[Q] Is LP9 Safe now? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now that ICS is official and rolled out today in 4 different countries as LP9 (LP6) How can we know that the Bricking Bug is gone? Seriously Im steering away from LPY and LPF. It's time to set our heads straight, I'm only few days new with the Note and this bug is stressing me and us all out for sure Thanks in Advance. IDK if it's too early to ask...

I THINK so, but not 100% sure he got it fixed.
As for this ROM, I would avoid it right now. Entropy said he would avoid ALL samsung roms until they admit to their bug/mistake and say they have fixed it.

I've gone back to cm9 and don't know why I left it. Unless you use s pen apps I can't see a reason to be on a Samsung ics rom especially with all the hard bricks happening.

Im not worried about the S Pen apps at all, I already posted in General sections what are the best alternatives in my opinion. And my only want is to try the Samsungs i Battery life ROM. Already on CM9 and I love it as much. But curious about how will battery life be on a Sammy's ROM.

Its not fixed till google say they fixed it... Plus the version lp9 are older then lpf

Aaaaaaaand I wonder... Where in the hell is Samsung right now????
How is all this mess possible in an official release? I think samsung is even worse than nokia making software. They only care for buying expensive and brickeable devices.

Froyo for Captivate?

Has anyone even seen proof of a real froyo firmware for the captivate? One would think that at least an about screen screenshot showing froyo would have leaked out. Makes me wonder if Samsung has even started working on Froyo for any of the Galaxy S variants.

I wonder the same thing. It seems were close to Gingerbread releasing. I've been thinking they may not waste the time/money on Froyo and be on the leading edge by having Gingerbread OTA'd

I dont see that happening but lets hope so.
There haven't been any leaked Captivate specific Froyos. My take on it is that Samsung currently is putting all their development into the I9000, and once they've reached stability, or in Samsung's case the point where they think it's "Good enough" they'll use that existing body of code and port it over for the other SGS variants.
All of the SGS variants (with the exception of the epic) are VERY similar hardware-wise, as you know first hand from running I9000 firmwares on your handset irtehun . Once they have a working framework of Froyo it would be relatively simple for them to make some kernel based modifications and carrier based "bloat" and kick it out the door for the other handsets.

I can't help but think of the epix my wife had when thinking about Samsung and updates. That phone was slated to get winmo 6.5. Last I checked maybe a month ago it still said coming soon Haha. She ended up having to get rid of that phone because it was so buggy, but I'll never forget the horrible service from Samsung. I got this phone hoping they'd changed with all their promises. [Q] why all the craze for GB when its full of bugs?

Whys everyone "OMG! I CANT WAIT FOR GB" or "CANT WAIT TO GET YOUR GB ROM" etc?
The OFFICIAL i9000 gb update has been pulled because its so full of issues still? Do people really think its a good idea?!
I loaded a few to try em out. They were all garbage.
actually if your flashaholic it really matters it's their choice.. for the positive note it gives feedback to the dev to work for improvements and the end result is a much polished rom. somehow when it will be stable you will be using it. give thanks to all the users who act as a ginuia pig for that cause....
I am thankful for the GB drop and all the devs that work on it. However, I have flashed probably a thousand things in the last year. Including spl and radios. The gingerbread rom bricked my phone when going back to stock and now I am using the backup G1 hoping Samsung is able to fix it without charging me for the repair, I am under the one year warranty. So just a warning read a whole thread before you try flashing these GB roms. They can kill your phone if you try to go back to stock.
Well then you have not tried Continuim 5 B3. I have tried all the others and find I fast and smooth and am using it as my daily driver. I am addicted to flashing so I will keep trying other gingerbreads but you should at least check it out.
C5 is nice. It's more about staying up with the times for some but it is smooth. This is the same question when froyo came out and I get it but we are in the early stages. When this is lined out you wont move back and all of the people hyping it will test and work out the bugs for the rest. Be happy the hype is going on and others like me test it. You will be rocking it eventually I guarantee.

Dont know about you but i was late to android espcially after the i9000 froyo roms dropped. Running the gb roms helps people that werent into development before reach out into dev work. Making the whole community stronger. Thats just my view on it. Hopefully with a little bit of reading and practice even I can contribute.

Buy a SGS or wait?

Hey guys, would you reccomend buying a SGS 2 or waiting for the next version? Anyone know when the next version will be out? I am on AT&T thanks!
it simply depends on the fact if u can afford a better device when it comes out... if you can then go ahead and wait... if you cant then there is no point... and if you choose to wait then wait a little longer to see if the device has sufficient developer support, if you are into rooting n custom ROMS...
I think it's best to wait for the S3 i will definately wait for it and i think it's worth waiting
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
Its better to wait for S3 it will be very good for sure
I thought to buy the galaxy s2 because my s1 don't became ics and was very slow with all roms that i tried. But with the slim ics ROM I'm now very happy and the performance is great. Now i will wait until the s1 will die or no more updates will come from the Android community.
That save a lot of money and I'm very happy with my old lag free phone.
Just my 2 cent.
And excuse me for my English, best regards from Germany.
send from SGS i9000 with Slim ICS 3.1
I completely agree with the last poster. With Gingerbread, I was looking to upgrade. After I put ICS on my phone—especially with bigmem kernels sporting 400mb of available RAM—I see absolutely no reason to upgrade. My phone doesn't lag and I can play any of the new games I want to. I would definitely wait for the S3.
It depends on what you wanna do with your phone.
You are on XDA, so i guess you wanna try new roms an tweak your phone to the fullest
In that case buy the SGS 2, there is already a lot of devs building roms for the SGS 2
If you want the newest phone..... and can wait for it's release (don't know exactly when)... and can afford it..... and can wait for root to come out, the SGS 3 is your choice.
I have a SGS 1 to play with so my choice would be simpel... wait for the SGS 3.
Sgs3 22nd may UK. I have seen it and it really looks as if its from beyond this galaxy!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I'd totally wait and even after S3 being released would wait some more.
I never buy something new after being fairly well tested and reviewed.
And even so, i'll probably hang to my SGS. I'm not even joking my phone's fast as hell even with a GB based rom, have probably the best sound you can have on any phone around, the perfect screen size for me with a beautiful screen with beautiful colors to look at, frontal button with no useless touch buttons (really who needs a dedicated search button anyway), built in a perfectly solid enough case with battery to spare for a whole day (i ask for no more).
i've been using mintberry miui for a good while now, have it well customized (plenty of wireless passwords saved, loads of apps with several data, everything works flawlessly without a single FC for months) and i can't really imagine all of this going even faster, it's fast enough as it is. I don't even consider changing to an ICS rom just yet.
The only things i would change is the **** gps that never really worked regardless what i try and wireless going into sleep mode regardless of me configuring it not to (although this is a rom/kernel problem). But i can live with both, my car already has gps, i already had a dedicated device before getting this phone as well and i can always have my phone not entering sleep at all in the first place, so... meh This is nitpicking anyway.
Really, i've put to thought changing my phone many times, but after considering what i'll get i always end up realizing my phone delivers everything i need with power to spare.
If you own an SGS you probably already have the best there is
I'm waiting for the Galaxy S4
i got both sgs1 an sgs2 so comparing sgs1 is sexy on gb but sgs2 is sexy on gb too..but performance of sgs2 is better an iam planning for new device tht will b latest may b sgs3 so better wait cause teck speeking quadcore, cam, speed war will start soon an every company will rush out new phones,so ull hav a chance to select,an may b the price falls too (who knos)........cheeeerz

Wait.
Definitely.
Ultimately.
Short time.
10 years only.
And buy Samsung Galaxy 95.
Any earlier model would be a crap.
I thought I read somewhere that it will not be out until Q3/Q4 this year...but if you ask me, I would certainly not wait...considering the current SGS (almost 2 years old?) is still able to run ICS decently, I really see no reason the upgrade the hardware, or in this case, to wait for newer hardware...
If you ask me I would definitely wait for S2 till it's price would fall or just wait some more time to buy S3 . i wouldn't go for S1 generation anymore

[Q] LAG? Stock ICS vs. ...

Wanting thoughts or answers on why there is so much noticeable lag on Stock ICS? Ive used stock GB, laggy. Leaked ICS. Laggy. CM9 buttery smoooooth. Stock ICS. Lag :/
Now I can understand that Samsung put all the extra crap into touchwiz and their roms... And CM9 is simplified/optimised. But I also just put Criskelo's ROM on and it TOO is buttery smooth YET is LPY based with touchwiz and some crap. So I fail to understand why the german stock release is so laggy. As well as GB. Is this a conspiracy to push the average user to faster devices because at times i felt my note was less than satisfactory then I put on CM9 or this Rom and i remember why i love it again. Bit of a rant but hey. Surely Samsung of all Android phone manufacturers would have a development team capable of making a high quality near flawless rom...performance issues just suck the fun...
...and in terms of lag. Screen transitions. Page scrolling. Widgets and general poorer quality stuttering.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
did u flash cf-root kernel with stock lpy as i noticed lag too with cf root,
but when i flashed stock lpy without cf root it is very smooth
Flashed the stock (unrooted) German firmware using Odin. All went fine but since then I didn't like the speed of the device anymore. The note was noticeable slower, apps needed an extra second to start up.
(b.t.w. bricked my device while trying to get back to GB)

Hey Ce! Sorry for OT, but how did you try to go back to GB? What steps have you gone through?
is this a for serious, real post?..
I am on an older rooted KKA stock ROM and really dont see any noticeable lag... hopefully you are aware that the largest contributor to perceived lag is the user and the decisions he makes, rather than the firmware.

Of course is real.My phone(ICS) also lag, battery life is terrible, wifi signal is really bad, phone freezes(for about 1minute),Voice control app crashes, screen sometimes does not register the touch,etc... Funny, games work really well.
Today I discovered another disturbing thing - my screen is burned-in. If I have some white page(picture) opened in landscape mode, I can see status bar burned-in on the left side. Status bar is black(so screen diodes are turned off) and it's always on the same place. If the entire screen is white I can see status bar like brighter colour, wifi&mobile bars(avast icon, etc) are in darker yellowish color. Also the rest of the screen is darker-yellowish. And I have my phone only 3.5 months! My old Motorola Milestone have better white color.

I know this is kind of cliche, but always make sure you do a full wipe. I was having some minor annoyances here and there when I first flashed ICS over GB, but then when I reflashed after a full wipe, every thing has been butter smooth.

Yeah i always do full wipe. As for the perceived lag. No...definate lag. Criskelos lpy is not laggy at all. Apart from minor text input. Probably flashed 50 times with diff variants so im well aware (IMO). I was thinking it was maybe to do with hardware/software acceleration and battery life savings but the battery lifw on stock was nothing fantastic by any stretch. I guess time will tell with any other future stock releases whether it was just oushed too early. From all the variants i can see this phone is more then capable so heres hoping...

Considering buying a note

Well my wife love the note but I never stay stock and there is not even a small chance I'm not getting the latest os available..
Got jb in my gnex and it's awesome... And compared to gb, gb its plain trash... I also got a gtab p7500 with ICS from the cm9 team and I always stay up to date with nightlies but reading some here in the forum and the stickies I'm really scared of getting the note now as it seems like it's a really bad choice if want to get the cutting edge improvements from any rom out there... Cm9 specially Wich are my favorite roms and francos kernel my favorite kernel...
So will appreciate any honest warning/advice so I won't end with a 600$ brick... As I stated above I WON'T stay neither stock nor GB...
Thanks in advance.. I even accept an honest comment like stay away from it and I won't buy it...

Basically Note is a great phone to have also
and its official stock rom is already ics
but we love customs rom with all the amazing s3 interface n coming jb roms
you will not encounter brick unless.. rooting n flashin roms instruction is not followed
always flash abyss kernel before flashing other roms or kernel.. thats the safest way so far...
so go for it
+1 you WILL NOT regret it.
I love my note, Its like having a tablet with me at all times, The development is awesome, There are some epic mods available and JB wont be long either !
Just follow instructions and you will be fine, The biggest issue is getting as far away as possible from the stock ICS kernel, Just flash a safe one like Abyss or speedmod (there are more) and you will be fine.
I will never leave the Note series now ive experienced it, All other phones look like toys.
Well if you could wait for the Galaxy Note 2 I suggest I would just keep the money for now as Samsung is taking so long to fix the god damned superbrick bug officially. But if you can't wait go for it then, as there are ways to keep your NOTE safe from the bug.
Just read the instructions carefully twice for whatever ROM that you will be using and you will be safe. Safer if you have CM9 rom/kernel
Oh and btw about you're favorite franco kernel, franco left the development of the kernel recently as there are trolls on his thread. He said that he will update in time but god knows when.
^ agreed.
if you aren't in a rush, wait till GNote 2.
Most probably the emmc bug will be fixed so you wont have to worry too much about bricking.
Also if we're lucky it will most likely have jb preinstalled so you won't need to worry about running gb.
But if you really can't wait, just buy it and follow instructions and you should be alright.
Buy A Note
Buy a note. You wont regret it. I have been using this phone for like 6 months now. It's really great. At first I thought the size is too big. But when you get used to it every other phones looks likes toys to you. You really gotta buy one. :good:
hey i bought a NOTE jus a month back.. I already installed a custom roms and as a starter i did not find any glitches,, its a lovely phone
Go for it
Well reading all the super brick stuff the note scares the hell out of me but reading your comments and being cm9 fan now I'm more confident to buy it... Waiting for note 2 gonna be a hell for me cuz my wife want the Damn thing so bad... So ill get her 1 note this week and probably get a note 2 for myself when ever it comes out
Thanks guys

Don't be scared because of the brick bug only people who don't read fall victim to this bug. If you heed 2 rules the note is never going to brick:
1 Never ever do a wipe (neither in cwm nor through factory reset) on an affected kernel. Pay attention to the fact that wipe roms have to be considered dangerous too. So if you want to wipe flash a save kernel first.
2 Read as much as possible about the problem. Everything that is important when it comes to the famous brick bug has already been written here at xda.
If you pay attention to those 2 simple rules you will definitely be on the safe side.

Black crush / pixel crush / color rendering issue. You basically will not get deep blacks with the screen watching dark videos/movies, instead, you will get pixelicious grays. It's horrible to be honest. General feedback on this issue is... I dunno maybe 70% of the users are affected. Replacements have the same issue.
