[Q] NTFS Support OTG on stock ICS? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I bought a OTG cable from China for some time ago. Quickly I discovered that the Note did not support NTFS file system...
Yesterday I updated to ICS and also rooted the phone. I then found some apps on the market that said they could mount NTFS devices, I tried many apps but it still did not work. All the forum posts says that I have to flash the kernel to get it to work...
Is there some way to get NTFS support and be able to read NTFS hard drives without flashing the kernel?
Thanks

It does work. I could read NTFS-USB via OTG in RocketRom v6, but after flashing to v7 I have problems with it.

to ROM devs: full NTFS support [And anyone who wants NTFS r/w support!]

Hello, if you have a ROM and are going to support OTG, and NTFS, check out this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724078
I was getting extremely frustrating when nothing that I tried worked to get my external NTFS hard drive mounted read-write. It would only mount read-only. I even tried the only rom I found that said it supported OTG, and ntfs, but that too only let me mount r/o. I even tried Stickmount from google play. And another rom there too for good measure, but none of it worked.
So I stumbled upon this, and in less than a minute, I solved the problem I was trying to fix for hours today.
It would be great if devs could integrate this into their roms so people wouldn't have to mess with it, but whatever.
Also if you aren't a dev and you just want to plug in your NTFS drive and be able to read AND write, check out the app he wrote: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1588940
You won't regret it!

[Q] Rooted with NTFS support?

Hi, haven't had a need to root yet, but am considering doing so to use an external NTFS-formatted drive over OTG. I was wondering if anyone has tested this with the One yet. The Paragon exFAT, NTFS & HFS+ app needs root, so if anyone is rooted and wouldn't mind testing this app with an NTFS-formated drive on the One, that would be a lot of help.
Thanks.
NTFS support has to be enabled via a custom kernel as far as I'm aware. There are kernels available for the One that do so. Note that Sense will not detect the drive even with NTFS support enabled, so you'll have to use a drive mounting app on the Play store.
Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

CM12, TWRP, exFAT or NTFS read/write for OTG

Been googling this for the last couple days, trying various things, not having luck yet. I want one flash drive for my large media and writeable for TWRP backups.
I'm running CM12 nightlies and the latest TWRP, have installed Stickmount. I have a 256GB USB flash drive and an OTG cable, and want to use the flash drive to play music and videos, as well as write nandroid backups in TWRP. I can read off the drive (currently formatted NTFS, and has my 130GB+ music collection on it, plus 50GB of videos so far).
The rub is I have videos that are larger than 4GB, so I think I need either NTFS or exFAT as my file system on the flash drive... but I haven't figured out how to have TWRP and ES File Explorer write to the drive.
What are others doing? Really would prefer to avoid having an NTFS/exFAT drive for media, and a second FAT32 drive for TWRP backups.
NTFS is Microsoft proprietary. Although some devs and OEM implement it in kernels and ROMs, I don't think you'll get it in recovery.

I totally get it. So, what filesystem could I use for both TWRP and Lollipop that can support files larger than 4GB?

Not sure... Does it support ext4
Otg with NTFS is possible if ntfs-3g driver is included in the twrp build

No OTG support after upgrading to Lolipop ?

Hello guys
Recently i had to connect a USB drive ( Kingston 8GB pen drive) to my phone ( Xperia Z3C) but nothing happend. So i said "hmm maybe there sth wrong with my phone" so i tried to mount it on my Xperia Z Ultra, but again nothing was mounted. The pen drive was NOT mounted as it should and I also coudnt do it manually from the Settings( because the options "Mount and Unmout" were grayed out). This is pretty weird. I used to plug in pen drives, external HDDs all the time back when i was on KitKat. But i havent tried to do it since updating to Lolipop .... till now. I searched so long for an answer but i coudnt find anything Confirmed so i decided to ask you guys
My question is : What is the reason for not being able to mount USB drives anymore ? Is it the android version (Lolipop) or Im missing sth ?
Facts :
- i have an OTG cable ( even 4 of them, they are all in perfectly working condition)
- my USB drive is completely fine ( i tried with 4 other flash drives with the same result - not being able to mount them)
- my phone(Z3C) and phablet(XZU) are working perfectly and rooted with latest firmwares. I used to plug in USB sticks all the time back when i was on KitKat.
Help me understand what's happening pls
Are these stock roms on your devices, or are they custom roms? lots of custom roms debloat the software that's installed, sometimes removing the bigger packages not used so often.
Presumably you can see the file structure on the phone/tablet when you hook it up to a PC? so the lead and USB libs are working.
The only other thing I can think of is that NTFS might not be supported in Lolipop, have you tried formatting one of the drives in FAT?
all roms i have are stock
my USB sticks are all FAT32, my external HDD is in NTFS. Neither work.
Yes i can see all files on my phone/phablet through the PC when i hook it up.
