[Q] Noobish - CPU doesnt want to be controlled - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I'm new to here.
I have rooted my Gnote, and i dont know wether it is a full root or what.
For maximizing my battery, i underclocked my Gnote by setting max CPU freq to 800 MHz or 1 GHz using SetCPU.
But.. according to the CPU history using No-Frills app, it written there it is still clocked to 1400 Mhz and 1200 MHz sometimes.
Is this a rom problem? Or kernel ?
Btw i'm using stock and SpeedMod k3-3 kernel.

sometimes setcpu seems to not wanna start after a reboot so I really recommend you start the app and see everything is well in the app and see from there that your cpu frequency does not exceed the selected value. Otherwise I recommend using voltage control. I'm using it on speed mod and all is good for me.
Cheers.

Open super user and double check that its been granted permission. If so open your file manager and make sure you can access the data folder in root and set rw priveledges, make sure you have full root.

Overclocking notice?

Im sorry if this is in the wrong section, but when overclocking my phone I notice that it tends to stay in the highest clock possible. If I have it at 1.2 its at 1.2 for 90% of the time. How can one fix this problem? Is it a kernal or voltage control problem?

Try disabling the perflock. That will allow your device to read the frequencies. The only thing is you have to disable the perflock everytime u reboot. But it will enable your custom profiles. I had the.exact same problem.
But as always you can download a kernel with the perflock permanently disabled. But if u like your current kernel, just disable the perflock inside Setcpu

What ROM and kernel are u using? If using a kernel like hardcore's speedmod, did u make sure u r flashing the Captivate version, and not the 9000 version.

Do captivates have this perflock? I never thought they did. The last I heard it was HTC phones that had this to be disabled. I have flashed quite some ROMs and kernels, and never had a necessity to even use SetCPU.
And to honest, I would recommend NOT to use set cpu on any captivate with 2.2 or higher rom/kernel. That tends to mess up the phone.
Im gonna be using phoenix 4.5 once it finishes downloading... but as of now, im on 4.1 and with setirons kernal1.5.6

oops! sorry I didn't read carefully..you are on stock kernel..
GingerDX Overclock Module (x8oc.ko v004) give in the gdx thread should work for you..
I think you can't change the frequency of cpu
Sorry I don't know much about stock kernel
I think you should ask this question on GDx thread
1. Download DX's x8oc.ko (search for it)
2. Push the module in /system/lib/modules
3. Edit hw_config and add the following lines: insmod /system/lib/modules/x8oc.ko # x8oc.ko
4. Download a cpu manager app (i use setcpu)
5. Reboot.
Now run your cpu manager app, grant it root, and set you oc settings.

You can try. But DON'T tick "set on boot" immediately check if it's stable first. My phone crashes above 800 tho. But if yours doesn't then it's your choice.

just use freq 720+ and 800- below
it's stable
I normally use 748mhz, any higher my phone reboots after while or even straight away

just dl the x8oc.ko module and push it to /system/lib/modules. then add "insmod /system/lib/modules/x8oc.ko" in hw_config and reboot.

try root explorer. there are some free apps on the market that would let you do that. the zip didn't work for me either. had to use that method to enable oc.

AOKP with ICZen won't hold CPU values

Just as it says... Vibrant with ICZen ... if I adjust the CPU values for max/min and governer and even with or without set at boot checked, the settings revert back to stock ... any ideas? I've reflashed 4x and fresh installed... same thing

Look at the int.d files they may be over writing your settings at boot.
Vibrant 360° Productions
It would be more beneficial if you posted ICZ bugs in the forum where I actually host the rom, we have a ton of great minds over there that are more than willing to help.
That being said, what are you using to set the CPU values? If using the AOKP controls, yeah, they won't hold. Use NSTools, free from the market, and your values should stick.

help with [Kernel][03 Nov]Redux Kernel 0.8[Sense3.6 & 4]

hi all...i need ur help....after i have flashed Team Venom ViperVIVO 1.1.0 rom into my phone using cwm everything is fine...but i need to overlock my phone so that it can run faster so i have decided to flash redux kernal 0.8 directly into the phone using cwm...but after i have rebooted i dont know where to adjust the overclock speed...it is just like i have done nothing to my phone after i have flashed the redux kernal inside...anyone can help me out? thanks a lot
Download Trickster Mod app from play Store.
Using your favorite cpu tuner (mines setcpu but you can use something like antutu just search play store for cpu) set max to 1600 and min to 360 than put a screen off profile at 360 and 240 (values are approximate). Once done DO NOT check "set on boot" as incompatible setting can put you in a boot loop.

Press menu within the app and the first option is set on boot.
Forgot to mention if your on a post gingerbread rom, you can set on boot however being on gb and running cm7 I opt out, rarely seems to be a problem as my phone is almost never powered off.

i have some questions about the devil tools :
in cpu, i see min cpu 400 MHz, max 1000 MHz, and also - oc value 100%, oc target low 800 mhz, oc target high 1400,
whats the diffrents? i thought i will see a button for just - normal / fast thats all ;D
and also i saw in the recovery > devil > performance 3 options : smooth, normal, power save
whats this? is this maybe what i wrote about " normal / fast" ?
i installed the autokiller memory optimizer and also the pro from the black mart (only the pro) , and it says to me that the licence not good.. do u have any ideas to fix it?

liveOC mean liveOverClock, u need it to force da cpu thru da limit, last limit was 1.4/1.5 so use at ur own risk, u may need it to play 3D games or hardmultitasking, juz pick one sort (120 or 140) n see if u got any hang or forceboot after applying, if fone reboot thats means it cant archieve it, lowering da OC will be da option.
juz pick one choice in recovery will automatically set da minfree value.
and for third question, we dont discuss warez here, so u need to think for urself
script tweak use binary n script created n placed inside init.d folder inside system to improved lagfree minvalue, sdtweak, wifi n much more, but i dont think u need it as u already choose devil kernel, using script tweak force u to close any tweak inside built in kernel tweak (sdread ahead for instance) so just ignore it.
da choice or option inside devilish recovery quite easy to understand, so no need for manual, juz read it mate

asphalt was a games, like need for speed, da games quite heavy/ram n cpu eating app, so they discuss it there.
