[Q] The best gps - LG Optimus 2x

Hi all, i wanted to ask which is the best rom for gps navigation because i will travel and i need the best gps rom could anyone help me ?

For what I know the thing that affects GPS is the baseband, ril & kernel. Not really about the rom itself.

I use temasek rom and kernel. Gps works great, very fast fix!

Sygic 11.2.6. been using it since i got my phone. Great

its important to use mobile data for A-GPS for quick fix.
and i use navigon, its very good navigation software.

i would also suggest you Sygic (3d, new maps, high quality), as well as FasterGps (by Dominik Schürmann, creator of AdAway)
In addition, you can also use GpsFix by Android Labs for a faster gps fix

I use sygic too and am so far pleased. If you have a car charger use it or change the settings for better performance (more battery drain but lot faster). It is the default profil if the phone is charging. I don't use A-gps cause the data over mobile network is still expensive here in Greece!

Thanks everyone for the reply! I just installed Sygic and it's wonderful. Thanks.

[Q] Problem with Milestone GPS - CM7

Hi all,
I'm facing a terrible problem that i could only realize this weekend when i had to travel to a far place that made me use my GPS for real.
I could only use it for like 10 to 20 min max... the phone gets the hell of hot and then hot reboots. After that i can use GPS no more that 5 to 10 min that it hot reboots again and again.
I use MOTONAV as my GPS app and also using latest CM7 rom.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
W.F

See the Motonav/iGo related comments here: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod4milestone/issues/detail?id=438
E.g. the Sygic Mobile Maps 10 v.8.24 works perfectly on CM7 for Milestone.

For me the problem persists; I think the GPS just reports too many connection drops, and this finally stalls the software (google maps, motonav, mytracks...).
I have found different software packages to present different behavior.
I have trouble running for example IGO and Mireo Don't Panic (I have to note though that mireo sometimes runs for more than 2 hours before crashing and rebooting the device).
So far the software I have found to be trouble free is Copilot.

There is no relation between rooting the phone and gps...
1.Whats your firmware??
2.Is your gps working all the time before rooting?
3.Did you tried any gps tweaking softwares?
Worth trying a factory reset.

Use GPS aids and Faster Fix Software to tweak your GPS settings.
As you are getting GPS earlier, better you can wait for one more day checking the GPS before going for software tweaks. It may be due to bad weather or some other problem.

Best gps in a rom goes to...

Hey guys! I'm looking for some words of wisdom as far as GPS is concerned. How can I maximize performance? What works best for you? I have gone through many a Rom and it all seems rather blase. I'm running cyanogenmod RC and its not bad...but you know.
Best GPS I've had to be honest was stock Ginger from att (Shock! Awe!)

I also have problems with GPS. However it also seems my compass is not exactly correct and unstable. There seems to be some correlation. How accurate is your compass?

Haven't tested compass yet.
Progress with gps testing:
Tried several radios without wiping the cache first (no help with gps, wifi&data ok)
Now using nexus radio kb3, seems to work , have to test some more
KB3 (and KF1) also fixed the "always roaming" problem.
To get kb3 to function, had to (wipe cache +)flash kf1 first, reboot, (wipe cache+) flash kb3
At this point, the key for successful gps is to wipe cache prior flashing radio (modem)
Hi, tried your way also but no luck so far. Still think that the compass is of influence. Sometimes GPS works and then suddenly compass becomes unstable and is deviating and at the same time the GPS looses fix but still has satellites in view. I am getting desperate. will try some more.
Btw I am on titanium rom

ok, too bad . I'm not totally satisfied in the way things work just now but at least i can drive with waze on for 10km (the longest i drove today). Tomorrow more test while driving to the cottage almost 300km away.
I have had it working on some older versions of ics roms, but really don't want to go back there..

Try JVK,JVT,JW4,JVU modems (from Rom Manager it's easy)
Toivottavasti joku noista toimii kunnol myös gps:s!

Tried. Only with some luck.. GPS gets fix, keeps it for a while then loses fix and doesn't seem to get it back. Sigh.
Think I'm going totally stock or Darky's and test there. And then if things work like they used to, come back to ICS roms.

I'm getting good results with JVT. GPS locks pretty well( tested on bus yesterday).

All modems worked as badly.
Then I changed kernel to semaphore and was able to drive 160 km with only few times losing fix.
More testing needed though..

nice, try also glitch kernel=)
Hi!
I had tried different modems but none of them worked so the only solution I found was to open up my SGS and then do some hardware fixes....had to bend the connection "wire" of GPS. Now the contact between GPS and antenna is good, so this means I get the satellite lock in few second, even indoors!
Just search Google or Youtube and you will find how to do it.
Cleared all GPS stuff with GPS aids (yes I payed 2€ for it but was getting desperate)
and now it has been working just great for about 4 days.
I also flashed another ROM prior to clearing, and it (gps) worked ok after the flash. I'm not sure which or both did the trick but now it's working..
I'm currently on slim ICS and my modem is JW4.

ICS gps worse than GB

Hi,I've updated my note to latest ics lpy..
I noticed gps isn't as precise as it was in GB.
I always lock 2 sats less than GB and the track are not good as GB.
Did anyone niticed that?
thank you!
What GPS app are you using? I have noticed no difference in performance, I still get a lighting fast lock in any app I use so much so I show off indoors with the Note's great GPS ability.
GPS working fine on my lpy Note, but in the beginning i have problem with lock, after restart Note everything is ok.

I'm using oruxmaps to record tracks.I did the same journey and ICS tracks are less precise.
Also in gpstest shown satellites in ICS are 14 instead of 17 in GB..also the precision in ics is always switching among 6-8-12 meters and in gb in constantly 5 meters..
what is the best precision you can get in ics using gpstest?
thank you
Yep you are right 8-12 metres, 14 satellites v/u. 10 minute test. No clouds,

even the tracklogs are not so good as GB..
does anybody know why?
maybe something to change in the settings?
I use gps very often,if there isn't a solution I'll go back to GB..
Maybe try LPF rom?
