Unusual Data Usage

I noticed that within 15 seconds my phone used nearly 2MB of data. I was watching data go up in 3G Watchdog. I didn't have any apps open (other than background apps such as Google Talk, Gmail, the basics).
So I downloaded Network Counter to see which app was using the data. It turns out that it's the Dialer, Android System, and Settings that use significantly more data. That doesn't make sense to me. Any idea why these apps (which I thought didn't use data) use so much more than apps such as Gmail or Google Talk?

Would depend on how often you have your phone synching with google and how many services you sync. I use 10-16 GB of data per month but still have the old unl plan. I also sync 3 google accounts, facebook and twitter as well as doing 90% of my internet usage though my phone. But I know I'm in the minority as well.

Probably there are some apps on ur phone that are set to get updated automatically to newer versions.
Go to ur market app, and uncheck the "allow automatic update" from all of the google/android base apps. If u leave them checked, they would update when they detect a newer version.
u can get the list of all ur apps by clicking the 'my apps' link in market app. u would need to deselect it individually for all the apps.
I don't have anything set to auto update. That's why I am so confused by this. I guess it's not a big deal cause I use wifi a lot, but it would be nice to know why these things are using data.

[Q] New To Android

Guys I just bought my Note 10days back and this is my first Android phone.. I was using the applications (Gtalk, FB, Widgets etc.) through WIFII till yesterday.. Then I activated 3G in my Mobile Network.. Problem is i am not able to use those apps through 3G. When i try to login the application like FB, GMail, Gtalk through 3G it says login failed.. not able to connect to server.. But it works through WIFII.. Are these meant to work in WIFII only or am i missing anything..

[Q] only let some apps access internet through carrier data

I was wondering if there is any way in which I can control which apps have access to the internet. I only want to give gmail access to the internet through carrier data. Other apps should only have access through wifi.
You can try droidwall from the market. There are probably other apps like it. You have the option to select which apps can access both data and wifi.

ICS allows you to disable background data for specific apps

Requires root. Avast has a firewall with permission per app for wifi, cell, and roaming connections.

[Q] Weird data connection problem

Hello!
I am using Idea 3G data conenction (Mumbai, India). I am able to browse on the internet or access/download apps from the playstore. My problem is that some specific apps such as Whatsapp and Twitter are not able to connect to the internet while some like Yahoomail and Facebook can. I have tried all the options given in this list - http://www.whatsapp.com/faq/en/android/22014642.
Please help! Twitter is manageable but difficult to survive without Whatsapp! :crying:

Gmail won't sync when not on wifi after MIUI 10

I'm on the dev rom(non-rooted) and just got the MIUI 10 a few weeks ago and since then the data restriction setting for GMAIL has enabled and I can't get it to stay off...so I only get GMAIL notifications when on WIFI. In Data Useage>System Apps>Gmail on the first screen mobile data slider is on(as are the other two) but when I go into App settings mobile data is restricted....if i turn the restriction off and go back to the first screen mobile data is disabled. Please help.
