[Q] CMR back up and restore issue

Hi folks,
When I back - up a rom i can't restore to it, always ends up saying "restore complete" the phone reboots and hangs on the samsung galaxy s screen for over 5mins, then reboots into cmr with various E: errors, such like cannot mount cache, or cannot cache/mount/log.
Also the rom i was using was cm7 rc10 and when this rom is installed the phone reboots straight into the rom where as it should reboot into cmr.
Any ideas ?
Depends on what rom your trying to restore? And what bootloader is on your device

You cannot restore a nandroid backup from a Samsung ROM directly over cm7 via cwm. You need to reflash a stock ROM via odin first. Then you can flash your nandroid backup from cwm.

flash another recovery hmm like rz recovery 2.1.4
Hi
Go and flash a stock 2.3.6 ROM from Samfrimware.com using odin after you get pass sign from odin if you get boot loop clear data an cache from recovery and reboot if you get boot loop flash the file that is same to your ROM with Odin from here like if you downloaded gt-s5570 jpkt2 then the jpkt2 PDA file
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398797
And partion your SD card to ext4 to be your new data partion and the secondary partion that you must fat if you have a 2gb SD or smaller and if you have 4gb SD or larger select fat32 and the two partions must be primary then pot your SD in the phone and reboot this will make the phone mount the ext4 partion as your phones data partion so if there are a problem with the phones data partion it will make the work again

Restore stock rom and data, stuck on boot

Before I flashed to Cyanogenmod 7.2, I performed a backup using ClockworkMod.
Now I tried the following:
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
advance > Wipe Dalvik Cache
Back and Restore > Restore > Selected my file 2012-11-01.....
The restoration appeared to went ok but when I reboot the device it's stuck in "Galaxy Ace GT-S5830" screen.
Any ideas what else can I do? Thanks.
Are you sure you don't have md5 mismatch during restore??

U Need To Change File System to rfs before restoring a stock rom! Never Forget That
flash any stock rom
enter recovery do a wipe data
Install CWM, Restore Your Stock Rom Backup you're good to go !
or ...
Re-flash cm ... install ext4 manager ... change back to rfs and restore from cwm either way dont worry thats not a even a soft brick

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I don't need to do this anymore :victory:
I was able to get the data I need without using the phone.
I just opened the .db files from CWM backup files in my PC.
But I will surely try this method in case I need it again. Thanks!

NANDROID ? Don't use stock recovery. Don't make nandroid backup for stock rom.
so how should i flash cwm recovery .
and which recovery is best suited for nandroid backups and comptability with all apps.
does it necessarily require me to install custom roms.

I am in same situation with a GT-S5570, it has stock rom and is rooted. I downloaded Clockwork Manager to it's SD card.
Then from stock Recovery manager I tried to install CWM from sd card. The screen got distorted and graphic looked awful.
Had to reboot and nothing got installed.
Tried Odin but it won't recognize my phone while in Downloading mode.
I want to install Cyanogenmod 10.1 Android 4.2........any ideas? I guess I need somekind of backup first, if I mess up and need to reinstall stock? Hard to do with stock recovery mode though.

To make it detect in odin you need drivers... install those by installing kies.... flash CWM from stock recovery only and not by using rom manager....

At least, you must backup your apps. In case you unable to backup your stock rom.

Apps can always be reinstalled in no time I think, problem is I can't install CWM from stock recovery, when selecting update from sd/zip or whatever it says, I pick the CWM file on my SD-card.
Then the graphic gets messed up and I can no longer see the menu clear.

Here you go..... download this recovery and flash it via stock recovery..... its a touch version of CWM all credits to squadzone and of course the kind uploader.....

before you flash cwm make sure its in the root directory of your sdcard... . So to say sd root is to say the topmost folder on the sdcard, which is just on the sd and not in a folder.
without getting odin recognize your Mobile you should not flash anything as if you get in any trouble it would be easy for you to flash the stock rom
and best and safest method to flash cwmr is to flash it through odin
you cannot backup stock rom with cwm recovery only custom one's can be backed up
to backup apps and data you should use titanium backup

Yes you have to flash a stock firmware with odin but you will lose your current ROM and root access
