I have a brand new Nook, with CM7.2 installed on the EMMC. This is my second Nook I gave my old one to my mom. Never had a problem like this with the old one. The problem with this one is when it sleeps and I turn it back on, quite often my touch screen won't function. The tablet seems to be working fine otherwise, but I can touch the screen all I want and it will do nothing. Can't even shut off the tablet by holding POWER for a few seconds because I can't click "Shut Down" on that menu. So i have to do a hard reboot. Every time. It's very annoying. Any help from anywhere would be greatly appreciated!
Do you actually see the screen and it won't work or is it just black? If it is just black it sounds like you might be dealing with the "sleep of death" issue.
If you can see the screen but it is just frozen to touch you may want to try a screen calibration app and see if it fixes the issue. Also try cleaning the screen really well.

I don't know if this is the problem, but the new nooks have a new touch screen. In CM9 they had to update the drivers. I don't know if the devs did that on CM7. I have heard of no other complaints from CM7 users though. Don't know of a solution.

I can see it fine just can't do anything. Could you recommend a good Screen Calibration app? Also the device is 2 days old so I think it's not dirty and the screen works fine until it's waking up from sleep.
You can try this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.assid.android.nookrecalibrate&hl=en. Unfortunately it sounds like you may just have a hardware issue. Did you have a chance to use it stock?

No just nuked that locked down OS the second I got it out of the box.
You might want to go back to stock and return the device if it isn't working. I don't usually recommend that since most issues are user created but it sounds like it might be a legitimately defective device in this case.

I agree, sounds like a hardware problem to me. You might try installing CM7 on SD first to see if you have the same issue.
Ok, update: I fixed it. The only thing I did was put on JuiceDefender Ultimate. I set it to turn off my Wifi when sleeping to avoid Sleep Of Death®. I did not see then(and do not see now)how that could have solved my touch-recognition problem. But it seems that it has. Before, this was a constant problem. Nearly anytime I woke up the Nook. Hasn't happened now since yesterday. So perhaps this whole issue was somehow Sleep Of Death® related... I don't know if that's even possible. I will leave that to you smart guys to figure out. But my problem does seem resolved now.

Since a week or so I've had some minor problems with my Diamond.
First after a couple of hours with no use, I saw the led blinking (hey, a new text messag, let's have a look) and the phone wouldn't wake up.
Even pressing the power button for a long time didn't make a difference, I resorted to taking out the battery and restarting it that way.
Everything was back to normal after turning it back on so I didn't really worry about it.
Until this weekend, I tried to wake it up from standby and the screen looked euhm... rather strange
I made a picture of it (please have a look at the attachment). In this state it didn't respond to any button, not even a long press of the power button.
While I was putting back my camera this screen disappeared and the normal touchflo was back, but still the device didn't respond to anything.
So again I resorted to removing the battery and everything has been fine eversince...
But now I'm a bit worried... Anyone have any idea what might be causing this? I must say it's been quite warm in my house the last week (about 27C) so I can imagine that temperature could have an effect...
Thanks for any suggestions.
Oh, I almost forgot..
It's a stock Dutch Diamond.

But I couldn't start the screencap program because well... the screen didn't really work
I have seen too this strange screen in my Diamond a couple of times, but I couldn't tell the reason. I was forced to reset the device as well.
I'm curious about the reason, any ideas?

Has your Diamond been functioning normally after that? Or has it developed more problems (and has perhaps been repaired)?
I'm a bit worried that this is the beginning of major problems...
Hi
I purchased my AT&T 3G compatible Nexus One the first day it went on sale, I just updated to Froyo and I notice that sometimes my screen fails to respond. I have to power on and off my screen for the issue to go away. Some examples are when im typing and I hit and key and it chooses another one or i'm trying to scroll on the menu and even if im picking something from the top the phone highlights the menu icon at the bottom. Are this issue just with my phone? has anybody been able to fix this?, If i call HTC support and they send me and new phone will it have the same issues?
Please guys let me know... this is driving me crazy

the screen on this phone blows... plain and simple... you will just have to get used to it...
do you think i should get rid of it?
Hi,
Don't get rid of the phone. You don't have to reboot, just lock the screen by pressing the power button, then unlock it. I've had it a couple of times but it goes away when I do that.
Also, be aware that it's very sensitive to any part of your hand that might be leaning over the edge of the screen, or hovering over the touch buttons. For example if my finger is hovering over the home button but not touching it, and then I touch somewhere higher up on the screen, it may respond as if I had pressed menu.

So...are you saying we are holding the phone the wrong way? Lol.
the nexus has this issue with the screen. its not a big deal, just lock the screen and unlock it, it fixes the problem. its some kind of mis calibration issue. yeah it sucks, but not the end of the world. only takes 2 seconds to fix it.

Heehee. I guess Android isn't immune to that either. Nor is the EVO or Droid Incredible (not identical problems but they're still there). I think it's inevitable that as we try and jam more and more "magic" into a single unit, things start to crosstalk in unpredictable ways and glitches emerge.
I have to say, the touch-sensitive buttons on Milestone & N1 really throw off people who haven't used them before. If I pull up a picture or video and I'm showing it to someone, inevitably they clutch the phone with a finger on a touch button, and then I have to get them back into the app and explain what not to touch. That's one reason I'd rather have physical buttons such as on the Desire.
I have this touchscreen problem as well, and yes its a big deal for me! I spent $580.00 for this phone. This shouldnt be happening at all! I've tried all sorts of troubleshooting(deleting cache partition, updating to the latest froyo, restoring factory settings, tried without installing 3rd party softwares, etc..) before i finally came to the realization that this is a hardware issue. Ive tried narrowing down to possibly when and how it occurs, but you can't. It just happens when it happens. It's impossible to predict. When this problem occurs, watch closely to where the calibration is off. During the problem, the calibration is only off on the bottom half of the screen, more so close to the bottom right. The top part will work perfectly. You can test this out by swiping left to right or vice versa on the homescreen. This problem will also affect the Pinch-to-Zoom in Browser, and the ability to type correctly using the default keyboard or 3rd party's like Swype. I received an exchange thru HTC a couple days ago, and not only was this exact touchscreen issue prevalent in this unit, but also it suffered from the purplish screen tint. This issue seems to have existed since they first launched this phone, but for some reason there has been no fix for it. It's funny that the EVO received a software fix promptly after the issue was reported by many. Why not the N1?? Because it's hardware, that's why! Feature wise, this phone is by far my best PDA, I mean I really love this phone, but $580.00 is too much for such an issue to exist. I'm hoping that there's only a number of bad batches floating around. I would say, if i receive 4 exchanges, all with the same exact issue, i may look into a class action. I definitely wouldn't want to be stuck with this problem after my year warranty is up!
I haven't had the 'crazy screen' thing since FRF85B, I assumed they'd fixed it.
I haven't had it since upgraded to Froyo too
not hardware problem
I encounter this problem a couple of times and I tested two things: useing trackball I ran touch sens app and tested the touch sensor, it was fine, second I killed all apps using a task man and it fixed the issue. I am on froyo.
Sent by my Nexus one.
I experienced this yesterday for the first time on FRF91 (unrooted Stock build). I couldn't press the "enter" button on stock keyboard. It just kept choosing Delete instead. Lock/unlock screen via power button sorted it.
So the problem is still there in latest build of FroYo (for me anyhow!)
Anyone else?
I've had this problem ever since I got my N1. Sometimes made me want to switch back to my iPhone! Makes it a lot harder for my son (2 1/2) to use the phone too.
Seems reports are mixed to whether froyo fixes it or not. But it gives me hope. I've been using CM5.0.8, holding out for their final release but this gives me a reason to try MCR.
I have upgraded to FroYo FRF91 but still see the same issue.
Sometimes I face with the calibration's flaw for the left bottom corner of the touch screen.
What a shame I have paid 750$ here for this phone. I really love it but this flaw screwed up all the pleasure.

So it is a hardware issue? Maybe we can get htc to replace our phones.

Has anyone ever had any issues with the backlight on the Hero?
Lately, sometimes, when I turn my phone on or something, it's as if there is no screen at all. It stays black, eventhough I know that the OS is running. I've even tried rebooting, taking out the battery, etc... I can tell it's booting normally because it does the little vibrate, and then vibrates once the OS is fully loaded, etc... cept, when this is occuring, I cannot see anyting on the screen. If I tilt it just right, I can JUST BARELY see the outline of a window or something (whatever is up on the screen at that time). Then after dealing with this issue for a couple of minutes, and rebooting a few times, it works itself out.
I'm thinking I'm starting to have some type of hardware failure, but really don't want that, because I'm due to upgrade to the EVO here in about a month and don't want a stupid replacement just so I can go buy a new phone a month later, ya know? Anyway, wondered if anyone has had the issue before and what, if anything, they may know to do to fix it.
Thanks guys!
Yes I get the same issue off and on. I think it has to do with CM6 and the brightness settings. Not sure though.
For some reason when I flash CM6 it sets the Automatically Adjust Backlight setting to be off. I figured it was just the nature of the rom, so everytime I flash a new one, I go and turn it on in Display settings.

No man, I'm saying, even when I first turn on my phone, I dont even see the white HTC screen. It's completely black, but vibrates like normal when I press the power button to initially turn it on. It's fukd I'm pretty sure. I can't see a thing on it, not even in recovery. It's completely black, but vibrates at the correct times it should vibrate (when I first press power button to turn on, when the rom initially boots up, etc...)
I'm thinking my hero is dead....
I only had a little less than a month to go before I could get an EVO too.... damn phone.

Nope, I didn't do anything to it... unfortunately, I'm stuck with CM6 installed on it, because I can't see it to be able to switch back to the stock ruu... LoL
so I hope they don't notice and then say, well, too bad, u'r screwed because u rooted u'r phone. But no, my phone is still immaculate except the 'End' key is chipping off (the paint). That's about it
I'm hoping maybe they'll let me just upgrade to the EVO since I'm due in about a month anyway. I doubt it, but even if they give me a replacement (a new one) then I'd be okay with that.
Welp, they ended up replacing my phone with a replacement (refurbed) Hero... I pretty sure this one is 99% new though, not a single problem aesthetically and it seems to be running froyo quite smoothly. It basically feels like a brand new phone (which according to Sprint Reps, there's an 80% chance of getting a new replacement and 20% chance of getting a used replacement). I'm thinking I'm in the 80% range
Very happy thus far... just my touch screen is a little quirky right now b/c I installed a clear screen protector and believe some of the moisture is interfering with touches... which has been getting better as the hours go on. So that's' good!
Thanks guys on the info.... It's just fine for getting me through until Sept. 15th so I can upgrade meself on the EVO!!!!
We shall see if it holds up until then
Take ya'lls and thanks for all the replies
You should get the epic instead. Lol

Hey guys i just bought a nook color and had it shipped to my country but i think i am already regretting it now.
The touch screen starts behaving very weird randomly at any times, it automatically registers touches and keyboard automatically typing own it own, and what ever i touch just goes straight to hell and this continues as long a i don't lock and unlock it again.
Even when i am reading it automatically starts zooming.
I was think about rooting it and installing a custom Rom, will that fix the problem? because giving it back to B&N is not an option for me.
Also i don't have screen guard, and the screen is always smudged with fingerprints, can that trigger this sort of behavior?
I'm using mine in Australia and have a similar problem but only when using the supplied USB cable to charge it.
I've heard stories about faulty USB cables which might be the case as I don't have this problem when I use the cable for my desire. The problem with this is that the cable isn't long enough for practical use and the supplied cable apparently has extra pins which would explain why it still discharges (although slower) when using my desire micro USB cable.
For now I'm limited to only using my nook without the cable plugged in but I'm thinking about finding another cable as sending it back to B&N and then paying to ship it back here isn't really a viable option.
Let me know if you figure something out though.
Well the one with usb cable is a known issue and u can still use it otherwise, mine just happens randomly at any time, its almost unusable.
Does installing a custom rom help?
It wouldn't hurt to try. I know some kernals make changes to the touchscreen sensitivity but I don't know whether that would apply to your problem or not. A nook is very easy to un-root anyways so as far as I know (and don't quote me on this), you should be able to return it if you absolutely have to.
Don't give up though. I'm loving mine and for the price it's an awesome little accessory when it works.
Hi,
Make sure to clean the touch screen - last night I had a different looking
smudge on my screen that was causing huge problems - as soon as I cleaned
it off, back to normal. Are you in a humid location? Condensation will cause
problems too.
Also you may want to search for 'calibrate' in the forums, there is a way to
recalibrate the touchscreen sensitivity, I believe that this is mostly for
low sensitivity at the corners though.
Here are two links I found:

My touch screen acts up as well. I turn the screen off for a couple minutes to "reset" it. It will work OK for a little, then it goes back to wonky.
Hey guys i finally found a solution to this problem, well my touch screen is behaving normally when its not not connected to the power cable. I hope thats a solution good enough for you.
Just go to
h**p://nookdevs.com/Recalibrate_the_NookColor_touch_screen
I tried all the custom roms but that didn't help very much, so i tried this on CM7
and so far my screen is giving totally normal tests results when not plugged in and lets hope that it stays that way.
My daughter had a similar wonky-screen problem when she plugged in a particular set of portable music player speakers. Not another pair she has, just that one.
And I was able to replicate it on my nook. It wasn't specific to her nook.
okay, it seems that my excitement didn't last that long but
After a lot of testing, it turned out that the only problems was my oily or moist fingers.
so i got a screen guard and tested it for more than two hours and i haven't had any problems yet. So even if i do see that happening again, once in two hours is not that bad.

Hi guys,
i am a happy new owner of a 8.9tab but noticed something strange latly. Every 5 or so unlocks, seems random?, the touchscreen responds strange.
I can not drag stuf it registeres it as single touches and keeps doing stuff even if im not touching it for a while. this can take long and seems to stay like that. however when i press the power button and unlock again all seems fine.
It does not seem to be a hardware problem, anyone experiences also such thing?
Thx for assistance.
I was on my 8.9 for about four hours last night and I did not have an occurrence as you described. But if this persist, maybe you should exchange it.

I flashed the Overcome 2.1.1 ROM this morning and since then it has behaved perfectly. One thing that I have noticed is that the touches are not as sensitive as before it used to be that it was so sensitive that the screen reacts to input when I have barely touches the surface. Now, it actually behaves like my 10.1 so instead of acting like it predicting where my fingers are going to land, it actually waits for them to touch the surface.
Update: I spoke too soon. The problem came back.
