Gmail won't sync when not on wifi after MIUI 10 - Xiaomi Mi Max 2 Questions & Answers

I'm on the dev rom(non-rooted) and just got the MIUI 10 a few weeks ago and since then the data restriction setting for GMAIL has enabled and I can't get it to stay off...so I only get GMAIL notifications when on WIFI. In Data Useage>System Apps>Gmail on the first screen mobile data slider is on(as are the other two) but when I go into App settings mobile data is restricted....if i turn the restriction off and go back to the first screen mobile data is disabled. Please help.

Android data useage?

Hi all, I have been using mssmison's Eclair build on my vogue for the past two months, and have run up 100mb+ data useage, where on winmo I was only using 10-12mb.
I have activesync, calendar, and contacts for exchange sync turned on, as this is my work phone and I require these.
I also had google gmail account registered, but set to not sync anything.
No additional applications were installed over the base build. No web browsing or tethering etc, no web or GPS useage - phone has been used exclusively for email/calendar/contacts/phone calls.
Is there any way of finding out where the data useage is leaking? Does android phone home? Is the exchange sync not working very well, and resending/resyncing lots of data? (this is my suspicion based on exchange sync performance).
I've had to switch back to winmo due to the restrictive data plan I'm on for work, which is very frustrating.
Has anyone with the exchange stuff configured experienced a similar jump in data useage?

I would recommend a few things:
-Turn off data via the modem app when you're not using it (which you probably don't want to do since you constantly need exchange available I assume).
-Search the market for a data monitoring app for a better insight on what's using your data.
-Go into Settings>Security and Location. Uncheck the "Use wireless networks" and "Share with Google" boxes. I believe this can cause some extra data usage.
-Turn off Background Data and/or Auto Sync in the settings as well. Once again, you may not want to do this if you want exchange available constantly, but you could try just manually syncing/sending/downloading when necessary to minimize excess data usage.
Hope some of this can help! Good luck.

Unusual Data Usage

I noticed that within 15 seconds my phone used nearly 2MB of data. I was watching data go up in 3G Watchdog. I didn't have any apps open (other than background apps such as Google Talk, Gmail, the basics).
So I downloaded Network Counter to see which app was using the data. It turns out that it's the Dialer, Android System, and Settings that use significantly more data. That doesn't make sense to me. Any idea why these apps (which I thought didn't use data) use so much more than apps such as Gmail or Google Talk?

Would depend on how often you have your phone synching with google and how many services you sync. I use 10-16 GB of data per month but still have the old unl plan. I also sync 3 google accounts, facebook and twitter as well as doing 90% of my internet usage though my phone. But I know I'm in the minority as well.

Probably there are some apps on ur phone that are set to get updated automatically to newer versions.
Go to ur market app, and uncheck the "allow automatic update" from all of the google/android base apps. If u leave them checked, they would update when they detect a newer version.
u can get the list of all ur apps by clicking the 'my apps' link in market app. u would need to deselect it individually for all the apps.
I don't have anything set to auto update. That's why I am so confused by this. I guess it's not a big deal cause I use wifi a lot, but it would be nice to know why these things are using data.

CyanogenMod 7 RC3 mail app

Hi,
I have just installed CyanogenMod 7 RC3 0.07-11.03.04.
Overall this ROM is quite ok but I have one problem.
I am using APN On Off from CurveFish to enable/disable data on the phone.
The widget itself works ok, but e-mail stops to sync data after few times of enable/disable data.
I have tried to do a manual sync but no luck. I have killed the e-mail app and opened again but same thing - no sync.
The only thing that fix this is a total reboot.
Same thing is happening if I disbale/enable data using standard phone menu ( settings-> Wireless and networks ->mobile networks-> data enabled).
any idea somebody ?
br
Have you tried flightmode on/off after that problem?
Has fixed a lot of random data problems for me.

[Q] Offline Gmail

Hi there, I'm still fairly new to Android and i have hopefully a simple question.
Till so far I have used the gmail app without a problem and due to my unlimited data plan I don't care for pulling the email from the web. But soon ill go on a vacation and i want to save a couple if not all my emails on my phone with attachments. And I don't know if that is possible with the gmail app.
If your asking how to save your current e-mails(with photos) but not be charged for data while roaming than you
click the check mark beside the e-mail
and at the bottom 3 options should pop up (archive, delete, labels)
click archive.
to view the email search your inbox for the title of the e-mail or who it was from.
If your asking how to stop photo's from downloading because your roaming then.
Gmail has the option "show pictures" (which downloads the pictures)
just do not click that and the picture wont download.
If you dont want to use data while on vacation then
go to your Home screen
click the options button
then settings
then wireless & networks
make sure "Mobile Network" is UN-checked
then your phone wont use any data (unless on wi-fi)

Unable to use mobile data for WhatsApp , miui browser , and email.

I'm unable to surf internet on my mobile browser using mobile data on my mi3. I'm using miui 6 stable china wcdma version. I'm even not able to connect to whatsapp and also email (in miui).I'm able to use my mobile data in other apps like playstore, dolphin browser, google installer and also in mi market also.. please help me to solve this. I can run all the apps when connected to a wifi even whatsapp , mi browser , email ..
Using mobile data
Go to security - data used- restrict app data usage then check whether data is selected for using the app.
If selected it is highlight in green, same for using wifi.
This will solve your problem
