I was wondering if there is any way in which I can control which apps have access to the internet. I only want to give gmail access to the internet through carrier data. Other apps should only have access through wifi.
You can try droidwall from the market. There are probably other apps like it. You have the option to select which apps can access both data and wifi.

ICS allows you to disable background data for specific apps

Requires root. Avast has a firewall with permission per app for wifi, cell, and roaming connections.

im using a X1.and i can't enter website facebook.com or use facebook application and i can't figure out why!anyone have a solution for this problem????
Does your browser/facebook panel/facebook app return any error message? Are you able to access other sites as well? It may be that your GPRS/3G internet connection is disabled/not set up if you're unable to access the net at all!
I'm not sure. It may be caused by your low internet connection speed.
It is happened to me when I go to a G/EDGE Coverage and it's better when I reached 3G.
If you like to get another try you may try an application from marketplace.
Good luck!
Are you able to access other sites beside facebook on Opera/IE mobile? If no, it's an issue with your internet connection. If yes, try clearing your browser's cache & cookies.
Alternatively, as mymailx mentioned, install Microsoft's version of FB wrom the WM marketplace.
I noticed that within 15 seconds my phone used nearly 2MB of data. I was watching data go up in 3G Watchdog. I didn't have any apps open (other than background apps such as Google Talk, Gmail, the basics).
So I downloaded Network Counter to see which app was using the data. It turns out that it's the Dialer, Android System, and Settings that use significantly more data. That doesn't make sense to me. Any idea why these apps (which I thought didn't use data) use so much more than apps such as Gmail or Google Talk?

Would depend on how often you have your phone synching with google and how many services you sync. I use 10-16 GB of data per month but still have the old unl plan. I also sync 3 google accounts, facebook and twitter as well as doing 90% of my internet usage though my phone. But I know I'm in the minority as well.

Probably there are some apps on ur phone that are set to get updated automatically to newer versions.
Go to ur market app, and uncheck the "allow automatic update" from all of the google/android base apps. If u leave them checked, they would update when they detect a newer version.
u can get the list of all ur apps by clicking the 'my apps' link in market app. u would need to deselect it individually for all the apps.
I don't have anything set to auto update. That's why I am so confused by this. I guess it's not a big deal cause I use wifi a lot, but it would be nice to know why these things are using data.

Hi.
I need some serious help here.
Apparently I have just root my i9000 on Official Value Pack XXJW4 2.3.6 Firmware.
Everything run smoothly and perfectly except one.
I tried to run my apps that needed internet access such as GMail.
While I am using WiFi to gain internet access, there's no problems occur at all.
But when I switch it to 3G Internet Connection, all my apps are not working such as GMail. All apps just fail to retrieve any data. But I still can access and use the internet browser tho. Only couldn't retrieve data from apps such as GMail, Google Play and etc etc that need internet access.
Please help. Thanks.
I'm unable to surf internet on my mobile browser using mobile data on my mi3. I'm using miui 6 stable china wcdma version. I'm even not able to connect to whatsapp and also email (in miui).I'm able to use my mobile data in other apps like playstore, dolphin browser, google installer and also in mi market also.. please help me to solve this. I can run all the apps when connected to a wifi even whatsapp , mi browser , email ..
Using mobile data
Go to security - data used- restrict app data usage then check whether data is selected for using the app.
If selected it is highlight in green, same for using wifi.
This will solve your problem
I have hangouts for personal use, and my company has google apps, so if I want to use hangouts for work, I have to accept and download policies where they get control over my phone.
Is there an alternative where I can use hangouts or any app, that does not use the company policies?
Thanks.
Try adding a seperate user just for work. I do the same so I won't confuse personal data and work data
