SGA vs Xperia - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What are your thoughts when comparing our ace with various mid-range Xperia phones? Mainly the Xperia Pro, Xperia Neo, Xperia Ray and the live with walkman.

Of course Xperia are better!
Already set on my mind, get a Xperia smartphone next time...
Sent from my WAREZ impulses.

its not fair comparing them, because ace uses armv6 while those xperias got armv7.
when its first announce ace was better choice among low-mid end device at that time.
but now not anymore after a year and a half, its getting old.
and answering your question, yes those xperias definitely better than ace.

Ok then thanks for your replies. Imo the difference in the processors isn't an unfair variable in the comparison but rather a point to compare Plus Xperias come with a rocking UI compared to TW so yeah aiming for Xperia once I get rid of my ace

My brothers got the xperia ray and the only bad thing is the screen seems really thin.
The xperia's will be better because there newer. In 1 year's time there will phones better than them (in that price range )

ya xperias are good in specifications ... but few things i miss from my ace :
i feel its touchscreen is better than mini/pro , lww.....
its camera is rocking ... way bettter than xperia... ( except for video ofcourse)....
and they say its 720p but quality is not really 720p......

720p is a video resolution, it can has the worst quality ever, but still is 720p (720p = 720 rows, generally is a 1280x720 resolution; p stands for progressive scan)

its common misconception of all that bigger resolution=better.
what does matter and most important is camera sensor.
u can have 18mp but wilh crappy sensor it will just produce crappy quality.
my ace 5mp and live with walkman 5mp still looks stupid compared to my previous nokia n78 3.15mp with carl zeiss optics.

for video isn't a sensor issues, mid-range phones barely have enought cpu/gpu power to decode an avc video, encode ones requires almost three times more resources (an 1hr 1080p is played realtime with an [email protected], it takes 2 days to encode it), so quality is affected by the encoder limited and marked by speed/resource.
for photo, ace has one of the best cameras, in comparison to many Nokia, and, imho, superior even to the blazoned chambers of ipad 3 and iphone 4 too (too many noise and fake details even compared to 5D mark II)

Really dude? We're on XDA, anyone here wouldnt care less about the stock interface when buying a phone, it's customizable!

Xxx
I thing samsung is better ,because xperia has bad software

I think that every kind of customization if done bad makes phones slow and sometimes crap (look at how Touchwiz affect performance on the Galaxy S4). Touchwiz is insanely slow without being nothin special. Best optimized and functional interface on Android is Sense. About Xperia rom is like a Touchwiz theme with some changes and A LOT more bloatware and junk than Samsung's one (Xperia U is slower than Galaxy Ace because of the so many useless app running in background made by Sony). That's my opinion.

Again an old thread revived

[Q] Milestone camera quality after oferclocking

Hello Droid/Milestone owners!! I'm going to change my mobile. I red something about this device and it looks interesting due to ability to overclock CPU. I've also seen sample photos from Milestone and they are rather good, not perfect. And here is my question > is there any solution to improve the quality of pictures taken by Milestone ? Does overclocking do that? Maybe changing ROM does something ? And what about battery usage avter Overclock? Until , I have been using HTC Legend and it has quality of camera I desire Any sugestions?
the camera on the milestone/droid produces crap pictures. its been slammed in pretty much every review. and no, overclocking doesn't solve it.
Agree, but everyone Android phone have "****ty" camera, i heard the only one is kindìa good is the Sony Ericcson devices.

Samsung galaxy nexus or Samsung galaxy s2

I know this is the samsung galaxy s2 section. But if you were offered a samsung galaxy nexus for your samsung galaxy s2 would you make the switch?
If no please explain
If yes please explain
Thanks
You will get bigger display and better updates. Depends on how long you got your s2, if you feel bored its not bad switch. Personally i would switch it.
Have a nice day!

Thanks for your input. But not having 8mega pixel, downgrade video quality, not having a expansion memory slot still tempting to switch?
I wouldn't switch... Like having an expansion card. Only positive of nexus over s2 is longer and faster updates of roms.

Personally, i like the design and i feel 32GB is enough memory. For the camera, you are right. Its just up to you, do you take pictures and videos often or no? You know the best for you here.
Obviously nexus have style, bigger display and higher pixel density, it's the google way.
But if you take in to consideration that:
- the usable screen it's almost the same becouse of the navigation bar in nexus case
- SGS2 has the better screen even at such lower res becouse Nexus use PenTile Matrix technology which it's a major downgrade (some colors have to be approximated by using adjacent pixels, and can cause colors that don’t read as true)
- you get 5MP insted of 8MP and you also pay more
- in SGS2 case you will get more fps in games and in User Interface becouse nexus gpu will have to process more information (720 x 1280 vs 480 x 800 in same amount of time; bouth gpu are similar at the same resolution), you must conclude that nexus looks nice and I9100 performe better.
For me performance, user experiece and image quality it's everything so I would take i9100.

Very good statement, i have to agree with alot of that. however, you forgot to mention Samsung nexus NFC chip, panoramic camera, face unlock and android beam. They are new features that makes me love my galaxy nexus, not to mention if your into a curve design, its pretty sleek.
for me it was really tough, i went with the nexus although, i wish had a better camera, but 5 mega pixel on nexus is surprisingly not that bad, of course the galaxy s2 camera is better.

I don't have an s2 to compare GPS signal
I have to agree with you, if you are a person who love stylish things Nexus it's a good looking beast, in daily use you would not notice a big diffrence in performance (I didn't know that you had already bought nexus)

Z Or Honami?

hey all ^_^
i was about 2 buy Xperia z when i heard that Sony will release smart phone which called honami with 20MP camera and xenon flash and 2700m battery and 5 inch display with snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.3GH
as i read it will be launched in japan in july and the universal version will be in august or september
Is that true?shall i wait 4 it?or thats just fake news?
Thanks in advance
Dude, 20MP is not possible for 2013! they made step from 8MP - 13MP after 2 or 3 years, no one will move forward to such a high resolution in so small time. Think twice...

If Nokia can bring out a 40+ mp phone why can't Sony bring out a 20mp phone? In the end the mp doesn't mean that much.

well sounds like the Note II is good for u then...battery huge and the camera same as S3, the processor is a marketing gimmick, duo core S4 pro processor can run pretty much everything and anything.
P.S I got the 7000mah battery for my S3 and it last me 2 day with heavy usage and no wifi but if you have your heart set on that phone then by all mean, i'm just giving you the option that is already available.
On the end you guys will say I was correct . Android phones, long time won't see 20MP. Nokia made it in 2012, in that time was really popular 8MP on Android, am I right? XS was exception with 12mp. None of the high phones was better in mp.
Dsteppa, I agree, mps doesn't mean nothing .
P.S.: The point is, Xperia Z forums are the only one, who talks more about other phones than XZ. I never saw something like that for example in DHD forums. But nvm, I will ignore this kind of topics in future

Depends on what you are using MP's for, creates damn good crops of photos due to the lack of zooming capability
The key here with the Honami is having a decent and most likely faster lens to benefit from more MP's
Sony need to proove themselves first by fixing the XZ photo quality, less noise suppression. Otherwise I am sure too many people will be put off.

Nicely put, and right on the money.
And as I said you can use any part of that photo to make a fantastic crop due to lack of zoom, and still be much better image quality than any phone out there.

Really, that has got to be one of the most strange justifications I have heard. Just buy a Xenon flash light, Point and shoot, even better a point and shoot with a hotshoe, or a DSLR.
At the end of the day this is a Phone, and a bonus of the camera
You guys seem to be missing the point
In case of Honami it's not MP count but camera sensor size. It has a bigger sized camera sensor than Nokia N8 and close to Pureview808 size. That is 3 times bigger sensor than Xperia Z

He is not real clear on what he want, first he say he want a better phone with a list of specific like camera, processor and etc. then he change his mind and say he wanted better flash and battery, which i offer him the choice of Samsung Note II, it offer all those things except for processor, which is negligent for a phone. I'm afraid he either a little confuse or just another Sony employee trying to advertise upcoming phone which I suspect is most of the user in this thread.
More megapixels = more noise = more processing = lesser details. The z is better for me.

Simply put: go for Z. You can wait few months for Honami and don't even like it once it's out. Get XZ, and then when Honami gets out, you can sell XZ and get it instead if you'll think it's worth the change.
There will always be a next phone.

Stats wise this looks like a bang for the buck. I am considering buying this phone. I wanted to know whether the Chipset this phone has will continue to get support. Also wanted to know whether this phone can play Full HD videos. Other than that can this phone play HD Games? Is there any hope that this phone will get further version upgrades? Is it possible to install JellyBean oficially without having to root?

There is a rumor that it will get 4.2, and stops there. We have official JB, no need to root. There is some lag on full HD, but do you need full HD on 4" screen really? I am not game player, about games you will need to wait for somebody else to answer you.

This phone is pretty good, but not good enough if compared with the more recent ones.. I mean if you want more Battery Life, Gaming Performance and more (future) Official updates or Dev support then you can opt for better, more popular Mid-Range phones (according to your budget)...
But still this phone is pretty good, better than Galaxy R and closely related to the all famous S2!
And yes two more things:
- I never tried playing 1080p videos, so I don't know whether it will work or not.. but I have a lot of 720p videos (and movies) - and they all have lag free playback on the stock video player... The only 720p video that lags for me is the default Samsung Sample Video :silly:
- You can play most of the games on this phones, but most high end games or too resource demanding 3D games won't play well on Highest settings...
I was an iPhone user before and this is my first Android phone.. but yeah this is still a pretty good phone, but there are better phones (maybe at same cost)..
Take a look at this thread too.. I gave my review on S3 Mini vs SGSA on that thread...

Some of those points are really foolish sorry...For example, the HSDPA speed is the same and it doesn't have HSPA+...our phone supports microSDHC too(someone tried microSDXC and it worked too...weird)...the original s3 mini hasn't NFC,there is a I8190N version with that.
Also,I don't think it will get Key Lime Pie if the Note,S2 and ours will not get it just because it is newer.Remember the S plus case(gigngerbread as the original S)
Not trying to flame, just correcting you.
In conclusion if solid multitasking isn't your thing,at my opinion S advance makes it because it has better front camera and an ambient light sensor. Also I like the design more...because it's smaller S3 mini doesn't look as good the S3.I saw them both.
You can't play 1080p videos with the stock video player. At heavy games the single core Mali says its word.
If you want a better phone just buy the S2.Better screen, ram and processor. Also the developement support is waay greater because of a biiiig user base.In my country, the difference is just like 25 euros.
I might switch to the S2 too...

Does anybody here know or at least suggest me, what should I keep (I already own the iPhone 5 but I can't use it when my parents are not at home) or should I go and buy XSP (there's a discount for this device otherwise I would need to consider about S3 Mini or Xperia M) which I could use at anytime I want? Thanks to everyone who answers!
XSP is heads and shoulders better than XM or S3. And since S3 Mini is a cut-down version of S3, both in size *and* specs, IMHO there is no reason to prefer the alternatives.
You do have to remember that moving to Android means leaving the Apple ecosystem behind. You'll have to repurchase apps, and there might be some games that are not available on Android.

I know but I mean the key features like multitasking, camera, headphone that comes with the phone and so on. I know that some games on iOS aren't on Android (like Infinity Blade 2) but that doesn't matter me much, the only game I play on the phone is Clash of Clans and sometime (rlly rarely) I play Asphalt 8 (which I have purchsed for both Android and iOS, no worry for piracy) so.. I just care for the key features like the rear and the front camera. Both of the phones have 8MP camera rear camera but the exposure is different, is that a big difference between the quality? And like the screen, as I know the iPhone 5 comes with an Retina HD display and XSP with TFT HD display but with BE2/X-Reality so I don't which is better
Pretty much everything is better on the iPhone 5. It has better multitask, camera, comes with better headphones, has better hardware performances. As an XSP user, I can't think of a feature were the XSP is better than the iPhone 5, there might be some, but the iPhone is mostly better.

But as I know, Android was made for multitaking and for hardware, the XSP haves better processor and the camera is same or am I wrong?
If you want something that just works then the iPhone 5 is better.
If you want something you can play around with ROMs and have more control over the phone then the Xperia SP is better.
My preference is Xperia SP, I dont mind the iPhone as a device but its restrictions annoy me.

Android is made for multitasking, however, due to how newer apps are build, devices require more than 1GB to run smoothly. Sadly, the SP just has 1GB of RAM, which makes it slow at times. The processor is good, but the one on the iPhone 5 is the same, if not better. And no, the camera, while 8mpx, works better on the iPhone.

The iPhone Camera is WAY better man.
The SP is awesome but as someone above stated,if you want something that works, the iPhone is better!
Good luck!

Ok but the iPhone still have only 1Gig RAM... Even some newer devices, even iPhone 5s didn't came with 2Gig RAM and for the headphones, both phone and headphone are using 3,5mm jack so... I can only think of the S5 and Z2(...?) to have 2Gig RAM so...

Can You post me some comparison pictures taken w/ the iPhone and the XSP? It would be really helpful.
Ok guys, looks like I'm more undecided now, can some1 do a +/- features for both phones (like comparing them). It would be great! Thanks! :highfive:
Edit1 : It would be even better, if any1 could suggest me a phone which I can play with the /system and do a normal work/sometime playing Clash Of Clans and Asphalt 8 and for music listening at the same time. I thought that the XSP can do it but it looks like it can't
Xperia SP:
+Design
+Loud speaker
+Bigger Screen
+Unique ilumination bar
+Runs a more "open" OS, Android (and outdated one)
-Camera
-Low RAM
-Materials used feels cheap at times
-Bad screen quality
Iphone 5:
+Design
+More apps
+More updates in the future (it will at least get two more mayor iOS updates)
+Premium build quality
+Better cameraS with slow-mo video (I'm not sure if it's the 5 and 5s or just the 5s)
+Better screen quality
+Better multitasking (iOS is more optimized for multitasking nowadays in my opinion, as iPhone 5 almost never lags).
-No unique feautres
-Speaker quality is okay.
+/- iOS is not as open as Android, but it's a beatiful design nevertheless.
This is what I can think of.

I can't post comparison pictures right now but there have been a lot of complaints about the XSP camera.
Some users are also experiencing some issues like blurring and extremely poor low light pictures.
If you need a good camera, dont get the XSP.
I don't think these issues are only with my device.
The phone is amazing in other aspects like hardware but if the camera is important, take a comparison from someone else has both the phones!
I'm sorry I can't put up pictures because I'm waiting at the airport
Good luck!
The camera on the SP is REALLY bad, the lenses even get scratched super easily, that's why people get blurry/overexposed pictures. If it's your priority, the more reasons to go for iPhone.

This phone can perfectly do that! Asphalt 8 runs fine with 0 lag on ultra settings and you should be able to play music when playing either of these games

And I know one thing about the i5: the WiFi sucks! My dad is always complaining about how he doesn't find any networks while I can find like 10 with my sp or that he can't connect to certain wireless network while I can

The SP had some WiFi reception problems (range) but the latest update has fixed it.
WiFi reception is perfect now!
