[Q] garbled screen issue? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got my Galaxy Note n7000 international version a few weeks now, from time to time I got this issue:
1. Screen becomes garbled up, nothing readable, color strips all over. I've seen this happen sometimes when I moving my fingers very fast between screen to screen.
2. Turning it off and on would usually not fix it, and it would turn on but with a black screen, I can hear the sound sometimes but cannot get the startup screen.
3. Taking out the battery and putting back it would usually fix it.
I am running stock ICS.
Is this really a loose cable connection? Have anyone seen similar behavior before.
thanks

Might be. Did this problem occur on GB ?

Yes, it happens once. It is random enough that it happens like may be once in 2-3 days, I did not stay with GB for a more than that

Go to service Centre or flash another rom

[Q] [Help] Touchscreen Becomes Unresponsive :/

Hey
I am currently running 2.1 on my Samsung Galaxy S the only thing ive done to it is root it, so its running the normal firmware and I'm waiting till the end of september ti get the official 2.2 before I look at flashing something custom onto it, anyway...
I have an odd problem with the phone where the touchscreen part of the phone will become unresponsive for no real reason, sometimes playing a game, sometimes just sending a text or browsing the market. My actuall hard buttons like the homescreen or volume control still work during this and the only way to make my phone un-freeze is to press my power button once to turn the screen blank, then press it again and slide to unlock the phone, then it works fine.
No clue how to fix this... anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance..
Sounds like hardware issue. Get it fixed
Thanks for the response (know it was a while ago)
I've had the phone 2 months now in a contract with T-Mobile UK through Carphone Warehouse... Does anyone know what my return rights are? Talking to them later just want to know where I stand when asking for a replacement.
Thanks

hello, i have same issue. Did you fix this problem?
Thanks
This comes really long after. But did anyone find out the reason for this?
I've got an Galaxy S that works fine most of the time. But from time to time the screen will become unresponsive. If I press power button to lock the screen and unlock it again, it goes away. So it seems that it is a software problem.
Another peculiarity is that the keys on the Samsung keyboard are very inaccurate to respond to touch from time to time. Sometimes it is just impossible to hit a letter in the mid row and pressing "s" can put "wz" on the screen.
I was thinking to just put CM on it anyway. But it will void the guarantee in case it is a hardware problem. So I want to make sure that it is software related.
Did anyone manage to fix this either by returning the phone or removing TouchWiz. I am not living in the same country as I bought the phone. So returning it for a checkup will take some effort.
For what ever it is worth
I took the phone to an unofficial service center that flashed the phone with a brand new Android 2.3.3 (the phone came with 2.3.5). A downgrade, which normally isn't a very good deal. But the dead areas on the screen are gone. The phone is much more responsive and the keyboard is not acting funny anymore.
So... if you are experiencing the same. Try getting rid of the TouchWiz before you start taking the phone apart.
Good luck!
I get it occasionally but I've grown to live with it, mine tends to be the kernel recently flashed devils for 4.0.3 but after fiddling with volts mine stops.

[Q] Samsung galaxy Note-Right hand corner of the screen is unresponsive.

Hi all.I bought my galaxy note almost 2 months back. This is my first android phone.I have used iPhone 4 before buying this beast.I must say its awesome. However lately i have started experiencing a little problem.I have noticed that at times while typing my note's screen( Right hand corner) became unresponsive. I had to press the screen a lot of times to actually type a single letter( it was the GO button actually.) After struggling with it for 5-6 minutes it started working fine. After a few days i experienced the same problem again.I took my handset to the service center but the screen was working fine then.
I face this problem sometimes . i noticed that after locking the screen and then unlocking it solves the problem for that moment. Is this a software problem or hardware.
I wasn't able to convince the service person that my device has the problem. How can i make him convince and get the handset replaced.
Any help would be Highly appreciated. (The problem area is actually the place on screen where application icon is situated.)
Is the problem there only when you charge it? Because, there are known issues with many smartphones where that is the case. If it is, then I am right there with you, and trying different chargers I heard will alleviate the issue.
No the problem is not when i charge the device.I face this problem very rarely but not when charging.I would like to mention that the charger provided with the device was very slightly bend on the charging end as if it was forcefully inserted in some device.Though it charges the device without any problem.
Sorry, don't know what else to say. Good luck though.
I have had the problem with the bottom right corner becoming unresponsive to screen taps .This usually happens when the phone is not in my hand but is lying on a soft surface such as a pillow. However the minute I pick it up in my hands, the problem goes away. Strange. I had my note replaced under warranty, only to find the problem re occur on the replacement phone after a few days.

I'm having the exact same problem and thinking of taking it back to the service point. However, could it be rom related?
I'm running LA4. GOing back to a backup of KK5 alleviates the problem.
Something else I've noticed is that when left on a surface the application
button rarely responds but as soon as I touch it on the sides it works and when Ialso plug the usb cable it also works flawlessly.
A friend of mine has the same issue, but it only occurs if the device is laying flat on a table which is odd, he plans to have yet another screen replacement but will probably wait a few months due to shoddy quality control.
I had this issue since the 1st day. It became worst during charging. Have tried every old and new rom with no luck. I though it was a screen issue where I even applied much pressure to the affected area hoping it would help but no luck.
But the issue went away after I flashed Abyss kernel 3.9 via cwm. Now the right bottom corner is as sensitive as the left bottom corner. You might wanna try a different kernel 1st before sending to the service center...
If I remember correctly one HTC phone had similar problem, screen was unresponsive when lying on table but as soon as u pick it up it worked fine. It had something to do with screen/digitizer not being grounded properly.

Definitely a hardware problem because when I took it to Samsung service centre, the first thing they did was to flash the phone firmware. Only when the problem persisted, a replacement was given.

shot in the dark here, do you have a case on your note? I was going nuts on the first few days with my note using a flip style case only to find the damn magnet was causing the touch response issues. Took the case off and haven't seen the problem since.
After further testing it seems in my case at least it was definitely a kernel issue with cf-root kernel la4. Replaced it with a different one and problem solved.
Same problem here, put it down and bottom right corner doesn't respond, pick it up, responds instantly like rest of screen. I thought I had some kind of insecure Note that needed to be held or something. Last few days it was really freakin me out to the point I was purposely putting it down and then pressing and pressing and pressing the back button...nothing...pick it up...works with one slight touch, I was like WTF? What the hell could cause that???
Somewhat relieved to see I'm not the only one with a clingy Note. I'm going to wait and hope ICS fixes the issue, if not I'll guess I'll have to learn how to flash.
Right-hand corner of death
Thank goodness I'm not the only one in the world with this problem.
I first observed the problem when i upgraded to LA1. I was loving the improved battery life like a puppy until i noticed the bottom right part of the touch screen was as dead when placed on a flat surface. It started working again after I had picked it up, making me wonder if it had a "Hey I'm being hand held" feature, but it would still trip out when i'd type an SMS or email.
Called the Samsung service center to ask about it. they said they've never heard of such a problem and that I should just bring the phone in for software downgrading since my Note was ok till I upgraded it. For them, it was a firmware problem so replacing it was not on their priority list.
I ended up downgrading myself to KJ3 (using odin) which works fine. Unfortunately, i no longer enjoy the improved battery life or one-handed keyboard config.
No choice now but wait for ICS and hope it works flawlessly.

This is definitely a problem with screen. I got mine replaced an hour ago and did the LCD test. The new one is working perfectly fine (with and without flip case).
Try the LCD test . *#0*#.If the test fails get the hand set replaced.

Outsyder,
What software version are you using?
Tried the screen test and mine works flawlessly on KJ3. Since I'm from southeast Asia, I don't have any other updates available except for LA1 which is buggy on my Note.

Auto power-on driving me nuts

Whenever I leave the house, I unplug my Note to take it along but every time, before I stick it in my shirt pocket I have to turn it off first. That's because it on by itself just because I removed the charging cable. At first I thought this would just be a minor annoyance, but by the time I've needlessly turned off the thing a few hundred times the damn thing really starts to annoy me. And it's even worse when I try to charge it in my car because every time I turn the key one way or another I have to turn the phone off yet again. It's a bit more difficult because I have one of those silicon rubber protector things so it takes a little longer to find the off button. But I like the protection that this cover provides. I suppose I could just wait for the timeout (which I like at 5 minutes), but that would waste some battery power that I may need later. Plus it just annoys me if it is on when I'm not using it. (Actually it is the same problem when I plug it in to the charger as well!). So who decided on this ridiculous behavior? If it is an Android thing - shame on Google. If it is a Samsung thing - shame on them. (If so I might even switch phones ... although I haven't heard of another phone that can compete with the Note). Or is it just a quirk of my ROM? (I only used GB for an hour or so, and didn't have time to observe this behavior or not - then I flashed PA which I have been using ever since.) I love this ROM although I would switch in an instant if I could get rid of my only real annoyance with this phone.

First the silicon protector that you put in your phone because it cover also the power when put it in your pocket it keeps triggering it, its like a hair trigger.
Of course when you plug the charger it will trigger the screen to on.
Why dont you just adjust the screen time out to one minute.
I dont have this problem but anyway, a quick fix would be to use Tasker which lets you easily automate everything in your phone

That would result in about as many needless and annoying presses of the power button as it turned off when I didn't want it to.

That would be great if Tasker could turn it off again for me when it was turned on automatically. I took a quick look at the hardware events that tasker can act on such as:
Display: Off/On/Unlocked
File: File Closed/Deleted/Modified/Moved/Opened/Attributes Changed
Hardware: Camera Button, Search Button Long-Press, Card Mounted/Removed/Unmounted
Misc: Gesture, Shake
Phone: Missed Call, Phone Idle/Offhook/Ringing, Received Text, SMS Send Success/Failure
Power: Battery Changed/Full/Low/Overheating
System: Device Boot, Device Shutdown, Device Storage Low, Locale Changed, New/Removed/Updated Package, Wallpaper Changed
However being plugged in or out is not in this list. So how can it be done?
~Paul
I'd like to know too.
I can understand "screen on when charging cable plugged in". But its annoying as hell to have the screen on when charging cable is removed. Since 95% of the time it's going right into my pocket.

let's understand this better:
Your phone is off and turns on upon disconnected from the charger, or it is already on, but you don't want the screen to lighten up when you disconnect?
If it's the first case, that's weird...mine never auto initiates...If the second case, really don't know what you could do.
If it's the first scenario, maybe a factory reset? But beware of the brick bug and flash a safe kernel first.

Hey there Paul,
Man, that is one hell of an issue you have.
Anyway, I don't have much to advice you as I'm not using PA rom on my Note(for the moment ), but hey.. you said it for yourself that you were not able to test it thoroughly your Note before in GB right? only about an hour before flashing to PA?..hmm... logical advice I guess on my end would be to try to flash it back to GB again and observe it for 1 complete day to see if the same issue still occurs.
By the way.. you have a very sensitive Note there bud.
Again, going back to GB is the only way(if you we're to ask me), to confirm if the 'sensitivity' is still there or not anymore.
P.S. I might suggest to you to take out that screen rubber protector in the meantime also. Just use it 'naked' for a day on stock GB.
See how it goes after.
Cheers!

It's the 1st case. My phone is off and charging. I remove the charging cord and the screen just turns on despite the fact that I have not hit the power button - or any button for that matter.
I think it is more weird that you don't have this problem than the fact that I do. I've googled this and found many people complaining about it, but no explanations anywhere why it works this crazy way or how to fix it. And "Noodled24" who responded to my post above is yet one more person who is annoyed by this problem. I suspect there are thousands more (maybe even millions?), most of whom don't vocalize their annoyance.
BTW I'm being pretty glib with my use of the word "off". I'm really just referring to "screen off" - i.e. what happens when you briefly press the power button. I'm aware that this is not really off in the more conventional sense. If I power down using the power button long press, then no ... I don't have any problem with it turning on all by itself. So if this is part of the confusion, sorry about that. In fact, like most phone users, I almost never do a reboot (true power off) unless something goes wrong with the phone.
And recently I've found some people complaining about this problem regarding other Android devices, so I no longer think that this is a problem just with the Note, or just with the particular rom that I am using. Although I still don't know how wide spread the problem is.

I don't think my Note is "sensitive". I've very carefully removed the power cord many times (even without the rubber cover) to be sure that I am not touching the screen or any button whatsoever. And BTW the problem does not happen 90% or 99% or even 99.9% of the time. No - as far as I can tell the problem occurs 100% of the time!. So I wouldn't call my device "sensitive". I would just say that it has been improperly programmed to work in this bizarre fashion. Usually such programming mistakes can be fixed, which of course is why I have posted to this forum.
I don't think going back to GB will solve the problem. I think the same problem happened, although I can't be sure since as I mentioned before I didn't use GB for long before flashing to ICS (PA). However even if it did solve the problem, IMO going that far backwards wouldn't be a very attractive solution.
~Paul
So you don't have to go back to GB......screen turns on when unplugging my stock rooted GB. I think that is the normal behavior.
I agree, unplugging shouldn't turn on the screen, but Google does lots of things that don't make sense in real life usage.

No water damage ! It happens randomly. One time it happened when i rotated the screen. i was like
It hapens like 1 time in 2 days.

Hmm.. Did it have the problem when you originally bought the phone? Did it start happening anytime after changing something? Maybe dropping it? Something could be loose and moving the phone around a bit could cause the problem.
Turn it on, let it boot, then try shaking the phone, turning it, etc, and see if it powers off. Might be a loose battery or ribbon cable connection somewhere.

Xperia Z Touchscreen troubles

Hi,
Lately i am experiencing a lot of troubles while typing a message or just unlocking my lockscreen.
The touchscreen respods bad, sometimes it starts moving out of itsselve... Its really annoying to work with the phone like that...
Someone facing the same problems?
Suggestions? Fixes?
Btw. The phone is stock, nothing changed or replaced...
The onling thing i did was removing the shaterproof film (and my Sony logo )
Try repairing it with Sony's PC Companion or Sony's Update Service first.
remember to backup your stuff before proceeding.
Do full wipes.

Did you try to shut the phone down for 30 seconds and restarting it, seems to fix many unusual android issues.
I have noticed sometimes that my phone on the odd occasion does not repsond to screen press.
I am also experiencing the same problem.
Did a factory reset but still the same problem comes occasionally.. any solution ?

I've had this problem only sometimes when charging outside...When u feel that the touch isn't working as it should, put on your earphones and look out for a low buzzing sound..if u hear anything, then unplug the charger from the wall and check in another socket..hopefully the problem in my phone was that current was leaching onto the capacitive screen so if I touch just once,it registers a number of touches..hope this helps u get rid of the problem

That may be the solution to the problem you had but this isnt the problem here , it happens when whether the phone is charging or not and I think themichelanne is having the same problem.
Power off the phone with power+ vol up - wait for 1 vibrate followed by 3 vibrates and leave the phone then wait for 30 second before powering on, solved it for me....no problem in touch till now and i hope it does not come in future.
BTW This phone is really really full of problems.
Also happens to me when using some chargers
I bought my unbranded UK Xperia Z in Expansys, since I live in Portugal they sent a extra charger for the european standard socket. I had this exact same problem with it, the screen was extremely unresponsive and unprecise while charging. Now I use the charger from my old N900 and have no issues. Also, charging from a lower volt/amperage source like a computer I have no problems.
Since the capacitive screen is very sensitive, a low quality AC-DC adapter will generate issues (possibly due to the current/voltage not being 100% stable).

Im also experiencing the same problem. So annoying, especially while texting. Xperia Z's touch not proving to be how it should be.
This happens with this phone for me, and previous android phones. Usually its just the app open not responding to touch events, but my softkeys still work and I can force kill and restart whatever im doing. Sometimes I have to reset. It seems to be happening more frequently since updating to 67, but its not often enough really bother me. using a tool like romtoolbox to increase the amount of touch events android can process seems to improve it somewhat.

Have you found any solutions for this? I have been experiencing this since 4.2.2 update. I don't know what happened. Can you please explain what's wrong and what's happening? Have you got it fixed yet? My screen freezes frequently so I'm unable to use the phone.
I have been experiencing this problem since a long time. But I have found no solutions for it. I took out my screen protector and the freezing thing got to normal but still it freezes sometime, but more when the screen protector is on. I'm pretty sure this problem is caused by the screen or the android farmware. I'm downgrading my OS, please reply to this. Mine is C6602. C6603 doesn't experience any problems like that.
How I fixed my Xperia Z5 touch screen
Hi everyone,
So, my Z5 touch screen was not working at all anymore, I have tried every manipulation recommended on the internet but did not succeed to get it working that way.
Here is what I did to get it fixed eventually:
- Installed sony companion
- Launched the "fix software" program (I don't know the exact name of the program in english)
- Followed the steps (took a while, something like two hours)
Then my phone rebooted, but nothing, still the same issue. Tried taking off the sim card, rebooted and same problem. Then, I put it back in the phone, and for some reason, the touch screen decided to work again. Although, I lost a lot of data in the process, but worth it.
I don't know if it is a general fix, but on my phone it just worked that way. Although, I have noticed that my phone started overheating something like two weeks before the touch screen problem appeared, I assume those two problems are linked in some way. Still did not find any fix for the overheating problem except putting it under cool water or let it cool down for 10 minutes.
I hope I helped with my post, good luck for those who are experiencing this issue.
