[Q] What is KIES updating?? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well i have KIES installed on my laptop and although i use it rarely it's alway updating to a newer version.
Since i have my phone (2 months) it updated already 6 times (!!) once was for the ics update but the other ones don't even know what it's doing. Since the UI is the same in each version what is changing ??? W7, 64bits.....

Bug fixes of it self(kies) and new drivers to recognize new phones.

[Q] Best firmware (froyo) to use via regedit hack for the Philippines

The title pretty much sums it up. I've been itching to get my hands on froyo for the SGS for weeks, and I'm at the point that I can't wait much longer. So, I was wondering what's the best region to use for my upgrade and what are the possible problems I may encounter such as network compatibility, drivers (or lack thereof), etc.
My phone is unbranded and not SIM-locked. Thanks in advance.
P.S. Just out of curiosity, what do you think would give me a better android experience stock 2.2 or Samsung's 2.2.
Stock 2.2. You might brick your sgs like i did my nexus one.

Thanks for the quick reply, but what I meant was, what's the best region to get Samsung's official 2.2 firmware from (i.e., Nordic countries, Hongkong or other European countries, etc), since it hasn't been released in my country yet. And is there a possibility of encountering problems with network compatibility or drivers, etc.
I think I9000DXJPA would be fine for you. I may reflash it using this since im using the JPO right now.
Got my update to Froyo a few days ago. Im in your country bro. Q.C. Use Samsung Kies. Root it with z4root. Don't lag fix it cause it causes the qwerty to freeze on my SGS.

Ok i just tried the OCLF lagfix v2.2 and my SGS runs smooth!

Are you sure you can't update yet from KIES?
DXJPA is now available.
ROM wise, I prefer Doc's ROM with HardcoreK9A Kernel.
CWM ULK advance features: data = ext4; dbdata = ext4
all tweaks ON

Cm updater q

So i have never been able to use cm updater, but I think something is wrong the newest old update it finds is 5.08 isn't that a bit old?
It is still in use right? I never touched the settings other than to also show the older versions and experimental.
Any suggestions?

It is no longer in use. Cm releases updates through clockwork recovery now.

[Q] New Kies Update?

Checked on Kies today to see if there was an official update to my current Gingerbread 2.3.3 JVO
No Android update but Kies updated to 2.0.2.11071_128
How new is this?
It has been my experience that Kies updates precede an Android update by about two weeks. Of course I may be wrong and it's just happenstance but here's hiping...
I think officail 2.3.4 ROM is very near to be released on kies for some region

I updated my Kies earlier today. There is a link between such an update and the release of a new firmware, however insignificant might be the change. For instance,we had an update of Kies in these parts just a couple of weeks or so ago followed immediately by a FW update in which only the modem was changed!

[Q] Kies and Kies Air

Hi guys, is anyone out there who knows if it is possible with these custom ROM's to connect through kies to your pc?
I tried 2 different ROM's (MIUI and F1, both the latest versions) but non of two let me connect through kies
MIUI is CM based, so forget about KIES on there. F1 might has the system .apk's needed for sync removed.
You need to have MTPapplication.apk installed on your phone.

Gear Manager problems after KK update

Hi, after updated my Note 3 to 4.4.2, my Gear Manager is unstable, it hangs when I'm trying to enter settings or contacts, screen goes black and then i get a FC.
I have searched (like always) but haven't found any solution.
I have tried everything (clear data app, uninstalled GM, wipe my both Gears, nothing changed)
I have made a clean flash of KK on my Note 3.
I have also downgraded GM to 1.5 from 1.6...
I have no more idea of what I can do now.
Fortunately, both Gears works as they should but this GM issues drive me crazy.
Gears are running last ML1 (stock, unroot)
Any help/advice is welcome.
Cheers, Ros

I have the same problem. I remember reading somewhere that you need to have 1.6 for it to work with Kitkat, but it constantly crashes when entering settings. However i'm not sure if 1.6 has been officially released yet? I'm pretty sure it wasn't when i installed it 2 days ago, so hopefully it will have been fixed when it's hopefully very soon officially released, can't imagine Samsung officially releasing obviously broken software.

i cannot view exchange mails anymore on the device since upgrade to kit kat and new GM
Sounds like it is best to either use old versions, or wait for official. 1.6 and ml1 are leaks
I have the same problem..what I do uninstall gm 1.6..download gm 1.5 at samsung store..reset the gear n not restoring the gear bakup..I have to reset it twice n reboot the phone then it all ok now..im using official poland KK with null 19 (ml1) on gear..

Stick to official 1.5 version, it is still solid stable, just a bit slow when connecting, wait Samsung release official 1.6, I believe they is some issue on it, that why still not yet get release. Current appear 1.6 is leak version.
By the way I am under MK7 official release for my GEAR ROM, not the leak ML21 as well.

Having seen the problems that KK has brought with it, there is no way I'm letting that software anywhere near my phone or gear. I realise there are those of you that simply MUST HAVE the latest updates, even before they are tested properly, but this update IS NOT READY yet. The differences between JB4.3 and KK 4.4 are so minimal, its just not worth the risk or download at this time. As the old saying goes...."if it ain't Broke........"!!!

I never regret updates to KitKat and it is official, it is the best ROM so far I use in Note 3. The smoothness is no way any 4.3 ROM can compare. Also this KitKat ROM is solid stable. I don't have GEAR connection or FC issue, if you look against all facing problem is cause of using leak ML1 GEAR ROM + Leak Gear Manager 1.6
The only issue at KitKat is SD card writable issue which can be simply fix and that actually not really Samsung problem but instead KitKat change the requirement, any apps that had that issue just need the dev updates it to fulfill KitKat requirement.
The counterfeit S View cover not working is not a bugs but obvious Samsung did to stop the counterfeit.
