[Q] Forget S Memo PIN Galaxy Note - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I forget my Galaxy Note S Memo pin code. how to reset the pin?
please help
thanks

Hi
please help

Complete wipe maybe but you will loose your datas, or contact samsung ?

first sync your smemo with evernote or googlenote (to backp your memos/notes)
then go to the smemo directory on your phone and delete it.
(need root)
then restart smemo and enter a new password.
This will allow you to use smemo with new lock again.
I even found out, that when syncing with evernote the lock was gone on those notes. But this was on GB, I am not sure if it is the same on ICS

I assume you have root access.
Get a Root File Browser which can open .db files. I used: Root Browser. Make sure you download the plugins at first run. (2-3MB in size)
Browse to: /data/user/0/com.sec.android.app.memo/databases/
Open Memo.db
Open memo_content
Go to C2CONTENT tab, each entry here is a line of your memo. You should see as many entries as the number of total lines in all your memos. Theres your data!
PS: In case the path I wrote above is not the same for your phone, the idea is to find the memo app data in /data/user.

It's very annoying.
There is no way to open it if you forgot the pin.
Even if you don't need the files anymore and delete them, they keep coming back because Samsung server restore the files and puts them back.
So, you can either create a new Samsung account and start from scratch OR use a root explorer (EX File Explorer) and hide the file. It won't show on S Memo or S Note anymore.

[Q] Sending Blank emails when replying

I upgraded to the leaked OS 2.2 Froyo and now I am getting the below issue when I reply to emails. Doesn't happen to EVERY email but several to cause me issues at work.
I am using Exchange only.
I reply to an email and it is recieved but all text I typed is missing and it actually looks as if I forwarded the email back to the sender.
I saw on another forum some other were experiencing this issue but none had a clue how to resolve it.
Anyone know how to fix this? Others seeing this?
Any help would be appreciated!!
???
Is no one else having this issue? Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve it? Do I need to wipe the deivce?
I've had this issue as well when using my exchange.

I had the same issue with email after cognition2.2BETA5.5. It seems that designgears had installed the AOSP email app but removed it in later versions due to too many complaints. I find that the AOSP app is much better then then TW Email apk. I performed the steps below to install the AOSP Email.apk. Replies work everytime without issue.
1.) Get the Email AOSP app from a different rom or make a request and I will happily provide a link to download the apk.
2.) Connect your phone to the computer and move the Email.apk to the root of your sdcard.
3.) Backup your current Email.apk with Titanium or manually copy it to another location on your phone.
NOTE: You may need to backup your phone settings so you can restore your launcher after clearing cache in the final step to avoid having to replace all of your home screen icons.
4.) Using Root Explorer or Astro, copy the Email.apk copied to your sdcard into the folder /system/app/ to replace the current app.
5.) Return to the home screen. At this point you should no longer see an email icon on your dock.
6.) Go to Applications->Settings->Applications->Manage Applications
7.) Clear the cache on the TWLauncher Application.
8.) Return to the home screen and you should now see the email icon has returned to the dock.
9.) Restore TWLauncher settings with Titanium to restore home screen icons that were removed in the cache.

Aosp email.API link request
Is there a copy of the email.API that doesn't have the blank reply issue yet has all the features of cognition latest release?
I have attached a working Email apk to this post. Down load it and follow the steps in the post above to resolve the blank email reply issue. Let me know if you have any issues.
I followed the instructions, however, I did not have a backup of twlauncher, so now I don't have an email icon on my home bar
So put the icon back on your launch bar. It is configurable. (doing this from memory, so i may miss a step). Go to your list of apps -> menu -> edit and you can configure 3 of the 4 icons on the touchwiz launcer (you can't get rid of the apps shortcut).

Alright, hopefully you all are still willing to help somebody else out on this issue, as I am in the same boat as gibgib3. I have followed the steps above using the attached email.apk from f13nd0.
The issue I get is that launching email cause an immediate crash of the application, as well as attempting to add a new "Corporate" email account.
I am not an Android development power user myself, although I've used adb in the past sparingly. I really just am clinging to the leaked Froyo build from October, and just want working email (TouchDown is crazy slow and expensive) until Samsung finally pushes out an official Froyo build.
Any ideas here?

That is the "nuclear option" that I'd like to avoid. While I have everything backed up with titanium, I already am planning to flash back to stock when the official update comes out, so I'm looking to minimize the necessity to flash a ROM again.
I'm hoping that there is some "tried and true" way to swap out my email.apk with a working version, as the previous steps just result in a "Force Close" whenever I try and run it.
So the solution here, for anybody having this issue, is to remove the existing email.odex file from the /system/app directory, which was associated with the original Samsung email app.
All systems go here.
How do you remove the email.odex file? As it is in the system folder, the file permission is ready only and I cannot delete it. Is there a util in the market that you can download to change file permissions?
Root Explorer did the trick for me.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Does the phone needs to be rooted (my phone has the leaked froyo but do not think it is rooted) for the root explorer to be able to change the permission?
I download other free utils that has access to the file but cannot change the permission in order to delete it.
Yes, it does.

Rooting is the key to doing all "magic" stuff like this. What good is a wizard (user) without his magic wand (root access) to work on any magic (his captivate)?

Okay, I finally learn how to root the phone and was finally able to remove the existing email.odex file. Now I don't have the email icon anymore. I must assume you have replaced this email.odex file as well as the apk file??? I tried clearing the cache and everything on the twlauncher and it's a no go.

Getting rid of password on the default galaxy mail app?

I just set up an exchange account on the default galaxy mail app. However, it would not let see my mail until I added a password. Now every time i wake the phone from sleep i have to put in a password. How do i get rid of this while still being able to access my mail.
Thanks
I'm not sure what you've exactly done but, why you don't deactivate or delete the exchange account and only use the normal account from the email app?
Or explain a bit more what's the prob except the password requestions...
whoever is running your exchange system has made a password mandatory.
You can't access email via activesync (exchange) without having that password.
hi rocketpaul,
you can use Insanity hacked email app..so you will not get password policy...
if you are will to use your custom ROM,move email.apk to system\app\ and flash. else with rooted account you can replace email application.

ive tried, it says apk not installed
Sorry my fold, I didn't read exactly
It's a system aplication which replace the original, so you've to replace it!
1) First download a file Manager (f.ex. Root Explorer)
2) Find the downloaded file under "internel sd"
3) Go back and Choose "System" and then "App"
4) Here you put it in and say yes for the confirm to replace
PS: If it doesn't allow to replace a file you've to change the system
-> at top off the app you can change from r/o to f/w

Issues with calendar in gingerbread

Hello,
Since upgrading to Gingerbread I've been dealing with lots of issues regarding calendar. I'm using few calendars in google (private, public holidays, etc.) but when I setup the calendar synchronization I can see only my private calendar and the phone default (My Calendar). I've been reading that a lot of people have this issue so I decided to dig a little bit deeper. Finally I found a solution!
If you have a problem with displaying multiple google calendars in your phone follow this procedure:
Prerequisities:
* rooted phone (you'll need to access system file)
* SQLite Editor
Steps:
1. Make a backup of calendar data (just in case you'll need it in the future).
2. Go to Settings->Application-Manage Apllications.
3. Find following apps and delete their data: Calendar, Calendar Storage, Calendar Synchronization (or similar name).
4. Reboot your phone (not required, but flushing memory is not a bad thing)
5. Go to Settings->Accounts and Synchronization and synchronize your google calendar.
6. Open /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.calendar/calendar.db with SQLite Editor or any other program that can edit SQLite data.
In fact you may use this procedure (as SQL Lite Editor is not free):
krige said:

7. Open Calendars table.
8. If everything is OK you should see a list of google calendars you have. To enable missing calendars edit columns selected and sync_events. Put 1 to enable synchronization and display.
9. Save changes to the database.
10. Go to Settings->Accounts and Synchronization and synchronize your google calendar.
Now you should see list of all your google calendars and you can add events to different calendars.

Thank you for sharing, I am having the same problem.
I have opened
Code:
/dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.calendar/calendar.db
using SQLite explorer but the file looks empty, it shows only "null".
Try to synchronize first your main google calendar. It will create all necessary tables.

I did that, it did synchronize the calendars, I could see the events. I rebooted, used the "Sync Now" function but still nothing. Maybe it's the app SQLite explorer which is not working. Unfortunately I could not find any other alternative, SQLite Editor is not free
I haven't had a single issue using cm7 or regular AOSP when it comes to the calendar. What issues are you having?

I have been using CM7 for some time and I confirm I did not have any problem with Calendars when using it.
The problem appears on the stock rom (both on JVP and JVQ) and is the same skibbi_pl reported on the first message of this post: some calendars do not sync. I have 12 calendars on my Google Account online, but only 3 show up in Settings / Calendars.
Ok, I solved it: the problem was the SQLite explorer app which doesn't work.
I used aSQLiteManager, but had first to copy calendar.db to the sdcard, modify it and the copy it back to its original position (for copying I used Super Manager).
After reboot all Calendars appeared correctly. Thanks again!
The final question is: why does this happen on the stock rom and on Cyanogen not?

Ask Samsung developers It seems like they forgot to add some UI controls for enabling additional calendars.
My sync-problem is that, after I flashed at the end of july to DarkyRom v10, the birthdays of my Google-contacts and National Holidays only appear for 1 year ahead (so till 25 july 2012).
aSQLiteManager says in the column selected and sync_events all 1.
What can be the problem?
x10 2.3.3 calendar issue
Hi, I didn't find any other threads, more similar to my problem. i have an x10 upgraded to gingerbread, since then I can't create any new events. I get an error message: "No Calendar. No calendars available." I searched google to find any references, with very few results. I cleared the calendar cache with no luck. I tried installing several calendar apps, which are supposed to be working separately from the stock app, but I got the same error message when trying to create a new event.
Thanks for your help in advance,
Jocks
Just did this today.
Been pulling my hair out over this calendar problem for the last few days. This method works perfectly on my SPH-D710.
I know this is an old thread but wanted to thank the OP for this solution. I ran into the calendars problem and this method worked perfectly. I used a program called SQLite Database Browser (Windows 7) to edit calendars.db, which I downloaded from sourceforge.net for free. Thank you!
Also, to share the db file I first had to change the permissions from rw- rw- --- to rwx rwx rwx. That allowed me to gmail the file to myself or upload to google drive. After editing it, I had to go through my external sdcard to copy it on there and then copy it over using ES file explore to the appropriate directory. I reset permissions to rw- rw- --- just to make sure (no idea if that was necessary).

Backing up S-Memo

Google sync does not work properly. If there are no memos on the phone and you try to sync back from google docs then it inserts the notes as pictures within notes. After a couple of such syncs the original note becomes a picture in a picture in a note. Needless to say the loss in resolution makes it impossible to read them.
A friend has the same problem so it is not just me. Does anyone know of a solution? The best would have been a folder that could simply be on the sdcard. I love using the S Memo application and just wish they had given some thought to the storage issue.
Thanks,
damn another unsolved thread!
for me syncing with "evernote" works fine, it also gives me the option to edit notes on the pc and sync it back to my phone, it is quite nice as my secretary shares a folder with me and she can send me in real time notes.
Unlike to Google evernote is really syncing, but this means if you delete a not or Snote then it is going to be deleted on the phone as well.

I have found a method of backing up the drawings / text from S-Memo exactly as they are (as in you are still able to draw and erase on them) but the backup process isn't exactly "easy".
NB: Now I am just going to assume that users who are reading this have never heard of Titanium Backup or are not familiar with the program.
====================
To backup S-Memo data:
1. Go into your app drawer and open the file explorer program My files (or any other file management program you have like Astro or ES etc).
2. Navigate to your external SD storage (/sdcard/External_SD) and create a folder there called Titanium (or any other name you desire). Once that's done you can exit.
3. Then you need to download the app Titanium Backup Free or Pro (Free version from Google Play here), Install.
4. Open Titanium Backup > click your phone's menu button > Preferences.
5. Select Backup folder location. Now, using your phone's back button to (suprise!) go back, navigate to the folder you created in step 1 of this guide (if you followed the guide it will be in /sdcard/External_SD/Titanium. After you are inside the folder you created, select Use the current folder. Now hit your phone's back button.
6. Still in Titanium Backup app, select the Backup / Restore tab from the top.
7. Scroll down and find the S-Memo app (screenshot 1 attached below). Single-tap it, then press the Backup ! button (screenshot 2).
8. Done!
p.s. Just a quick explanation of what we did, essentially we created a folder for Titanium Backup to store its backup files in a place that is not on the internal SD. Therefore if we decide to do a full system wipe which included the internal SD (whether deliberately or accidentally) our backup data would not be wiped with it (I think the default Titanium Backup location is /sdcard/TitaniumBackup i.e. on the internal SD for our phone).
====================
To restore S-Memo data:
1. Install Titanium Backup again (remember we wiped our phones, so the app is gone?).
2. Same process as steps 4 and 5 from above: Open Titanium Backup > phone's menu button > Preferences > Backup folder location > navigate to /sdcard/External_SD/Titanium (or wherever you saved it) > Use the current folder.
3. Now hit your phone's back button > then press the Backup / Restore tab.
4. Find the S-Memo app > select it > press Restore (screenshot 3). When you're done you can exit Titanium Backup.
Now here is where it gets interesting...
5. Open S-Memo... and you may notice the drawings / text you have created have been restored, but have one of the following problems:
- Image missing from the note preview.
- Only part of the image is visible in the note preview.
- The image preview is displaying something random.
This is what has happened: The drawings / text you have created from before have been restored, but the preview of the drawing / text has not been updated on your new system (I have no idea where S-Memo stores that). So if you select the drawing / text, it is an exact copy of the original, but you just can't see it in the S-Memo preview.
6. To get that preview back, do the following:
For drawings: Open the drawing > draw something (like a dot) > then you can erase it during the same drawing session > click Save.
For text: Open the text > type a letter or something > delete it during the same drawing session > click Save.
7. Now the preview of the note should accurately reflect the contents of the note!
====================
I'm not sure if there is another easier method than this, but I have been using this method successfully through multiple wipes (I should really stop messing around with system files ) to restore my S-Memos perfectly. A very long, but (I'm pretty sure!) a garuanteed method to work. If anyone else has another method do let us know.
Enjoy your restored notes

You could try to search on the file system for the folder where the files are stored by the app.
Then use a file restore program to try and undelete the files.
ANd oh yeah, make BACKUPS! then you would not be in this situation (yes it is stating the obvious).
I have some additional info for users who update there Note app to the newer version.
You can use the same procedure as above to restore data + app.
Just rename the Smemo.apk, do a restore of app+data, remove the restored app, rename the newer Snote app to it's normal name and start it.
You will see some conversion, then it works (at least it did for me).
To restore the preview images, back up the /Sd Card/S-memo folder before you flash, then overwrite with your backup afterwards. The thumbnails / Previews are stored as ordinary JPGs.
Now if only I can manage to extract that folder from my nandroid backup... :silly:
why not use Titanium backup pro's cloud sync option - you can password protect all files too.
Even if my phone dropped to the bottom of the sea, i will always have my contacts, cal, apps and selected folders backed up and password protected online.
I have not tried restoring S memo data, but im sure TB pro will restore it fine.

How to remove the locked Bookmarks S5

How to Remove your locked bookmarks from Stock Android browser on the S5. This may work on other Samsung Phones but I haven't tested it.
1. Root your S5
2. Go to Playstore and get Root Browser app or a good root accessible file editor and allow it Root privilege. I tried ES Explorer and for some reason it would not save file for me after editing.
3. Open Root Browser app, navigate down tap system/csc/ customer.xml
4. Select the RB Text Editor
5. Swipe down until you find <Browser> <NetworkName>ATT</NetworkName><Editable>No</Editable> Change the No to yes so it says <Editable>yes</Editable> do this for all 4.
6.Save and exit out.
7. Reboot
8. Go to Settings, Application Manager, All apps, Internet, Clear cashe, Clear data. Exit out
9. Go into Internet browser, You can now delete those bookmarks out. You will have to set your home page back up and you will lose your other Bookmarks, but if they are linked to your Samsung account you can load them back up.
I am not responsible if you mess up your phone. Please, hit the thanks button if you used this to get rid of bookmarks.
