[Q] How to downgrade from official ICS to GB safely - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys
Since warnings about N7000XXLPY ICS kernel risks of hardbrick galaxy note i suppose that's a lot of people like me who installed last ICS 4.0.3 want to go back to GB but are affraid to do it to avoid geting theire Note dead.
I asked the question but no answer i just found this video explaining how to do it ,The problem is that it is a downgrade from an UNOFICIAL ICS rom to GB.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr3DDEh8vyc&feature=plcp
STEPS : 1- go to recovery mode ( even it's not recommended to do anything with cwm with lpy kernel )
2- flash abyss kernel 4.2 final (browse zip )
3- reboot recovery
4- Wipe all- reset factory
5- always in cwm, browse GB rom and flash it
6- Reboot system
My question is : can we use the same way to go back to gb from official stock ics 4.0.3 SAFELY ? We have not many times to do it, may be we have one chance to do it right or we get the galaxy note bricked so plz any help will be appreciated .
Thanks

I have restored stock GB from stock German ICS twice with PC Odin. I had flashed the ICS ROM through mobile odin over a rooted stock GB ROM. I just flashed the ROM and NOT the LPY kernel. Had neither the root nor CWM.
I simply used PC Odin to downgrade without no problems.

I did it the long way just to be safe. I first flashed a custom GB Rom. Then i flashed the stock rom via PC Odin. Steps:
1. Download any custom GB Rom and keep it in your external sd card
2. Download and Flash AbyssNoteKernel 4.2
3. Reload recovery - go into the recovery of Abyss4.2
4. Wipe the damn thing
5. Flash your custom GB
6. Boot and let ROM settle.
7. Flash any stock ROM via PC Odin
will give it a try..TQVM!

[Q] galaxy note bricked after installing Rocket ICS v3

hi , I had installed the ICS Stock Germany, and this morning I went to install the Rocket Rom ICS v3 but my note is not restarted more, then i flash the ICS Stock whith Odin Pc, since then my note is not restarted more, gets stuck on the screen of samsung , I have done several downgrades and upgrade ins roms Stock and Custom,it comes in so Download mode and Recovery, but when I go to a Full Wipe it crashes and restarts, please help me
Have you tried downgrading to a stock GB ROM with Odin and doing a wipe in recovery while on GB rom ?
Dont do data wipr on stock rooted roms
Hey , did you do full wipe on ICS stock LPY ( German release ) Rom ?????? Hope you have not . Haven't you read that most of the stock ICS roms have emmc cap bug ?? it will super brick your phone ! . Download stock Gingerbread KL3 firmware and flash it using PC Odin . But before that, flash the pit file based on whether your phone is 32 GB or 16 GB , and then flash KL3 . You might be doing good after this . If not and if you have done data wipe on LPY then the only way to fix this ( till now !) is to edit data partitions of your phone using adb tools found with android sdk , or get your motherboard replaced or whatever the Samsung Service Centre asks you to do . Good luck with the first step ! Hope that you ll be successful at first step
If you need any help feel free to ask , will help as much as possible.
I have included 16GB pit file , flash it through PDA slot in PC odin
I tried

Check Rocket Rom or Dr Ketan threads - best to flashback to Abyss 3.9 or 4.2 then reboot into recovery and factory reset before flashing RR3 or later. I've done this twice and it worked both times.
damn now im chickening out guys i need to know something...im on cm9 so i assume its safe to flash ics stock directly since its a safe kernel?now how do i go on about it?enter cwm mode wipe everything, download latest ICS flash with pc odin then root it?
also how do i recover my backed up data with TB?since i dont have an external SD yet
I am not sure what do u mean by samsung screen...is it the boot animation or the samsung galaxy note screen GT N7000 screen??? I flashed the criskelo's rom and I got stuck in boot animation....I was able to go to cwm recovery and download mode..but I was not able to flash anything via cwm...not even abyss kernel....I never used download mode on note yet...so I was trying to fix it without using pc....gladly I had an old version of franco kernel....which I was able to flash and then I rebooted into recovery and flashed abyss kernel...and back to checkrom...and now on aokp....

Question about EXACTLY process to flash roms

First of all, HI guys and sorry for my irregular english.
I read since a long time XDA Forums to prepare me in flash and root methods for my galaxy note.
At now, i'm using this stock rom:
[ICS][4.0.3][Stock][OpenGermany]N7000XXLPY_N7000OXALPY_N7000XXLPT_HOME.tar.md5
+
CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LPY-v5.6-CWM5.tar + SuperSU
but i came from a stock rom: N7000UBKK2 with default kernel KK1 from Samsung and Movistar. and i have only a nandroid backup of my default Samsung/Movistar rom.
I have another gingerbread samsung stock rom, for emergency cases:
N7000UBKK8_N7000WEKK1_N7000PETKK1_HOME.tar.md5
But my point is:
I wish test some roms, before to decide which one use in dual boot system:
- Stock 4.0.4 (LRG or you suggest me LRK or another more recent ?)
- AOKP
- Criskelo
- Chrack
- Paranoid
- Cyanogen 9
And i have ready to use: Odin 1.87, Odin Mobile, SuperSU (if is necesary), Abyss 4.2 (CW/Red) for recovery, Abyss 4.2 CW for odin and CF-Root for LRG (if is necesary i can find one for LRK or another recent)
But i'm confused about how exactly do that. Yes i know there are many... MANY topics about that but, I only need a bit of help guys to understand the exactly process and avoid EMMC BUG...
If i understant correctly, i must follow this method, please correct me if i'm grong:
01 - Check if i'm root and settings are in depuration + unkown sources
02 - Because i'm using an ICS Kernel i need first downgrade to Abyss for continue
03 - Reboot in Recovery and flash Abyss4.2 CW/Red, after "reboot recovery" and make wipes
Which one should i use for this CW or Red Version?
...
But after this i have problems, because i have ever red: before flash a custom rom you need a same base. Then ok i think for use for example CM9, or Paranoid, or Criskelo, I need a 4.0.4 rom then i have a:
[ICS][4.0.4][Stock][OpenGermany]N7000XXLRG_N7000DBTLRG_N7000XXLRB_HOME.tar.md5
Ready to flash but...
If a this moment following the previous steps, i'm in recovery of Abyss CW/Red:
Should i reboot using this Abyss kernel in download mode to flash a stock LRG ?
...
Or in another reality, is not needed flash Abyss to flash a stock rom using Odin ?
I wish first test the Stock 4.0.4 before any other custom to make a base point of comparison
...
And after, using 4.0.4 LRG + CF-Root, is safe use install from zip file in recovery to flash any other rom like CM9 for example ? or i need use abyss recovery (before flash it using CR-Root recovery) to flash any other rom (ICS) ?
Again i hope you can help me with these questions, and really sorry is the text is so long but i prefeer to know rightly how to procced before brick my phone, because i still waiting for a JIG (you know, for emergency...)
Tnks to all.
First of All You need to know that there is no need for the same base to flash the ROM.
Second thing You have to use Abyss Redpill 4.2 Original Logo Recovery(It uses GB Kernel) If you are not going to downgrade to GB and want to flash on top of your current ROM
Third Whenever you want to flash CM9/AOKP/AOSP first downgrade to GB(Pre rooted Rom) OR GB then Root it and then flash the rom by going it to CWM recovery.
Fourth thing is Never flash Abyss using PC Odin.
Proper Way to Flash CM9/AOSP/AOKP for a clean install (You will lose data)
Download a prerooted GB Rom from here ===> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Reboot your phone is Download Mode. (Vol Down+Home+Power)
Open Pc Odin on your Pc/Laptop
Connect your phone to PC via USB Cable
A Small Box in Left Upper turns Yellow. It means your phone is recognized by Odin
Now Select GB File under PDA Tab (Do not change any settings)
Start Flash
YOU WILL HAVE A GB ROM ON YOUR PHONE WITH ROOT
Now Go to Recovery
Install Zip from SD Card
Flash Rom
Flash Gapps
Do All 3 Wipes (Cache/Dalvik/Data)
Reboot System.
you might wanna root first and backup efs before jumping to any rom that is different csc then you previous one.

Tnks to all, at now i'm testing some roms and kernels, looking for a "perfect" mate for my paranoid android (tableted rom), and in my tests i still looking for a decent kernel because (may this is my imagination but...) CF-Root LRG kernel in LRK Rom (Chrack's Rom) consume excessively batery but i will test in an ordinary day because may is not problem from rom, this should be a problem from kernel...
I read before: SpeedMod kernel was developed just for this situation: low batery comsumption + high perfomance...

[Q] i'm going to flash XXLSA

Hi everyone, I don't have my Galaxy Note since 2 weeks. I've left my phone at Samsung Warranty because, like some of Note users, i had the USB port broken, so in this week i'm going to have a new replacement Note probably with GingerBread. I will flash Jelly Bean when i get it, but i dont know if with these steps will work (without bricks):
Assuming that i'm coming from Ginger 2.3.6
1: Download Samsung Drivers (kies) and ODIN 3 3.0.4
2: Install ICS XXLRQ with ODIN
3: Flash CF-Root with ODIN too.
4: Flash Philz Kernel XXLRQ with the CWM of Cf Root
(this is THE question: Flashing Philz kernel in Cf-Root, will make my phone safe for wiping? or i need some other thing?)
5: Wipe Data, Cache, Dalvik.
6: Format Preload and System
7: Reboot Recovery
8: Flash XXLSA/LS7 (because XXLSA seems to be very buggy and a lot of people says the phone reboots randomly and stucl at Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000)
Is there any risk if i do these steps?
Thanks! Sorry my bad english!
Greetings from Argentina!!
no need for step 3
just flash philz lrq in stock recovery
rest should be ok and safe
nonono, will loose warrantee, but for the lovebof your note
root first, efs backup on and off the phone. Then the rest.

actually you can flash jellybean directly over gingerbread. you don't have to flash ICS
I flashed jb leak directly over my rooted gingerbread

No need to even root. Download from sammobile.com and install it via Odin.
By the time that you got your phone back, many of us will be using LSC instead of LSA. But I guess the steps will remain the same.

After flash using Odin, the Stock Jelly Bean will still have the brick bug? We still need to flash Philz safe kernel after upgraded to leaked Jelly Bean rom.
Correct me if wrong.
Yes....flash philz 3.71 kernel for XXLSA

I understand you might be a little shaky to flash JB over GB esp. with a new note at hand
It is safe to wipe using GB kernels, so for starters, DO NOT flash ICS or ICS kernels
1- you need to root your phone first, try dr.ketan thread for safe rooting on GB
2- download a flashable ZIP ROM for JB XXLSA e.g. Ultimate v5 or SweetROM v2.5 (I personally recommend sweetROM, great work by not-i)
3- do a full wipe (factory, cache and dalvick cache) - you might want to do it three times in a row just in case so that you won't get a bootloop
4- Format System & preload
4- flash the new ROM and you got XXLSA
I am not quite sure about the safety of jelly bean kernels, I still revert to abyss if I want to flash a ROM or do a wipe.. but that's just me
Good luck with your brand new Note

Ok, so I'm decided: I'm going to flash XXLSA or XXLS7 (Because i have the 2 roms) via Ginger Bread. I will root my phone with AbbysNote like the first time (a lot of months ago) and then after wipes and formats i will flash JB. I Cant wait to have my new note in my hands, and yes, i'm very shaky because i will Root and flash everything at one time and too fast, (i detest GingerBread since i know the existence of Jelly Bean)...
Thanks everbody for the help!
PD: (May be in two weeks i will have my brand new Note...)
