Hi, I'm new here... I've tried Nova HD and Owain's Kang Rom... Now I see the " [CM9][SkankWich] NekkidKanging!"... Bugs are the same? Opinions? I want video encoding/decoding for our Optimus 2x! And Hw acceleration! Please CM, help us!
I've just tried the NekkidKanging!... It's more smooth than the other, but... There isn't a BaseBand??? It's possible? Restored Cm7!!!
If you would use 2 minutes of your life to search then you would find that it is not devs fault, it is partly LG and partly Nvidia's fault.

Yeah, you're right... I know that if Nvidia releases nothing is very difficult for the developers make a Rom with H/w accelerration and so on...
Not possible.
Stick with cm7 for now.

Actually the latest Owains is pretty stable - it only crashed once today (compared to once every 2 hours on the last build, and once every 5 mins last time i tried NovaHD)
Iron Kernal bricked my phone though, so gone back to stock kernal

Guys,
i know NVidia and LG are *****$&#@(@(*@#(&*@# and they didn't release Tegra2 drivers for ICS, BUT, I'd like to you know if ICS rom for LG O2X runs videos on MX Player in SW (Software Acceleration) mode? And if it will work the HDMI output?
Many thanks!

I have nova HD as well and my Wi-Fi is working alright. Just tested now. My connection is 10mbit, and I'm 10 meters away from the router, which is not a good one.
The test screenshot is attached.
I don't know if wrong RIL can influence this, I think RIL only influences communication between the caller app and hardware, but, check for the "get RIL" app on play store. Worth a try!

i just switch to Owain today, despite the fact that the ROM failed to start at the first time everything seems to be working normally.
The only bug is when you run app that requires HW accel. like Chrome browser (Always get a forced close).

I need some advice:
I used Ramhack for a quiet long time now. The negative point of loosing performance for 3D-Applications (Games, Benchmarks..) is comprehensible and in my honest opinion totally acceptable. Next to the Optimus Speed I have a Dell Streak 7, where gaming overall is less complicated and I gain much more performance with this tablet (how ever..). So, you can see, is the p-990 aimed for my everyday use. Every day use means smooth, quick response, less random reboots for me. I need every freakin second my tools need to boot up, close applications, etc...
I want to do quick calls without a tip on the Task-Killer-widged before.
Currently I'm on Nova HD ICS. I really enjoy it, so I would prefer to stay on this rom.
So my big question:
Is there a way to get Ramhack on the Domination rom? Or maybe do you guys have other options for me?
I love this rom, so I really want to stay. But I need a hell of performance. Gaming is well placed on my tablet, so we dont need to take any consideration about it. Even if I need to type 3 freakin pages of code into the terminal. It's ok. I need speed and smooth response...
Thanks in advance!
You say that you love the ICS rom you're using, but assumes that it doesn't have the performance you need, right?
So, basically, your question is : " is there a way to make CM9 as faster as CM7?" The answer: no.
ICS has, by nature, a heavy hardware resources demand. I've tested a couple of CM9 roms out there and they're all fast at first sight, but the multitasking feature isnt performing right. Because our device has only 512mb of ram. So, that means you won't be able to alternate between 3~4 apps instantly, just because the ICS itself already uses a big part of your ram. You can try the V6 Supercharger for ICS script, but I do not believe it will magically turn your cm9 into a cm7.
Unless nvidia/lg release the hwa drivers for ICS, if you want a rock solid and ultra fast device you should use CM7. I recommend Temasek's unofficial builds, they're just awesome.
Cheers

You could just flash a new kernel. There are some CM9 kernels that offer the ramhack option. Cool.guy is right though. CM9 is slower than CM7 because of the missing hardware acceleration etc. Just use Temasek's latest CM7 build. Fastest ROM I've ever used!

Hey guys, I'm planning to sell my xperia mini pro to buy lg optimus 2x. I think optimus 2x is a perfect phone for me.
It has dual core, nvidia chipset tegra 2 I think which is good for gaming, 8mp, hdmi which is real important for me, big screen 4 inch.
I have no problems on my current phone xperia mini pro, been using it almost a year. Its just that a small screen phone is just not for me. And gaming sometimes can be really lags on it especially newer high end games because it only has single core processor. To overlock it and to install a custom rom and kernel is not easy on the xmp you need to unlock bootloader and that ****. But it is rooted.
I choose lg optimus 2x for my next phone. I used to own lg optimus one before i sell it to buy xmp. I love to install custom roms and kernel it because it is easy unlike sony ericsson you need to unlock bootloader. Is it easy to install a custom kernel and roms just as easy as my old optimus one?

For me it's a very good phone, but lg's software is not very good, infact i'm using temasek's CM7.. And we not have ICS yet.. Another thing is battery life, if you use it intensively and with 3g connection, you are fortunate if arrive at the end of day
Hope i have helped you.. if yes press the thanks button xD :victory:
I had bought the optimus 2x in end of December2011. ICS was promised by q2 but we hav not yet got it & the most imp is that d drivers r missing.
Hardware wise its a beast but lack of drivers makes optimus behind as per the current market. Wait till we receive an official ICS from LG.
If u r buying a new 2x dont go for it unless u r getting it cheap or wait till we hav official ics..

It's a pretty good phone still. Zippy, and doesn't really lag on cm7.
I would still buy it if I would get it for reasonable price. I bought mine as used in the November 2011. I paid 200€ for it and it was like a new because it had screen changed recently. (Now I've got few small scratches on it. But thankfully you need to look with light to find them. :crying
I'll think that I made a good choise because by that time used SGS2 phones prices started from 350€+ and the O2X isn't really that different. Only not so good thing is Nvidia... But the 2D HW acceleration and non functional video recording isn't that dramatical. But always remember that we will get the ICS sooner or later and our devs will cook JB for us after that
BTW: One month ago we got the O2X at sale for 150€ at our local carriers shop. And that price was without simlock and plan.
Currently I can't find other phone with that good price/HW ratio. The most comparable phone in the category as new is the HUAWEI U8860 but even that costs 250€
It isn't still worth to buy in middle 2012, it is worth to buy for the first time since this phone came out.
There are many good ROMs and kernels available now and ICS will be there in a matter of days or weeks.
So yes, buy it
No, don't buy it. You'd buy a pig in a poke, not knowing whether and when LG will realease ICS. Better invest in a Nexus or some good device of the Samsung Galaxy series (S2 or S3).
(I would only buy it for less than 100€)

Additionally today they uploaded the first v30 ROM on their servers which will 99,9% be official ICS. For the korean version at least.

No.
I got mine for a cheap price and Im VERY happy with it. Im currently using CM7.2 stable and the performance and battery are great. I find the 2X very pretty and it has a good camera too, plus it has FM radio wich I use a lot
I also have an Atrix 4G. IT has more ram (1GB) but in general I find the 2X runs smoth and faster
ICS is really taking a long time to get released but Im sure were getting it in the next month
If you find one for a good price I say go for it
Just dont buy it! i dont like this phone at all.. buggy and laggy.. i bought O2x this year and used it like 3 month and came back to my htc desire which is much better..

But the available ROMs meanwhile are awesome - even if ICS still would need months, there would be smooth and snappy Gingerbread ROMs - if one buys the phone NOW he'd already start with good ROMs, so why shouldn't he?
No, just no. Besides the obvious software problems, LG also cut a lot of corners in hardware. Yes, the IPS screen still looks good today, but 512MB RAM is just unforgivable. I also suspect LG used low grade flash memory which exacerbated the lagginess.
It depends on what price you're getting it for.
And if you're doing a lot of 3G network, then i'd suggest no cause there's a risk that the radio gets cranky.

The internal flash memory of O2X is of high quality. It is better than class 10 SD 2.0 - you can test this with any performance benchmark.
It was the world's first dual-core phone, the 512 MB Ram at the time of release really weren't that bad. And they still are enough for ICS, just try CM9. Useless LG apps will be removed anyway from custom stock ROMs and custom kernels will get Ramhack and virtual Ram enhancements so effectively useable RAM is far higher.
Maybe get a Galaxy s2?
I bought it 3 months ago at the price of 150 EUR. Currently I run CM9 Kang V30. Very smooth, play asphalt 6, reptide, golf 3, gun shadow ... with ease, I think ICS (at least CM9) even much faster than stock 2.3.4 v20, and definitely more beautiful. Only I can not play or record video which I dont quite need. So all in all very good price vs performance. Never regret since.

For video playback - mx player with its codec. For recording - video cam illusion. I tested it on Paranoid Android ROM and it recorded smooth video with 640 resolution. So all in all Paranoid android at least has it all working. I came back to my MIUI based 2.3.7 rom though. Just addicted to its eyecandy.
As for is it worth it I'd say yes. But. Only if you find it in good condition and for around $200 or less.
Updated to ICS using LG Update tool...now ready to bin my phone. Gee I was really stupid and just assumed that an official rom from LG would (a) work better than previous GB and (b) add new features rather than take away features. So far:
a) HDMI out not working
b) exchange active sync not working
c) no way to turn off camera shutter
d) LG UI laggy and slow
e) no real improvements in photo, video or music quality.
without the ability to sync to my work emails this phone is next to useless for me...
How has everyone's experience been? any of the above??
Being a newbie at flashing roms and the likeI assume I can get back to stock GB somehow ?
Yes it's awful extremely slow and buggy. Now since they have released it it might even be low priority to solve bugs....
You can revert to GB.
Use smart flash and a smart flash copy of the GB firmware.
Here you can find the stock firmwares V10 (froyo) V20(GB)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035041
And here is how to flash it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008070
just put the file with AP in the name where it says AP and CP where it says CP.
Might need to try to flash a few times if it fails. Or do it with the battery inside after the software update mode have been activated.
Good Luck
No problems here
Yes it's pretty bad. I found GB to be bad too though.
It took the Devs here to do LG's job for them and make GB good and they will do the same for ICS too I am sure
Yes, you can go back to stock GB but you will need to do a bit of research, like how to use Nvflash and/or smartflash. There are guides around if you do some searching.

I had the same opinions with stock ROMs on several other lower-midrange non-Nexus devices. HTC Sense was a performance killer on my old Desire Z and Touchwiz also made my friend's GS2 lag at times. On the newer superphones like the GS3 and HTC One X these skins don't cause any lag, but they don't deserve to exist on weaker models.
LG should have known better than to overlay that s**t on ICS with only 512 MB RAM... how hard is it to give us vanilla android? They did it for the T-Mobile G2X in the states (froyo).

I'm in your Opinion. I went to V30a because with CM10 i got often BSODs and on CM10 is a very high battery drain... But CM10 was much faster and smoother Hope the Problems in CM10 get fixed.

Devs have already made what is to be made from ICS. There isn't much more into it than what has already been done. Only thing that is being awaited now is official source codes so the developing of CM10 & CM10.1 truly can show its colors
I disagree.
It's not any worse than any of the GB ROMs. I don't really imagine, what you're doing with the device on a daily basis, except of testing absolutely all of the functions (e.g. HDMI out - I bet more than 50% of people never use it), and launching all apps or scrolling rapidly to just check "smoothness".
I'm pretty use we'll get the small things you mentioned fixed with custom ROMs based on this ICS release.

there you go... the fact that people have to resort to custom ROMs to get acceptable performance says a lot, right?
While I'd never use a stock ROM, I'd expect it to be smooth and responsive at the very least without bogging down from the smallest tasks like having 3 browser tabs open with music playing and whatsapp in the background.

As for me, the best stock ROM I ever had on this phone:
a) Don't have a solution here unfortunately...
b) Try Nitrodesk Touchdown app, works like a charm with a lot of additional useful functions than the built-in email app? PM if you need the app
c) Seems like silent mode can be a solution (though not practical to change mode everytime you want to use the camera)?
d) No such thing on my phone, fastest LG stock ROM ever on my phone.
e) I was already ok with the quality: it's a phone, not a camera. Photos it makes are not really good I agree (I regret my Xperia X10i for that!!), but I don't expect miracles from it. Maybe another app can do better, but I don't know any...
Finally, battery drain is very correct, much more than with GB for me (see pictures attached).
So I can't agree with you, this ICS stock ROM is much better than any other LG stock ROM. I come from DJ1.7.1 which is an excellent ROM, and still, I will keep using ICS, waiting for the developers' magic!
HDMI out is working btw...What are u talking about;
720p only but other than that works properly.
Have not tried HDMI yet.
It is waay faster then GB in all apps. Had reverted to V20Q before V30A (to check official update and there was not any in my locale). And honestly, GB was mighty slow compared to ICS. (And I found V20Q faster than 90% of ROMs here, Django - recommended to me as faster - looks hideous. Even if it was faster, I would not be able to use for it looked like something from 1999. And those animations, no matter if were faster to render, were waay too slow)
Stock GB also has terrible problem with screen tearing.
CM7 was fine, but was pretty much the same in terms of speed. (And I really do not overclock/ramhack my phone, for it decreases stability dramatically - after 50mins of calling at 13xxMHz, you fire up browser and it crashes for overheat...)
ICS (stock) on the other hand is faster than GB at stock speed.
And CM10 is faster than ICS (stock).
So there is that.
I mean, in stock ICS I still wait instant/1,5 secs for phone app to start. But it is better than GB - 3 secs. And it is worse than CM10 instant/0.6secs.
All that said, LG is terrible software maintainer, but P990 has only 512MB of RAM (with 128 MB alocated to GeForce ULV). Therefore I am not that suprised.
And do not use any memkillers or other stuff. Basically to do all this app provides, just set the limit for background apps. That said... if you are using e.g. Talk, SMS, Phone, Browser constantly plus some other apps (like InternetBanking app or GDrive, Maps) it might be better for your experience and battery to just let it as it is on default. It works better when they are in RAM.
Lovin' It - Stop complaining
I completly disagree - it may be a bit late but there is no reason to be pessimistic about it.
a) It does work - I just tested it on my TV. There is no options for it in the settings anymore though, but it runs at 1280x720 anyway. (I know 1080 was the highest)
b) I don't use it, so can't comment there.
c) Yes there is - I use Llama and my silent profile shut the shutter up. So its either notification or media volume.
d) No, its not. Maybe for the first minute of boot before you kill some programs, but other than that fastest UI so far, even though I still installed GO Launcher.
e) Haven't tested, but is 1080p recording in 30fps now? If not, this is from ICS changelog for O2X and other phones (LGSingapore):
adding bitrate video recording (720p only 7Mbps who first kept so 9Mbps, which first 1080p 16mbps 10mbps now), fixesbug camera (focus, time capture, white balance)

err..excuse me but I have been using the 'new features' of the ics rom for 24hrs now and I can verify that (1) HDMI is not working (whereas GB rom was working) and (2) ms active sync is not working and I have not been able to retrieve emails since installing ICS (and I was definitely getting them before ) .
I appreciate this may not be the same for everyone -
The point of this post was to share my experiences with the new rom and hopefully get some advice or solutions from others who may have been through the same problems ...isn't that what these forums are for ..
PS: flashed back to GB rom and all working ok again...obviously something about my phone and v30 that didnt get along !

So happy Discussing.
Have a nice Day/Evening.
I'm using the latest cm rom and change from time to time between the werewolf and the ph85 kernel. Everything works fine

I am using the latest official CM10.1 Nightly build and play around it for 3 days. It is really great. Compare it with Stock LG 20B JB. I found
The pros-
1, The speed and response of UI, open up apps, web browsing and etc. improved a lot!!!
2, Less heat is generated
3, A lot better battery life.
4, A lot more control on everything.
5, Officially support FB home and it runs perfectly (You can even download it from the Play store)
6, seems it has better multi-tasking, at least it won't kill too many of the background apps (I have VLC direct running on background, I will always get killed on stock LG rom, but on CM10.1, it will still running while I am doing something else)
7, Better and more pretty UI.
The cons-
1, MHL output is not working correctly. (and it seems it will never work)
2, No custom ringer and notification sound.
3, All volume seems less loud than the stock
4, Media won't scan again while you unplug and plug the SD card back on.
5, Camera has less control and lower performance (HDR run slower that it really wait and take 3 slow shot to compose, no way to shut down the shutter sound, no ISO control and only +/-1 exposure control)
6, Too many option and control on setting, you might not have an idea what it really do....(maybe it is a pros for some ppls, haha)
It is just my opinion during these 3 days. Maybe some of them is just a bug or I just too new to this. Hope you guys don't mind. Even there is a lot of Cons, I think this ROM is very nice. Thanks. =)

Well I'm currently in the process of reverting to v10a. Call me crazy but if you're a gamer it's the fastest rom with 99% of games working great. Since then LG became obsessed with overheating and slowly degraded its performance. Now that I'm unlocked I'm going to see if it's possible to use proper clockworkmod on this rom, if it works maybe someone can port some custom kernel features. JB and cm10.1 are still great though and I plan to continue experimenting with them as more stuff is developed

I have also switched a lot in this last month or so but just in between Stock, CM10,1 and Werewolf Rom.
1. For me stock has the best battery results almost used phone for 40 hours or so still with some battery left and had absolute no problems at all with the baseband issue ( I hope xtribas and others who do have it get over it as soon as possible with the help of good development).
2. CM10.1 is great work and a build of devotion from its developers almost everyday comes a new nightly with some features and tweaks. Runs very smooth and till now have had not many bugs I would say some problem with baseband wakelocks here but not in Stock which I cannot explain why.
3. Werewolf's Rom one of my fellow Countrymen is Fantastic I really appreciate his work, time and efforts. It's an awsome Rom fast, stable almost reliable like stock. It will be best Rom after Stock I guess.
I am not a Gamer so sorry to all Gamers I don't know how is the Gaming Life on this Phone (with all due respect to @non4 and others, I hope you guys get best out of this phone with the help of our Clever Developing Team.) In between I do play games but on my Laptop ( Acer Aspire V3-771G, intel i7-3610QM 2,3 GHz, 16GB RAM, 1,2 TB HDD, NVIDIA Geforce GT 650M )
Happy Discussion Guys
I'm using CM and change kernel from time to time between the werewolf and iodak.
Update: flashing clockworkmod on ICS gives the notorious security error, for it to work the ROM would have to be repacked to a flashable format like zaiben. And the eternity project kernel just got updated, based on feedback I may have to go back to JB already

After next time you revert to v10a (you seem to switch back and forth a lot ), would you mind packing up and uploading the files in /system/lib? I need them, but really would like to avoid having to flash back to v10a/h at the moment. It seems that LG's ICS builds are currently the only builds with properly working MHL and it is likely it has to do with the included tegra libraries.
I am even more interested in these files for v10h (although the relevant files may be the same), if anyone has easy access to them.

Unlikely. v20 performs as well with iodak, and better with kholks kernel

Hi there @non4 can you please explain some main differences between some of the Roms and Kernels you have tried so far, which is good and in which way like battery life, usage, and which is not so good and needs to be looked at? I ask you because I think you have switched around a lot (sorry if I am wrong) and have tested directly from some of the Great Develeopers around.
Just a small submission of your experience would be enough
Thanks

v10a stock: pure speed, awful battery
v20a stock: Better than v10h, but not as fast as v10a
v20a with iodak kernel: Good battery, close to v10a performance
v20a with kholks kernel: Fastest experience but currently too buggy
CM10.1: Faster in some games, but slower in others, battery OK and some nice features
CM10.1 with werewolf kernel: Solves some of the lags at cost of battery
PACMAN: Not a gamers ROM but fun to play around wit
ZAIBEN: Just like stock without the bloat
That enough??

Have you tried the latest CM10.1 nightly? I just flashed it last night and I had no issues with Deep Sleep, Runs very Smooth and Battery Life is Good. Last night I unpluged it at round about 10:30 PM and today Morning at 9 I just lost 2% of battery so I think its not bad 0.2% overnight.
I guess I will try this:
v20a with iodak kernel: Good battery, close to v10a performance
and I am gonna try
Iodaks Kernel with CM10.1
and lets see what comes out. I have a long weekend to play with because Monday is Holiday here in Germany

When I see some optimization to the I/O speed which will hopefully fix the remaining stutters then I will try, I CBA with moving my stuff to the right folders and restoring all my apps . Try its a good combo! Nice core usage and performs like kholks old 3.1.10 alpha

I have flashed the iodak's kernel with latest CM 10.1 Nightly and I must say it's a great Combination from Developers and Battery life is nice as well. Have a look.

Hey Thanks for this Summary... I was waiting for something like this to decide if I go into CM10.1 or Stay in Stock with a Different Kernel :good:
I think best kernel for now is the stock kernel because the custom aren't ready 100%

I have used nightly and iodak's combination for couple of weeks and I am very happy with the using experience. Battery life is much better than stock and gaming is no laggish. Currently I am using Arararagi's unoffical version so I can still use LG's quicknote and Memo which are only things I want to use from the stock. thanks for Arararagi, make me love CM more. Werewolf kernel also great but I found iodak's better for me. Any way you won't regret to move to CM.
Official jb rom and ioak kernel at the moment. I like lg keyboard and the battery drain is less than cm.

Hi
I updated to to 4.0.3 from Gingerbread. I was initially very happy as it felt like a brand new phone.
But now I am facing 2 problems:
1. Video files are really really choppy and it goes out of sync and eventually hangs the phone.... I am using BS Video Player app for videos. In Gingerbread I was able to play even HD (720p) movies quite easily but now much smaller videos are not playing properly. I have tried other (including the default one) players also
Have you guys faced similar problem? Is there solution you could suggest?
2. Camera won’t start sometime. Sometimes it starts and then it works fine.
Is there any solution for this?
I can kind of answer your first question, for some reason some video codec supports are dropped when going to ICS+ (I had a 720p recording of a science experiment that played wonderfully on GB, but couldn't even play on ICS and above). So your solution is third-party video players (I personally like DicePlayer, but all work well).
As for the camera, that's probably a bug in the rom you're using.

I am using a 3rd party player (BS Player) only, Earlier it played everything fine. Now it's really choppy and tries SW mode after struggling in hardware mode for sometime, then it hangs.... And with default it's always saying that the video can't be played after few minutes.

Some ROMs/kernels use bigger part of the RAM for the apps, on costs of the video recording. As you didn't provide info about which rom and kernel do you use, it would be best to check the source threads of their developers and read what other people write about it

That should be a Kernel issue... Some Kernels use some of the available for use with apps removing some useability from the camera. You should check if your free Ram is bigger than 370 Mb. Usually most Kernels with bigger free memory has that problem...
Thanks guys for replying
I am using ICS_4.0.3_MR1-RC4.2_I9000 from here :

How can bigger free memory create problem? or did you mean the other way around?
Is there any lightweight and fully functional that you guys can suggest for my good old GalaxyS i9000?

Usually developers add some more free memory for general use, removing some from other parts of the Kernel used for example by the camera.
But if you only installed that Rom, usually the Stock Kernels don't have that problem. But depends on what Kernel that Rom uses... I don't know.

I have a Galaxy S+ (GT-i9001) and I use the K^Kernel that has great performance and awesome battery life. But for i9000 I don't know, sorry...
For i9001 there are 3 versions of this Kernel: 360 Mb; 370 Mb & 390 Mb of free memory.
In the 390 Mb version, 720p Video doesn't work also...
