[BOOT LOOP] Flashed LPY From Stock GB - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys
I seem to be stuck in a bootloop.
I tried flashing the latest GERMAN ICS (LPY) usind Dr.Ketans Guide. I Used Mobile ODIN PRO.
What seems to happen now, is when I turn on the phone it loops from the Samsung Splash Screen to a short burst of mobile odin/chain fire (Blue Android in background)
I'm not sure how to proceed, since my home button doesnot work too..
Any help would be appreciated
PS: I was rooted running STOCK gingerbread.

you're lucky. but i wondered why that happened to your note. i also flashed lpy and cf-root kernel from GB using mobile odin pro but it was successful. yesterday i did a full wipe and format the internal storage and now my note is super smooth and the battery lasts more than before (GB).

You can do a full wipe but only after flashing Abyss kernel under CWM.

He didn't tell anyone to wipe on an affected kernel. He only said he did it himself.

What are you using to flash the roms? CWM, mobile odin, PC Odin or Kies?

Ok I would suggest to try PC Odin to flash the Rom.
And maybe just STAY away from LPY at the moment, unless its absolutly necessary. I flashed my note with LPY and regret it since I have NO root, and am afraid to copy any large files to the storage.. Due to the kernal issues.
If you do decide to flash LPY make sure its through PC Odin and you dont do a wipe.
Can you get your Note into download mode?

This is how i did it:
Flashed LPY with odin PC (untick auto reboot)
Flashed CF-root with PC odin (untick auto reboot)
Booted into CWM and flashed franco r3 that i had on my sdcard
Reboot phone again in CWM on franco's kernel and then wipe/factory reset.
Running LPY like a boss!

Yes CF-root kernel is affected, but i think its no problem to flash franco with it because you wont touch the factory reset/wipe.
I'm not 100% sure if flashing a kernel on cf-root kernel uses the MMC_CAP_ERASE command.

[Q] How do I safely revert to GB from ICS without bricking

Hi there,
The recent rash of hard bricks and fried eMMC chips experienced in ICS roms based on leaked ICS binaries has got me spooked. I want to revert to Gingerbread in a safe way.
Current rom setup is: LP5 base, LP5 kernel, LP6 baseband and imilka's CM9 v3.
Current options at my disposal:
Nandroid backup Gingerbread 2.3.6 DarkyROM v3.3 accessible through CWM
Mobile Odin, for flashing stock .tar's
Other? Open to suggestions
Various users have reported hard bricks after invoking the full wipe command in CWM on leaked binary kernels. I believe my options displayed above are fairly safe but can someone confirm this, has anyone succesfully reverted to GB after flashing a .tar in Odin or using a nandroid backup?
Many thanks,
mcmaddcatt

1. Download any custom GB Rom (Darky, Cassie, whatever)
2. Flash Abyss 4.2
3. Reload recovery
4. Do your wipes
5. Flash your custom GB
The safe way would be to flash a stock ROM with PC Odin, or flash a safe kernel with PC Odin and do your flashing with that. The methods outlined above don't sound very safe to me, but maybe I'm wrong.

I thought the problem was flashing anything with the leaked repack ICS kernels was where the risk of frying your emmc came from, so wouldn't flashing abysskernel from an ICS recovery carry that same risk, hence the recommendations to flash a GB ROM via PC Odin?
Or have I missed a step somewhere ...

[Q] LPY ICS downgrade to GB. Non wipe or full wipe?

So I am one of the "brave" souls who flashed ICS LPY via Mobile odin from Stock GB prerooted ROM. I flashed it together with cf 5.3 kernel. Its been 10 days now and i haven't had any problems but i was lucky that i haven't used CWR nor factory restore. So after reading all the warnings that LPY has a bug on eMMC i want to safely go back to Gingerbread.
Ive searched the forum and found a few methods (Mobile ODIN, PC ODIN, CWR) but i want to make sure that i don't get my device bricked (have no warranty). So my question is Should i choose Full Wipe or a non wipe option while getting back to GB? Or maybe wait a little longer and just try not to stress the I/O till the issue gets resolved?

Full wipe everything just to have a clean gb rom to use afterwards. You don't want to have remains of other roms in there! Just to be sure!

you can use ODIN to flash stock GB ROM! but there are some reports that even that can cause superbrick! read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653582
you can read this thread how to do it using abyssnote kernel:

Download pre rooted rom and flash thru pc odin. I came back to gb litening rom twice from lpy and alba 2.1.
This is the way how I downgraded to gb from ics succesfully. It doesn't mean is 100% no risk at all.
Good luck.

and after gb restored , full wipe? Or the rom itself full wipe?

Sorry no ideal. But based to the info and the detail you given. The emmc damaged should not exists at your devices. Since you never use the cf-lpy cwm. I'm not the pro..but my opinion could be the common answer.

If you feel panic with the bricked problem might appear while flashing back to gb. Please don't try ..it was horrible...your heartbeat sure will keep increase fast and faster...believe me..I hv tried twice....
If you feel comfort with the current ics and without any major bug, just keep using it and enjoy while the dev looking for the solution and waiting for kernel sources code realease.
Just keep in mind DUN USE THE CWM.
OR YOU CAN USE TITANIUM BACKUP AND FREEZE THE CWM FOR ANY ACCIDENTALY WRONG PRESS.

Help please. This is the history of my flashing btw...
I had a rooted Gingerbread with CF root kernel KKA. When ICS came out i rushed and Flashed a cf root lpy zimage (kernel only) via Recovery ( i know it was stupid.. ) So i got stuck and i could only come up to CWM. I used the CWM to BACK UP MY DATA (this was before i even flashed the ICS rom). From there i used PC odin to flash kka gingerbread rom. Flashed it without problem. Then i flashed ICS LPY rom together with LPY kernel via Mobile Odin and i clicked wipe data. Everything went well. I haven't used CWM. Now i am affraid that i could have bad EMMC. Should i stay on ICS or should i flash stock GB rom again?

I had answered your question thru email. Stick with your current ICS rom will be the best option and choices. Since I do believe no one at the forum able to give you 100% accurately exactly what happen with your emmc. Just enjoy your ics.
Please don't simply flash any gb rooted kernel so that able use the cwm again and go back to gb. Please read the instruction carefully.
PERSONNAL OPINION: I'm always prefer flash stock or pre rooted gb rom thru pc odin beside flash axxx4.2kernel to perform full wipe.
Good luck bro..

Well according to the devs here you should be good. But noone can guarantee you are 100%. I decided to wait till the issue gets resolved even though i haven't used recovery at all. I am taking my chances on ICS. But again staying on ICS isn't safe either I am quoting CHainfire here..

It's all possible. Either way, what I wan't to make absolutely clear again:
If the problem is present in CF-Root LPY (and it's not a "leftover" problem from previous ROM - this is possibly the case), then it's also present in stock LPY. This means you *can* randomly brick your phone even if fully booted into Android, under heavy I/O load.
(on the Note there normal and recovery kernels are the same, and CWM is just a userspace program, nothing special(!) - so if the problem can happen in CWM, it can happen in Android)"
So whichever choice you make... good luck.

Yup, is true. Beside you need to stay away from cwm, you should be aware when doing the large file transfer.
Stick with Lpy, do not touch cwm at all, try to avoid do any large files transfer.
Relax bro...u should be fine...just follow what the instruction given by the dev. Since no one really know exactly what happen.

Now, if you had a nandroid backup of a GB ROM, and then flashed CM9, then yes you could restore the GB ROM from your nandroid backup.
Last question, if I do the flash to GB from mobile Odin and the GB rom isn't rooted, pure stock. Will I exposed myself to any problem or it's safer to do the flash with Odin PC ?

Lol make sure stock is for your csc region.
Most stock are nonwipe, and so you will have to do factory reset and wipe caches from restore.
Cleanest is go to recovery, and factory reset, and wipe cache, and dalvik cache, and then in mounts format data and system. After this head into download mode and pc Odin your rom on it. But if you get a little perform a repartitions to when flashing. You will lose data this way.. All at your own risk
edit: do cleanest from gb or a safe kernel only.

see, if your phone was bought unlocked from Malaysia then you can flash any Malaysia stock rom using odin, no matter what rom/BB you are currently on (stock or custom) but I always suggest flashing stock GB firmwares as you can wipe them in stock recovery if required immediately after flashing through odin.
So now, if your phone was bought in Malaysia then download any of the 2 Malaysia GB firmware from post #2 in the link I gave you and flash using odin or mobile odin as per the instructions given in that thread.
tq

If you are on cm rom then flash gb first. If on stock gb then wipe and flash stock ics using odin.
If you choose to flash ics over cm and if it stuck in bootloop then you wont be able to wipe in recovery because of emmc bug, so gb is best.
Stock GB rom from your region will most probably allow you to update to ics using kies, or else you can flash via odin later.

Bricked..

Hi,
I installed Jellybeer rom, and then the hydracore kernel..
Then i got the samsung note screen but nothing else..
I then followed another tut to revive it..
I flashed an odin rom (GB) but now it bootloops..
Anny suggestions?
yes.. boot into recovery and do a data factory reset and then restart

That kinda solved the problem ..
Thx!
Now i'm flashing a pre rooted GB rom with odin..
Then just go in CMW & flash an ICS rom?
Or first flash a safe kernel?
Gb has safe kernel, so get rooted, then use mobile odin to flash ics retaining root, then you'll need to flash a safe kernel once on ics such as hydracore or philz

You didn't get bricked at all, you just flashed an incompatible kernel on JellyBeer Rom. HC uses different Mali from Jelly.
All you had to do at that point was to reflash JellyBeer and reboot, and all would be well.

[Q] Note Stock restore

Hello, I'm currently using a G Note on [email protected] ICS, Build Number IMM76D.XXLRK.
I'm thinking about updating to the JB leak for The G Note but im worried about bricking my phone can anyone tell me what the chance of it bricking is? and how id go about changing my firmware from this rom?
Thankyou.
Flash Philz kernel.
Full wipe and flash whichever ROM you want.....
Also, use search as this question has been asked many times in the past
If you have speedmod kernel the chance of bricking its 0... And if you want the ODIN official JB leak just go Odin mode power+home+volume down then flash.. You don't need to wipe going from Ics to JB TW

So its just a case of finding the JB leak i want then, putting it on SD card and flashing using mobile ODIN?

No, you should allways follow the installation instructions in the specific thread for the JB Custom Rom you want.
If you choose the XXLSA leak from sammobile.com (that was the base leak for all following XXLSA/C Custom Roms) then you can use Mobile Odin - I did this many times without problems.
OK thankyou

Go here and download the version you want
http://live.samsung-updates.com/index.php?device=GT-N7000
Second download odin from here or you can even use this stock rooted version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2035127
I went for straight stock then rooted after but everyone has thier own ideas!
Ok thankyou I already have ODIN on my phone. Is it safer too use the PC Odin?

Mobile odin and pc odin is similar.
The only different from what I know is.... with mobile odin you can keep ur root, and flash custom kernel.
Whereby with pc odin, all will be brand new. No root, stock kernel.
If ur device is rooted alrd, and u have cwm recovery installed, why don't u choose custom rom, and just flash it from cwm recovery?
Easier, fast, no headache.
Custom rom has some tweaks that might improve performance.
But choice is urs. Good luck mate.

I prefer Mobile odin if already rooted as this way we can change the kernel at the time of flash to be safe
