Q: Is Windows SUTL a must? - Huawei Ideos X6

..or is there another way? I have no Win machine .. Can I flash in other way to prepare upgrading to newer rom and kernel?

Make it a dual boot, if you have linux or Mac as your main OS, will not advice in Virtual because this is related to USB and if it is not properly detected then it may corrupt the phone, so dual boot will be good

I have an LG Laptop that will not agree with Windows, not even original Vista and it's only a few years old.
Isn't there a mode like power button, volyme up and direct flash from a predestined directory. If I do a power button, volume up I can get to a number of directories and partitions in filemanager. Would this help? And, yes. I know about usb port problems while in Wine and others...

Have you tried booting it with windows 7 or 8, you can download it legally. I think there's no laptop which cannot boot windows

I know, it's crazy! Harware related probably or memory. Always gets bluescreen after fresh insall of Vista or 7. Very unstable on original Vista too and updates. I'll check around for XP and will give it a try.

[Q] Baseband upgrade with linux OS.

Hi!
I stopped using Windows recently, and have tried to find another way of changing the baseband on my phone. Is widows software the only option for doing this?
Seems like it at the moment, unless Smartflash works in WINE, which I doubt.
No, wine doesn't work.
Is there no way of doing this without a computer then?
It seems there is not another way, I used to upgrade my bb by virtual machine.

I do like that too but it's not the best solution because when you plug in a usb cable is the host machine that deals with it first and then the guest virtual machine manages it. This little detail made me unable to update my x10 mini, with this phone you have to push the back button while plugging in the usb. In that situation you plug the cable, the phone doesn't see any "flashing attempt" because the host machine (linux) doesn't have the flasher software running and so the phone reboots without updating. When the device is "passed" to the guest machine is already too late. As babytux said it can be done, but if you have problems in the procedure a "real" windows machine can be useful.
no known linux sw at this time, sorry ...
i updated my BB to 20110725 with virtualbox (without hw virtualizing)-(64bit linux as host machine) without any problems (smartflash in winxp used only virtual modem(tty) for this job).
i'm thinking the lgos is a "real" open phone for all types of OS's, not to mention the super "last" flash fallback(nvflash).
hope, this is a little help for you ...
Unless there is a way to do it with Nvflash it might be impossible for now.

[Q] DRIVER ISSUES flashing from CM7

OK, I'm trying to flash from CM7. I've installed the Android SDK with Nexus S usb drivers. I can get into download mode, that's not the issue. The issue is that the computer will recognize a mass storage device and an Android Composite ADB interface (my phone) however, it will also say UNRECOGNIZED device. I've read thread after thread on here and have followed all the different suggestions and I've tried all different USB ports on my computer. The only thing I haven't tried is a different cable. ODIN will not recognize my phone no matter if it's 1click or not. I even tried installing ubuntu on my computer and when I chose to boot that instead of windows, it gave me all sorts of errors and wouldn't go any farther. suppose I need a dedicated linux machine. anyway. I'm at my wits end trying to get rid of CM7. can it really be this damn difficult to flash over it?? I really don't know what else to do besides a different cable, but I don't really see how that would be the problem, considering when I have no drivers installed, windows recognizes my phone as a captivate and wants to install the captivate drivers......even though I've already installed them?? my phone ends up showing up as the Android Composite ADB Interface, which I mentioned earlier. Can someone please for the love of God freakin' help me get this off my phone? I am still have very horrible battery life and it is too buggy still for me to use it everyday. I would appreciate any response I get. YES, I know I've posted with this problem before, that thread went no where and actually got deleted. but OK.
Try using a different computer, preferably with a different OS(win 7 instead of XP, etc).
What kind of error when installing Ubuntu? Only error I had using wubi installer was windows-no disc (just keep clicking continue until the install wizard pops up)
After installing ubuntu it wanted to reboot. So I did. I chose to boot into ubuntu it flashed some errors real quick with no time to read then rebooted. Did this several times. Don't know what the problem is. I will have to search for access to a win 7 machine. Seriously though I'm ready to smash my phone. This should not be this hard.

[Q] Windows 8 Drivers?

I am trying to flash my broken GALAXY Tab since my ASUS TF101 got run over by a School Bus...
However, the drivers don't work in Windows 8 RTM... Even if you set compatibility mode to Win7, the installer pops up incompatible OS Version...
Can anybody help me?
I am not an expert but I have read that people like you who are having problems like this have installed windows-xp in a virtual box setup in their win-7 or 8 computers and flashed their Tabs.
Give a try.

Well we would need more info regarding this if you expect any help. Did you use odin? What error did you get? Did you pull plug early? Did battery run out? Can you go into recovery? Can you go into download mode?
Plenty of topics already on this so you would be better of going reading them, plenty of info and answers for you already about "wont turn on" subject so no need for us to just repeat them all.

[Q] ADB Not Installing in Windows 8

Hey Gang!
Ok, Here's the problem, No matter which rom I run, I cannot get the ADB Drivers to load on windows 8 PRO. Used to run just fine on Win7 SP1, matter of fact it would install itself as soon as I plugged in the phone along with all the other Samsung usb drivers, now all i get is something called "Samsung File-CD Gadget USB Device" and it doesn't even install it as a phone. Any Ideas?
There have been issues from mobile driver to odin & now up to your post on win8. Donno what's the problem but it seems that what worked on win7 flawlessly for phones doesn't seem to be working equally well on win8. I haven't been able to find the solution too. Tough luck, use win7 itself. Can't help . Hope some one does...

Soft/Hard Brick Tab P1000 (Help!)

Hi Guys,
So basically I have a P1000 in my hands. I was asked if I could upgrade it to gingerbread since it was running a slow froyo ROM from a Portuguese provider.
The thing is, since the beginning that I don't have access to ODIN. I can go into download mode but the tablet is not recognized in both windows ( USB Not Recognized - Unknown Device ) and linux ( device descriptor read/64, error -110 ).
Since I wasn't able to get in ODIN I used MobileODIN. I was able to flash gingerbread and I was able to boot but something went wrong because on boot and recovery I had colored lines. This was probably a bootloader issue since MobileOdin doesn't flash it.
After it I made the biggest error, I flashed thru MobileOdin the Overcome Kernel. The flash it self went fine and it was booting after but the big problem for me was that it changed RFS to EXT4, changing the partitions it self leaving me locked to that ROM since MobileOdin doesn't partition.
I didn't realized the impact of the kernel at the time and I basically killed the TAB when I tried to go back to froyo using again MobileOdin. It flashed the kernel but then it wasn't able to boot into recovery and the Tab was freezed in "Galaxy Tab" screen.
The thing is, I JUST NEED DOWNLOAD MODE!!! I'm able to get into it but I can't get a way to get recognized by the PC.
The cable it self is working since it worked with ADB,etc in the ROM.
I tried many drivers, with and without kies, and 5 different PCs (Win7x64,x32, XPx32) and no luck.
Was able to try other cable to but I have the same issue.
Basically I think I'm screwed! I don't think any of the bricked guides apply to me since I can go into Download Mode! I just need to get it detected by some OS.
Any ideas? Thanks!
Use linux with heimdall.
Your descriptor issue is probably irrelevant, maybe linux trying to mount the SD card.

Hi!
I already tried heimdall, but the device doesn't show in lsusb.
When using heimdall command line it just says that it doesn't find any device in Download Mode :\
Next thing I was thinking was to take out the battery because I'm really out of options really :|
Not sure if this matters, but I always have this in my machine. (Ubuntu)
create a file /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
within, add these lines
#Samsung
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="04e8", MODE="0666"
save the file, then do a /etc/init.d/udev restart
that should make the device hot pluggable, detected, in ubuntu.

You have to install the drivers on windows 8 according to:
1- right click on the setup.exe then select
2- troubleshoot compatibility.
3- run through the wizard selecting that your application was running fine on earlier version of windows ...
Good luck

Hi!
Thanks for the help but are those x64? Was trying to run in XP x32 but it says is not a valid win32 app. I saw they are 1.3.450.0, are they changed? I think I already tried that version without luck :|
Regards.
These drivers I was using on windows 7 without any issues... But after I used windows 8 I couldn't install them...
It is supposed that they are not changed and am using them for the last two years... I tried Odin 3.07 and it also work great for the tab..

Tried the drivers without any luck :\
Tried removing the battery for some minutes too and still have the same problem.
Do you guys think JTAG could help in this situation?
Thanks
Does a device need to be seen by lsusb?
If you do a heimdall flash, does it give error?

Heimdall just says it didn't found a device in Download Mode.
In dmesg the error is " device descriptor read/64, error -110 "
Going for JTAG.
I will let you guys know if it works out.
Thanks for the help
