JVI Firmware, no CWM or Flashing possible? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
i tried flashing a custom rom to galaxy s for a friend of mine.
Personally made this on my ACE very often without problems.
He has the JVI Build and as i now found out theres no CWM in Root Kernel for this build?!
So how to flash anything? If i boot to recovery there is an error
"cant access /system/csc/DBT/system"
And if i want to install CWM manually the installation is aborted.
So what to do now?

Try flashing a custom kernel using odin (cf_root, or sephamore or whatever.
It doesn't have to be the same version as the rom (some of the newer ones will cause bootloops, but you will still be able to access CWM using the button combo).
Odin is your friend.

Ok ill try this tomorrow. Hoping to get it work.
Thanks Bro.

[Q] Boot after flash via Odin takes 1 hour

Hi yesterday I flashed stock LPY via Odin (before that I was on rooted stock LPY).
The flashing was fine and after approximately 5 minutes my device rebooted into stock recovery and displayed the green Android with the rotating blue molecule. The progress bar went immediately to about 25% and got stuck there about 65 minutes, the molecule was still rotating.
After this horrible hour of waiting my device booted and everything was fine.
I flashed a couple of times before via Odin but it never took so long.
Has anyone else experienced this or an explanation fit this wired behaviour?
I need to flash again because I can't get Root, neither via temp CWM method nor via rooted firmware or Cf-Root Kernel.
I think about to flash a three part firmware
but I'm not sure if it is a good idea or if this behaviour is a hint for problem with file system.

did u odin via pc or the mobile ? Odin via mobile is more risky and could be the issue if you donot have proper root, PC is slower and safer.
I used PC Odin. I tried again some minutes ago and it only took 2min o, O
But issues are the same. I can't root it. I flashed latest GB (wipe Rom) and got proper root. But after upgrade to ICS no way to root it.

That's what I was afraid of too. Now I flashed stock ICS again and again it only needed a couple of minutes. I rooted via temp CWR and everything is fine. No issues full Root fast as never before.
I think I'll never know what went wrong but that secondary. Everything is fine that's what really matters

If you upgraded from rooted GB to ICS ..chances are that you already have root now.. Check this by copying any file into the system folders ....

Bootloader (Twrp won't flash things)

Hello there, having trouble flashing roms with trwp 2.3.4 getting error 7.
So I was wondering how do I get into the bootloader or ADB mode when I only have access to twrp?
Want to flash Clockworkmod or a newer version of trwp but can't .
Very frustrating, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which kernel are you on ?
Just flash a stock cm10.1 kernel & reboot to recovery. Then flash whatever you want.

The note is unique as this is all built into the kernel... So flash a new kernel you get a recovery with it... Don't push anything with Adb...if you must use PC Odin

Think I'm on hydracore at the moment, that's what I tried over odin anyway.
Thing is I'm getting efs mount errors when I try and flash my previous rom (alliance v3)
Thanks though, i'll try flashing some different kernel.
Wooo, seems flashing hydracore from odin failed, manually flashing hydracore worked a charm on CWM 6 now and just flashed without any errors.
Thank you very much chaps!
(Although Rom won't boot, is there any additional steps to flashing roms with the note, don't have to do any boot.img stuff right?

Did you wipe ? Make sure you're on safe kernel.
I had the same !
When you want to flash sth, just uncheck that two thing above "slide to flash"

Brick

I'm on JB, just unlocked bootloader. I tryed many times to install cwm without succes, now my phone is bricked after i press on Root.bat, razr_i_boot was written and now i go bootloop on the BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED screen.
What i need to do please?
I need to install RSD and flash ICS then JB? Since i am allready on JB, i can flash directly JB rom?
If this is not the answer, please help me with that, how i can pas that brick? ((((((
I can see the fastboot menu (if this help)
It's enough to flash only the JB Files, ICS will brick your Phone completely.
In your case only the JB Boot.img is needed. You rooted with the ICS Exploit. On JB you have to root via CWM (RazriRoot2.zip)

Glad to see a quick answer, you save my day. Can you tell me please, from where i take only the JB Boot.img?

Thanks alot HSD-Pilot, really thank you! Phone boot now, huh ..
Now i must to see how to install the cwm, every time its reboot on stock recovery.
Hmm, today i got another brick and i dont understand why and how to solve it!
I format system, cache and factory reset in hope to upgrade to Pi-llama Rom 1.4 rom.
After i restart phone, i am stuck at bootloader warning menu.
Fastboot menu i am able to see.
How i can solve this to skip the bootloader warning and power up the phone?
I tryed to put the JB boot.img but is same, stuck at bootloader warning image.

[Q] Note Stuck in Bootloop

Good evening,
I have a N7000 with Stock ROM 4.1.2 and the phone is rooted. Today after a periode of time I started the phone and it did the usual updated, including the Superuser.
After the update it freezed and in rebooted it pressing the power and home button. Ever since then I end up in a bootloop with reboots. I still can enter into recovery (Philz 6.0.3.1), however if I delete for example Dalvik cache the phone reboots (don't know if it ends the operation, or if it fails).
I am afraid that the bootloop is caused by the SU, however I am not sure.
I would need some advice, how the exit from the bootloop. Do I need to redo the rooting and install the SU?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes, but it's XXLT4. I can't recall is that the latest 4.1.2?
2013-10-13.16.19.33_JZO54K.N7000XXLT4
Would that work?
If you did the backup in recovery, it should work... But I'm not that experienced either!

OK, I would give it a try....later today. Maybe any other suggestions instead?
Can I reinstall SU in the recovery?
may be try this..
boot into recovery and make a nandroid backup, then choose clean before new rom install. After its completed restore the nandroid backup and see what happens.

Thx. I did the backup, however as mentioned before it seems not to finish the operation and reboots instead. The date of the backup is shown as 2000-01-01...which looks quit wired to me. Time set in recovery is not ok either, but this might be due to taking off the battery earlier today.
I can try to restore my old backup but what would happen if it fails?
The date is not right because of the battery pull. Why does it not finish the backup? Any errors? Try an advanced backup of data partition only and see what happens.
If everything using recovery fails then you can use Odin method to flash a stock firmware..

Flashing with ODIN was what I thought as well. Does it matter if I upgrade from N7000XXLT4 to N7000XXLT5?
Should I do a factory reset from recovery first?
Sorry for the dumb q's...
Thx.
you can factory reset and then install the rom.
Solved

Here is an extract from Philz Recovery available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191 that will help you with the confusion.
What kernel to choose:
The important part is the Kernel code:
XWLPX-NEE
Kernel code is in red (LPX), for this example, you need an LPX ROM. However, often, you can mix kernels when they are close: LPF kernel with LPG ROM...
NEE code doesn't matter at all, I add it for reference. It is the CSC
XW: mixed, often doesn't matter for close regions. For example, XW and XX are often interchangeable. However, mixing a BU with an XW ROM or inversly, sometimes works, but often ends in a bootloop. In that case, either boot into recovery or download mode to reflash

Anything with N7000X-LT- will work fine, the latest rom is XXLTC, which you can get from samfirmware.com.

You must use a older version of Odin. I use a Odin version from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2609021. And try to use another cable.
Hi JanniekM00, and thank´s for the help, but the ODIN version in that page that you said is newer than mine. It is the V4.42. I tried it to but no luck. I tried with a diferente usb cable, one file and multi-file but nothing.
The version of android installed in phone before it as bricked was FROYO.
I am trying with GINGERBREAD roms. Can that be the problem?
I wanted to try with a FROYO rom but I can´t find anywere.

Our problem is there's NO a secure way to back up/restore IMEI partition, so you can corrupt the partition when you try it
