[Q] HTC Tilt ExtUSB usage - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Greetings All,
Phone: HTC Tilt
OS: WinMo 6.1
I have searched this site and others looking for references to using the ExtUSB connection for RS232 data many times. I have found quite a few references to updating ROMs, unbricking and even Android use but none for anyone using the HTC Tilt ExtUSB connector for plain old data communication.
My question is: can the ExtUSB be used for RS232?
If the answer is yes, then a link would be appreciated.
If no, is there a phone recommendation that uses WinMo in which the ExtUSB is useable for RS232 serial data. In my project, this phone may be lost or destroyed in its final run. Older low cost units are good!
I am aware of the need to level shift, etc.
Before you ask, I am using a Bluetooth dongle to get data through it. I just happen to need a second port.
Thank you all for taking time to read my posting!
Best regards,
Fred

IrDA

does it really lacks the IrDA port?
I use the irda port on my wizard to download my Polar Data.
Yup, it really does lack IR.

Damn you HTC

Sucks big time. I used my Trinity as a universal remote. I hate it when they replace specs instead of just upping them.
Cutting reduces cost, size and use of battery life.
Most people didn't use IrDA
maybe you can find one for the SD/IO port ?

Thanks but I don't particularly like the idea of stuff sticking out of my sd ports. Besides, (micro)SDIO products are few and far between. They never should have removed it because infrared is still used in a number of different appliances which could double your phone as a remote control. As far as I know, it doesn't take up battery life whilst idle (unless you set it to constantly watch for incoming beams?)...
I sure hope their next phone reintroduces it.

Don't like stuff hanging out of mine either!
Sadly, I doubt very much you will see it return in future devices. The TyTn had one, but it's range was veeeery low, just a couple of feet. I have the feeling it's like floppy discs getting as rare as hens teeth.

Welcome "Industry trends"
Some fool decided that IrDA is a no-go and should be removed from laptops and hence from PDAs since Bluetooth has 100% penetration. Outlook for this was 2007, then pushed to 2008 and now they are talking about 2009... I know my company sells chips with IrDA support for laptops coming out on 2008/9... there is still demand but probably the chipset used for the P4550 does not support FIR (IrDA) anymore...
I am in search for a new device to replace my BlueAngel and have had a look at the TyTn II as well as the P6500 but I am very disapointed to find out that the IrDA is no longer available in the new HTC units. I am using the Ir for several devices like my other phones, Polar sports watch, dive computer etc. so for me the Ir is an essential feature.
Are there any way to get this working, I have not found any external units to connect to the TyTn via mini USB. (Even though I would hate have to have some contraption hanging out of the device.)
As of now I might start consider leaving the HTC-land after 6 years with their fantastic products.

Just wondering if anyone has found a solution/accessory for this lack of IrDA port? I have a Touch Cruise which also lacks a IRDA (Gee thanks HTC). I need to get it to talk to my Polar S625x watch. Anyone found a miniUSB IRDA device?
Thanks
OK, I have read a bunch of posts on the lack of IR abilities and how the Tilt uses BT to beam. I just sent a file from the Tilt to my Hermes via BT and it took about 10 seconds. I enabled IR on both devices and aligned the IR port on the Herm towards the left side of the Tilt and it gave the option to beam, I beamed the same size file and it took less than a second. I am not sure I understand, I repeated the test 3 times with the same result. Any ideas?
has anyone tryed this?

Its a sd to microsd port so you can fit into your sdio irda into your phone. its gona be pretty big but at least that is an option...

Kaiser and Power Point

Does anyone know if it is possible to use Kaiser to project a power point presentation, bypassing the need for a laptop, and without the use of an intermediate device like the Margi PDA presenter? I read that the new HTC phones may be able to do that, if so is this a software or special hardware wiring? is it a function of the device being VGA or qVGA display? I would appreciate an explanantion by one of the experts.
You are hearing about a technology that hasn't yet been released... it will be a micro projector built into the phone or as an ipod sized accessory.

If you mean the sort of video output dongle thats possible to use with the Touch Pro and other devices, no it won't work if used with the Kaiser. I've not tried it with my Kaiser, I've just read it here somewhere on XDA-DEV that it doesn't work with a Kaiser.
I am talking about the ability of the new devices e.g. Fuze to connect directly to a TV or slide projector using a special cable from the mini USB on on one end and has RCA connections on the other to attach to the external display device. See this:

Kaiser doesn't support/have the TV Out feature, this was asked and explain before, just search the kaiser forum and you will get your answer.

XPERIA tvout via jack cable, check and not work!!

Hello!!
I installed tvout.cab from other HTC device to XPERIA.
In folder windows, after installation, some files were creates: HTCTVOutPopUp.exe,HTCTVOutPopUp.png, etc, etc.....
I plug my tv out cable from n95(Jack to RGB(yellow/white/red)), but only the sound from my xperia listen in my tv, no image at all.
Then, I tried to click and execute HTCTVOutPopUp.exe from windows folder with cable jack plug to my TV, but nothing happens.
Also I tried to modify some registry values like:
HKLM\ControlPanel\TVOutSetting, HKLM\ControlPanel\TVOutSetting
HKLM\Software\HTC\TVOutPopUp/PAL...etc, etc...nothings seems to works.
Sound listen ok, but no image.
I think, that if there are any change that tv-out xperia works, the right cable to plug to TV is mini-usb to RGB like touch pro and no jack to RGB.
I hope you understand my post...I am from Spain and I am writing too fast.
It will not work...
Xperia doesnt have any tv-out features
Thanks for trying it out. Like you said, if there is something there, the system will be identical to touch pro.
Would be funny if the connectors are there
From what I hear Touch Pro has a proprietary USB connector that has more pins and uses them for audio and TV-out. On the other hand XPERIA has a standard miniB USB plug that doesn't host more pins for these functions.
If it doesn't work from the 3.5mm jack I doubt that it will work at all (except if it is a software problem). I am quite disappointed with SE because the hardware is there but they didn't bother to implement the feature.
There are another couple of threads about this already, stating most of what's been said here. There is a "TVOutEnable" or similar reg setting that someone found, though I can't seem to find it on my X1i (more than likely due to the custom ROM, it was on the standard Vodafone UK ROM). Thing is this reg setting is about 6-7 digits long, not just a 0 or 1.
I'd like to see if this setting is also on the Touch Pro, and see if copying this setting to the xperia would make a difference.
Another point is that other phones using the same 4-pin audio output route the TVOut function to the headphone/mic connectors, as does the Touch pro; IF the TVOut function is at all doable, then it will more than likely use the headphone socket. Domin8or said in another thread that the USB connector actually has plated connectors on the other side, like the proprietary HTC USB socket, but I can't tell from looking at mine whether that's true or not, though I intend to test it out by hacking the headset I got with the Touch Pro to fit into the xperia USB socket to see if there are any connectors there.
I somehow reckon this will be done at some point, provided we can get the correct reg settings and software to work; the TVOut function as I understand is part of the chipset, which is just ignored by SE in the xperia, probably because of licensing fees/other costs involved with getting the functionality "approved" by qualcomm. If the TVOut functions on other phones use the same connectors as the headset/mic, then I don't see why the connectors wouldn't be present and connected on the xperia, just not enabled by software... That'll be a job for us* at XDA then
When I say "us" I mean the community in general, there are way, way more talented people here than me who might be able to help with this, I just hope I can help in any way I can testing etc...

sorry I`m not english speaking. but are you saying video out works or You just tryed?
i tried my wired htc remote in the x1 and couldnt get it too work, got it hacked down to shape but it wasnt recognised by the device
its also not the same internals as the touch pro or hd as theres no g sensor
well, unless there are hardware limitations, ex : missing pin or those htc devices are using special jacks; i don't see why it won't work in x1 since it's more than 90% similar to Pro and HD, but perhaps it will need more than just a simple registry hacks.
I guess this all depend on the kindness and dedications from many smarter guys in entire x1 communities.
Hi
Its ane hope to make TV OUT in xperia working?
Sort for my anglish
Did anyone tried putting the Rom of a touch pro to x1 then try the tv out with it?
what
a
pointless
thread...
there is no hardware inside xperia to have tv-out. it is the same case like with people looking for fm radio in tytn 2. if I am wrong, I will eat my shorts.

Actually the hardware IS there, we just don't know if it is connected to the USB or audio jack.
It is true though that this seems a long shot.
one of the reasons why I bought the Xperia is because of the TV out....Yikes!
I should have given it a little more research before buying, but if it is really possible, I hope somebody finds out how to do it.

probably not connected to anything brah
So at last is it possible or no ?
It won't work and probably never will.
It won't work because of the contacts e.g. 3.5mm it lacks the contacts for video only for left and right speaker and for mini usb, it lacks pins.. it only works with data and charging..

Kaiser TV out with touch pro cable

Hy I have a Kaiser and I would know if there is the possibility to connect my smartphone to the Tv with this cable:
http://www.expansys.it/p.aspx?i=170917
I also see some post of xda and I see some thread talking about some software or drivers for the settings of tv out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452077
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419391
and also for the htc diamond:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=412350&page=20
could it be possible to do also on Kaiser??
(it's my first thread and I''m sorry for my english )
could someone help me??
The Kaiser does not have the necessary hardware for TV out, so even with all the necessary cables and software, it still won't work.
ok
thanks a lot
