[Q]Network tweaks ics - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im needing help tweaking my network settings i guess in the system build prop. I get speeds in the range of 2mb up to 5mb which i think is great. But i have ping lag 195ms up to 400ms.
I already searched but could find anything. It wouldnt be a problem but when playing dragonplay poker and losing because of a timeout lag can be fustrating
Thanks in advance for any kind of help

I would consider a ping between 200-400 ms pretty normal on a 3G network.

Continuum v6.1

I was wondering how to enable the 3g on my captivate. Im using Continuum v6.1, when I load my web browser it says 3g then turns off n says H. Is this a normal issue or should I flash back to a different rom. Sorry im fairly new to this and I didn't find anything related to my issue in the search

H stands for hspa. It is a faster form of 3g, it is capable of speeds twice as fast as normal 3g.
Oh really? That's great thanks man. Learn something new everyday.

Mobile Data speed on a Galaxy S?

Hello all!
I have a question:
Since purchase of the i9000, no matter what custom rom (Cyanogenmod, Miui, stock gingerbread roms, simplicity, Darky rom, Galnet MIUI, etc...) the mobile internet speed rest slow. WiFi works fine though.
Tested with the Speedtest:
WiFi: average of download is around 200-350 kb/s with a ping of 35-80
Data: average of download is around 25 kb/s with a ping of 350-400
Anyone has this problem too? Or is it related to the phone's hardware?
I flashed multiple modems of the region Europe already, still no changes..
I did a test with a friend. Both at the same place, same provider
Me: Galaxy S I9000
He: HTC Desire
Speedtest result:
Me: 30 kb/s
He: 150 kb/s
so it is not my network, but more my mobile..
Please help me

Are you on 2g or 3g?
Sent from my LG-P350 using XDA premium
Both!
At least on top of the phone I see "E" and "3G"..
Signal strength is good too: around -50 or -60 dbm..
what do you have as download speed?
With E also my connection is slow. Only when it is in H (hdspa) the connection is good and fast. It is the provider of your contract that in your region gives you only a slower connection probably.

KB/s or kbps? IT is a big difference and what rom do u use?
Thx

I wrote kbps that is kilobits per second so 239 kbps is equal to 29.8 KBps kilobytes per seconds.

I thought maybe a type fault.
so it is slow too your phone?
*sigh*
Could also be a hardware defect. Have you tried the speed with WLAN?
hardware defect? How can i test this?
How can I do wlan test?
Go to market an download Traffic Monitor. Now you can check the downloadspeed over WLAN. Do it nearby your accesspoint and you can see, if the modem is ok. If the speed is good, it seems to be an software problem.

Wifi is working fine.. so i don't get it..
pfff frustrating galaxy s...
Ok so since you flashed different roms and it didn't work here's what you should do( at least i would do like that) do a "remove the recovery prior to flash" thing and flash your stock rom( from nandroid of any other way) then try to un- root. If all this goes well go to the place where you bought the phone and tell them your problem just skipp the "custom rom modem and root part" and when the dude that'sworking says "it will cost ..." you show him/ her the warranty and smile
Now that was the best scenario. The worst is that you fail to un-root or to remove recovery (or both ) then go take it somewhere for repair and hope that it will ne cheap.Hope this helped and that you get your phone back to normal soon.Good luck!

Maybe i Will do that.. but i forgot what firmware came with it...
I bought it in Belgium in March 2011..
But sammobile does not say what stock rom per country..

I manage to get 400kB/s (KiloBYTES as in 1000~kB = 1mB).
I'm using my i9000m, on 3G Rogers network.
Could your APN be messed? Your ROM modem?

[MOD]Net >data speed tweak<>VODAFONE AUSTRALIA

So my fellow Australians. I don't know if like myself you experience the following anoying behaviour when loading pages on 3G/HSPDA. (using non-stock carrier provided rom AND modem)
Note: using a T branded rom seems to make no difference for me.
1. Big data Pages load a bit on H+
2. Pauses at some point. Sometimes for more than 5 seconds.
3. Network drops to 3G briefly then kicks back to H. Then finally H+ and the page loads quickly all in one go.
4. Annoyingly on the most data heavy pages in pauses AGAIN! just before it finishes loading.
I learnt a bit about TCP buffers and Kernel parameters that control them and came with this init.d script which, for me has MASSIVELY! improved the loading times on the browser by smoothing out the memory buffer.
Tested on Samsung JB leaks but should work on all Samsung roms... or not work but certainly not break anything.
http://db.tt/rLV1hT28
Hope it helps guys!

So what exactly does this script change?
Will it work on Telstra? And what exactly does it do?
No harm in trying on Telstra. Just delete the init.d script if it's not good.
The script tweaks some TCP settings in /proc which change the memory buffers for HSPDA and other properties I found a good online tutorial and trial and error did the rest... have a look at the script!

Does this work for Vodafone UK??

Hey mate nice work. I have noticed when I flashed Omega v24 JB Rom or any JB Rom I loose my APN,s and when the phone first starts up after a fresh Flash, a pop up apears on my screen for about half a second and from what I glimpsed it said it couldn't get something from my Telstra network (Guess it is the APN,s it cant get). Is this because my Telstra GS3 is GT-I9300T and the JB Roms are cut from GT-I9300 that are not released in Aus yet? When I put my APN's in manualy I get my 3G/GSM internet back but Accu Weather cant find my location and FC's tried another Clock weather widget that I use all the Sense 4.0 style and it can't find my location (Auto or Manually no difference). So I flashed back to Omega v13.1 ICS and all is fine.Do you think your mod might help? PS. I also flashed Android Revolution HD 9.0.0 and flashed his Super Wipe script for a clean install thought it might help but no difference still no APN's.
Cheers - I will give it a go. Currently using Red Bull Mobile Australia which uses Vodafone.
I wonder if this has anything to do with Fast Dormancy as it really does sound like what it was invented for and happening due to your description, If so you might be able to turn it off with the FastDormancy Toggle for i9300 app on Play.
I've never noticed these connection problems on Optus but then again they don't support it but I think Voda/Telstra might since Telstra supports HD Voice while the others don't

Similar idea but more subtle. Keeping data flowing more e evenly was the goal. Specifically to eliminate the long pause and then big chunk download after

Should work. It's just an init.d script. Remove to disable

[Q] ICS - is it worth the upgrade?

Hi Guys,
I want some feedback regarding ICS update. Is it worth it? I am on Rogers (Canada). Any one experience ghost call/sms? How stable is it?
I would appreciate any feedback?
Thanks
A lot of users are having difficulty with the base band working. There's a thread about it in the optimus forums. My son uses mine to play angry birds. Wifi works well. I think someone mentioned problems with Bluetooth connections. As with most things your mileage may vary.

From my experience MMS sucked, the camera was buggy, and there's a lot of Korean bits left in it. I think GB Prometheus ROM has it beat by a long shot to be honest. If you like working on Android you'll enjoy it cause you will be doing a lot of it.

It charges the phone a lot faster, battery's charge lasts longer than before while not using the phone.
Once you have flashed the baseband with the fastboot procedure (because once you have flashed the ICS rom you lose the GB download mode) and once you have deleted all the Korean T, Nate and SKT bloatware, it runs pretty great...HOWEVER!!!
You ARE NOT going to be able to adjust the brightness while watching 3d videos or movies while using the stock player...
You ARE NOT going to be able to use the 3D Converter as you used to with GB because IT DOES NOT TRANSFORM ANY GAMES TO 3D!!!
The CAMERA PROBLEM!!!
Some games are not running like they should (ocassional slowdowns not present while using GB) even if they are in 2D and you have most of the telephone's ram free.
Everything else appears to be working fine.
So far I've had great results with wifi, sms, and phone on straight talk in USA. Wish I could say for Rodgers. There is a thread here that discusses working basebands for the O3D and the Thrill. you should check it out.

Live OC problems

Hi I have Fishear's ROM 13/01 and I really like it....
only one thing : I have problem setting live oc...this happens in evry ROM so that's why I didn't post it in his official thread...
In games it's stable up to live OC 110%....past it the game crashes or it reboots...can anyone help me with the settings??
Do I have to change voltages???
It's normal to get instability past 110%, some even have to go lower.
You might get better results with overvolting, but it's risky and might not be worth it.
