a full charge - except if I do some youtube or other streaming stuff.
That said - I don't think the ROM is the issue. You should try a battery calibration. Also - when it gets to 100% charge, leave it for at least 15-30 mins more plugged in.
Please stop suggesting battery calibrations. I really don't think anyone has a clue what they're talking about when they suggest it.
What you all call "battery calibrations" doesn't do anything other than make Android forget how the battery has been used -- that means the USAGE STATS. It can take a few charge/drain cycles before the battery meter reads true after that. It doesn't do a damn thing to your battery life.
destruct2k sorry - but no need to get hot under the collar about it. But in a sense - you have a point about the batt cal. It's been suggested on other threads - but I've never tried it - and so I shouldn't be recommending it to anyone. I only repeated what others had suggested some time back. Peace.
Anil - You're right, I overreacted there, but not too long ago I saw a 3-page article posted on Google+ by a woman that works on Android for a living about how "stupid" (her word, not mine) the concept was that deleting a file in software could somehow affect the battery's ability to hold a charge. Ever since that read, my opinion on "calibration" has changed significantly. If I could only find that article...
I have the same issue. And it's kinda strange because it's only comin up with CM 7.2
The worst battery life was 30 minutes. I charged it to 100% and I went for a walk before I went to my dance class to teach and after 30 minutes it's drained from 100 to 13% and I did nothing just listening to music. Weird. And when I charge my battery it's like going to 20% like in 5 mins and then 2 mins later it's on 60% and then 40 minutes later it's charged...I'm tryna find a solution for it cos it's soooo frustrating and I don't wanna change my phone til Milestone 4 is coming out!

Using a fixed brightness is pointless if you want to compare across devices. What is 50% on some devices might be 70% on others.
The only way to truly compare would be to use a brightness meter on a reference image to set brightnesses the same on two devices.
It has already been said that the Optimus 4X is much brighter than most LCDs, and I'd be inclined to agree, it really helps for sunlight legibility.
Low battery life
I experience the same problem. I am a heavy user of the phone so the screen is on often.
My experience is too much comparable with my previous phone, the sony xperia x10 which has a battery issue.
My phone becomes also very hot while charging. I never experienced this with a phone so much as with this one.
I will factory reset the phone and perform a battery test. I will keep you posted.
Have you updated your phone ?
The v10b update is supposed to fix the battery and heat issues.

Maximum Ability Maximum Battery Life

Greetings,
So as many of you may know the battery life on the Optimus 2x is terrible. with lots of mixed reports. some ppl 24 hours some ppl 12 hours and even some saying 36 hours. i guess theres a few with like 4-6 hours.. Like me, i find my battery lasts roughly 6-8 hours. when im using the fone for why i purchased it. if im trying to SAVE battery. i can squeeze 10-12 hours out of it.
however, this lead me to think everyone who is trying to save battery finds it usually involves turning off everything u can do without. disabling alot of stuff etc.meaning, ROMS that perform well with everything disabled, would be recommended over those that are not. yet these roms that dont perform so hot under lock down, may actually perform better than the very same rom that out lasted it but with everything on.
what i want to know is, which is the better rom that allows me to have everything ON. im talking
wifi 3g data gps (prob not BT who uses that anyway? j/k) rotation, display brightness, motion sensor, gyro + the works.
which ROM would give the superior battery life over the others, with that in mind. EVERYTHING available.
<rant>
Because im sick of having to look @ my fone when i want to do something and think. well its locked down i have to quick menu or widget enable data, turn on 3g. or wireless. oh now i need gps. watch it chew juice turning on. use it. then turn it off again. seems pointless.
i want all my fone all the time. its discouraging when i know i should be using my phone for alot more. yet i dont because im so worried about trying to conserve battery, im over it. i dont care if it runs out of battery in 6 hours. it was going to anyway, at least i can do anything with it at anytime. withing that timeframe.
</rant>
DISCUSS!
i think ill start by disabling the "% and battery icon " haha
This is a "which is the best ROM" kind of thread and it'll probably be closed by a moderator as these are not allowed here ^^
Anyways, to answer your question I'd say Temasek's CM7 has proven to be the most stable, battery friendly ROM in the past year for me. However, as functional as it is, I find it boring when compared to CM9/CM10 or ICS. Tonyp's PA 12 is another good choice, even with its few flaws (no hwa, for example).
I guess you won't find a definitive answer for this as the experience varies greatly from one user to another. There are way too many variables that make it different for everyone such as the location, the capabilities and strength of each carriers' network, how you have configured your device, the apps installed on it, etc.
In short: try yourself and see which ROM suits your needs the best.
ive tried most the roms on here. but most the time i was disabling everything to see how long the batt would last.

Even I removed memory card read in some forum that some corrupted files make your media server to scan again and again..still no success
I dont have everything disabled - for example there is no need to turn off GPS... If its enabled it doesnt mean that it will drain your battery whole the time. It will drain your battery, only when there will be need to use GPS - for example when you open Maps, or application for navigation, tracking and so on...
I think that wifi and mobile data always enabled drains your battery the most. If you could live with mobile data disabled when you dont need it, you could have wifi enabled all the time with advanced settings = turn off when screen is off. Then you could have a lot longer battery life. I dont have wifi enabled all the time and if I dont have time for touching my phone, it could last for cca 3-4 days on CM7. If I have time, it will drop to 1-2 days.
I have off everything so it should last longer than why it doesn't even I deleted Google backup transport.apk as in s3 forum it was mentioned this file keeps draining your battery..Hope somebody have a fix presently on clean nvflash goodbye ROM by Stephan with 2nd core off and screen off frequency set to lowest 216
That's why I bought for the 2x and 4x extended batteries so I can use the phone like it supposed to be used. I also have a external battery tmas back up. Battery life on android period is bad. Ios or windwos phone 7 and 8 just have way more superior battery life. It is just a fact we android people have to deal with. It sucks.

Don't know I just feel atleast standby battery life as mentioned by lg for optimus 2x is 500 hours means around 20 days...atleast it should run a day
Yes the battery will last that long if the phone has no apps installed that utilize either data nor location services. My 2x gets great battery life if airplane mode and not touched it will like barely dropped battery at all but as soon as airplane mode is of battery goes to hell especially if u use data over cellular instead wifi. Same in the 4x. Android is the biggest battery hog period. My windows phone 7.5 with the same social apps and location apps and email set up last a whole day in the same usage pattern where my androids not even making it a half day. It is just that bad. Now with extended battery I get like 13 14 hours out of 2x or 4x not great that's on a 4400 mah battery for the 4x where I get on a 1600mah on Windows Phone 23 or more hours. That's the main part I hate about Android. The battery life is just that bad.

Sadly android sadly really is a battery hog. Specially on data it eats thought the battery in freaking no time. I bought extended batteries and they make the phone usable but also bigger but at least I can use it now without having it on the charger every freaking damn minute. I am still thinking about using my windows phone 7 as daily phone again. Because battery is just so much better.

Don't know people posted around 2 days standby with wifi and games don't know they edited or not...I don't remember that I don't charge by phone in less than 12 hours..I agree with you if you don't touch your phone than also it drains in 10 hours

Actually I'm die hard fan of Android but surely would try windows don't know what's with lg phones Samsung Android have awesome standby and great battery life my cousin have Samsung s advance it's not add speedy as 2x but battery life is 10 times batter better than 2x ...I think the problem is the processor lg just wanted to enter it's name in world record book and released before proPer testing ...
you may be right sir
Don't know my best stand by time was with Django Manouch 1.7 rom, without any extra apps instaled and using it only when needed, the phone managed 8 hours before reaching 10% of battery life remaining.

i think it's calculated like this
500 hrs standby OR 10 hours call time OR 3 hrs Wi-fi with screen on etc... not all together
some battery related apps are showing you exact time you have left for each purpose (surfing on wi-fi/3G, gaming, standby, listening music,...)

i have stock battery that came with the phone... phone is 9 months old...
my standby time is superb (1% loss in 8 hours over night with wi-fi off) so if you calculate it with simple maths - i can get some 700-800 hrs standby in theory (but i think noone leaves his phone untouched for a week )
my 2 cents...
wow, i put mine in 2g / data off / gps of everything off. wifi off. sleep it still be flat in 10 hours. lose 10% per hour.
Have same 10% per hour that too on brand new stock battery from lg service center

[Q] Battery life with XXLSZ ROM

I just flashed the Ultimate JB 4.1.2 XXLSZ v5.2 ROM. I had the previous Ultimate 4.1.2 XXLSC v5.1 before.
Is it just my imagination or is the battery drain higher with the later ROM? I think my pattern of usage is roughly the same but get the impression the battery percentage goes down noticeably quicker that previously.
Has anyone got any similar experience to share?
Thanks
Trevor
If you just flashed it then give it a day or two... it will be scanning and caching a lot of things... also do some restarts. you should notice a big improvement to smoothness and battery usage after about 2h with it. I have ulitmate running atm. and it has better performance and battery life then official.
Thanks for the reply. This is after having run it for a few days. However, will monitor for a day or two more and if it seems the same, maybe I'll try going back to XXLSC.

If was the same with me. Fast battery draining for the few days. But now it's okay. Very good ROm, awesome speed.
But i have other problem.
Once a day, or maybe every 2 days my phone (N7000 with 5.2 XXLSZ ROM) just turns off. And can't turn it ON, unless I put the battery out and back in. What could be the problem?
Im using LSZ (Ultimate) and prior to this I was using LSC (Ultimate) and I am getting much better battery life with LSZ.
When I say much better I mean about 18 - 24 hrs (including 7-8 hrs sleep) Which might not sound good to you guys, But My battery is worn out and desperately needs replacing, so 18 - 24 hrs is good for me

This you may call deep sleep or sudden death. There are several posts on this issue. You can try this one, in recovery mode select advance and boot into recovery and then reboot system. Second one is flash bootloader by eybee1970. Third is in recovery do a backup and then restore. Fourth is flash philz latest fixed2 kernel.

btw deepsleep is good, you mean sleap of death (sod) , which is deepsleep that usually can't wake up from. So in a sense, anyways confusing terms this sleep lol ZzZzz
i m on Thaidai v1.3 wif kernel philz 4.63... wifi n data permanently on...
battery can last near to 12hrs wif abt 2hrs screentime... i m satisfied wif this performance... but when i m asleep 8hrs at nite... the battery can drop from 100% to 80-84%... average drain of 2% /hr when the phone is doing nothing at all... for this i hav already uninstall watever samsung bloatwares n kill off active apps b4 gg to slp... but it aint helping at all...
anyone care to share if this is normal??
it happens to me when the wifi is on.. with wifi off i get 2% drain during sleep time
What I have noticed is that LSZ with PhilZ latest Kernel behaves very oddly on terms of battery management. First thing I noticed is that no longer charges battery beyond 80% of its voltage. Also, suddenly drops charge levels between restarts. Do anyone know why this could be? Check out my screenshot

battery life is good just as any official rom

your battery is over its best life, get replacement, if under 6months old and is original Samsung claim warrantee
I think the trick is to keep using the phone for a couple days and let it settle (caching and what not) my battery life in the beginning was abysmal. Now 3 days in, it works just as when I was on ICS, i.e. gets me through a day easily (30%) by the time i get home.
I have done little playing around with various ROMs as well. From the stock ICS, I updated it to official XXLSZ 4.1.2 release by Samsung. Multi window, Smartstay, pop-up play etc worked like charm - but the only trouble was below average battery life. After couple of days, I found myself on eBay searching for high capacity battery packs for N1. I tried few other ROMs as well - here is a quick synopsis of what all have tried so far:
•Samsung 4.1.2 XXLSZ Coocked ROMs: BurtROM, AllianceROM, Pristine and Ultimate are worth mentioning whom I have tried. Battery life is pretty much the same as what it is with stock XXLSZ - may be 10% better but no more. Ultimate ROM was best of them all.
•Custome 4.2.2 ROMs : Tried CM10.1 CarbonROM, PA. SlimBean, and Stunner2. No Samsung experience and need to compromise on original Samsung feel. Basically, you'll not get any feature of Note1. But they are very much stable. Of them all, Slimbean is the one which is giving me amazing battery life. Its almost 40% more than stock. With Stock, my battery is every day recharge, but with SlimBean, its spilling to second day.
Then I went on to try JonROM, and stock UBLSF 4.1.2 ROM. Currently running stock UBLSF and its second day. First experience wasn't very good - though the phone was used heavily. It lasted for 18hrs with 25% gone during sleep time of 8 hrs. Battery drain while browsing was very good with 1% drain every 2-3 mins. JonROM was much better in performance but its heavily stripped - I need stock email app or some free app to handle my office emails and calendar. if JonROM gets stock email app - I'll switch back to JonROM.
All in all, from my experience of all this flashing and ROM trying - UBLSF is definitely much better than XXLSZ. If you don't want Note features, use Slimbean. There aren't any cooked ROMs on UBSLF other than heavily stripped down JonROM [all Note S-Pen goodies are there], so use it if you are fine with it because it giving better battery life

[Q] Battery problem?

hey guy,
last month my note screen starts to flicker for seconds and then the phone shuts down by itself, this happens when the battery life is about 10%.
My battery is a little bit swollen so i thaugh it's a battery problem.
Now after i bought a new battery for 30DT (~19USD) the problem presist; the screen starts flickering at the level of ~ 30% then the phone shuts down and when i click the power boutton it wont start, so i pluged it to the wall charger and when it boots to the TW UI the status bar indicate 0%.
After this, the (new) battery keeps charging until 100%
so my question is: is this problem related to the battery, the wall charger or the phone itself?
why the phone does not show me the low battery warning and does not show me the sammy logo before it shuts down?
this is really weird guys since my battery still one day old!
please tell how to solve this problem or at least from where it comes!
thanks in advance

There are only two occasions where I have experienced anything like what you are describing:
1. when I had a bad battery (read dying battery, fine after I replaced it).
2. when there is less than 4% battery remaining on my N7000.
My guess is that you may have bought a bad battery.
Can you swap your battery with a friends for a day or so to see if you have the same problem???
good news

good news bro, this morning i flashed stock gb 2.3.6 jpla1; the battery drained little bit fast but when it went down to 10% the low battery warning popped up!! so i plugged the phone to the charger and it starts charging normally...is this a good sign?
what i know is that lithium batteries don't require any calibration or it's just jb (stock jplsb)??

My compliments on your English by the way, you write far better than a lot of English people.
Right, so the plot thickens.....
Was your previous ROM ICS or JB and was it a Samsung stock image or a custom ROM based on stock?
Stock ICS and JB were notorious battery drainers.
GB was much better with battery drain.
So it's no surprise you're seeing slower drain with GB.
But that doesn't answer the question of the abnormal drain on your Note.
Start with resetting your battery stats in recovery mode.
You're right about the battery not specifically needing calibration, but sometimes the Note gets a little confused about the battery level and doesn't seem to read it correctly.
I have reset the battery stats before when my battery has done odd things, it generally helps.
It's best to charge fully then reset the stats in recovery and let it settle for 2-4 hours (you can still use the Note while the battery is settling).
The battery indicator will show a massively reduced % after resetting the stats, and then the % will creep up as you use it - which is an interesting phenomenon to observe!!
Once the battery has settled, let the battery drain down to 20% at least before you charge it fully again.
This should fix any problems your Note has reading the correct charge level from the battery.
It's a while since I've used CWM (which I'm assuming you're using for recovery with GB), I think the battery reset is in the advanced settings, it's pretty obvious when you find it. (I've been using TWRP for too long to remember where things are in CWM!!!).
Then I would seriously consider installing Better Battery Stats (It is free to XDA users from the XDA thread).
Take a look at the BBS thread, there are numerous instances of devices with abnormal battery drain because of partial wakelocks etc.
Post your logs on the BBS thread and ask for help.
The experts on that thread are awesomely helpful.
The next steps are a little more drastic, e.g. replacing your USB daughter board and battery.
