Is there any way to take the Stock ICS camera and dock from the leak and install it over the CM9 or any future rom installations?
I use CameraFX but I use the stock Camera for recording videos and the dock sucks on CM9.
Basically, I'm not sure which apps are the camera and dock apps.
Thanks
capera.apk should be in /system/app, not sure what the dock is, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
I believe at least with gingerbread that the dock and car dock are both system apks as well.
even if you find it there i doubt that it will work. aren't most issues regarding ICS based roms because of the current kernel the bionic has "officially" from GB? as far as i know things like the background being black on MIUI and such were caused by the kernel. is it possible the camera issues were also caused by that?
Well the dock app doesn't use the camera but it may rely on other parts of the stock ROM and therefore not work on CM9. There is only one way to find out and that would be to install them and see what happens. Worse case scenario, the apps will be non responsive and force close.

Hey yall, two questions...
1) Are there any downsides to installing the 720p patch? like do I lose flash or anything?
2) what exactly is a kernel? I came recently from the cliq community and most of the deving was done on just trying to get 2.1 working, this is the first time I've seen it being talked about so much. What do some kernals do that others dont? If I don't install custom ones what won't I be able to do?
Thanks for the help!
I cant help you much with the Kernel question but the downside to the 720p patch is the framerate, it only records at 15fps in 720p mode (unless they fixed that recently)
The kernel is the core of the operating system. It's like the bridge between software and hardware. They can be compiled to save battery (never does for me) and overclocked to compute faster (no huge difference), make the audio a little louder, etc, but you can still run the same apps and do everything else without changing kernels.
Do I have to wipe roms and stuff to install a new kernel? Or does it just flash over the older one (like a recovery)
1. The downside to 720p is that using the flash led casts some pictures with a green tint. Haven't noticed this myself yet...But you won't "lose" anything. You also must use a kernel with 720p support. As of right now, 720p only works in cyanogenmod (unless otherwise stated...I think Enomther's rom has support also)
2. You need to look at the kernel threads, they will tell you everything you need to know
When flashing a kernel, it's always good practice to wipe the cache partition.

This has been fixed. It is much higher now at 27FPS.

It also no longer casts a green tint. Enomther does have support. Other examples would be eViL's Q&D HTC Sense v.1.00 or RoDrIgUeZsTyLe CM6 LimeMOD both have support.
Adobe has the player on the Market; however, it is not available from within the device. Has anyone had success loading the apk directly?
In our case with NC, the ability to install Flash 10.1 and even more have it function is limited much less by its appearance or non-appearance in Markets with different (faked) fingerprints. Flash 10.1 when force installed looks for fully configured and functioning HW acceleration for its quasi-H.264 video decode & rendering and quits finding nothing in original Android 2.1 to hook itself onto, finding even less (if it's even possible, lol) in current Froyos, OCed or not, and nothing yet in CM7 (AOSP 2.3.2) or Honeycomb.
Details of what is going on and why you don't need to worry about Flash just yet are in my blog, fineoils.blogspot.com
Thanks aludal... I'll have to check out your blog. Hope that the HC AOSP is updated accordingly and the Dev community can go with it...
I use Winamp for music, I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to use the volume buttons to control music? I know it's possible on Cyanogen mod, but I'm using serendipity for now until CM is stable...does anyone know if music controls with volume buttons is possible?
is there anything on serendipity function wise that cm7 doesnt have that you use/need. because if not cm7 has themes that are close to serendipity and cm7 is actually pretty stable at this point, im using it and i love it.
my issue with CM7 was that battery life was nowhere where I'd like i to be, the headset button isn't functional, and the camera is pretty much unusual/****ty.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the customizability of CM7, and intend to flash it once it's stable, but I'd like to find good replacements for things like Samsung's contact/calander apps, which I think are better than default

Wifi fixed yet?
CM7
On my first full day of CM7 I got better battery life than I did with Perception 10.3
Camera 360 has a free app works perfectly and takes pictures at full resolution, with a normal mode so you don't have to have picture effects, but I don't know about a video recorder replacement yet though.
Came across the new leaked Android Music Player 3.0.336 on engadget today. Thought I'd try it on my captivate installs and runs, seems to lag a tad sometimes but runs otherwise. I'm running Serendipity 6.3
There's some info here: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/04/05/download-new-android-music-play-3-0-336/
Also below is the apk attached.
it seems to work pretty well. Just wish it worked with touchwiz's lockscreen and pulldown controls
My Conclusion
I suffer no lag and my info on all my software is below but i am overclocked to 1200ghz that might be why it isnt laggy for me and also i tried the new gallery apk from the same site and it didnt work but i didnt feel like trying it but maybe you could use root explorer and paste it in the system/app folder and move the stock one to the sd card to see if it works also if u wanna remove the stock music app and put that music app in its place do it the same way i just mentioned
im trying the new camera from the link as well
Today we have a super stable ICS and a nearly stable JB but why in a heck do people still use and cook GB and Froyo ROMS? I've even seen Eclair phones gingerbread is slow and the 3D driver is terrible. I wanted to test and went back to cm7 and played asphalt 6 and it was laggy as heck! It only gave up to 10fps! Not good, plus it shows a wrong radio bar cause when I have one bar and want to call, a message pops up saying I have no signal. So guys can you explain to me why most people still running GB and below?

Because: Samsung camera, music player, messaging app, contacts with slide function, memo etc. I'm still running GB only because I like the Touchwiz apps, and of course I'd upgrade to ICS/JB if they were possible to function..

But they do function! They're better than GB in many ways! Speed and stability and memory management are the key concepts.

maybe some people prefer stock features. Many people say samsung camera takes better photos (driver?), and I myself miss the stock music player even when I've been using ics and jb... and we still don't have any FM radio now

The stock music player is stupid because it doesn't have a filtering feature thus it plays every music file (ringtones, alarms, recordings etc.) And that's annoying.

there are heaps of pretty reliable GB roms, the battery life also seems to be better but probably due to less CPU usage.
