NOTE TO MODS: I know you may consider this thread missplaced, It was posted here for greater exposure. If you feel it should be moved them I am sorry for taking up your time.
A while back someone suggested a Haykuro Donation App for the market and as I have finally got my dev setup up and running under Windows 7 and I have the nessicary dev account with Google I bashed out a quick App and have the aproval of the man himself to put it up.
The app itself is a simple thing, just a thank you message with a link to Hykuro's paypal account. My problem is with pricing, I know that many here are young, not working or otherwise short of cash so did not want to make it too expensive. On the other hand, I want this to raise as much money as possible for Haykuro.
My idea was a Gold,Silver and Bronze version priced at $10,$5 and $2 respectively, that way people could pay what they can afford up front and everyone would still be able to donate via the paypal link.
So, what do you think? I probably won't have time to put this on the market till the weekend so will follow the voting till then

Guys, I would appreciate if you posted something when you voted, just to keep this thread bumped.
I think haykuro will not do that . Donate application is really suck. If I want to donate him, just send $100 to his paypal.

If I may quote from his last PM to me
"that all sounds great, but i don't have a google account to publish to market
besides that, the way you wish to roll out is up to you. by the fans, for the fans. i do this for the community, as well as myself, so the money is just a bonus"
Haykuro himself is not bothered about the money, but I want to offer another avenue for people to donate to him.
Can people who are selecting Other please put their suggestion/reason in a post or I will have no idea what you want.
The 2, 5, and 10 sounds pretty fair to me, if there's some of you who wish to contribute more then just hit his donate link. Otherwise this would be awsome, I to have been waiting for an app of this sort to show my gratitude to the big guy..."Haykuro" ......Thanks Baldyman.

And thank you, seems like you have really understood what I am trying to do here. Also, I think it may be you who first suggested the App.
No offense BaldyMan, but if Haykuro doesn't have the ability to put the app up with a google account, then the 2, 5 and 10 would go to you since you would upload it, correct? Now I'm sure you're probably a good person and would give it to Haykuro, but I personally think the app should be coded so as to donate to his paypal account directly. I don't know if that's even possible, but I'm not a programmer. Basically, I think the app should be free, and you can pay haykuro directly when using it.
Just my 2 cents.

No offense taken, I currently have this poll running both here and Androidcommunity and am beggining to see the free with link as the best solution, Maybe if I release the Gold,SIlver,Bronze & a free version it will cover all bases.

Good thinking. I'm glad you didn't take offense, I'm just super paranoid. If I could hand-deliver a donation to haykuro, that'd be the best way to go for me.
Well it's been about a day since I put this up, from comments here and on Android community I have come to the following conclusions.
1. The majority are in favor of the gold/Silver/bronze option.
2. A number of people do not trust me to hand over the money to Haykuro.
3. A number of people don't like the fact that Google/T-mobile get a 30% cut.
My current thinking is to release the Gold/Silver/Bronze option at $10/$5/$2 as previously stated and also a free version. Since all versions will be identical except for the name and I will link to Haykuro's paypal in the market desciption for all of the paid apps this should please all Parties.
Please believe me that my only intention in doing this is to open another channel for donations to Haykuro, not to rip anyone off.
Just to let you all know these Apps are now on the market.
i just bought the gold edition. too bad it uses the browser to submit the donation. it would be nicer if you integrated paypal into it. imo.
I think it's a great idea, but I think a better way to go about it is to build an app similar to the JF Updater and let that have a donate button in it.
That way those who really enjoy his work also get the benefit of automatic notifications of updates.
Maybe too involved, but maybe not. Your thoughts?
I think there should be one app in the market and thats the free one. I think charging for this is a mistake. I'm sure most if not all people who have his builds also have his blog bookmarked so there really isn't a need for this whatsoever. I will use his donate link on his blog if i want to donate to him. All the money then goes directly to him.
i use jf builds and haykuro builds and other donation dev apps. it would be easy to download to any of them from one app. just an idea
All this superhero DONATEWARE OH MY GOD NO bull**** needs to stop. It is not, and never was, the intent of nathan or pulser to charge money for a rom. Superhero 1.0.0 was clearly marked a beta test, and under normal circumstances would have only been tested by the villain team. However, being nice dudes, they decided to let people who paid for their website and hosting try it out as well as an added bonus for their donation.
Let me remind you again that this entire time, superhero was clearly marked beta test and every indication was made that a less buggy and feature complete version would be released to the public on xda.
Of course, all you entitled sons of *****es cried that it was UNFAIR and that you wanted to be a part of the cool kids club, simply because your internet ego was so goddamn big that you thought you could get whatever you wanted from crying hard enough. Well, when you didn't get your way of course you just started crying more about how unfair it was, how terrible the villain team was, how they ate babies to fuel their rom-o-tron 9000, and how they lied publicly about superhero to get the dollars.
Well, things certainly look different now, dont they? Superhero 1.1.0 is public and free, just like you wanted, and you dont care because feeyo is your newest internet qq target. Shut the **** up, let our devs work, and take your bull**** crying out of the DEVELOPMENT forum so the devs can work without you filling their threads with nonsense.
Mods: please let this stay in development for a while so everyone can read it.

I too lol'd. I lol'd in agreement.
lol you got some serious frustrations. And yes Feeyo has dropped here with the best rom out at the moment.

And this free publishing, why ?????
Is this not a forum ???
Can I say EVERYTHING that I want, with respect????

I think OP's point was more, they're not taking money for it. They're doing a closed beta with their donators. If other people want to help out by donating and testing, there's no problem, surely.
I just can't grasp how incredibly tight you'd have to be to begrudge a guy a few quid when he dedicates that much time to development, "against the GPL" or otherwise

Seriously... No comment.
i'm ashamed to say i got it off usenet without donating, but i don't believe that's legally theft.
we should have a forum for inter-ROM team toe2toes.
I don't care about donateware, as long as I don't see it on the forum.

No, it's not theft at all because Android (and derivatives) are licenced under the GNU GPL.
Doing a 'little bonus' for people that donated is nothing wrong IMHO, but apparently it can quickly look like something else.
so on that subject, I completely agree with the OP.
I don't agree with his tone and language, but I do agree on his statement .
What this has to do with Freeyo and his ROM is a mystery to me though. More and more I see why dev's go away from XDA... the most vocal people on the fourm are the users of the ROMs and the devs don't have a normal place to talk amongst each other besides moving to different forums or use something else... a shame.
the mentality of the Android (and (gsm) Hero specially) section is sooo much different from the WinMo section I for example don't want to try cooking for Android... there is little to no community feel on XDA on the Android sections.
Anyone that decide to post their works on xda have to know what is the purposing of the forum...
If anyone don't agree with this way of work, then can choose any of the million of forums in the web.....
I think is very simply...
Regards....
EDIT: And don't forget that a lot of dev's that today have their own forum, had started their job here, and used the forum for their purposing.....

nope, that is a common misconception that a lot of people have about the gpl. as a matter of fact there is nothing in the gpl that restricts people from selling it, the only requirement of the gpl is that the source code has to be released and thats it. there are tons of commercial software out there that contains gpl code.
and for those of you who wants proof here is a link to the official gpl faq:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#DoesTheGPLAllowMoney
lol... so ppl who actually pay money are the ones to get the buggiest version of your software? Nice policy I'm sure you'd have tons of happy customers I wouldn't have cared the tiniest bit about superhero being donate rom (since there are plenty of fast vanilla roms out there), had it not been a thread in the development section for more than a week?! I mean... I'm ok with ppl selling stuff, I'm not okay with selling it on xda...

OK, so I made a donate button, hopefully the mods approve (it is for a good cause). Input your donation amount [for now, we are doing pennies, maybe we might increase it a little later on(now that I think about it, if 100 members donate 0.01, that's only $1.00 lol w/e)]. We'll see how this works. I'll try to list the people that donated, for (Sugar Honey Ice Tea)'s and giggles. (The forum needs to be family friendly.)
No donate button. I don't know when my bank statement will come in.
Just go to your account and send the penny as a gift. No charges and I don't need to verify.

P.S. Add a note with your XDA username, so I know who you are.

You all know that idea, and you always thought about it. I was thinking about it as well. Now with internet it is much easier to do. Would like to know if it would be ok with the mods/admin to start a donation account where members would donate a penny (or whatever the lowest donation amount is), and then me wee how much is collected in a given amount of time...and then of course donate all of it to XDA to pay for server space, etc. What do ya'll think?

Well you guys can chose. I guess I would need a mods permission to do this first.
If we bump it up to $1, I take 25% for coming up with the idea .

Here is our little sob story.
DJ_Steve is a well known developer for not just the Streak 7, but also the Toshiba Thrive and Streak 5. About 7 months ago, he asked me to join up with him in development of ICS for the Dell Streak 7. Naturally I accepted to learn from a great dev.
In the past 4 months Steve has gone dark . After talking with him, it turns out he is having financial problems. He has been working double shifts at his job, left his apartment and moved in with his girlfriend, sold his Subaru, sold several tablets, computers, and other personal belongings in an attempt to get himself on the right track. Things are improving in his life, but he needs help with one other bill.
The server.
The server is a Core-i7 with 16GB of RAM with SSD drives. It lets us build a complete version of Android 4.0.3 in 40 minutes. It has all the things we need to build for all three devices plus experiment on other things, like kernel development and new devices that could lead to better things for our devices.
Current cost is $59.95 USD a month to pay for this server. We are looking for help paying for this. At the bottom of this thread will be two different donation links.
One is his USD/GB donation if you want to donate in small or big portions.
The other link is to pay a month of the bill itself, directly to the host of the server.
I am not asking anything I wouldn't do myself, as I will be paying for a month of the server myself.
I am asking for at least 6 months worth of donations (5 after I pay for a month), so a total of $300 is needed. This should be enough to get him through a tough time without the worry of another bill to stress about.
With the help from this, we can get Steve back on track and get him back to developing.
Pay for the Server directly: (removed because its a one-time only link)
Give donations to Steve:
GBP Donate | USD Donate
And Steve wants to add this:
"thanks folks now you know the reason i been so quiet lately i havent had the time to do anything due to this , if anyone did pay via the direct payment server link let me know the paypal transaction id(s) and i can pass the info to my server company to make sure it get credited correctly "
How is this going so far? Any response?
Regards,
Hans
We had one user on TabletRoms.com say he paid for a month of service, so its a great start
Since the sever donate link is gone, I just sent $60(6NG74443LG717281V) directly to Steve. Hope this helps out.

Thank you so much, guys, I know Steve really appreciates it.
Will donate as soon as I have some more funds myself. Currently balancing a bunch of bills and rent that all came in at the same time this month.
Will donate once I have the money for sure though.

The link for direct pay to the server was taken down because it was a one-time-only link.
Maybe Dell should be hiring Steve....
Wish you luck! You are a very talented developer.
As soon as I get some funds I will throw a few bones his way. May not be much.but every little bit helps. If it wasn't for you guys development for this device would be dead. So it is greatly appreciated and anything I can do to help I will.
just sent him $60 ... hope to see him back in action soon
If he went to work for dell, he'd have to learn how to speak indian!
I'm curious what the total of donations has come to? Seems it should be close to if not past a 6 month cost of the server ($300?)
I get a bonus from work on Friday and want an update about the closeness of development continuing as I plan to contribute and will be using the same bonus to have my dell dock installed in me car. My streak will be sooo much better as a dash head unit running the latest and greatest, the current beta4 has caused me to hold off on the car install.
Thanks

Not to run too far off topic but I don't know how many times I have considered doing this with a 5 or 7 inch device. Wire the audio out to an amplifier and then out to the car speakers. Possibly use USB host to add a flashdrive or HDD for extra music storage.
Good luck! Should be a fun project

This is not accurate. Please refrain from spreading rumors.
edit:
DroidTh3ory changed his twitter handle to @KillDroidHack
DroidHive is no longer DroidHive, the main contributors have set up at least 2 new sites, one of which is Rombot.org (krackflashers.org)
Donations are donations; if you appreciate the work that someone has put into a ROM, or an app, or a website, then donate. Donations are not a service agreement. If you like a site, and then donate, but the site operator decides he can lo longer support the site, this is not 'skipping off with the donations'. The developers on DroidHive, and many other android developer sites have jobs, families, and other obligations that sometimes cause their hobby of developing for Android to take a backseat.

At least what I posted is what has been said by some of the staff on Twitter and in the chat part of the Hive, if it's inaccurate maybe you can tell us why:
1. It has been operating under http://krackflashers.com,
2. The domain is up for sale @ godaddy.com?
3. The forums are offline?
4. The DNS as well as displayed sight names have been changing daily?
5. DroidTh3ory was the site owner, is that correct? what happened to his twitter account and why has he all of a sudden gone missing from everything?
You'll admit any website displaying the above listed facts should be approached with caution.
So what's the scoop then???? If your saying it's not accurate please inform us, the Android community (especially those who have contributed money) have a right to know don't we?
KDH did not just vanish and I highly doubt donations have been stolen. Unreal.

Agreed...these people spreading rumors are idiots. What does it matter what he does with the donations anyways? People donate to him because he spends his time making amazing ROMs for people, and he has made countless amount of ROM's for us people who have no clue what we are doing. So we donate to him in appreciation for what he has done for us. So he can do whatever he wants with that money. It would be different if we donated to him in anticipation for something and then he bounced, however that is not the case.

The OP asked about the web site and I answered the question with what I have heard in the last few weeks. I'm not saying anyone shouldn't donate (just I wouldn't @ this time) or the site owner shouldn't do whatever with the money, Just that everyone should look at whats going on and make a informed decision based on what they feel is happening.
And Sorry, I didn't mean to quote you in post #17
