Are you sure you have the ICS USB drivers installed? These are different than the old Froyo/GB drivers.

ICS drivers... Lol... There's some funny stuff right there.
Samsung Windows drivers haven't changed in awhile for the Vibrant. Drivers are drivers for Odin

It happen to me not long ago, and I tough my usb port was busted, and I fixed with a sharp and fine needle scraping the little usb pads very gently, my theory its that sometime got caught inside the usb port and somehow the cable wasn't making the right contacts.

He must be confusing boot loaders with drivers......I guess
What are you looking at shortbus......
I ended up just using a different version of Odin. 1.83 didn't want to see the phone. 1.3 did. I have no idea why but it worked. I flashed back to stock and then used AIO toolbox to flash root, cwm, and the ICS Gummy.
try to use other usb port if phone not detected again
I recently had to painstakingly cycle through 5-6 different Odin versions, 512 .pit files, and jfd .tar combinations before Odin passed. Had the same previously working odin 1.7, 512pit and jfd in a folder marked "WORKING ODIN", so I was a bit slow to accept that possibility haha.

most of the time i don't *****, but imagine how annoying 3 button combo resetting(including taking battery out) is when you have no hands

Which is why I had to use the drivers for the Nexus from the ICS SDK. When I upgraded to newer bootloaders, the old drivers from the Froyo SDK stopped working. I couldn't Odin/ADB/download mode. When I used the USB drivers from the ICS SDK, all was well again.
I've been using the same drivers for almost two years,Odining from Froyo to Eclair to ICS, back to Eclair,.........with no problem.
That includes flashing bootloaders back and forth, even though GB loaders are backwards compatible.

Keep trying different combos. My computer does that often. If phone goes into download mode it can't be the plug because bumbumbum.... the phone will not go into download if it doesn't get power from the USB.

Because you cant push a launcher or get into any settings menu, my only suggestion would be to flash a new rom. And assuming that the rom you just flashed (being completely stock), you wont have the 3 button combo although I suggest you try it. (Im not sure about the combos for 2.2 roms).
If you cant get into recovery/download through any method, my next suggestion is to buy/build a JIG and force your device into download mode, by which you can use ODIN to flash a rom.
You can make a jig for about a dollar or buy one for about 10. (Best purchase i made). Just take a look around the forums for more info on this.
yes i can get into where it says reboot system now, reinstall packages delete data ya know. not much experiance
and i can still get the usb modes when i plug in usb. kies media player mass storage.just an amature
Not sure if it would work...but odin3 v1.0 had a option for enable debug .could he just do that? Then adb push /system/app/launcher.apk? See pic

Canadian one click using Heimdall not Odin. Good news is Heimdall is cross platform and can be used on PC, Mac, and Linux. Read the thread and the instructions are in the OP. Good Luck!

Be careful when flashing ROMS, be certain to read the instructions carefully and read the thread too, usually you will find all the information you need, any problems to expect and how to recover from these problems. Good Luck and happy flashing!

When I was first trying to ROOT, I thought I had enabled USB debugging but I had something else.
Just have a look for the fun of it. Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging
Well its detecting your phone means you are enabled USB Debugging mode.
Try closing all apps in Device. if it doesnt work at all even in the other pc also. flash again KL3 through odin then try rooting again.
yeah tried 2 others they failed to even get past "starting daemon..." both windows XP, and yes USB debugging mode is enabled!
rebooted my PC and not working, Flashed KL3 3 times in total still no go

did you copy Zimage file to the Zimage folder?? if yes , then try without copying zimage file, coz after extracting "CF-Root-SGN_XX_ODD_KL3-v5.0-CWM5" folder already ter will be a Zimage file inside zimage folder. try this. actually i did it like that way only and it worked without issues.

You'll get root automatically without any flash counter.

You have to put the zImage in the UNZIPPED InitialCFRoot file in the zImage section, not in the downloaded one . So open the downloaded InitialCFRoot file and unzip it first or else the zImage cannot be flashed!

Hi guys...I`m passing through this same problem...I didn`t fixed my SGS yet...I`ve tried any different drivers (samsung, nexus, heimdall, USBview) anything is working
The bigest issue I think is some deleted or corrupted file into the ICS...cause when I star it up at CWM I`m not abble to do anything...always the same error "E: unknow mount/ storage...format/ restore failed"
My last chance will be next week when I`ll go to take it to a Samsung place.

Thanks...and waiting for same holpefull suggestion!

Install drivers (make sure they are the correct drivers for Odin!!!) Which can be found here... http://uploading.com/files/a683d2d8/Samsung_P1000_USB_Drivers.rar/ 7. After installation complete, and you have given Windows time to detect and install the drivers, open Odin. If that doesn't work, then try Heimdall.
