Hi,
I'm looking for Kernels for ICS ROMs. There are a lot of kernels but I don't know which will work with ICS ROMs (I tried Abyss Kernel and it's not working).
Could someone give me examples (links would be appreciated)?

With the exception of the kernel included with CM9 - there are currently no safe ICS kernels, and only one custom ICS kernel for Touchwizz firmwares which has a lot of compatibility problems.
This will change in the next week or two as kernel source code was finally posted this morning.
Ok - understood.
Could you tell me why I have ~200 MB free RAM from 1 GB in my SGN? My old SGSII had ~400-500 MB free?

hey guys!
I'm just wondering about the relationship among theese three beast..xD
for example, I've ICS Stunner and I tried to flash another kernel supposed to have BLN support..awesome! well..stuck at kernel logo..conclusion? happy wiping and reflashing (we are flashaholic, aren't we?! ). so I realized that kernel and rom must be compatible.
have someone managed to get BLN working on Stunner?

The only problem we have here is we dont have options in kernels that work on ICS. On GB roms we have fanco abyss etc kernels that support the rom and BLN app for notifications. That's why we normally use the abyss 3.9 kernel in recovery in ICS roms whenever we want to flash anything in recovery or revert to GB.
And as per i know there isn't any kernel that suppport ICS and also support BLN notifications.
thank you very much!

What are the main difference between the two classes of kernels?
Is it true that it is not possible to use an ICS kernel on GB?
I have seen that kernels 2.6 and 3.0 exists for both CM7 and CM9 (and tryed out several of them), but I have been unable to spot a clear explanation of why you cannot use an ICS kernel on GB ...
Any relevant pointer greatly appreciated, thanks
Realy sorry for my noob question, I have a locked bootloader
I was researching a bit about the ICS for xperia x8, seeing that only custom roms based on AVD run on stock kernel, because the AVD is based on the same kernel version.
But, isn't possible to adapt the CM9 to run on stock kernel?
Why the CM9 don't have support for X8 on Cyanogenmod website? How developers made Roms based on it?
Moreover, why all the custom kernels are based on version 2.6.29.6? It is impossible or unnecessary to create a custom kernel based on 2.6.32 or up?
Sorry for my bad English.
So ics can't run on stock kernel.Stock kernel miss a lot of components from 3.0 kernel. The kernel is 2.6.29.6 but to have 2.6.32 need to port a lot of stuff so this mean need a lot of time. The nAa kernel's and alfs' kernel is pathed to 2.6.29.6 For now we have ported some components from 32,35,38 and 3.0 kernels.
We do have ics for stock but it is not for daily use. And the development has stopped so don't expect updates/fixes.
As naa said, stock kernel really can't support ics.

yes ics or jb on stock kernel is impossible and trying to port it is pointless.
We have ics for stock kernel, but gods sake its laggy, buggy. Its not good for daily use. U can find roms like ics. X8 is now old. But u can unlock bootloader by paid method. Next time please search.
Really thanks for your answers.
Interesting, I did not know that the custom kernels had several other superior features.
Actually run on ICS stock kernel is impossible, but there is very buggy roms projects based on avd can i run. What I was wondering is whether it is possible to install the CM9 on stock kernel. I do not think it was just out of curiosity noob ...

Yeah. Its possible, check in development section.

I've tried the only two ics roms for the x8 stock kernel, and I know it's possible to INSTALL, but did not to use, because there are more bugs than fixes.
My doubt is if I can INSTALL CM9 in stock kernel, since I tested these roms are pure android, not CyanogenMod, they are based in AVD, android debug bridge. :fingers-crossed:
Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm still learning about ROMs and Kernels.
Before I installed JB Ultimate N7000 XXLS7 Jellybean 4.1.2 v4, I had the Hydracore universal kernel installed.
The JB ROM comes packaged with its own kernel. Is there any reason why I should re-install Hydracore? Is there any advantage to doing this at this stage?
The only change I can see wanting to make to my phone in the foreseeeable future is to try out the official Sangsung Jellybean ROM when it finally gets released as this may include features or apps not in the 4.1.2 v4 and I would like to compare.
Thanks and reagrds
Trevor
which version of Hydracore were you refering to ? if it is compatible with LS7 ( not too sure about that) then the OC version of it will give you the ability to overclock if you are a fan of that feature.
most continue on Phillz ls7 kernel, its the only one which allows the multi-window feature in ls7 to work
hydracore is not compatible with any leak jb based roms. install only if you want your phone not to boot
Many thanks for your reply.
The zip file I have is GL_HYDRACORE_v5-4_STD.zip.
Since, I've no interest in over clocking, it doesn't sound as if there is any reason to re-install this Kernel and nokiamodeln91 says it will cause the phone not to boot anyway.
I just thought having read the claims made by the develope about it being compatible with ANY ROM and all that, that it might offer some advantage if I want to change ROM later.
You mention Phillz Is7 kernel as the only one allowing the multi-window feature to work. Didn't know I hadn't got MW (Duhh!). So would you recommend installing that to make that feature work? I'll do some reading up about that kernel after this.
Thanks again.

Which kernel you are currently on? If you haven't installed any kernel manually, that means you already have Philz kernel, which comes by default with Ultimate JB v4..
Yes, of course, you're right. I just didn't recognise the name of the Kernel. Sorry.

Thanks. All working fine.
Hi All,
I'm pretty new to the N7000 party (yes, so late in the N7000 life...) But hey, I upgraded from my dead ZTE Blade to this, and totally loving the device... So anyway, I am new around here, and forum user DaedRic (if ya see this, please by all means chip in..) has been an absolute star... and has talked me through some good advice, do's/dont's with the N7000.
As I am late to this party, I still however would like to see what GB was like on the N7000... but all of this info seems to be dead/burried, or some say is unsafe? (yet I thought that only applied to ICS Stock?).
So was wondering guys, what kernels and roms you use, esp with GB?
I've found kernels for CM9, CM10, TW / ASOP / AOKP in the name of HydroCore v7
Philz for ICS TW
Assylum for Android 4.3
But yeah, what Kernel or Rom would ya suggest for GB please??
Many thanks, Lister
