I really don't want to produce some hype out of this, but maybe our LG P990 is also targetted to be upgraded starting today?
Old news: It's about Optimus Vu and LTE. Nothing for our 2X yet...
And the sad thing is that we have not even seen a leaked ics version yet...

Or ask too much from LG?
It'll be easier to just change phone and never buy anything from LG again.

I would change LG to NVIDIA in the above statement, as none of the Tegra 2 phones so far (LG P990, Motorola Atrix ME-860, Samsung Galaxy R GT-I9103) have official ICS ROMs.

there are tegra 2 tablets that are running ics dude. its not nvidia's fault that lg is slow. although yes, i would prefer TI omap or even exynos cpu in my next phone.

YES TABLETS!!!! is that a phone... no it isn't.
chances that LG will ship ICS update to O2X
With the current phase manufacturers are shipping out devices I simply can't believe that LG would be putting any effort to upgrade Optimus 2X to ICS in Q3/2012.
They will have already too many devices announced/in the pipeline at Q3/2012 where they will focus their development resources that they will not definitely to sacrifice any resources to platform they will not use anymore. And that's sad & irresponsible and eventually this kind of behavior will really hurt the whole Android story. Too many manufacturers are selling stuff they will discontinue supporting while people are still on the contract with their carriers. And honestly HW on Optimus 2x could live for ages if you just look on the HW spec.

I'm a bit concerned about the future of this phone.
1. From what I understand, Android doesn't take full advantage of dual cores before version 2.4, do you think 2X will get an update?
2. I've seen news about the Tegra 3 being just around the corner, is there any chance they'll put more focus on that and stop optimizing games and apps for the Tegra 2?
I'm no expert, and don't know a lot about the Tegra chipsets (or chipsets in general) so some info would be nice.
What do you think, is there a bright future for the Optimus 2X?

The user response for this product will show how bright future it has, from what I see many people are interested in it, including Paul O'Brien
It should certainly get the next update, and remember that Tegra 2 is going into a lot of tablets at the moment as well. This phone should be fairly future-proof.

The Tegra 2 was presented a year ago and it's just now that it's actually coming in devices so I wouldn't expect any Tegra 3 until spring 2012 as the earliest.

Yep, will be cool to have Modaco Custom ROM and Modaco Custom Kernel
Tegra 3 (Quad Core Kal-el) has been announced for tablets in Q4 2011.
I think it's pretty safe to say that it'll be delayed just like Tegra 2 until Q1/Q2 2012. Manufacturers and NVIDIA will want to get the most they can out of dual core first, before they introduce new technology into the market, as it'll just cannibalize their own sales.
It was really a very good future if updated because tegra 2 is very powerful
According to the danish lg site, under FAQ of the LG Optimus 2x, they say that it'll be out in june/july 2011. So that seems to be as official they have stated a release date yet
If that's real, than it's a real shame. 6 months to get GB working on their flagship device seems really lame and only shows LG inability to give the updates in a timely manner. In June Android 2.4 will be already launched.
Yeah this sucks ballzzzz
Yeah it seems to be true, but have only been posted (as far as I have checked) on the Scandinavian sites for Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
I also made this post about it (maybe in the wrong section) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034970

oh my goodness when is the cyanogen gingerbread update .........
hehe who cares? I only care about CM7
The problem is there are a lot of fixes needed even within the LG Android 2.2.2, it's not all about providing GB. The stock LG software is subpar in my oppinion and the problems signaled here and on other forums needs to be addressed by LG hopefully before June.
[email protected], CM7 would be nice but for O2X is in a far from usable state.
If LG launch the 2.3 with the know how demonstrated on 2.2... I don't see how this is a good news...
CM7 is all that mater
maybe LG is waiting for cm7, and get the idea from it
I absolutely agree with the statement "Who cares, I just want CM7".
Then again, LG having the low-level dev access that they have (drivers and whatnot), isn't much easier for them to dev the update than for us to dev CM7? Moreover, wouldn't it be much easier to port CM7 if we had an LG 2.3 ROM?
Cheers.
Shame I switched from Samsung after month of **** firmwares and now the same on lg - now I really consider apple - they know hot to build a kernel to use the hardware
google and android is as it seems incapable of delivereing a kernel for single or dual core
the always bring out new phones and none run well

I kind of like LG for the speed, is much faster than the Galaxy S no matter what kernel you had on it, but O2X has other problems like the poor audio quality in calls and still the software doesn't feel like it's the final version, more like a test one. I agree we should expect more because the super fast hardware is there. It's a reality manufacturers don't care about that, they act like sell only the hardware and after that, they wash their hands. At least Samsung continue to support the Galaxy S which will have GB within weeks and in the meantime we have to wait until summer to get our port on O2X. I would never buy Apple, they sell just boring super expensive and locked products, that are still owned by them even after they sell them to you. If you want Android without headaches, the best bet is on the Nexus Phones. But, in the end, you can't have everything I guess...
Wow, that was long... what are we talking about here?
Sounds like the email I recived from LG Sweden this monday which said their devs had started to work on 2.3...... but what...started? Hasn't 2.3 been out for a while??

Try the Nexus S, being just a single core hummingbird processor, the thing flies
LG Optimus 2x have the potential to be faster then the Nexus S, all you need is just to wait until more developers use the phone
Anyone wanna guess the delay duration?
LG plans to begin upgrading its portfolio of Android handsets to Ice Cream Sandwich in the second quarter of next year, the company has just announced. Among the first phones to benefit from Android 4.0 will be the Optimus 2X, which launched as the world's first dual-core smartphone earlier this year, the recent Optimus LTE, and the upcoming Prada Phone. They'll be followed by the Optimus 3D, Optimus Black, Optimus Big, and a couple of other handsets in Q3 of 2012. Not exactly the most aggressive rollout roadmap in the world, but we'd rather see the ICS upgrade happen later than never.
Importantly, LG continues to make no mention of the American variants of these phones — such as the T-Mobile G2x or the AT&T Thrill 4G and Nitro HD — what their fate will be remains to be seen.

Good news, screw the american versions, they need to be updated by their carriers anyway.
Just wish nvidia would released their crap so the dev community can make a decent ICS release NOAW.
Q2...yes...
BUT Q2 for LG's calendar, not the Gregorian calendar.
finally, i hope so, it wouldnt late Q3.
From LG Mobile facebook page:
During the second quarter of 2012 upgrades will begin for the following smartphone models: the LG Optimus LTE, Prada phone by LG 3.0, the LG Optimus 2X, the LG Optimus Sol, the LG my Touch Q and the LG Eclipse. These upgrades will be followed by upgrades for the following smartphone models during the third quarter of 2012: the LG Optimus 3D, the LG Optimus Black, the LG Optimus Big, the LG Optimus Q2 and the LG Optimus EX.

I seriously doubt cm is going to release ICS for us untill its already out.
Maybe yes, maybe now. It can be the same situation as with Gingerbread. CM was provided before the official release.
The situation might be worse since we need LG for the camera and Nvidia source (or binaries that help... not 100% sure on that). An LG leaked build may help to a very limited extent. Until then it's just a waiting game.

Hello!
Yes, Jelly Bean will be most probably out by then and the next generation Google phone with it...
I am confident that the Cyanogenmod Team will be faster than LG and ICS/CM9 will be released by Q2/2012
I am also sure that LG will release its ICS build no earlier than late Q3 to Q4/2012 – but I would be very happy if I am wrong and LG can pull its stuff together and get ICS out as announced…
But all of this is of course IMHO.
that's very cute, I'll expect the ics update by December again

The source for their development platforms (e.g. Tegra 2's Harmony and Ventana along with whatever else they came up with.). O2X has slightly different hardware but this will be a lot better than the nothing Nvidia has provided so far. Though, given the lack of camera, even on OMAP platforms (TI released source), it looks like camera and maybe a few other things could ultimately be up to LG. Let's hope they leak something early. =P

I think the more important is if it will ever be updated to ICS... Even late 2 or 3 months will be nice to receive the update. Our device goes to the 3rd update of the os and that's fantastic. As probably the last update for it, if I was in charge at LG, I would want to leave a good job done in this device, like a very well refined and stable ICS version. But it's only my opinion... For them, big companies, only matter our pockets...

But i dont think ICS will be late cause they've to make very few changes for ICS. Only big thing is HW accelarated video playback. But as LG uses tegra2, nvidia will provide LG responsible closed source binaries. And LG has very bad reputation about software updates in the past so they wont repeat it with ICS to stay in market

At this moment, none of the three handsets with Tegra 2 (LG P990/P999/SU660, Motorola ME860/MB860, Samsung GT-I9103) have official ICS ROMs.
At the same time, these 3 manufacturers have rolled out ICS updates for other devices, so it's not like they don't know how to work with ICS.
Feel free to draw your own conclusions on who should be blamed for this frustrating situation of our devices. I know, though, who NOT to buy from again (hint: it's not LG).
And before someone say T2 tablets getting ICS, tablets != phones. I don't think any T2 tablets even have a 3G radio, so the chip can be of a completely different SKU and hence incompatible binaries.

Why ?
Nvidia probably gave the sources to lg (and other companies) before the public ics release
It is not up to nvidia to update the device to ICS it is up to lg but they are busier with newer phones
You would do the same if you were owner of lg it is about making money not about supporting old devices

Priority 2 software updates for the new phones
Priority 3 support for old phones

nah I just like your general attitude towards building ROMS for this phone! its great to have a good community right?
I agree though with your logic...its just a truth that I choose not to accept since I did buy this phone nay a year ago for a hefty sum of money. I just want LG to give you guys the sources so we can all have fun and leave them alone (and get me that ICS fun)
Yeah I don't know why LG don't just "leak" the ics testing rom for O2X which I'm sure does exist in the deepest realm of LG.
That way it would get us lot of their back, they could concentrate on the newer phones, and nobody would care about the official release of ICS for O2X anymore
As someone who has had several LG phones I can safely say that once they have released a phone LG tends to stop giving a crap about it.
I think it's not in the LG itself, because no one with a Tegra 2 is not received ICS. Samsung has updated all the models, but it has not updated the model Galaxy R, but we know how well does the Samsung firmware! I think there is some sort of a different problem!
Nvidia probably gave the sources to lg (and other companies) before the public ics release

It depends on the quality of the company, after a very long supported samsung Galaxy S, even when the market was a Galaxy S2.
The company realized the essence of Samsung Android devices, such as to make them attractive to buyers - do quality support. Other companies do not understand this, because the coolest gadget, without the support - a piece of plastic!
