Hello, currently I use my phone with the app Autogaurd blackbox, which records me driving, I also listen to music while doing that. I noticed the music skips terrible some times and thought it was just the read and writing causing that from the SD card, but it's not.
So I tried to find a way to get both cores to turn on and work at maximum capacity while i'm doing that and found this thread.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/18557-activate-dualcores/
Without realising it was for the bionic and not the droid 3, I already put these numbers in my set cpu advanced govenor settings. both the cores run at 1ghz now, but I want to know if there's better settings because those are for the bionic.
Anyone know of the best settings for performance wise on the hotplug governor with advanced governor settings?
Also, regardless of both cores being on at 1ghz each, music still skips terribly while recording.
220+ views and no response? I'm never buying a droid device again. They did well with the OG droid, but now Motorola doesn't care about droids and the user community is the same way, I see groups of people taking the bootloader off the droid RazR, and atrix, but no love for droid 3.
But I thought the bootloader was removed already?
Clockworkmod found a way here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...9tLmtvdXNoaWtkdXR0YS5kcm9pZDMuYm9vdHN0cmFwIl0.
Google owns motorola right now, so why aren't they unlocking the bootloaders?
Bump.

The razr still had a locked bootloadrt AFAIK. I believe the ATRIX is unlockable but I believe it was due to a leak of some special rom(or some such)
Bootstrap and bootloader are not the same. Someone can correct me if im wrong on any of this but the bootloader would allow custom kernels( the deep level software that controls interactions with the hardware). Bootstrap allows us to hijack the boot sequence in order to install custom roms(higher level software that the user interacts with, aka the operating system). However at the time of this hijack, the kernel is already loaded. More info on how bootstraps(2nd-init) works
as for your original question, i checked out that thread and from what i understood on the bionic when using certain governors that the second core doesn't turn on. This only applies if using something other than mot_hotplug. However changing the governor will not make the cpu go harder, it changes when the cpu kicks up.
I would think the solution for you would be to overclock. This will make your cpu run faster. Mine is currently oc'd to 1.2Ghz. You can use the eclipse roms as they come overclocked already, please be sure to read the OP thoroughly, as not all phones can overclock and be stable.
There is also overclocking modules available for some reason i had some issues with them on my device, i had to use a old version of them to get them to work.

Droid 3 can't be overclocked without custom kernel.
I know why they're leaving it locked, to force us to upgrade to a new phone that we could otherwise achieve same speeds with by messing with the kernel.
I now honnestly hate motorola, and can't wait for a quad core to come out for a nexus device.
Its evident companies are dumbing down phones on purpose so that we will buy the next device.
Galaxy s3 was supposed to be quad core. American galaxy s3's are only dual core, while international ones are quad.
I really hate this leash they have around phone buyers necks. Like a car or computer, we should decide how we upgrade the device, not the company. I paid for my device in full, everything inside this plastic square should be mine to alter when I feel like it.

thats not true the OTA froyo from t mobile runs great in speed and battery iam able to get 12+ hours out of it with normal use
Well said joshua to me my g1 is running well with normal battery usage at 8 to 9 hours. And heavy usage at 6 hours.
hmmm... if I'm not mistaken these are the minimum system requirements for gingerbread:
Processor speed: 1GHz
RAM capacity: 512MB
Display size: 3.5"
I'm not saying its not possible... but it is unlikely.
Firefly requirements are for quitters lol
Remember back in Nov 2009 the g1 wasn't suppose to run android 2.0 os??
Early Jan 2010 android 2.1 os wasnt suppose to be for g1?? Android 2.2 os in june 2010??? Get my drift?

lol true, but 2.1 and 2.2 did not have minimum system requirements that were beyond the g1.
the reason for the requirements in 2.3 is that everything will be hardware accelerated, which will be awesome on phones/tablets that can handle it, but wont run at all or will run horribly on lower spec phones. (it would be like trying to run an xbox 360 game on the original xbox hardware)
even if you could get rid of the hardware acceleration (which is likely hard coded into the os) that would mostly make the update pointless, a lot worse than taking JIT and flash capability's out of 2.2
however, I'm not saying it cant happen cause your more than right lol
the seemingly impossible has been done before, and done pretty well
dont let me get your hopes down
I think it would be awesome as well :-D
Yup,but im still going to update to new android phone high end device. Just because adobe flash player only work for ARM-7 processor aka A-8 Cortex phones. ugh adobe with their restrictions.

yeah for real
i ended up upgrading to a vibrant, flash is nice (and doesn't lag like the droid2)
but I still use my mytouch alot, the battery lasts forever on it (especially compared to the vibrant lol)
Which mytouch 4g or mytouch 3g slide?
Im going to get the g2.

lol the original mytouch 3g basically the g1 with more memory but minus the keyboard.
I upgraded to the vibrant mostly because of development potential, its as easy to work with as the nexus one but its more powerful.
the g2 is a great phone though
if it wasn't so hard to work with, being all hardware locked and such, I totally would have gone for it, but I hear its a really nice solid choice despite that
and eventually they'll break the locks I'm sure.
I know about mytouch 3g having more ram and memory but hack g1 is basicly better then mytouch. Same can be said about mytouch being better then an mytouch3g slide when unlock.
I dont like samsung because of what their doing with their updates. Just like behold 2 their taking their sweet time to update the samsung galaxy phone in the usa.
Ignore any reports of system requirements for 2.3. There are NONE LISTED. Any system requirements listed by any website at all anywhere are made up nonsense to support their chicken little theories of a lack of support. For whatever reason, they think it makes them more credible than not having it. Remember that these nonsense websites previously used LIMITED INTERNAL STORAGE to forecast that 1.5 would never be able to run on DREAM. Well now that THAT has been PROVEN to be B.S., they are making up even more nonsense requirements that have no basis in reality.
Hi everyone,
I've decided to start a thread dedicated to my SDK port of ICS. I want to extend a thank you to Joel, who initially got this booting on our device.
Some of you may know that I've made some progess on one of the biggest issues with the port on our phone (and many many other HTC phones actually), which was the touchscreen. I've ported the driver from the Samsung Nexus S (uses the same touchscreen sensor as the Inc) and gotten it to work with the CM7 kernel (from cuviper). And now the touchscreen works in ICS as well!
This ROM is not a daily driver, although if we did get that far it would rock , but since we don't have the source yet I'm not expecting anything too incredible . My goal for this ROM is to get as much of our hardware working with what we have, which is existing files from GB that may or may not help, as well as kernel and driver hacking. Once the source drops for ICS, with any luck our work here will enable ICS to be ported sooner because of tweaks and modifications to the kernel that may very well be needed with a source port anyways. My idea is to get as much work done ahead of time as possible, I suppose.
So PLEASE, do not complain about features that aren't implemented yet, or other parts that don't work as you would expect. I don't expect anything to work as we expect! That's the whole point of this. And also keep your negative comments about SDK ports to yourselves if possible. As I said, this is not to create a 100% functional SDK port. It's to make as much functional as possible so that ourselves and others will perhaps have fewer hurdles and headaches to overcome when the ICS source becomes available. Especially since we can't really expect an ICS update for the Incredible or many other similar HTC phones, meaning we may never see kernel source from them to help us.
Current download links:
Here's the link to my current progress: incredible_ics_v0.01-signed.zip
This is a flashable zip for CWM. You'll need to wipe data/cache as usual.
The touchscreen currently works in "pointer" mode, meaning it acts as if its a trackball/touchpad to move the cursor on the screen. Pressing with two fingers is interpreted as a touch to select things. This is not ideal.
If you'd like to try and help out, try messing with the .idc files. I was able to get rid of cursor mode by using some others from other devices, but the touch seemed very...ehh...not correct. Messing with the values in the files seemed to change how it behaved, but we need a correct .idc file to make things work the way they should. If you find one and want to try it, you'll have to create the directory (/system/usr/idc) and push the file to it through ADB. Android loads it upon boot. Also, it must be named "mxt224_ts_input.idc" otherwise it wont load the file. I plan to work on the .idc predicament myself at some point soon, but I'm still trying to hash out a few touchscreen driver ideas that may be a better solution.
Please read:
If you figure anything out, please post here! Or if you have trouble with something, post here with a logcat and a dmesg dump. They're pretty simple to do. To get a logcat, turn off your device, then turn it on. Once the white Incredible screen is up, type "adb logcat > logcat.txt" into your terminal/command prompt. Once it's done booting you can CRTL+C to stop it from logging. After this, back on your terminal, enter "adb shell /system/bin/dmesg > dmesg.txt" to get the dmesg dump. Grab those and zip them up and post them here for someone to look at.

And finally if you're interested in the progress being made on touchscreen drivers, take a look here. Currently, I'm trying to see if instead of using the Samsung driver, we can use the HTC driver with some modifications to make it work correctly for ICS.
*This is by no means only just "my" port and work here. I encourage anyone with any knowledge, from our device or even others to add to the discussion and help out as they please. I only aim to manage mine and others progress in one place.
*I am not all that knowledgeable with kernel/driver programming and modifications. I'm versed in programming a few languages, but I've never done any system level stuff, and I'm learning (A TON by the way) of things as I go by tweaking and testing things. Which means that I may, or may not know what I'm talking about. If I've provided inaccurate information, please tell me so I can correct it!
Phew. Anyways, please try it out if you'd like.
I also added a donation email in my profile, if anyone would like to donate. I wont be hurt if you don't, but if you do, THANK YOU!
Reserved for future use

Cheers!

Neat! I was wondering what you were up to with that clone of my repo.
I haven't actually tried your port yet, but for the touchscreen stuff, I suspect that the userspace parts are just expecting certain interfaces exposed by the kernel driver. We should know better with full source, of course. But I would guess the right answer will be changes in userspace, because obviously not all devices will be able to have the same touchscreen driver. Well we'll see. Hope to see you in CM when ICS finally comes out.

What you said is exactly what I've been thinking, I just haven't been able to tell what data the Samsung driver is letting the OS see that the HTC driver doesn't.
They seem very identical in terms of the output they generate and where it's stored. Obviously something is different though. And it's really annoying, because the HTC driver actually produces MORE data and is much more explicit in reporting exactly what its doing to the point that it looks very confusing and messy even when you compare to Samsung's driver. I don't think HTC would try and make it confusing unnecessarily though, and other drivers they have written look similar in the way they work and report data.
That said, I've actually been using the Samsung driver on my daily driver install of CM7 and I think it works better. It feels more responsive and can register the pressure of my touch more accurately (feels like it anyways). But it crashes maybe once or twice a day, and the screen will just stay on and become unresponsive. Haven't figured that out yet but it only does it in certain applications.

Whether or not an overclocked device is stable doesn't depend on a random number (like 807) but rather on the hardware – in our case the build quality of the CPU – itself. I for example can't even overclock to 7xx without having my device crash after a few seconds (a minute at best).

The weird thing is that I don't get how titanium backup even works. Wouldn't titanium backup be wiped aswell when I flash a new rom or is that not how it works? Sorry bit of a noob in flashing more than 1 rom.

So this is how it works
When u open tb, go to batch and press backup apps
Then when u have a new rom just install tb again and press batch and restore user apps with data
Good luck

The msm7k in our device was designed and manufactured to run at 600MHz. As far as my experience goes suggesting to overclock isn't really a good thing to do, because, as I said, whether your device is capable of running at a certain speed is dependent on the chipset itself.
I got various reports of users telling me that their device reboots as soon as they open a complex website and they never mentioned they overclocked it. Imagine how much fun debugging was (I literally scratched my head over this issue) until I finally found out it was their fault, not a bug in the JS engine.

Well, the perceived speed of the launcher doesn't make the device faster at all. Your games won't run smoother because you install a different launcher.
You claim that the overall device speed is faster (at least that's how I understood it) and I was simply curious on what facts you might base your statement.
You know, I'm always open to improvements in CM. Apparently this one won't make it in.

Feeler thread for rom idea/ questions on developing from a complete noob.
MP3 DROID
Like many I have moved on from the og droid.
Like many I use the og droid as strictly mp3 and media.
just a modified rom to work best as a mp3 player. i have been working on perfecting the art of music player on my droid for a while now and I want to share my results. i think i came up with a wining combination of mods, apps, and software removals.
I want to share that sucess but I am a complete noob.
I just want to do something like nlite for windows. I want to do some basic things to a existing rom..
what kitchen is recomended? I have read many noobie guides and stuff and I am not strong on coding.. I took c+ years ago. and only used to dable in cgi and html. what is a good guide for this kind of undertaking?
can some one help me with this. The droid is dead. the mp3 droid will not be dead.

SO mp3 droid is ...
goals.
battle the low ram capacity of the phone.
.no frills or flashy eye candy. simple. modern and so fast. insane fast. you are going to wish the og droid performed like this as a phone!
.so quick and easy that the interface resembles an ipod and anyone from monkeys to grandmas will be able to easily play music.
.batter life? whats that. holy gosh forgetting to charge is not a big deal anymore?
plans / planned
based off of a extreemly fast and stable FROYO version of bugless beast from pete. http://www.peteralfonso.com/
Chevy nova kernel ultra low volt 900 stock with slight modification
all non esential apks removed! I have gutted 70% and this phone blazes!(this makes the big dif in speed)
all phone essential services disabled and striped.
airplane mode with wifi.
only one screen on the launcher (launcher will be zeeam for sure (uses least ram)
higher dpi than stock.
no app drawer
no lock screen
music widget (froyomusic mod) takes up 3 out of 4 rows.
4th row (launcher bar) will list all the apps (will come with rockbox, music mod, album art catcher, opera beta, maybe sticher, listen, tunein radio. I am open to any suggestions that will give the best music experience. streamin google player is obviously out due to most peoples droids not having 3g data. I have tried a lot of music players. music mod is the best on this platform on this device. i would love double twist or winamp but double twist has issues and winamp is just a horrible linux port that will eat up your droids ram like a cookie monster on steroids.
in essence this is the main version of mp3 droid. just a modified rom to work best as a mp3 player. i have been working on perfecting the art of music player on my droid for a while now and I want to share my results. i think i came up with a wining combination of mods, apps, and software removals.
version 2 will be
bb (any fast rom) even more super lightened.
ROCK BOX http://www.rockbox.org/
will be the only thing that will run. on top of the rom.
it will run from boot of rom
essentially a ported rock box player ported as the main os
of course it would make me a lot happier to not even use android at all and get a bootable version of rockbox working on this device. rock box is open source and works on a lot of devices I just dont know what this would entail.

That actually does look quite fast. While I can't help you with developing a ROM, I can tell you it would be helpful to the rest of us if you told us what exactly you did... Looks fantastic
Indeed. it is extremely fast. the video does not even do it justice. I have never seen the og droid perform like this.
as far as what i have done the general idea is in my first post and a detailed walk through will follow shortly.
i will def post a detailed version of what i have done but it comes down to pretty much trial and error
well thats the definition of what i have done and plan to get ironed out into a rom. i have taken all the guess work out of finding the speediest apps, roms, kernels, home screens, etc,
i removed as many things as i could from the device that did not sacrafice reliablity or stability.
i am runing an older version of bugless beast. trial and error has shown this version to perform best on multiple droid 1s
i am running the newer chevy nova kernel 1000 ul clocked at 900.
i have lightened the phone by about 70 % will provide list or possibly a script or both of what apps you can safely remove.. afik
and I am running zeam with settings that provide the least ram usage
1 home screen
no visual effects
full screen.
everything i have done has been centered around increasing ram numbers.s
disabled data.
disabled 3g
set up airplane mode with wifi
removed lock screen
installed rock box port
running stock rom music player which is foryo music mod
said widget.
modified build.prop
higher dpi think i settled on 280
camera button is a hardware play/pause music button (buggy at the moment)
anyway like i said i will post full details so you can do this
or you can wait for the rom.
might be a while
progress with the rom is
downloaded android sdk
donloaded virtual box
instaled ubuntu
(i am runing dual boot laptop with Ubuntu really have started falling in love with vm since i tried out chrome os and os x lepord. i like how you can quickly pop into windows if you need to and its nice that you can setup a shared clipboard)
installed java
messed around with rockbox to see what you can customize visualy.
read about a few kitchens and reading up on how to compile your own rom as well as virtual device testing etc.
this is a diy learn as you go process so might be a while till u see an alpha.
I'd be willing to test this when you have a version available for download. I don't use my Droid for service, just as an iPod pretty much, so this would work great for me.
i would also be willing to test. i moved to a evo 3d but still have the og droid. this looks amazingly fast.

Yes. I am suprised no one has started this project already. I wonder what percent of og users still use it as their everyday phone.
Well stay tuned and i will get a alpha up as soon as i figure stuff out.
Cool, I am excited to test this!
Also, do you think it'd be possible for you to make a flashable .zip or something that one could flash to almost any ROM on the Droid and remove all the phone related stuff and other bloat? [ I hope I don't sound demanding, it's just an idea I had, and unfortunately I don't have the skills to do it myself ]
I ask because while I like the MP3 Droid idea, there are some things I want to keep that are being taken out. Like, not too bare, but not loaded with unnecessary things either, you get what I mean?
I'm also interested in this rom!

This looks great
I gave my OG to my little bro since I upgraded to the rezound and I'm sure he'll love this.
Sounds awesome so far. I've been messing with my OG as an mp3 player since I got my GalaxyNexus.
I loaded PE 4.2 and stripped out a lot of non essential items. I've been experimenting with the different music players so see which works best.
I would also be willing to be an alpha or beta tester for you.
I've rooted, flashed and tweaked my OG since the first week I've had it. It has been the same with my Xoom and Nexus. I'm confident enough that I've rooted and flashed many other devices for family and friends.
I've had offers from people to buy my Droid, but I just can't part with it. It will in my opinion be one of the best phones ever made.
So any help I can give is yours.
I would be willing to help with this where I can. I am not a developer, but I can do some basic things. Could definitely help creating a .zip for people to flash with everything removed/added/customized.
I want see this happen so badly. I'm using my Droid as a desk clock to play music. I am running a FroYo Bugless Beast with everything stripped except Settings, Market, SuperUser. From there I installed beautiful Widgets, Pandora, and Play Music.
Let me know if you need anything at all. Please make this happen!
Looks amazing!
By the way this is the current home screen on my D1.
Running Steel Droid 10 right now with Zeam Launcher. Now only if I can find an way to remove the phone signal on the status bar then it would be nearly perfect.
Just a suggestion, but it might be worthwhile to checkout deadbeef as well.
This is an awesome idea and exactly what I was looking for! I recently remosefully upgraded my phone to the Bionic (which I am quite pleased with) but, like everyone else on this thread, have no intentions of letting go of my Droid Classic. An MP3 player-type device (with GPS - tre' cool!) would be pretty awesome. So, if I can help with testing, whatever, I'm definitely up for that! Except for that annoyingly small amount of RAM issue, the Droid Classic (as I call it) may very well be the best phone ever made.

As a matter of fact, if you can post the full details of how you got to where you are (I mean, what you took out of which older ROM you based this off of, so on & so forth) maybe I could help you with getting it to the alpha stage. Mostly because this is the exact type of thing I was looking to do with my Droid Classic (as I call it) and it works really awesomely well as an MP3 / media player. If I'm ambitious I might even make a derivative with GPS enabled for runners - so you've got your GPS app to track your run and your MP3 player to keep you entertained!
(My Droid Classic has made it through 4 half-marathons, 2 full marathons, and was caught outside with me in an absolute torrential downpour and is still playing media like a champ! It's too good to dispose of.)
Just got an old OG Droid myself from a friend (screen is fairly shattered but it's still functional - the GPS doesn't work at all, nada, no signal ever regardless of where I'm at, maybe the internal GPS cable came loose, no idea).
Is it possible to build a ROM for this thing without any phone code at all, meaning no mention of any phone capabilities, no dialer, etc? I've never gotten into "building" Android or directly creating my own ROMs but the idea of a pmpDroid (portable media player Droid, guess I should trademark that name, eh?) is damned interesting since that's all I currently use it for. I do intend to replace the outer body as it has a lot of cosmetic damage and also get a new battery, generally rebuild it over time as I acquire the replacement parts and of course a new glass/digitizer setup as well.
So basically something like the Samsung Galaxy Players use, a full Android experience but zero phone code - that's gotta be possible, right?
It is still an excellent device in spite of the shortcomings (video formats are kinda crappy, only Baseline h.264 support sadly) but overall it's definitely worth using as a PMP.
I have a droid maxx, but our phones are basically the same and this board is a bit more active.
So I have been holding out on updating to KitKat for a few reasons. Some of which are irrelevant now, but I wanted the opinions of the folk here on some of the outstanding concerns.
1. Battery Life - I have heard reports of way worsened battery life JB v. KK
2. Unable to downgrade - I have heard conflicting reports here. I am on a DE and Unlocked, so I should be able to downgrade back to JB if I want, correct?
3. Gravity Box Migration - I have heavy customization done in GB, and understand a diff module is required for KK... Is there an easy way to port all these mods over to the KK version or do I have to redo everything.
4. Tether - KK broke the entitlement hack, but I think i remember seeing a thread here with a new method, correct?
5. Camera - This phone has by far the worst camera I have ever used. I take photos at concerts and for the life of me cannot get a clear, crisp shot. How noticeably has KK improved the camera usability, specifically for anyone who takes pics at live shows/events?
I know some of this might be a bit repetitive, but I have seen some conflicting posts about some of this and wanted to try to get the answers all in one place

Here are my impressions:
1. Battery life: I bought my Moto X after KitKat was released and have had up and down battery life. However, on 4.4.4, my battery has improved greatly. With a Maxx, your battery should still be good on 4.4.4, but I can't say for 100% sure, since I don't have that device.
2. Even with an unlocked bootloader, you cannot downgrade. Motorola have added security checks and made it pretty much a guarantee that you will brick if you try to downgrade. No one knows why for sure, but these Moto phones are definitely not Nexus devices. tl;dr: Downgrade ≠ a good idea and bricking is likely, even with an unlocked bootloader.
3. I can't say for sure with gravity box migration. Sorry.
4. For the Moto X, there is an entitlement hack for 4.4, so it should be available for the Maxx. Anyone can correct me if I am wrong on that. I don't have unlimited data anymore, so I don't really deal with that.
5. Basically every update has improved the camera quality, and I think the consensus is that 4.4.4 has really improved the camera.
Hopefully that information helps you out a bit in your decision on whether to update or not.
thanks man, appreciate the impressions, i agree that if your battery has been fine, I should def be ok on the maxx
Maxx here. Unrooted. Vzw bloat is down, all is good. Except the boot sound even on mute/silent.
Ah, i figured out the Gravity Box part. Apparently the ability to backup and restore GB settings is a premium feature
Quick question for anyone on stock 4.4.4 is there anyway without root to change quick settings tiles?

And why exactly??
Why would someone who has a locked bootloader, and wants root access intentionally update to 4.4.4 knowing that there is no root method whatsoever??
