Galaxy froyo roms ported to the nexus one is possible if so please can someone port a really good rom??? desire fully working with 720p and all???
The Samsung launcher has been ported. You are obviously new to the rom development scene if you think any Sense rom will be 100% portable because of camera and bluetooth hardware differences.

why was the g1 able to port all difference types of roms...even till this day?? and the nexus cant and yes i know the launcher is up but it sucks honestly....
I know that TeamHacksung is working on an ICS port and CM9 may unofficially be ported to the G-Note at some point, but that's all in the unforeseeable future.
And all the Gingerbread ROMs I see in the development section are ToucWizified.
Am I missing one, or did all the current custom rom "developers" keep their creations totally TouchWiz-bound?

my previous phone was a HTC hd2. yes window phone. rooted to run android 2.3 with sense and I can tell u, its even faster (scrolling, flip thru menus, contact scrolling) than my gnote. I can say, touchwiz is way way too bloated.
my old phone can use go widget launcher n is still smooth
gnote with 2x the hardware specs, lag!
I am also waiting for a pure rom, not a tweaked stock.
On sgs2 I used miui and it was really, really nice.

Hi all. I've tried ICS on my IncS and on my Asus transformer TF 101. After a month's use on the Asus and a week's use on the inc s, I've reverted to stock Rom on the Asus and to ARHD (almost stock) on the inc s. Correct me or convince me but I find ICS to be one big step sideways (or is it in the wrong direction)?. Your comments?
...edit...
I prefer sense ROMs.

Sense fanboy rules out this whole statement. Going from cm7 to cm9 is extreme. If I wasn't on a cell I'd elaborate.

I guess ICS is a huge step for guys that never tried MIUI or don't like Sense Roms, for those o tried/like MIUI and Sense it is a question of just some more features.

At least for devices built with/for Sense in mind, when it gets officially combined with ICS by HTC (later this year, they say), it may reveal a new light on the subject.
It might work great and be more stable/smooth and give you the desired Sense functions that current ICS ports don't have.
And only at 4.0.3, ICS may yet have places to go we will have to wait to see.
Maybe you are correct, still.. for now...

These two bits of information are key. Try it on a Galaxy Nexus / Nexus S and you may have a differing opinion.
well as st.matt said, you should try it on the galaxy nexus device and then only you will get the real taste of ice crem sandwich!
With better interface, power management, loads of new features...its definitely better than its previous versions.
@StMatt,
I agree better hardware, newer phone goes well with ICS. But does it mean that older phones with less RAM, slower single core processors can run the same OS with all bells & whistles? I have this inc s which I feel.is good enough with ARHD sense 3.0 (even sense 3.5 makes this phone groan & creak), so what is good for THIS device? ICS with all its refinements? Without some 'nice to have features' that Google has deliberately throttled in ICS? Or even the ICS upgrade with sense 3.5, that's due in Q2? Maybe the last option seems best IMHO. Anyone else like to refute?

Doesn't have to do specifically with hardware. It means those phones and tablets have better support due to official releases.
Everything else that doesn't have an official release has devs trying their best to get it working, but not everything is working or disabled. Such as most HTC devices.
Sense 3.5 reduced my phone to a laggy mess, which is why I switched to miui. I'd be interested in seeing what the official release of ICS runs like when it's out.
When htc release the update to Ics there will be lots of Ics Roms that are really smooth and fast for the incredible s
yes agree with you. sens + ics in my opinion will be a step forward
I'm waiting too for ICS + sense. Lets get our hopes up..... Or not!

After seeing the ICS ports by StMatt and Virtuous team, I'm having a sneaky, suspicious feeling that ICS + sense will make me wish for going back to gingerbread + sense.
ICS IMO has been a major disappointment, (just like the Niagara Falls have been the second major disappointment in an American bride's life).

I've been running the Quattro ROM on my phone for almost a month now, and while that ROM does have some customization in it and still has a fair bit of bugs, I'd have a hard time going back to 2.3 even with the Sense. While Sense is really nice, Android before ICS did have a fair bit of lag on it and just didn't feel as smooth as things like iOS. With ICS, moving homescreens, swiping pages in applications, etc. just feels a little more natural and with less lag.
Plus, with Google Chrome for ICS, that's enough reason to go over. Miles above the stock Android browser!
Nik is releasing a sense+ ics rom tomorrow and I can't wait to try it. I tried all the other ics roms that are out for the incs and I have to admit that I'm quite disappointed. I use cm7 before I switched to trinity so niks New rom might be the one for me

Seems like some Microsoft initiated FUD campaign, in order to promote Windows 8; but whaddya know, there may just be some truth in the fact that "ICS has not been well received by phone / tablet manufacturers and ICS acceptance percentages have been way too little"
Maybe there is some truth in the blurb, and maybe the sour grapes feeling in me is really justified....

Do you think the ICS original rom will receive 3.X kernel? That would be awesome!
when the nexus s was released i was a god send for galaxy s devs because they had all they stuff they need (source) to have a very good implementation of cm7
when the galaxy s2 was released it was hell for devs they ended up signing a petition with +10000 signatures just to get the kernel source and that took them over 6 months or so (as far as i can remember )
now with the HTC one almost as the same as the nexus 4's hardware , no ?
are there big architectural changes?
could they use stuff from the nexus 4 to make cm10.1 work flawlessly ?
The hardware of the n4 and the one are very very very different , so it won't benefit from the n4.

Why did you think a HTC built phone would benefit from a LG built phone.
The soc isnt even in the same Series Never mind all the camera changes. There nothing alike
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
An open SoC from QC is a step in the right direction, however sense kernels are quite different from those needed for CM/AOSP roms, so it's unlikely it will be perfect. The HOX still has niggles with CM today because some of the blobs just don't play along with non-sense roms.
These days if you want decent CM, I think you just need to buy a Nexus. If only the N4 were better I'd buy one...
Currently tossing up between this phone and the Xperia Z, if I get this it'll be under the mindset that i'll probably be running sense on it forever (annoyingly).

what is the difference between sense based roms vs aosp based roms? i've seen some sense based ones that have the same UI as CM10 etc.

It's personal preference. CM10 roms are typically alot smaller and tend to use less ram so can aid device performance. Some people also just like running a rom like they would get on a nexus. Of course this all depends on CM10/10.1 being decent on the phone.. if it doesn't work well because of sense kernels, then it's not really worth it.
If you want to run excellent CM roms, I would suggest waiting until kernel sources are out and see what devs can do, or just buy a nexus (though there's no nexus as good as the One).
i'm currently running aokp on my One X. the only real reason i flash roms is so i can have the status bar, settings, dialer, phonebook etc look like stock android.
is it possible to have a sense based rom that will be skinned to look like stock android? with the status bar, settings, dialer and all that jazz?

Not completely skinned, no. Dialler is the hardest part IMO as there's no custom dialler that looks like the stock one does. It's actually the thing I miss most when running sense.

I would disagree with that to a point. I've used sense ROMs where, when you push AOSP contacts.apk to /system/app, you get get AOSP dialer and contacts. Same with mail is possible, if I remember correctly. I've even seen the AOSP settings used in sense (though, it may have been just themed that way) in jellybomb domination ROM. I forget exactly, it's been a while. I run just AOKP or PACman on my Evo lte. I buy HTC for the hardware, not the software. But, sense 5 is intriguing and seems to resemble AOSP more than in the past, but with the blink feed and Zoe (which is what I do find intriguing).
From my Evo LTE, yup.

in cm your're guaranteed to miss out on some key features. For instance, with the HTC EVO 4g LTE (and the one x and all its variants as far as i know), CM cannot incorporate the sense based cameras into the rom, so your're really getting something like 70% of the image quality because nobody's been able to figure out how to use the separate, Sense-designated optics hardware with an aosp rom. You're obviously missing out on hmdi/mhl out so forget about connecting to your tv. There are issues with using mass storage from sdcard (probably not going to be a problem here though), amongst others.
CM is on the other hand, generally more customizable and smoother to run than sense based roms, but there are some sense roms (like VIPER 4G 3.X) that are imo right on par with CMX when it comes to great custom experience yet do not omit important hardware features.
Hey there,
i'm having my HTC for around 2 months now and never hold a senserom more than 15 minutes.
So, no matter on what forum i look, sense roms are much more popular and famous than GPE or even CM roms.
With my older Phones (Galaxy ace, Galaxy S plus, Galaxy S3) CM roms were (or still are) more popular, but on the HTC sense roms are much more popular. Whats the point?
I mean.. ok no doubt, the sense camera is awesome! But blinkfeed? Who needs it? Or at least who is using it?
Other than that.. Beats audio? GPE Rom has it too, just without the icon on the statusbar.
GPE Roms are faster and not full of bloat (IMO!)
So what's the real point behind this?
It's NOT a fighting thread or a thread like "OMG! Sense roms suck QQ mimimi" NO! I just want to know why you guys like sense roms much more? I'm just curious
I prefer the UI, being able to arrange my apps in folders without using the home screen. I actually use BlinkFeed quite a for my technology/science news.
I don't really find any bloat.
Most people buy HTC because of Sense, atleast I do. I prefer HTC's style over any other oem's.

For me I just like it due to the fact its something different. My last 3 devices have had things like CM, SlimBean, etc. which are all more or less stock. I feel sense is minimal enough that its still snappy (not like touchwiz IMO) and I kind of like the sense lock screen on how it displays information. Thats just my opinion at least
I prefer aosp roms too. But WiFi calling is a must for me, and no other carrier has better rates.

Short answer: aosp got boring.
Long
Had gs2. Cm was the only way to get on point android updates that year.
Sense 5+ has been great and HTC is really on the ball with updates this year.

For starters Beats sounds a lot better on Sense roms to my ears, also stock Sense is pretty fluid if I'm being honest. GPE roms are faster in a sense but the difference is hardly noticeable and in fact I find the stock sense gallery to be a lot smoother than the stock gallery on the GPE roms. I have a lot of photos and whilst there isn't any lag on Sense I find a bit of lag in the stock gallery.
In regards to Samsung phones, CM was popular because people grew sick of how bloated Touchwiz is. Sense is of course larger than any GPE rom but they really nailed it in terms of speed, and its certainly faster than Touchwiz. I also find the battery life on GPE roms to be worse than on Stock sense. I'm currently on Sinless (GPE rom) and it's fast, like all other GPE roms. Still, I miss the Sense gallery, loudspeaker quality, longer battery life and data speed (my data is a bit slower on GPE roms).
I'm in the middle by the way. I switch roms quite often (from Sinless, to Insertcoin to ViperOne) and each version has their own pro's and cons but I certainly don't feel like I really really need to flash a GPE rom or CM unlike when I had my Galaxy S3
Thanks guys
And for the troll.. no its not "why do people like different stuff than me"... read the first post again, ty..
@Galactus Really? well, i never noticed the faster data speed, but what i noticed is that i got a more stable data, on GPE roms i have all 4 full bars.. on sense roms i have like 2-3 bars.. dont know why :/ using latest sense firmware.
Anyways, thanks again

Best way to check is using an app or going into settings, about, status and seeing if your actually getting worse signal or not. My signal is the same on both but data definitely seems a bit faster (with less latency) on Sense roms
I really can't live without the sense camera. I fell in love with GPE, but the camera is a huge part of my smartphone use so had to revert to sense. If someone could port the sense camera again then I would spend all my time on GPE!
I check Blinkfeed like 3 times a day. I thinks it's very good
the reason i wont change is because i love blinkfeed ,it brings some animation to a boring otherwise OS ,i have tried every latest phone available and find the HTC One the best.

+1 I love HTC's Sense and the One's hardware + build quality. I believe to be a perfect phone!
You will get a thousand different reasons from many people. Sense is more popular then say TouchWiz from samsung due to it being far more fluid. Htc Started on Sense long before android came to light so it is a bit more polished to some. But just like TW it adds features to the device that some people like.
On that note thread closed.
