[FIXED] thanks guys
When I connect my Samsung Galaxy S, the computer doesn't do ANYTHING (it doesn't recognize that anything has been connected), and the SGS doesn't even recognize that it's connected to anything. All the phone does is charge...not even a notification drop down prompts me to enter USB mass storage or charge etc. I've factory reset the phone many times (plugged & unplugged), and nothing seems to fix it. I can't find my SGS in the Device manager to reinstall drivers either.
I am running Windows 7 64bit on a Sony Vaio, if that helps.
I've searched tons of sites & forums and none seems to have a working solution...Any ideas/fixes?
I think I found the problem I was having...I was using a Rocketfish CHARGING cable, and although it looks like a USB cable (it connects to the computer via usb), it does nothing but charge...so I took off the micro usb adapter that affixed onto the mini usb charging cable and re-affixed it onto a random mini usb cable I had lying around. And now it connects to the computer! I can now use all the other tutorials fixing the generic "usb driver not installed properly" problem.
UPDATE: I was following the tutorial on http://theunlockr.com/2009/12/02/how-to-root-the-samsung-behold-2-samsung-galaxy/ but when I get to the fastboot part, my phone won't boot into fastboot.... Can anyone help?
download 64-bit drivers here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
turn on usb-debugging mode in settings. you have to manually choose to mount the volume on the SGS every time you plug it in.
should work.
you need to either install KIES, or install the drivers included in the Android SDK

I got my phone to connect & be recognized by my computer, but I can't seem to get my phone into fastboot. Can anyone tell me which keys to press...?
I had the exact same problem. Googled and found a forum post somewhere with the following solution:
Turn off Galaxy S. Connect to pc by USB. Turn on Galaxy S.
...
Yeah.
Worked for me, anyway. Ever since I did that it's been working fine even if I connect it while it's turned on.
EDIT: Gah, didn't notice you had it solved already, thought the second post was from someone else. Oh well.

Use the cable that came with your phone. I had issues with a second cable I bought for my second pc. Changed the cable back and everything was fine.

Hi I really need someones help.. really plz.
Im trying to root my phone because i wanted to fix the lag of it. having read and watch different method of rooting, i was convinced of using the superone click rooting which could be found also in our site. But the problem im experiencing is, the driver i have downloaded and installed is not working, i think. Because, whenever i tried to connect my phone in my laptop, it always say device is not recognized.
i have tried to use this driver (x86) because my laptop supports 32 bit OS
yet, my laptop is still not reading my phone. and since my laptop is not reading it, i couldnt perform the rooting via super one click
I really need anyones help here. Please, please.
Please tell me what to do.
You try install kies for drives? I had that problem too with drivers bcz my laptop x64 dont see sgs, but when i install samsung kies for only drivers it fixed, my problem.

Hi everyone.
I'm new on this forum and I really need your help with my SGS.
The problem I'm having is that I can't in any possible way connect SGS to my PC which is running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.My SGS is on Eclair 2.1, I9000XXJF3.
I have tried various ways on so many forums and threads to find a way to connect with no sucess.I tried using different USB ports, tried changing USB settings from Samsug Kies to Mass Storage to Media Player, tried using USB Debuging Mode, dowloaded latest version of Kies, dowloaded latest Samsung Mobile Device Drivers for Windows 7 64-bit, cleaned PC registry, tried New Samsung PC Studio, did a factory reset, formated both internal and external SD card and tried mounting and unmountig them, basicly I've tried everything .Also there is no USB conncetion notification on my SGS no matter what I do and I've tried using different USB cables too and all of the cables had 4 connectors, not 2.Interesting thing though that SGS IS CHARGING when I connect it to any USB port.Sometimes Windows does detect SGS but it allways says "Unknown Device" and when I go to manually install drivers it says that "You allready have the best drivers installed"!! .I have tried it also on other PC in my house which has Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit with same results.I really do not know what to do more and I'm very frustrated because of this.
I would be very thankfull if anyone knows a sollution to this problem because I really like this phone but I can't update it if my USB connection doesn't work.
Thanks in advance..
Clean the port on the phone side with rubbing alcohol. I think in your case that is definately the issue (usually its about 1 in 10 by the time people post here). It always charges but its really sensitive for the drivers. This also causes issues at every computer you try.
Never hurts to clean it twice too.
You probably know already, but just in case,
the connection to Kies never worked with custom Launchers, like LauncherPro.
It's necessary to switch back to TwLauncher before connecting to Kies.
Home Switcher is a good app from the market to switch between launchers and set / clear the default.
(In case this helps anyone else.)
Ok,thanks, I will try cleaning it with alcohol and will post if it helps

Clean it again and the port on the computer. I used a pin, or you could try a toothpick, with cotton swab stuff on it. Also make sure its not bent.

it is also possible you have a dry solder joint on phone usb or micro crack in solder, this is quite common, take to service centre and get to fix if you are on warranty, dont take no for an answer
Did you try to flash froyo from samfirmware via odin? Got the same problem as you. Tried everything. Phone of my wife had a connection, for me not. Until i download froyo and upgrade the phone by myself with odin.

Odin didnt recognize it too when your phone is in download mode? Maybe try it on another computer who got vista on it and try a older version of odin like 1.0 or 1.3.

Well, again I have tried everything to connect my SGS to a compuer with no avail.
I even formated my computer, tried on a different computer with Vista on it, and sill it's the same response from evey Windows .Cleaning the USB Ports in this case didn't help , all my other USB Devices work properly on all of the USB Ports.Maybe it has somethig to do with branding, because it's Swisscom branded?
I've run of options and really don't know what to do more
Well it's likely on the phone side. If you really want to see if it was windows then you can install ubuntu and try with heimdall but it's a bit of a learning curve. Maybe a local phone shop can examine the port for you?

You're right, because I'm too starting to think that this is a port problem on my cellphone.I'm too much of a Windows person to mess around with Ubuntu and Linux, and frankly I wouldn't know how to use them .
So the best option is, like you said to take it to a local phone repair shop

Yup, I tried installing even those drivers and still no luck. When I connect my phone to PC and Kies, the MTP Application on the phone says "Connected" but my PC doesn't recognize the phone even with newest drivers installed
What are you trying to do again?
Are you trying to flash with or just connect?
Cause mtp can be very buggy and just chuck kies. It's garbage. But I thought that you were trying to flash...
But you may want to try another rom. Did you try to see if download mode was recognized in odin?

Yes, I'm trying to flash my SGS to put new version of Android in.I'm just trying to find a way to connect it, by any means possible.
It enters download mode but odin doesn't recognize it, although I have installed correct drivers for SGS.
I presume odin can't detect it because my Windows won't detect it, and so I can't connect it in mass storage mode.
Hello guys,
I have now tried for the last 8 hours to connect my phone via USB to my computer without any success.
I have read many threads concerning this problem but by now I just assume that my USB port is partly broken as I have tried all the solutions and none worked for me.
I can still charge the phone but windows isn't even showing that a device has been connected. Twice of probably thirty times windows showed me that an unknown device has been connected for a couple of seconds and then the phone isn't connected anymore.
I would like to root my phone and would like to know if there is a possible way to do it. Some say it's possible (depending on the Firmware already installed), some say it isn't.
My i9000 phone has:
Firmware 2.2
Kernel 2.6.32.9
[email protected]#1
Build Number Froyo.XWJPA
I hope you guys can help me, I am getting desperate...
Try this : http://www.unlockroot.com/
Here is the drivers : http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
Hey guy,
did you install Kies on your Computer? Your PC need the latest USB Samsung drivers. Note that you couldn't install Samsung drivers for newer devices like the Galaxy 9000 on Windows 2000 or older. You also have to look for the right drivers for your system. Maybe you did install x86 driver on 64 bit system or x64 drivers on 32 bit system.
Driver solution:
Go to settings, system and look for the hardware manager or simply check the "windows brenchmark settings" (included in vista and win7).
Try to follow that instruction: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542633
Note:
If you have a working USB connection, you should search for flashing instructions because flashing is always on your own risk! It isn't hard to learn but you have to know which risks are there. Don't be scared by faults they can be undone (mostly).
Flashing:
First you should upgrade your phone to an early Gingerbread (3.2) build. Just search for "Gingerbread Stock Rom" or use "Darky's Resurrection" package. You'll find them here on XDA or in the world wide web
If you get trouble you'll get support here but first you should read about flashing and rooting.
best regards
As I told you I think that my USB port is damaged and hence I can't establish a usb connection to my phone.
I tried several drivers, Kies, different settings, simply everything which was already discussed.
My Galaxy will not even show up as an "unknown device" in my Windows 7 32bit (of course I used 32bit drivers).
Unlockroot requires me to connect the Galaxy via USB to the computer, so I can't use that.
Any other suggestions?
If your using a acer computer and you have never reinstalled window than it more than likely wont work. But you can google apps like z4root and universaland root i think thats what its called. Hi Guys,
So basically I have a P1000 in my hands. I was asked if I could upgrade it to gingerbread since it was running a slow froyo ROM from a Portuguese provider.
The thing is, since the beginning that I don't have access to ODIN. I can go into download mode but the tablet is not recognized in both windows ( USB Not Recognized - Unknown Device ) and linux ( device descriptor read/64, error -110 ).
Since I wasn't able to get in ODIN I used MobileODIN. I was able to flash gingerbread and I was able to boot but something went wrong because on boot and recovery I had colored lines. This was probably a bootloader issue since MobileOdin doesn't flash it.
After it I made the biggest error, I flashed thru MobileOdin the Overcome Kernel. The flash it self went fine and it was booting after but the big problem for me was that it changed RFS to EXT4, changing the partitions it self leaving me locked to that ROM since MobileOdin doesn't partition.
I didn't realized the impact of the kernel at the time and I basically killed the TAB when I tried to go back to froyo using again MobileOdin. It flashed the kernel but then it wasn't able to boot into recovery and the Tab was freezed in "Galaxy Tab" screen.
The thing is, I JUST NEED DOWNLOAD MODE!!! I'm able to get into it but I can't get a way to get recognized by the PC.
The cable it self is working since it worked with ADB,etc in the ROM.
I tried many drivers, with and without kies, and 5 different PCs (Win7x64,x32, XPx32) and no luck.
Was able to try other cable to but I have the same issue.
Basically I think I'm screwed! I don't think any of the bricked guides apply to me since I can go into Download Mode! I just need to get it detected by some OS.
Any ideas? Thanks!
Use linux with heimdall.
Your descriptor issue is probably irrelevant, maybe linux trying to mount the SD card.

Not sure if this matters, but I always have this in my machine. (Ubuntu)
create a file /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
within, add these lines
#Samsung
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="04e8", MODE="0666"
save the file, then do a /etc/init.d/udev restart
that should make the device hot pluggable, detected, in ubuntu.

You have to install the drivers on windows 8 according to:
1- right click on the setup.exe then select
2- troubleshoot compatibility.
3- run through the wizard selecting that your application was running fine on earlier version of windows ...
Good luck
