I just flashed the Ultimate JB 4.1.2 XXLSZ v5.2 ROM. I had the previous Ultimate 4.1.2 XXLSC v5.1 before.
Is it just my imagination or is the battery drain higher with the later ROM? I think my pattern of usage is roughly the same but get the impression the battery percentage goes down noticeably quicker that previously.
Has anyone got any similar experience to share?
Thanks
Trevor
If you just flashed it then give it a day or two... it will be scanning and caching a lot of things... also do some restarts. you should notice a big improvement to smoothness and battery usage after about 2h with it. I have ulitmate running atm. and it has better performance and battery life then official.
Thanks for the reply. This is after having run it for a few days. However, will monitor for a day or two more and if it seems the same, maybe I'll try going back to XXLSC.

If was the same with me. Fast battery draining for the few days. But now it's okay. Very good ROm, awesome speed.
But i have other problem.
Once a day, or maybe every 2 days my phone (N7000 with 5.2 XXLSZ ROM) just turns off. And can't turn it ON, unless I put the battery out and back in. What could be the problem?
Im using LSZ (Ultimate) and prior to this I was using LSC (Ultimate) and I am getting much better battery life with LSZ.
When I say much better I mean about 18 - 24 hrs (including 7-8 hrs sleep) Which might not sound good to you guys, But My battery is worn out and desperately needs replacing, so 18 - 24 hrs is good for me

This you may call deep sleep or sudden death. There are several posts on this issue. You can try this one, in recovery mode select advance and boot into recovery and then reboot system. Second one is flash bootloader by eybee1970. Third is in recovery do a backup and then restore. Fourth is flash philz latest fixed2 kernel.

btw deepsleep is good, you mean sleap of death (sod) , which is deepsleep that usually can't wake up from. So in a sense, anyways confusing terms this sleep lol ZzZzz
i m on Thaidai v1.3 wif kernel philz 4.63... wifi n data permanently on...
battery can last near to 12hrs wif abt 2hrs screentime... i m satisfied wif this performance... but when i m asleep 8hrs at nite... the battery can drop from 100% to 80-84%... average drain of 2% /hr when the phone is doing nothing at all... for this i hav already uninstall watever samsung bloatwares n kill off active apps b4 gg to slp... but it aint helping at all...
anyone care to share if this is normal??
it happens to me when the wifi is on.. with wifi off i get 2% drain during sleep time
What I have noticed is that LSZ with PhilZ latest Kernel behaves very oddly on terms of battery management. First thing I noticed is that no longer charges battery beyond 80% of its voltage. Also, suddenly drops charge levels between restarts. Do anyone know why this could be? Check out my screenshot

battery life is good just as any official rom

your battery is over its best life, get replacement, if under 6months old and is original Samsung claim warrantee
I think the trick is to keep using the phone for a couple days and let it settle (caching and what not) my battery life in the beginning was abysmal. Now 3 days in, it works just as when I was on ICS, i.e. gets me through a day easily (30%) by the time i get home.
I have done little playing around with various ROMs as well. From the stock ICS, I updated it to official XXLSZ 4.1.2 release by Samsung. Multi window, Smartstay, pop-up play etc worked like charm - but the only trouble was below average battery life. After couple of days, I found myself on eBay searching for high capacity battery packs for N1. I tried few other ROMs as well - here is a quick synopsis of what all have tried so far:
•Samsung 4.1.2 XXLSZ Coocked ROMs: BurtROM, AllianceROM, Pristine and Ultimate are worth mentioning whom I have tried. Battery life is pretty much the same as what it is with stock XXLSZ - may be 10% better but no more. Ultimate ROM was best of them all.
•Custome 4.2.2 ROMs : Tried CM10.1 CarbonROM, PA. SlimBean, and Stunner2. No Samsung experience and need to compromise on original Samsung feel. Basically, you'll not get any feature of Note1. But they are very much stable. Of them all, Slimbean is the one which is giving me amazing battery life. Its almost 40% more than stock. With Stock, my battery is every day recharge, but with SlimBean, its spilling to second day.
Then I went on to try JonROM, and stock UBLSF 4.1.2 ROM. Currently running stock UBLSF and its second day. First experience wasn't very good - though the phone was used heavily. It lasted for 18hrs with 25% gone during sleep time of 8 hrs. Battery drain while browsing was very good with 1% drain every 2-3 mins. JonROM was much better in performance but its heavily stripped - I need stock email app or some free app to handle my office emails and calendar. if JonROM gets stock email app - I'll switch back to JonROM.
All in all, from my experience of all this flashing and ROM trying - UBLSF is definitely much better than XXLSZ. If you don't want Note features, use Slimbean. There aren't any cooked ROMs on UBSLF other than heavily stripped down JonROM [all Note S-Pen goodies are there], so use it if you are fine with it because it giving better battery life

hi guys im running firebird rom and my battery life sucks really bad. i take it out of charge at 10am and it dies around 4.30pm so does kernel makes battery life bad?
my kernel says : 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #28
please share
Depends. Some kernels are overclocked and will use more battery. Some are poorly put together and will use more battery. Some may not work well with one ROM, but great with another. Not knowing what you do with your phone it is hard to point a finger at the kernel. Poor reception, lots of wifi on time, lots of screen on time, GPS use, push e-mail...lots of things take battery. You need to see what it is you're using and whether that and not the kernel is your issue.
Short answer is yes, kernel affects the battery. All you can do is try a few different ones and see which is best for your usage.
im on messenger services and about 40-50 text and 3 mins of calls and my 3g on and brightness all the way down. no gps no bluetooth or wifi. i use the phone pretty much straight from 10am with maybe 2 mins here and there screen off

Well, what more do you want? With that kind of usage I doubt you can do much better with any ROM.
that kinda sux but if the screen is really on that much it is normal, i dont think any rom has been tested to surpass 6 hours screen on time.
one good rom was andromda with which i had a hard time running my battery down in a single day, usually went 2 without a problem and i do a lot of texting. also an old version of perception built off a bell vibrant i9000m rom was outstanding.
kernels affect battery life but clock speed on the cpu has less to do with it than many people think, the assumption is faster cpu speeds means more power drawn but the cpu is governed, the governor setting have a lot to do with it. think about it, is it better for the cpu to take 4 seconds on an operation @ 600mhz or do the same operation in 2 seconds @1.2ghz? depends on alot of things reallly but thew difference is alot smaller than people expect. there is also kernelhz which i dont know much about but reportedly if set down to 100 to match another frequency(cant remember off the top of my head) will increase battery life.
the kernel controls many aspects of the system but i haven't seen a kernel that has had a huge increase in battery life given the same rom since the 2.1 days. and even then the battery life wasnt as good as a couple of the 2.2 roms. it seems to me that the rom has more to do with battery life. some vibrant ports have severe battery drain issues on the captivate. some i9000 ports have amazing batery life but most are about the same as stock to slightly better.
if battery life is a problem first you want to see if any processes keep the phone from sleeping. figure out what apps show in the running process list and try killing them, if they don't die/they start back up then freeze them in titanium backup and see if anything makes a difference. careful freezing system processes, some are not detrimental, most are.
other tips are to try apps that manage 3g like juice defender. and use wifi when you can 3g is a bigger battery hog than wifi. also there may be a way to set the phone to default to edge instead of 3g but i think it varies with the build of the rom, you will have to research that one.
other things to look at is weather you sync to google, facebook, twitter ect. those feeds widgets can eat battery as well as the sync process. weather widgets like beautiful widgets seem to have an effect on some of the vibrant ports i used but not as noticable on other roms.
Yikes...that is some awful battery life. I'm surprised because speedmod (and it's variants) is pretty well accepted as being the best kernel for battery life. There are many threads around here for improving battery life. I have personally found that my biggest battery user was constantly checking how much battery I had used.
If you are barely turning your screen off that is good battery life. You will never make it much past 5hrs screen time. Where people get like 40hrs on a charge is when the phone its not actually used, and their set up has good standby performance
CM7
When I used assonance I would get three days of battery life.
Sent using smoke signals.
As some have said screen time is the single biggest battery user. My phone will last for about 3 hours of screen on time. So I could have my phone die in 3 hours, or 2 days, it all depends on how often I'm turning that screen on.

Yeah, I would say if you're not getting at least 3 hours screen time then you aren't using your phone that much.

Not if you're in a bad reception area.
This is what I average on Andromeda. Some wifi, some GPS tracking, lots of music streaming via BT.
Of course, nearly everything comes into play. Modem, ROM, use, etc.

I apologize if this is in the wrong place. I've flashed a few ROMs, and I haven't been impressed with battery life yet. Some are obviously better than others but I have yet to see these day long battery life days even after calibrating battery and clearing battery stats and anything that's recommended.
I've started carrying a 2nd battery since I'm in the middle of coaching season and we take a good number of long trips in which I want to stream music or play games, etc while riding on the bus.
Can I get some opinions from those that have tried different ROMs on which gave you the absolute best battery life?

I havent a clue what your talking about i get 2 to 3 days out of many ROMs with medium useage best i seem to get is from Dilli,s rom and GB v.4 kernel UV 100 across the board this one i get 2 to 3 days of use with no bugs a few other ROMs have few things that dont work that i need, this ROM covers my needs and is fast good on batt very good choice for me.
is possible If u haved 3 or 4 hours of srceen time and some major texting and calling, and few hours of music u may never get good batt life depends how u use your phone.
I dont do more then 5 or 6 texts a day 5 or 6 calls a day i do use music app and headphones with screen off for about 4 to 8 hours the more i use the less i get this combo i use drains slow when i get to 10% and under it seems to hang on for hours before it dies all the way.
If you short charge your batt all the time u will kill it in a matter of weeks, U could have a bad battery or 2
Cycleing a batt all the way to full and all the way dead atleast 1 time a week or more batt life will be better
If you short charge your batt all the time it will get batt memory and only use the part of the batt you charge and disscharge to so if your useing 50% of your batt the it will only charge 50% if u use close to 100% it will charge to that.
Is true of all batterys car batt phone batts and so on.
I will tell u this me and my kid had same phone about 5 years ago because she short charged her phone all the time it would never last more then 5 or 6 hours yet mine would last 4 days with out chargeing.
we traded batterys and ofc she uses phone more them me it only lasted 2 1/4 days on that charge. but proves what i am telling u.
she learned from then on take the time and charge your phone to full and discharge as close to dead as u can.
easiest fix is do like i do i charge use 2 days near end of 2nd day i play a long vid till it dies the charge over night. and repeat i can go longer then 2 days but figer it is easier to charge over nite.
I also turn off gps, autorotate, data, bluetooth, wifi, also set wifi to sleep when screen is off, i turn off search for networks, i use a batt widget set screen to dimmest setting. and all the other stuff to save battery.

I agree with you and have found this to be particularly true of some of the newer ROMs, my guess would be bad Kernel/Modem pairings, best advice is to pick a ROM with a large number of users since the support will be better for those ROMs and continue to experiment with compatible Kernel/Modem combinations for that ROM until you find the optimum one for your device/location
I searched and looked in the Q&A forum. I can't find more than 3-4 people agreeing that X ROM has the best battery life. Then a couple people will say "no, this ROM has better battery life." But for the most part unless I just missed a massive thread, the battery ROM question threads don't get a lot of answers.
I was mainly looking at if I got 100 people (throwing out a random number) to answer which ROM gave them the best battery life, I might start seeing certain ROMs which have better batter life than others without having to flash a bunch of different ROMs.

It depends more on the apps and stats of your phone... are you running at full brightness? are there apps preventing your phone from sleeping? What is your wifi sleep policy? How is your signal, or are you getting the 50% Time-without-signal bug?
I'm running serendipity and get over 24 hrs. my usage is a couple hours of listening to music with poweramp, maybe 50 texts throughout the day, some gaming and facebooking.
I also havent cleared battery stats in weeks (although I've been on serendipity for about a couple weeks now). After flashing it at full battery, i just let it run to shutdown a couple times.
Some kernels are built for battery, and some apps or settings can be optimized for battery. Anything substantial will likely be included in pretty much every ROM, once it's known.
The main factor is that your battery meter is likely to act unpredictably for the first few days after you flash a ROM.

Hi All,
I am using mini for the past one year and for the past 2-3 months am facing a lot of battery drain in my mobile. Before that also my battery drained quickly but now it happens in a drastic manner. Previously i used to have my battery life as 7-8 hours with full internet activities and games.
But, i am able to keep my mobile up to 5 hours only by stopping everything that runs and disabling internet and also making brightness to zero.
And one main issue is, when i am putting in charge, it gains 20-30 % in 10 mins and when i take it from charge, it reduces 5-10 % immediately and when i make a call or something it again drops 15-20 %. With this battery i am unable to predict how much time my battery will live before next charge.
Please help me out !! I will be grateful to you if u can help..
Just an update. Mt battery went down from 65 % to 16 % in a single phone call for 10 mins. Please help me guys. this thing freaks me out !!!

Maybe try to recalibrate your battery. I did that to mine and the life is much better!
Thank u friend ! tried that too. But no luck !!
Try some custom rom...might help...
If not, then you need a new one...
And remember, it is advisable to use your phone and let battery fall from 100 to 0% (or say 5-10) quite often...I.e. a full discharge...

No no no.
It's a Lithium Ion battery, do not let it fully discharge, it's better to charge it before it's fully drained.
That said, if you deleted battery stats, charged it up and it still has such drain, you may need to request a new battery.
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
You don't have to read all of it, just look at the the little boxes with info in them and see there how it is better to frequently charge your battery than it is to fully discharge.
It also shows, temperature is very important, so don't put it near any heating things (or laptops). You might not want to overclock too much either.

We fit users also had an update (ddkt1, 2.3.6), which had a horrible battery life...and if we flashed any custom rom on it (I.e. using it as baseband), then the custom rom also gave poor life...
Because of that, I myself, am using an older stock rom (ddkq5, 2.3.4) as baseband...
So maybe that is the problem?
Ask other mini users from your region about which baseband they prefer for battery...

I'm also facing a similar problem, battery life really bad. I'm on CM7.2 Stable with the kernel provided with the ROM. Here is the link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697912

Which baseband do you recommend?
Dude, do you have the DDKQ5 firmware? The hotfile links don't seem to work.
My mini also suffers from this kind of problem, from past 2½ months (or more).
And I suspect, the custom Rom or the battery mod tweak, by sterricson.
My pc is dead, so I couldn't Flash stock Rom.

i agree, its better to use stock rom(or stock-rom-like-customroms) it has better battery life than cm7 roms
Set a screen off cpu profile to under clock at max 122mhz min 122mhz. Your phone will go into deep sleep, and save you lots of juice. Also, use Juice defender to control mobile data, and that will also save lots of battery

U might try reseting phone to its factory settings, if u don't have anything important on you're phone... It worked for me...

Your suggestion is right, but the battery is !ABNORMAL!
Just let me explain,
_____________________
Phone-ON scenario:
1. Charged to 100% - 4200v
2. In just a minute, battery drops to 90%(egprs data on)
3. For Next 30m - battery 51%
4. In 10m battery Rapidly drops to 14%
5. After 10m, Battery drains slowly, now @ 4%
6. @ 1% after 24m.
Phone-OFF scenario: here phone is OFF
1. Plugged-in, shows directly 10% battery available
2. Battery charging @ 2%/sec till 50% within 10min(estimate)
3. Now the battery is charging as usual but a bit faster
4. @80% battery it's charging as normal.
5. Got 100% in 2 hrs(estimate)
6. At last, I Switched ON the phone. Voila battery 67%(much less than 3. But actual it's 100%
Battery HEALTH: good? :banghead:

First, try re-calibrate your battery using batterycalibrator. If you fail, then using CWM -> advanced -> wipe battery stats. Its working for me

Do a pumb charge before calibrate ur battery
1.Charge to 100%
2.unplug the charger then plug again immidiately
3. Wait for 100% again and do it again and again until ur phone show full almost instantly after plug in.
Hi, I know a lot of people are having this issue with battery draining, but mine it's kind of illogical, After I install a new ROM the battery life is good, even very good, then after the 3rd or 4th charging the battery life gets worse and worse with no apparent reason. I'm struggling with this problem for over a year now and I can't seem to find a solution. It was all ok, till I got back from France last summer and I observed my battery was draining verry fast, I was on ICS then, after changing almost every ROM I could find I bought a new battery, an original samsung 1650 mA battery, but the problem persisted so I tried all the ROM's in hope I would find the right one for my phone (also changed a lot of modems, the captivate ones seemed to have a slightly better battery life, but I couldn't hear the voice of anyone calling me). So what do you think might be the problem, software or hardware.
Now I'm on SuperNexus 2.0 - I9000 - Milestone 1 [02-06-13] and I think this is the best rom for battery life I found till now.

My battery life the second day of using Supernexus 2.0 after second recharge:
My battery life after 3rd recharge:
After 4th recharge and using juice defender:
In standby while I was sleeping (I thought everything was ok)
Than after going out with my friends: (The standby time was at least 12 hours.)
My location is disabled, no sync, I rarely check my mails, I'm mostly using Whatsapp, Google Play Music, Making a few calls and a little Facebook and iGag.
So any advice is welcome/d.
Have you tried calibrating? Search play store for "battery calibration" (cant post links, im on mobile )

Yes, I tried calibrating a few times, but it doesn't seem to do much good.

If its those apps that wipe that certain file (batterystats or something like that) then it won't work. The battery "calibrators" wipe a file in the system that actually has absolutely nothing to do with battery life.
Proper battery calibration is done through charge/discharge cycles. So at this point your phone should be calibrated.
By the looks of your screenshots it does appear that you use wifi and data quite frequently (correct me if I'm wrong).
Few things you can try:
1.) Change kernel. Many battery drain problems are related to the kernel. If you're on Supernexus, try Mackay or Latrop kernel.
2.) Change rom. Some roms are optimised for longer battery life (Gamerzrom, EXTRAordinary and Sexynogenmod are examples)
3.) Greenify. Very good app that allows you to "freeze" apps running in the background such as Facebook. It doesn't disable them completely, but prevents them from running in the background.
4.) Turn off auto-sync. This is under Data Usage. It does mean that you might lose some notifications and you won't have data synced unless you do it manually, but I've found it helps to save that extra bit of juice. Not such an important one as the others though.

I've always used Semaphore as a kernel (ondemand governor setting) and I at least experience 1 to 1.5 days of battery life (assuming normal usage)

hey guy,
last month my note screen starts to flicker for seconds and then the phone shuts down by itself, this happens when the battery life is about 10%.
My battery is a little bit swollen so i thaugh it's a battery problem.
Now after i bought a new battery for 30DT (~19USD) the problem presist; the screen starts flickering at the level of ~ 30% then the phone shuts down and when i click the power boutton it wont start, so i pluged it to the wall charger and when it boots to the TW UI the status bar indicate 0%.
After this, the (new) battery keeps charging until 100%
so my question is: is this problem related to the battery, the wall charger or the phone itself?
why the phone does not show me the low battery warning and does not show me the sammy logo before it shuts down?
this is really weird guys since my battery still one day old!
please tell how to solve this problem or at least from where it comes!
thanks in advance

There are only two occasions where I have experienced anything like what you are describing:
1. when I had a bad battery (read dying battery, fine after I replaced it).
2. when there is less than 4% battery remaining on my N7000.
My guess is that you may have bought a bad battery.
Can you swap your battery with a friends for a day or so to see if you have the same problem???
good news

good news bro, this morning i flashed stock gb 2.3.6 jpla1; the battery drained little bit fast but when it went down to 10% the low battery warning popped up!! so i plugged the phone to the charger and it starts charging normally...is this a good sign?
what i know is that lithium batteries don't require any calibration or it's just jb (stock jplsb)??
here are the screenshots:

My compliments on your English by the way, you write far better than a lot of English people.
Right, so the plot thickens.....
Was your previous ROM ICS or JB and was it a Samsung stock image or a custom ROM based on stock?
Stock ICS and JB were notorious battery drainers.
GB was much better with battery drain.
So it's no surprise you're seeing slower drain with GB.
But that doesn't answer the question of the abnormal drain on your Note.
Start with resetting your battery stats in recovery mode.
You're right about the battery not specifically needing calibration, but sometimes the Note gets a little confused about the battery level and doesn't seem to read it correctly.
I have reset the battery stats before when my battery has done odd things, it generally helps.
It's best to charge fully then reset the stats in recovery and let it settle for 2-4 hours (you can still use the Note while the battery is settling).
The battery indicator will show a massively reduced % after resetting the stats, and then the % will creep up as you use it - which is an interesting phenomenon to observe!!
Once the battery has settled, let the battery drain down to 20% at least before you charge it fully again.
This should fix any problems your Note has reading the correct charge level from the battery.
It's a while since I've used CWM (which I'm assuming you're using for recovery with GB), I think the battery reset is in the advanced settings, it's pretty obvious when you find it. (I've been using TWRP for too long to remember where things are in CWM!!!).
Then I would seriously consider installing Better Battery Stats (It is free to XDA users from the XDA thread).
Take a look at the BBS thread, there are numerous instances of devices with abnormal battery drain because of partial wakelocks etc.
Post your logs on the BBS thread and ask for help.
The experts on that thread are awesomely helpful.
The next steps are a little more drastic, e.g. replacing your USB daughter board and battery.
