I just wanted to start a poll on the average monthly data usage of xda members using the galaxy note. If your on a tiered data plan, what's your cap? Include your wifi data usage as well. I use 3g watchdog app and it provides wifi as well as billable data usage (for those wondering how to figure out wifi data usage).
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium HD app
I managed to limit my usese below 6GB.
Remember it's on 2G network. 3G and WIFI NOT available here.
Depends how much time I spend at work as if at home I use my WiFi but roughly 5-10GB of data a month, also depends how many new ROMs come out too.
Have had a lot of time off from work this month so only 2.2GB used.
Got to love 'all-you-can-eat' data!
Normally lower but found twitchtv app and watching d3 streams, plus 3-4 hard resets but no brick

I am still on grandfathered unlimited, but AT&T throttles you at 3GB. I have hit 3GB once or twice before because I get text messages saying "you are getting close", but they never send another one saying they are actually going to throttle. So, I guess its just automatic. It sucks either way.
I have like another week or two left in my current Billing cycle and the screen shot shows my current data usage for this month. I have wifi at home and at work so I don't use too much of my monthly 3gb data plan.

Around 400 MB a month. I'm on a prepaid plan with 300 MB included so I have to pay for the additional 100 MB. I don't use multimedia until there is wifi available so it's not that hard for me to stay just under the above mentioned limit.
Sent from my Galaxy Note running ICS
Normally around 700MB I have a contract that includes 1GB but have never reached it, mainly because most places I go I use wifi (wifi usage is likely about 4GB if not more)
Hi,
Around 2Go each month.
Fair use limit of my provider is 3Go (above 3Go, bandwidth can be limited).
I've got unlimited data, but I only use ~550mb a month, because I live and work in a wifi zone. Increasing numbers of bars near me are offering free wifi too.
Well under 500 mb data on 3G and wifi is unlimited everywhere I go.
Usually around 2-4GB on H+, on wifi I use 40-50GB as I stream a load of video.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Usually only a couple hundred megs. I'm on wifi at work and home. Usually driving when I'm not.
Have the note for about three weeks now. Am on a pretty restrictive 100MB/month plan.
Managed to only use 75MB of that so far. 18,5 of those from the one time I dared use google maps navigation, 13,5 from when I downloaded two apps after forgetting to enable wifi.
So it seems like I can actually make do with that. 9GB of wifi traffic in the same timespan, though, half of which have been Kies air file transfers. Using wifi at home, work, and most any other places I can get away with doing so.
No unlimited dataplans here for me. I have a 1.6 GB limit, which is one of the biggest available in Holland. (2gb is max).
I only use 400 till 600mb a month on 3G.

I just looked at my data usage and saw that I've pulled 36406mb since 9/12. I think that's impressive. Then again I've never checked how much data I actually use.
Most of that is tethering, and it shows that simplemobile trumps tmobiles 12gb cap. Truly unlimited
So how much data do you pull? 3g dog in market will keep track for you if your carrier does not.

got a hard time believing that. I hit the 5gb (not 12gb) soft cap first month and they throttled me down. Maybe you looked at it wrong.
oh, You aren't using t-mobile, you are using simple mobile. Per their terms and conditions:
2. Protective Measures
To provide a good experience for the majority of our customers and minimize capacity issues and degradation in network performance; we may take measures including temporarily reducing data throughput for a subset of customers who use a disproportionate amount of bandwidth. Additionally, in the event that a customer is in violation of the Permissible and Prohibited Data Uses listed above, we may reduce your data speed for the remainder of that billing cycle or terminate data service without notice or refund. We may also suspend, terminate, or restrict your data session, Plan, or service if you use your Data Plan in a manner that interferes with other customers’ service, our ability to allocate network capacity among customers, or that otherwise may degrade service quality for other customers.
I hope you don't go that far over every month or if they ever get popular, you'll probably get booted.
FYI: I get truly unlimited data through time warner for 10bucks a month (added onto cable) and i'm guessing the speeds are a little faster.
I was usually running between 5.5 to 6 GB's a month until I got wifi in my home, now its down to almost 2gb/ month
So far, I have used about 10gigs since the 4th of June.

And now it restricts me lots of sites and even on the market some apps.
I return the phone because of this crap and after 8 years with at&t I canceled my service.
Check your account plan see if they change anything and check sites on the web like streaming sites.
It doesn't let me stream like from justintv on lte but when I switch to wifi I have no problem.
well on my iphone i was using an unlimited plan for $30mon, with this vivid, im charged $30mon for unlimited. im not really understanding the difference here. im hoping its not something obvious but as far as i can tell, its the same service except i have 4g
edit
i think i get it, its restricting data intensive apps. well tbh, im glad they do that. imagine everyone doing data intensive apps on the network... it will make it slow and might even crash it. when i go to the local theme park, no one can hardly use the internet on there phones cause its so slow that many times it will just time out. so many people are using there phones while theyre waiting in lines that the cell tower cant handle it all.
There is no difference for me.
Good, now people can't hog so much data, it won't kill the network.
In all honesty, all you probably have to do is root the phone, and kill some background app, and you'll have full functionality again.

I am not on any kind of grandfathered plans. On Premier it shows DataPro 2GB Personal for 4G LTE Smartphones
Edit:
---------- Post added at 09:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:26 AM ----------
I thought maybe if being on the enterprise data plan might remove the blocking and changed to the 4GB Enterprise Data. But still being blocked.
Well first I am Glad they are limiting things as stated before it will keep network intensive stuff down which should in turn make the network in general function better. Also if I recall correctly on a different device there where apps that were blocked from being installed over 3g but once root was achieved it was bypassed so I wouldn't worry about it too horribly much considering I think the change was in the software.

And you want a lovely nice bottle neck with that too right? Considering if they allow Large files to go down they will Bottle Neck considering the network they have is still shoddy I mean hell look at what happened when the 1st iPhones were released and Everyone was downloading stuff almost immediately...Network Crashed. So Either it's yay have unlimited and watch the network crash because it got too congested and Not be able to use your Data At All or deal with the slight restrictions and go home or to a Wi-Fi area which there are plenty of and Download the stuff there.
But as I stated in the post prior I am guessing it is probably throttled some where in the software like previous phones have been and it is just a matter of rooting and finding the code and changing it.

If you use a different browser such as opera mobile justin/twitch tv work fine...
Works just fine on the Dolphin Broswer.
As for limiting, this also says it on 3g, however my corporate exchange and intranet sites work just fine. I have yet to have anything blocked except the same things many people do like block file size for an app that wants you to use WIFI.
i've had no problems so far...a few hickups while video chattin..but otherrwise im enjoyin my $30.00 unlimited plan.
I have had the Family Unlimited Data Plan for years, Since the Blue Angel, then Apache.
My Data is $30/Mo. Unlimited for all my lines with throttling to faux-g (as I cleverly heard it put) starting after 10Gb of Data.
Your plan was not a Smartphone data plan it seems to me. Looks like you reaped the benefits of it for some time, time to pay the piper.

But can Verizon not see this and charge me loads of money for doing this?
Just got 8mb/s while wifi tethered to my bionic's 2 bar 4g signal. Nice!
Is the data usage trackable by verizon? Their has been a concern with tethering because some say verizon can tell the difference between normal phone data usage compared to tethered data usage.
i'm not an expert by any means, but I used wifi tether all the time on my D1 and had zero issues with verizon.
i also know that before this update, wifi tether would activate the native HotSpot app and not let you connect. I'm banking on the fact that wifi tether now bypasses the hotspot app, we're in the clear...
Again, these are just my thoughts, not confirmed to my knowledge.. (but i'm also saying with all the wifi hacks, we would have heard of someone getting caught by now)

Or maybe that's Verizon's way of getting us to think we're in the clear, to lure us all into breaking contract and cancelling our free data plans!
I'm pretty sure they can tell, I just don't think they care unless you get stupid with it. We are after all a very small percent of their user group.

He means unlimited data. We have unlimited 4G data instead of having to pay per MB.
Well, I decided I would take a bullet. I let a friend tether on her laptop for a while. If Verizon charges me, we'll know, and I'll chalk it up to experience. If they don't sweet, and I'll let everyone know.

15 megs down/2 megs up
see below
I have service from a cable company called Broadstripe. I'm in a Seattle suburb, but kind of in the boonies, and they are my only cable option... ludicrous, I know.
and, of course, they're awful. I'm paying for their 'most robust' internet option (15 megs down) and have literally never received advertised speeds. even when the tech came out and hooked me up, the first thing I did was a speed test... < 10 megs down at 10:30 am in the middle of the week, when speeds should theoretically be at their peak. have complained many times and received many worthless 'perks'. if I could change to ANYONE else, I would. even comcast, god forbid. I refuse to go DSL or satellite though.
furthermore, every night after around 5PM, the speeds go from less than advertised to barely usable due to traffic.
I just dropped quite a bit of money on a better modem with a built-in router and am hoping that consolidating everything into one package and having a DOCSIS 3.0 modem might make a difference. we'll see. I'm not expecting much and they're already making things difficult with the switch from their p.o.s. provided modem.. which I fully expected.
wouldn't recommend them and hopefully when I move in march I will have some better options.

I'm starting to get a little worried by what I'm reading in the N6 forums. I've been building my own roms for my devices since i've had my Nexus 4. I would just sync AOKP's repo and build it. This is because AOKP always had whatever was needed to skirt not only tethering caps, but data caps in general. Unfortunately AOKP seems to be dead.
I use my device as my internet wholly so its very important I keep that. I haven't activated my N6 because of this. As I usually use around 400GB a month.
Do any of these new roms for the N6 have this? Is this something I could build/add in on my own? I'm not concerned with the tethering bypass as I know that can be achieved with the DUN workaround.
It would be fantastic if someone could point me in the correct direction about the info that makes this possible. I would be extremely grateful. Thank you devs that make this stuff happen.
Why not just get unlimited data plan.
Because I would rather not give any more money than I must to a company to regularly takes steps to monetize on the data I already pay for. Subscribers should be able to use whatever data as much as they please.

I'm not exactly sure I understand what you're asking about here. You realize that data caps from your plan can not be bypassed no matter what you do. If by that you mean tethering data caps than yes, a simple mod can be added to stock and no root is really necessary, although it is easier to do with having root.
If by some other way you are talking about bypassing data caps on your plan then I'm all ears on how that's possible.
BTW, none of the US carriers have unlimited tethering plans so there isn't enough money you can give them to allow unlimited tethering. Unless of course your outside US.
Also, I guess you're the one sucking everyone's bandwidth on that one tower around your house. Who is your provider?
Maybe I'm just some freak occurrence, however my wife who is on the same plan as me (Tmo $30) gets capped at 5GB every month on a stock rom, I on the other hand use anywhere from 2-400GB's a month. I've also noticed that it works on some roms, but not others.

Are you talking about pre paid or post paid plans? They don't limit data on post paid its just 5gb of LTE then its 3G for the rest of you go over until your next billing cycle. I have the Unlimited LTE talk and text plan and so far I'm at 30gb and its still LTE speeds so they don't throttle the unlimited plan.

What plan are you on? If you're on the T-Mobile unlimited than it's understandable that they won't throttle you because they think you're using your phone and not tethering.
Again, there is a hack to bypass the carrier check, which allows them to know you are tethering.
If you've cooked your own ROMs before surely you know what to do.
