Getting the premium pack on gingerbread - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
Title is pretty self explanatory, I just wondered if it was possible to get s note and my story etc. on GB, because I prefer overclocking with the abyssnote kernel and just generally prefer gingerbread
Thanks in advance

Probably not possible.

Not a simple matter of getting an APK then?

No, because they won't be compatible with older android unless someone re-compiles and works out the bugs if even possible.

I can't imagine what ICS specific APIs/functionality it'd use... what's so radically different about ICS that makes it only usable on ICS?

That's a question I can't answer. If you really want premium suite, just get ICS and use a safe kernel like Franco or Speedmod.
Or, use Google to research ICS and GB and you port premium suite to GB and XDA people might love you for it.

Gotcha. Thanks I'll look into the stuff involved ... see if anything is possible
Cool community you guys have here.
About the kernel thing... I am not sure if overclocking is possible without abyssnote

Abyss kernel is a GB kernel.
Overclocking is possible on Franco. Don't think it is on Speedmod. Not quite possible on CM9 yet. And it works on Thor (however, Thor isn't supported on XDA because of licensing issues).

Yeah hence me wanting to stay on GB for abyssnote maybe I will try Franco but GB seems equally good for most things

[Q] CM9 instead of stock ICS?

I lived with stock ICS for about 10 days. I really prefer it to GB, but there are nuisances as well. Like everything getting stuck for about 10 seconds sometimes.
Do you think moving to a third-party ICS ROM would be a good idea? Which ROM is usually the best?
Cassie literom or cm9 nightly.

ICS... I don't think any wow factor in there.. I have been using ICS since its release. Now am in custom ICS... Here are the main concerned for me. (may be still I didn't figured it out a soution)
1.Social network??? No Facebook support for contacts and calendar (third party works good but what is the meaning of smartphone?)
2. Text to speech???? I couldn't find talk back and couldn't setup navigation speech guidance (being a big headache)
3. Smooth????.... Ahhh no.. Not comparable to windows 7.5 or some other low end HTC devices (like wildfire S exampe)
4. Speed??? Yes ofcourse... I can feel the difference.. But I am not a rocket launcher to be perfect in micro seconds in everything.. GB is not less in this.
5. Performance??? I don't think they have used real potential of the processor and graphics
6. Additional Features???? Where is it... Where is it... Where is it....
7. UI??? I can vote here..
8. Memory handling.??? I have used number of apps in GB and I never I got once that am running out of memory...
9. Safety???? OMG.. Definitely no wipes.. Till a bug fix.
10. User friendly??? I don't think anything has improved form GB.
These are all my perspectives... I'm not a skilled user or developer.. Definitely developer may have the fix for these.. But I feel a major update should satisfy a normal person like me. That I don't find in the update and setting up something should be smart and effortless.
Now am planning to go back to GB if I couldn't solve all these.

There aren't any known drawbacks in these ROMs I hope? Heard that not everything worked alright with the early ICS ROMs.

CM9, always go for AOSP. So much advantages over TouchWizzed roms - especially if you look at performance.

I have seen some developers using CM9 rom as base I think... Do you prefer anything particular?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
For me i swear by CM9, it`s solid, fast and most issues (should they arise) are solved within a couple of days (nightly`s). You will loose the S-pen options but there are apps in the Playstore for that.
AOSP/AOKP is also solid and fast but is more costumizable as for UI, but less updates .
I guess it`s best to both try them out and decide what suits you best.

Asylum. Totally lightweight, can be tailored into anything you want, smooth as silk and quick as a lightning.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm going to try CM9 first. But it seems Galaxy Note isn't listed in the cyanogenmod.com supported devices list. Where can I get the latest ROM for Note?

Difference Between Custom Rom And Stock

Hey Guys
So Listen I Have The CM9 Paranoidandroid V0.4 And I Started Hearing About The Official ICS Coming From Samsung The Official So What Do You Think Should I Switch To The Stock And Try The Samsung Firmware Or Should I Stay On Paranoidandroid Which Is Better I Cant Say Please Help Me
Cm9 is ics more like intended, paranoid is same with tweaksettings ability.
Stock is how Samsung intended it. Which means looks practically as previous version roms lol

Its basically of your choice many peoples love touhwiz and more hate it but stock roms are very stable than any other rom
Well in touchwiz you can use:
1.full spen functionality
2.wifi direct
3.and some minor things

Just get urself outta this cm9ahit buddy..dunno y people go for it...it's too risky ****...and when u have really nice stock based roms like crash ics and chekrom gb why go for cm9??bwsides cm9 has microphone bug and paranoid is notorious for nonfunctionality of s pen..
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
I know of the problems and i know the risks but since the official ics is released for GNOTE i thought which is better my friend said that paranoid is faster , im aware off the mic and s pen problem but thanks anyway

If you like touchwizz, then go for stock, that's the only real benefit. There are a lot of problems with stock ics, superbrick bug that could damage your device, wifi problems, general degradation over time.
CM roms including paranoid are as ics was meant to be and very stable. I have no idea what the guy above means by risks? There aren't any, it's safer than stock.
Like I say it comes down to touchwizz vs stock whichever you prefer.

devil kernel

hi....im currently using slimbean 2.4 as my ROM and semaphore kernel. those rom is fine and works. but because i like devil kernel so much...im tempting to flash devil kernel to my phone. the question is, is it ok if i flash devil kernel on my phone with slimbean rom...?and if it ok what version of devil kernels that suit my rom..?
thank you so much for your advices.
I am actually more confused! I am using Cm10 and currently on the stock kernel. I am hearing that other kernels would actually make your phone faster. SO i am really confused which one to get and how would i find the differences between stock and custom kernel?

Just read the developers-thread about the kernel you want. there are many people who have already tested the kernels and tell about their experience!
Hope to have helped!
Edit:
cm10 and slimbean are Jelly Bean Roms, so you can use devils JB-Kernels. Latest should be 1.5.2.

Just search and read. There are many guys that stood on the same edge as you are right now. You don't have to ask again in a forum when they already answered it for another user.
My suggestion: Read about the recommended kernels in the slimbean thread and flash. Or just try on your own. BUT ALWAYS MAKE A NANDROID IF YOU'RE NOT SURE ABOUT COMPATIBILITY.

It is the best friend of every flasher!
But be sure to restore it with the same clockworkmod version. For example: Can't restore a cwm6 backup with cwm5 or lower...cause the system changed.

I wouldn't be so sure... Francesco (Carburano) already said there will be DM 2.0. Stefan also mentioned he will be working on a custom kernel, and I am sure we can expect a new Gueste ROM from him. I suspect Flix123 will also have something interesting for us. So, I definitely expect a good variety of nicely tweaked stock-based ICS ROMs.
As for the ETA, I'd say it will happen as soon as it happens...
I hope too!!!

Lag fix

Hello forum users
can anyone share a recent lag fix for my i9000 please?
i rooted my device and i have got Busybox 1.17.1
kindly regards,
stepan12
Hey,
First update your busybox, and if you doesn't matter, I would recommend you to change to a custom Rom. I'm from the i9001 but I'm sure that in the development forum of the s1 are a lot of tweaks for GB. If not look into the i9001 forum

For my experience, stock ROM sucks and always lag. Ever since I updated mine to Supernexus 2.0 M1 ROM, my phone is just as stable as Nexus 4.
No joke. Do it to believe. If you don't wanna do, then hard reset your phone and format the entire drive. Should be pack with a lot temp files and caches.

You don't need to install a custom rom. Speedmod kernel should be what you're looking for.
