We can many find impressive custom kernel like franco kernel or speedmod in Note. I want to flash one of those great kernel, but just in case, I want to back up my stock kernel because maybe I need to flash It back. Could you tell how to back up my stock kernel and flash my phone back to STOCK kernel ? I have Mobile Odin but never used It yet. I think this thread is about ROM not Kernel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Thank you
PS :I use N7000DXLP9
As far as I know you cant backup just the kernel. But you can download it from one of the threads in development section if you ever need it again.
Does install ROM from this thread through Mobile Odin

Will bring my phone to stock kernel ? I think ROM and Kernel is different think in Android because we ROM (for example CM 9) can be flashed with different kernel.
Yes installing one of the roms you linked will also install a stock kernel.

You can try ChainFire's CF-Root kernel. That's about as closest as you can, in getting back your stock kernel without flashing back the whole ROM itself.
still the answer is not clear !
would any professional help us ?

Yes, stock kernel can alone be flashed without flashing the whole rom, you can download your stock kernel from this thread and then use pc odin (in .tar format) or mobile odin (if in zimage or .tar format) to flash it.

you cannot flash cwm recovery without flashing kernel, zimage is the kernel itself.
why dont you download your stock firmware and keep it as back up?

hey guys. my friend has a rogers samsung captivate I896 running stock 2.3.3 . since he saw how i installed custom rom on my xperia play i thought i would install ics for him. i found this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592141 . i am just wondering if i have to flash a ics kernel like how i have to do with my fone. or can i just follow the exact instructions in the link.
i might sound like a noob its just because im not used to samsungs and i recently softbricked my phone because somebody who posted a rom for my fone never mentioned having to flash a kernel, and i dont want that to happen with his
thx in advance guys
yup, root with super one click and install CWM through Rom manager app in the Play store.
You may run into recovery 3e problems, where your install of update.zip gets denied because of signature verification failure; where, in that case you will need to use Odin to flash a kernel with CWM included.
let me know if you have any problems.
so first i try to flash without kernel? and if it gets denied i use odin and flash kernel then go back to CWM flash zip?
Why not just use TRusselo's Guide ?? ---- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19425513&postcount=1

Yes, just like in the Guide link above... with speedmod kernel.
Just a question, for Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 , is there any way that I can have a temporary CWM/touch recovery through stock kernel ( stock 3e recovery)
is it possible or not? can some one show me how or any links?
the reason is, i dont want to flash a custom kernel , but i would like to use sometime the functions in CWM.
TQ in advance

Just flash any GB kernel after that and you'll be fine. Search for cocore 4.1 for GB.

No you don't need to unlock the bootloader as iur device is practically made unlocked. So yeah it is unlocked already. Just flash the official 4.1.2 JB samsung firmware. No root needed.

We do not have to unlock bootloader.
Install CoCore kernel, you will get custom recovery. And install ROM with it.
1. ROOT.
2. CoCore.
For first install of CoCore do this: Install Universal kernel flash, and some explorer with root permissions like Root explorer or ES file explorer. Download CoCore zip, unpack it and use kernel.bin.md5 file with Universal kernel flash. After that you will get CWM or TWRP (depends what CoCore version you choose). From that part you can change kernel by installing its zip from recovery.
3. Download JB custom ROM, copy to phone - and install it from recovery.

Yeah just like shut_down says above..we do not have to unlock bootloader. We can just flash the firmware. Sorry for the confusion.
This guide will help you with the whole process of upgrading and installing custom roms.

You do not need to do it again, but you could. Because there are some other files in that zip - and those are not being installed with Universal kernel flash.

When you flash stock JB firmware (not ROM) you get all stock, ready to pass warranty.
If you want to go to GB, you need to follow guide how to do that. Because you will get bootloop if you just flash GB from Sammobile.

Firmware is untouched system, for flashing with Odin. And ROM is modded files that can be installed with custom recovery. In short.
