[Q] How to from -Stock Froyo- to -CM7- - LG Optimus 2x

Hi guys, just bought an O2X yesterday and I want to be sure of the steps on how to take my Froyo to CM7 or any other GB for that matter, so here's what I think it should be done:
1.- Root the phone (seems Gingerbreak works on this phone with froyo?)
2.- Install CWM (Can install from ROM manager unless I wanna be able to flash from internal memory in which case I should install the modded vesion?)
3.-Change baseband?? (this is my biggest concern, I'm on 1035.21)
4.- Flash rom + gapps if needed
Please guys if you can confirm my thoughts on all the 4 steps it'd be much appreciated
_BONUS QUESTION_
Is the hdmi and camera working completely or is the stock froyo better on those aspects, as I don't see a thread for official CM7 I'm guessing I should just download from download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=p990 ?
Thanks again.

You are almost right there m friend.
There is an unofficial CM7 thread out there by Temasek and MisjudgedTwat....it is more than what you can ever see.For CM7 ROMs, choose Kernels by Temasek or by MisjudgedTwat or by Vadonka.
If you are looking at Stock based ROMs, then go for DjangoManouche1.3 beta16. Stock based ROMs + HP or Gueste Kernels.
for the Baseband, you have to come out with the full version number ...what you have mentioned is not complete.Try V20Q for the BB with V10 series RIL...Normally, CM7 comes with a RIL which is enough. Install GetRIL app from the play store and you can change RIL if it is not compatible. For the Stock based ROMs, you can flash the V20Q Base band + v20Q RIL(both are 725 stuff)

Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer. Now the baseband thing got me a little confused, if I go for official CM7 which will come with a RIL I'd have to install a matching baseband. Can I do that afterwards or do I have to change the baseband first?. I remember with my O1 I flashed a rom and got no service because I was on wrong bb, and flashing the bb fixed it. I just wanna be sure it's fixeable if I mess up
btw.

Look at this thread...it has all the BB related things. You can flash the BB which is V20Q which is the latest for O2X (your choice as it is the service provider, region, device and so on)and this is the best as you will see in the thread which has a poll. you can then flash the ROM with the three wipes...dalvik,user data and cache.Dont forget to backup your apps and data with Titanium Backup pro or any other app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1658047
you can then use the GetRIL app to choose your RIL...which is normally with the ROM.Best way would be flash the BB and then flash the ROM(to save time). Flashing the BB will wipe the complete data. Take a backup through CWM before.even if ou have an issues with wifi, mobile data 3G, dont worry to choose the correct RIL and reboot.
if you have any issues, wipe the three wipes and reflash the ROM.normally, you wont have any issues....just do it...
I am only trying to help...dont blame me for bricking ur phone...follow instructions and we all have a great device...YOU WILL TOO

I know everything I do with my phone is my full responsibility so no worries there.

what i would do in your case is go to the develpoment section and either flash a v20L official gingerbread update (kdz file, you will find an explanation thread how to flash it in there) or download an official froyo rom from original firmware section.
as far as i know you cant flash roms from PC, only basebands/ official updates and so. you need to flash roms through clockworkmod recovery.
concerning CM7 i use nightly builds. they are constantly updated with new stuff/ fixes etc, so its the very latest version of the rom. experimental mod is something you should not care about . and a stable build is basically a nightly that has been picked as a stable build.
cheers

A newbie help plz.

guys,
i successfully rooted my device using super one click.
i want to install cwm recovery.
i tried recovery from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098745 this thread. but command prompt just appearing and closing.
font know whats happening.
and how to launch recovery ?
i tried to hold down volume - button and turned on device, after that my phone got restored, asked again for language etc.
plz help urgent guys.
.
and yes, so big developer support and not a single tutorial for newbie, why ?

now next.
want to flash GB over froyo.
downoaded v20e and all nessesary tools.
just tell me that, in the zip, there are 2 files, 1 is bin and 2nd is fls.
how to flash with these files ?
the tutotial given is only for 1 file and for baseband.
plz help.
k, now flashing v20e, anyone having download link fro v20o ?
that have bin and fls file ?
i got one, which is zip, need to flash via cwm.
I can't understand what you want. You wanted help to burn CWM and now that you finally got it done, you want to flash with smartflash... that will probably unroot and remove CWM by the way...
Why don't you use CWM to flash 20o? You can have stock 20o that way, much more simple than smartflash, can be done without a computer etc....
Smartflash is mainly used to change baseband, or for people that want to unroot/remove CWM to have a stock phone.

Rohan,
Thanks to Striatum_bdr, it is even more clear now. But if you are just talking about the baseband then....read below
As far as I know....there is no BB for V20o yet....this is just a leaked version....I am using Thanatos5.1 Custom ROM with V20M Baseband and 'o' RIL. You can get the RIL by LG RIL Version by Trymhansen or GetRIL(free app from Market)
Hope you can benefit out of this information.
Just a word more: For the V20M Baseband, you need to start from the biggest file to the smallest in that order. The thread for BB v20M is out there...launch a search mate

ok, thanx for reply guys.
I managed to do flashing and updating things.
.
1st i was on 2.2.
tested root, its rooted.
tested cwm, its done, did backup of original rom.
.
then downloaded v20e which is for india, downloaded and flashed via smartflash.
didnt do baseband n ril things though..
.
then tried latest cm kang with irnkernel.
its laggy, dunno why, plz tell.
.
also speaker sound is lower that stock.
is there any fix ?
.
i already asked, but just want to sure : left side speaker is giving less or no volume output (compared to right), one user said there is one speaker n two holes.
then why the volume is not balanced ?
is the problem in my phone or its normal ?

Rohan,
Normally the CM kang comes with 208 BB. U need to check for the related RIL. My suggestion is to check for the Kang CM ROMs of Temasek or Rusty....Rusty's Kangs are very nice. Have used it for sometime before switching to Thanatos v5.1. This ROM is pretty fast and good battery perf with HP 11-R and PP 10lite....if you want any further info....I can help.
For Temasek check this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421425

Rohan,
If you want to test speed with fluidity....(ofcourse all depends on what you are comfortable and ur taste) try to check with Thanatos 5.1....but, if u want to stay with V20E, I would suggest you to try Topogigi's ROM....I used it for 6 months and absolutely solid in performance....Battery and Device perf. I am just trying to try different ROMs but I would like to go back to Topo if he comes out with another MAGIC of his.
ok.
thanx for help dude.
will try soon.
.
now tell me, suppose, i m on v20e, then flashed modified v20o via cmw, then it will be ok ?
means no need to do smartflash thing ?
.
and plz tell me that, i need to try custom roms which are available for my built only ?
means only v20m supported rom will be used on v20m ?
.
also solve doubt about less speaker volume in cm, and no left speaker at all.
plz.

1)I flashed through the Smartflash method....thought it was more reliable.
2)For the V20M-you can flash the V20o, V20L and V20M ROMs. I told the some of the good ones already
3)I read somewhere that there is only one speaker. But, I have to check it and I will tell you tomorrow. One thing which made me turn back from CM was the missing radio....but its speed and fluidity is great too...with some additional features....

So, any links for v20o that will be flashed via smartflash ?
what do u mean by : perf with HP 11-R and PP 10lite ?
For the record: no Baseband can be flashed with cwm please give correct information. Cm7 comes with 218 ril...
I know perfectly that there is no Baseband for 20o see my sig....
Cm7 can't use GB stock ril. You can use GB stock Baseband but you must use a Froyo ril.

NO !
I think previous posts have messed your mind.
If you flash a 20o it will replace your 20e or anything was installed, even Froyo! All system partitions are overwritten during process.
Read again my first post. All links are zip files to be flashed with cwm.
Smartflash must be use for Baseband, and is the only way to do this. You can use it to flash entire stock ROM to unroot and remove recovery clockwork mod. That can't be used to flash modded ROM.
Go slowly and all will be clear.

Flashing HP kernel

Hi,
First of all I have to say I'm really a noob in flashing etc, but I'm trying to learn
I am interested in flashing the horsepower kernel.
I read in the Hp thread that it is only compatible with V20 l/j/g/i/c/e.
I check on my phone and I have V20m...
Is that going to be an issue ? I'm not interested in flashing a custom rom, I just want the extra performance So I'd rather keep the stock rom
And I also have a few questions about the kernel itself. Are there any downsides (apps that won't work, ...)? If ICS is released for the P990, can I just update or do I have to flash the original stock kernel back ? I also read of people that had troubles with baseband, is that something that is kernelrelated of romrelated ?
thx
Just flash the kernel and see what happens
If it doesnt work, restore your backup you made in recovery before you flashed
I've seen people complain that they can't play games like PES2012 with certain kernels.
I think when ICS comes out you can update regardless of what kernel you are using. From my understanding when you flash a rom you overwrite kernel and BB, so if you want a different kernel and BB you have to change that after you flash a rom, but you'll have to confirm this, I'm not sure this is accurate.

The ROMs which have Kernel built in....but then you can also use custom kernels which are used to optimize the performance of the device...and ROM flashing does not overwrite any BB....but yes...you have to flash through Smartflash method for changing a BB. Changing a BB will wipe the data for sure....but then after the flashing ROM you also need to change the RIL accordingly....
If you have the wrong baseband, can't you just flash the baseband that worked on the stock rom ?

upgrading baseband

Hi,
was just about to upgrade the baseband on my 2x, but for some reason it's not working.
My old baseband was 725 and wanted to try BASEBAND 1120 - P990 ( SU660 Porting )
I downloaded SmartFlashTool_P990.exe + drivers and installed the 4 files in order from biggest to smallest.
When the LG logo started to flash (after each SW FLASH install), i removed and reattached to cable+"volume down" to install next file.
R375_SIC.fls
AENEAS_FW.fls
slb.fls
psi.fls
When I was done with the baseband flash, I installed lasted RC of [CM9][ROM][MAR07] Nova HD Plus.
Checked "about phone" and it still say I got baseband version 725
what went wrong?

If you read the first post carefully, you will find that the author describes that he has compiled with his old archive....but that has to be 823 normally. Anyway, if your communications and other radio related stuff is working alright....why think about the information in the BB column.
thanks, didn't notice that.
Still don't know why I was not able to upgrade to 823

This is not true, I think. It just states this for the update script in clockworkmod. The about phone should state something like 20111120
?
What does baseband do?
by changing your baseband you can possibly get better signal, better incall voice sound, but if you don;t suffer from any of those problems than don;t change it

IF your BB and RIL mach, then you might get better batterylife.

No you don't, in some case the author of ROM specify the better BB, also you can use Get Ril to match ril and bb, this is usefull for battery life and best signal too

Questions about Flashing Custom ROMs (Baseband and IRL important?)

Hello all,
I just bought an Optimus 2X here in my country and i am wanting to flash a new ROM, but i am having some questions that perhaps you guys can help me solve.
In my previous phones, all i needed to do to flash any custom ROM was to download it, enter recovery mode and flash it without worrying about anything, but with the Optimus 2X i am a little confused.
I read this post and i have some idea of what the baseband and IRL are. I understand that i just cant download ANY baseband for my phone, it needs to be a matching one with the current one installed on my phone (preferably).
But what about the ROMs? If i flash a new ROM, for example MokeeOS, will this affect my baseband and IRL or those two will remain untoched, so i can just flash any rom i want?
My phone came with Stock GingerBread 2.3.4
Baseband is 1035.21_20110725
Kernel 2.6.32.9
LGE Version es LG-P990-V20f
thanks for the help
You need to root your phone first...then flash recovery cwm....then select the custom ROM and stock our custom kernel...
base band never changes with a flash of custom ROM.....it is only flashed bysmart flash method.
I would recommend you to read a few threads and posts from the developers section....use search....you will find lots of info
Hope it helps you mate
O2X with Magical ROM and supersonic kernels from my buddies
thanks my friend. So i'll just go ahead and flash a new rom and give it a try.
i was worried that maybe some custom ROMs were specifically designed for some basebands and IRL, so, if i installed them, they BB woul dbe changed and probably i would loose 3g, or some other features related to the BB.
thanks again for the info!
Baseband never changes with flashing of Custom ROMs. No matter how many ROMs you flash the baseband remains the same until you change the baseband manually.
But the RIL gets changed with ROM. So you need to check if the RIL that came with your new Custom ROM matches with your baseband or not everytime after flashing a Custom ROM.
You can check this using an app called GetRIL from Play Store. It will check if the Baseband & RIL on your phone match or not and will give you an option to download and install a matching RIL.
Click "Thanks" if this helped you...
thanks, that was really helpful. So, all i have to do now is find a ROM, install it on my phone and get the matching IRL. Quite easy.
thanks for the info!
Yes... Happy Flashing..
