Hi there, I'm still fairly new to Android and i have hopefully a simple question.
Till so far I have used the gmail app without a problem and due to my unlimited data plan I don't care for pulling the email from the web. But soon ill go on a vacation and i want to save a couple if not all my emails on my phone with attachments. And I don't know if that is possible with the gmail app.
If your asking how to save your current e-mails(with photos) but not be charged for data while roaming than you
click the check mark beside the e-mail
and at the bottom 3 options should pop up (archive, delete, labels)
click archive.
to view the email search your inbox for the title of the e-mail or who it was from.
If your asking how to stop photo's from downloading because your roaming then.
Gmail has the option "show pictures" (which downloads the pictures)
just do not click that and the picture wont download.
If you dont want to use data while on vacation then
go to your Home screen
click the options button
then settings
then wireless & networks
make sure "Mobile Network" is UN-checked
then your phone wont use any data (unless on wi-fi)

Hi
My Tilt automatically deletes emails on its own. After hitting send and receive it gets the new emails and then the old one get removed and the are not in the deleted items folder. Please help.
It does not delete the emails but does not show them anymore, they're still available. Don't know if this is a setting or default.
I am new here sorry. So where do the emails go. I called ATT and spoke to HTC as well they said device was defective. This is my second device this week and it still does the same. ATT, HTC says they never heard anything like that before.
It's not defective. It's a setting. If you use mail from an external ISP you do the setup of your account. In outlook on PC (I presume you use that) there is a setting to keep a copy on the server. If that is not flagged, you send and receive mail on your device, but as soon as you do send and receive on your desktop it clears the files from the server and puts them on your PC. If you then again do a send and receive the mails are gone from the server and automatically removed from your device.
EDIT: Why not using exchange instead. Then you don't have this issue at all.
Yeah, it has to do with over how many days you want to download emails to your device. The default is typically 3 days, at least on mine, so if an email is older than 3 days it will be removed from the phone. It will still be on the main server though, unless you manually delete it from the phone in which case the aforementioned setting to keep a copy on the server is selected. So, in other words, if you are downloading Gmail, for example, if you log in to the Gmail website your email will be there, just not on your phone if it's older than 3 days. Obviously, changing that cutoff date will add or remove more emails. BTW, you change that by opening Messaging, go to Menu > Options, and pick the account you would like to change. Then go thru the wizard, and when you get to the panel that says "Download Messages", change the setting in that panel.
Re
Did you checked your e-mails with your pc as well? Your PC downloads the from the server, your tytn show them only.
so if you connect after you've been busy on your desktop, their gone and can be found on your desktoppc
Thanks Everyone I think i understan what you guys are saying. I am used to a blablberry where that leaves it on th BB until i delete them. Thanks
Is there a setting where i can leave them on both computer and phone at the same time?
not really, just increase the download time in the email settings, but none will stay permanently. (Unless there's a keep all emails option, I don't remember ATM and the girlfriend has my phone). It's a memory saving function.
Enter the messaging screen, tap 'Menu' then 'Tools' then 'Options'. Next, tap on the 'Storage' tab at the bottom, you will then see a dropdown menu for 'Empty Deleted items'. Select 'Manually' and your problems will be solved.

It is not working on Kaiser. Is there any solution for keep emails on pocket outlook when they gone from inbox on sever?
The one solution what i know is move email to the other folder ('draft' or created one) beacuse mails are deleting automaticly only from inbox folder in pocket outlook when it can't be find exacly the same copy on server.

This is not SOLVED
Here si the fix on the HTC and disappearing emails
1 start/message/click email account/menu/tools/options/tap email account/edit account setup/next/next/next/next/next/download message 3 pls days/advance setting/keep them on server/next/ finish
Do this for all accounts
Now go to your computer and outlook tools/email accounts/view or change email account/next/change/ more settings/advanced/leave copy on server/ how many days is up to you
You must do this for all you accounts on that computer. then do the same to all the computer you use to get the same e-mails.
I am actually having the same issue as the person that started this thread. It only started 2day. Ive had my phone for over a year and it was with WM 6.0 and my gmail on the phone was working fine....if i pressed send recieve it got my emails....i left them in the inbox and when i pressed send recieve again 30 mins later for an example my old emails still stayed while the new ones came in. Now i upgraded my phone to WM 6.1 last night and now when i press send recieve to get my gmail the older emails automatically erase/disappear from my phone. Anyone understand why? And yes its still on my regular gmail account...it doesnt disappear from there!
I'm set up with a hosted exchange service with push email working nicely.
Some things don't work quite the way I want them to and they seem like things I should be able to change in some settings menu somewhere, but no such menu exists. How can I change them? Registry changes?
The main thing I want to change is the duration for which new emails stay on my phone. When I get a new email it sits in my inbox for some period of time then disappears. It seems like maybe a week or less, and I would like for emails to stay on my device for more like a month, or even indefinitely until I manually delete them.
I really needed an email today that disappeared yesterday.
Someone help! This has to be changeable...
Try this from your device .. I think this is what I had done:
Start > Programs > Activesync (could be in a different folder depending on what ROM your using) ..
Menu > Configure Server .. Next > Next .. You should now be on the screen that shows Contacts, Calendar, Email and Tasks .. Tap Email and hit the Settings Button on the bottom ..
Under Download the past: try a longer timeframe.

Also I think that even though the email does not show on your device you might still have access to it.
From your Pocket Outlook: Menu > Tools > Search Server .. From there you can use the search to get any email on the server even if its not actively on your device.
How about the Reply To?
Anyone know if the Reply To can be changed while using Exchange? It would be nice to have it look like my emails are coming from my Gmail address, instead of my private address I use with exchange. I was able to do that with Outlook and Pop.
Thank you! That solved my issue just fine.
Everytime i connect to my mail server via the standard email client. Previous messages on my device will delete, does anyone know how to disable this so i can keep my old mails whilst retrieving new ones. I have searched everywhere for this (but ill keep my flame proof jacket handy just in case)

Try changing the Email Settings to get email more than 1+ day.
I have looked through all of the setting but with no luck I cant seem to work out how to do this, is there a regedit for this at all
From within an e-mail account:
Menu > Tools > Options.
Tap on the account in question.
Now tap next (right soft key) Until you get to the screen with "Automatic Send/Receive" & "Download messages:"
Change "Download Messages" to whatever duration you want (including the option of "All Messages").
Now if your talking about a gmail account then the fix is different: Make sure your username is "recent:[email protected]" of course use your username where I put the underscores.
Both of these issues are documented within the forums.
is there anyway to set this up. i hate having to click "download pictures" or "download attachment" when its something i generally do all the time anyways, and being that many people have unlimited data now, the extra data wont hurt.
but is there anyway to set this up in the pop/imap?
with all the views...and no replies, i'm guessing its not possible?
I don't believe at&t's xpressmail has that option... but the newer roms have a general messaging application that will give you the option of downloading attachments.
You would click on menu->options->[ your email system ]->mail filters

not using att wireless xpressmail, not even using the att official ROM. using the q-mobile 1.2, so i'm actually accessing email through imap for gmail, and pop for a school account.
Is there anyway to do it when using email accounts that are setup through imap and pop under the "messaging account"?
Not sure if this has been answered (since I didnt see one here), but during set up with my gmail account settings. There is an option to DL a specific amount of attachments or all attachments. Also the kb Dl'ed.
My only frustration is the auto viewing of said attachments: without having to click anything. Open the email and view pics. - perhaps that is what you're refering to as well.

You have the correct groups checked? (Contacted -> display options -> select your Google account, ensure the right groups are checked)
You may wish if sync is enabled to verify the contacts online https://www.google.com/contacts
I don't Have That Group's Thing, I Used To Have 150 Contact's, I'm down to '97, That's what it say's when I Log into My G-Mail account as well, Wish There was a way To Recover Them, I Just Leave My Phone at Home 24/7 due To It's Battery Issue (Not Plugged in = Not Turned on)
So, I Haven't Gotten To Manually Writing Everythin' down yet...
Any Idea's...?
Well...?
What do y'all Think...?
I think you need to go into your gmail contacts on the web and export to a CSV file to save what contacts you have left.
I have no idea why you are losing your contacts.
