camera friendly back cover for kaiser?

somewhere on the forum... i saw this picture of a tilt back cover, and the speaker was a circle, not a square, and the camera cover looked really nice, it had a metal cover to prevent scratches.
where can i find this?

I am wonder if anyone would like to join my project of making a camera friendly back cover for our Kaiser.
I am a product designer in Hong Kong and also a Kaiser user. I know a local factory that produce aftermarket cases for PDAs, to make a back cover is not a hard job at all. All I would like to know is how many Kaiser would like to have this new back cover.

I'd be interested but depends on the quality of the cover of course. Also maybe we could use some really good glass on the rear cover over the camera, such as polarized glass with anti UV and flare coating, any optician should be able to make it, but might work out a little expensive for the glass alone.

you need a photography quality glass for good quality photo. Plus in order to fit in to the original back cover, the glass needed to be really thin, that's another challenge. That's why some people in the forum prefer to take the plastic out.
regarding to the quality, the factory is a very experienced one, a simple back cover is too easy for them. All I worry is the cost and how we can spread them out evenly.

How hard would a "flip" cover be? My previous phone, Sony W810i had no protection for the lens, other than the clear plastic area for the lens. The
K750i had a "flip" cover, which fit the 810i like a glove.
How reasonable would it be, instead of a glass lens, to just produce a cover with a simple flip open or slide cover for the lens? Even with a glass area for the lens, you will still get stains, fingerprints etc.

I'd vote for a rear cover with a slide-open cover over the camera. This would allow the camera to be protected from dust and when open, don't use any additional glass, the pictures would be much sharper!
It would have to be a good design that could withstand repeated open-close cycles.

I agree. The lens glass needs some sort of protection.
Nokia's N-95 puts the lens at the hinge where no one puts their finger. The HTC Kaiser/Tilt is in a very bad spot for fingers and setting it down into junk or against a sweaty (i.e. wet) shirt pocket.
Also, you might need some bumps on the back to raise the phone a bit since they managed to put the speaker on the back which is about as effective as ....
The back cover gets a bit hot at times too. Don't know what can be done about that.

im sure. i know i saw it, but i dont know if it was edited, but it looked pretty real to me.
it looked almost identical to the kaiser's back, except instead of a square speaker, it was circle, and the camera had something better to protect it.

I meant a cover with a glass lens. Its always nice to have 2x times the protection

please let us know where you saw that cover. It would be nice if we can just pay for it.

Have you thought of using the invisible shield? this is cut with perfection, prevents scratches and marks on the device, and has a very accurate cut-out around the GPS and Camera recess.

I am not sure about putting another piece of plastic in front of the camera would be a good idea to improve the quality of the photo.
Anyway, I have contacted the factory about this project, they will let me know the cost in about two days. In the mean time, feel free to throw in new design idea.

when did i say cover the camera? i said it's been cut around it.
I doubt you will find better to be honest. Without looking silly. It looks like new all the tiem with my shield on.

no, I don't think finger nail is a good idea. If space is allowed, I hope to make a sliding door that can be opened by finger instead of finger nail.

Camera Lens covers/protection

Just wondering if anyone has them applied to your phone. I believe Nillkin sells tempered glass covers for the camera lenses. Anyone care to share pics/reviews?
My camera lens is super scratched and it affects my pictures. My warranty replacement should arrive tomorrow or soon. I don't want to keep the phone if the lens will continue to be an issue. My DUO lens and the rest of the phone are in perfect condition.

My lens also has some scratches even though I handled the phone like a raw egg... I simply don't understand why HTC uses the cheapest kind of plastic to cover the camera lens, when the rest of the phone is premium quality?!

I bought the Nillkin protector and used the camera lens protectors as well.

I put the Nillkin protectors on the device as soon as I could, dunno if they'll affect the marginal camera in this thing, but the inevitable scratches, which your experience bears out, sure would.

yeah. I complained to ATT about how it's susceptible and I shouldn't have to pay insurance for a manufacturer error blah blah. HTC referred me to the carrier I told them.

It's pretty good I'm happy with it
Except they could of made the protector a mm or so bigger and it could of covered the whole camera hole but I suspect they didn't so it would be easier to stick on

My camera lens got a large scratch on it within days of getting it, seems it's the same cheap soft plastic lens cover like all other HTC phones use, such a shame.
Lucky for me the scratch was just off the centre and doesn't seem to notice on picture quality.
To try stop any more scratches I got a martin fields screen protector, as they come with 4 x lens covers, 2 for each rear camera.
I don't notice any loss of picture quality with the protectors over the lenses, so is well worth doing.

I really wish someone would start making lens protectors on their own

How do people do this? I don't understand. I work in the oilfield... Lots of dirt, dust, and sand and have never scratched the lenses. Are you guys using the device naked? Not sure how else it would be possible.

Exactly what I want to know too. How is it possible? Never happened to any of my other phones. They wouldn't be replacing it for free if it wasn't possible.

It happens when you try to clean the lens when it has fingerprint smudges on it. Because it's inset, it's much more difficult to clean. I ordered a Nilkin tempered glass protector mainly just for the camera protection.

What are you using to clean it???!
A paper towel is *not* suitable at all!
Only a microfibre cloth OR lens pen should be used.
In a bind something soft-ish, i.e. terrycloth, could be used.
But never use a paper towel or napkin. Way too harsh for AR coatings, for example.
If the cover is loaded with silica dusts, these should be removed with a lens pen before using any kind of material to clean.
Otherwise you will wind up with tiny scratches that work similar to a diffraction grating filter creating "star" effects around pinpoint sources, lines and and other aberrations that will definitely mar your images.
The only remedy at that point is to replace the cover or remove it completely which puts the actual camera objective lens at risk of exposure.

I had an M8 replaced (unrelated issue) which had a bunch of scratches on the main lens cover. I treated it exactly the same as my M7 which didn't get scratches in the 6 months I owned it. I defs think HTC has changed something.
Anyway I got a lens protector with the Nillkin screen protector I bought for the replacement handset, but I mucked up the install so I took it off. Using the Nillkin one as a template, I cut out a circle from a spare M7 screen protector I had lying around. It's not pretty but it does the job perfectly.

I used to use paper towels to clean my camera lens, but after reading about how you can remove slight imperfections and scratches by using abrasive materials, I've switched to sandpaper almost exclusively. I tried using a napkin once, but the barbecue sauce (I thought the napkin had dried) got stuck in between the cracks of the lens and device. Needless to say, I don't use napkins anymore.

I've never heard of a "lens pen" as I have the photographic skill of an untrained rock, but luckily am familiar with microfiber cloths. However I don't see the value in carrying one around as I had no such need with my GS3, a device made almost entirely of cheap plastic. I had no issue using the cloth from my T-shirt and pants pockets (soft, light material) to clean the screen and lens.
The current scratching is minimal and is not affecting my photos. But I know that unless I act now I will have those issues you mentioned. Whether its between buying a lens pen or carrying a microfiber cloth around, I'd much rather just slap a protector on it and call it a day.

A case that's raised more than the camera is what I'm doing. Have done this for years without ever having my lens scratch.

When I pick mine up from the shop I'll be leaving the plastic on - my S4 has a gaping scratch across its camera lense!

Normally there should be no need to worry unless you intend to drag your phone across a rocky road. It's protected by a veryt scratchresistant glass, simlar to sapphire glass. It can stand a heavy beating and still perform.
The only real problem is fat from your fingers smearing onto the protective glass, this will cause weird looking arefacts with highlights so make sure you keep it clean.

Correct. Good protection. Or you could get the Nillkin Amazing H+ 9H Hardness Anti-Explosion Tempered Glass*for the note 4, it comes with 2 mini tempered glass camera lense protectors

Though I have not used any case or screen protector for the front screen, I have cut exact size glossy screen protector for the camera lens. I developed lots of scratches in S2 lens, from then on I started protecting camera lenses.

If you look carefully the platic frame around the glass is just slightly above the glass so really the glass doesn't make contact with a flat surface

The Samsung s-view case is just big enough to keep the lens from touching. It's a good option if you are concerned about the lens getting scratched and want front of phone protection.

If the plastic cover doesn't affect the photos then chances are the odd scratch won't either..

Wife has S5 and glass on the lens seems pretty tough! No scratches yet!

When not using my Note 4, I shoot pictures with high end Nikon glass (lenses). Some will say to put a plain UV filter on the lens as a means of protection, never go naked. Others will ask why would one put an $80 piece of glass in front of finely tuned and crafted $2,500 piece of glass? Additionally, all those large sport photographer lenses you see taking photos.......no filters are made that size, they use hoods which extend several inches from the front of the lens as a means of protection. Now, given the camera in the Note 4 is not a high end DLSR you may not see the difference all that much, depending on the shot. However adding some form of adhoc protector over the camera will certainly cause some form of photo degradation.
If you have a phone case where the camera lens is recessed you should be perfectly fine if: (1) you pay attention how and where you place it down and (2) keep it out of your pants, bags...etc that hold keys and your loose change..etc.
Remove any added plastic or glass in front of your lens; take clearer and sharper pictures!

Well, my first tip would be to not place your note 4 on a textured surface, press it down into the textured surface and then rubbing it vigorously against it, with your pressure RIGHT on the lens.
Other than that, just use it normally. Dont keep it in a bag of quarters, dont hack at it with nails, dont keep it with your keys in a pocket... The usual nobrainer things.
Should be totally fine. When I place it on a table, the lens doesnt touch the table.

/thread - really, the glass on the camera lens is the strongest glass you will find on your mobile device - applies to any phone.

Couldn't resist...cut out an extra screen protector and stuck it on the camera glass lol

Anything you put on camera glass would mess with Zeiss coating. It's counter productive tbh to pay for a feature (i.e. Zeiss coating) but then handicap it. I'd just get a good case with raised edges around cameras to protect and leave the glass alone

Lens glass and coating is extremely important for the quality of the light that passes through. By putting another layer of glass or plastic or whatever on top of already coated and optimized glass, you are interfering with flow of light

Agree.. I have already stick a transparent film on my rear camera.. no issue. happy with my Xperia 1 II

I bought this glass camera protector from Japanese Amazon. Shipping was actually really fast to the US. It fits the camera module perfectly. It does attract fingerprints a bit more than the camera glass itself but it's very easy to wipe clean.

Question S21 Ultra Rear Camera - Phantom Black - Any Damage Naked ?

Just wondering if anyone with the Phantom Black S21 Ultra has noticed any scratches, chips, flaking paint or other damage to the flat black painted area of the camera hump after months of use?
Just installed another glass protector and wondering if I even need this this thing?

Not sure how resistant to scratches it is. After watching JerrRigEverything's durability test video, it appears that the aluminum housing of the camera is more scratch prone than the glass back (makes sense as aluminum is softer than glass). Didn't want to find out the hard way, so slapped on a skin on the phone two days after I got it. Doesn't add bulk (phone is too big for me to use with a case) and the peace of mind that the underlying surfaces are scratch proof is just priceless.
But every once in a while when i change skins (I like to change up the appearance every month or so) I marvel at how beautiful the Phantom black color looks in its pristine naked glory. Wish I was brave enough to rock it butt naked, but I'd probably have a meltdown if a scratch appeared anywhere.
So it's a skins and a liquid skin protector sandwich for me... at all times.

Spigen Platinum screen protector and clear back case! Shows off the Phantom Black while still being protected. Perfect for me! Never naked... That's bad mojo.

You need a good case or the phone will get destroyed.
The built in cam lens protector is replaceable. Any additional optical elements will degrade the image.

oh thankfully I am not the only. I do really thought that I am just careless enough to have this scratch thing on flat area on my back camera. felt relieved now that it is easily scratch. So I guess need to find a protector on this part now but really got no problem since the lenses are really fine.

yeah thanks for this but I am fully aware about it and since from s9 plus to my s21 I never installed protection of my screen and camera and everything is fine. it is just that this s21 flat black area on camera bump scratch easily and it is a bit annoying like what the OP said but got no problem with the glasses

A good case prevents direct contact.
I rarely even have to clean mine. After over 1.5 years the plastic factory lense protector has no scratches or marring. Simply clean with a dry microfiber cloth...
One drop onto concrete and a corner or display hit can destroy a phone. Internal components including chipsets can be destroyed by high G impacts. A case spreads out the G loading to within tolerable levels.

I just can't bear the color nor brightness shift with protector installed. I just rely all the protection with my case, actually bought a bunch of screen protectors already before my phone arrived and yeah didn't installed it .

I've been using Gorilla IQ Sheild for over a year. A wet apply plastic that holds up very well. After a year the first one had very slight yellowing. Good for at least 6 months. Just don't stretch it, at all and make sure there's no lint or dust on the display before applying (it will create unremovable bubbles). Because it's a wet apply you have more leeway placing it but try to get it close when you first lay it down, tic-tok...
Works well on a curved screen and sets up completely in a couple hours. If it lifts up on a corner as long as you don't get dust under or stretch it, you can successfully push back in place. Pretty cool, self healing and cheap.
The Bolt case is a tight fit so placement is critical. I wet sand the inner surfaces of the case corner with #600 grit to make sure it's smooth.
Bottom of the phone goes in first, then both top corners are snapped in place in unison. Done.
The outer shell snaps on easily. Botton side goes on first but come off last during break down.
Every 2 months or so I disassemble the case to clean the interior to prevent grit from marring the side rail finish.
Screen protectors are a curse to apply. That's one reason I like this brand so much. It's fairly forgiving... and cheap if you goof up. So far even though I have extras, I've gotten on right the first time. This last one though I missed 3 pieces of lint that were from my microfiber cloth, my bad

I wish they would just make the whole phone thick enough so there were no camera bumps whatsoever. The "glass" covering/protecting the camera elements can be made of scratch resistant sapphire. With the increased interior volume comes a two working day battery, ~6500mAh.
One can dream, right?

At one point Apple was considering using a sapphire covered display.
For the camera not sure sapphire has the needed optical qualities... likely doesn't.

Optical quality is fine as in real world use it will NEVER be optimal with handling and fod contamination.
Apple's covers claim to be sapphire but not a good quality such as the crystal on the SS watches.
In any case it would be far better to have the entire thing smooth instead of individual lens protrusions. The shaver look started with the 11 pro and continues with the 12 pro series. Looks like the 13 pro they will stick out even further!
Oh and bring back the ceramic backs on the higher end models! The 512GB and 1TB S10+ models with ceramic back were the bomb!

It can not be smooth. 3 individual lens.
Law of refraction... for every optical layer you add you create more refaction. High dollar multiple element lense systems go to great lengths to minimize and correct for this effect.
The added element also can create internal reflections that are pure demons.
Because of the very limited space using curvature on the optics is also limited as is diameter. That also means minimum corrective elements. It's not uncommon to see a dozen expensive optical elements in a pro lense. Just one element is more expensive than the whole cam phone to produce.
There are a lot of conflicts and compromises...

There's little doubt sapphire is inferior to the specialized glasses used for advance camera lenses or even a good Heliopan UV filter for anti reflective and light transmission qualities.

They can definitely have a single cover over everything and have great results. I have a tempered glass cover over my 12 Pro Max array, makes it super easy to clean and pictures turn out fine even at night with bright pinpoint light sources.
Internal reflections are already ridiculous stock. Many photos have to be touched up and video is even worse before CV19 and live gigs were a thing.
The other optical parameters are on a level that isn't going to matter much on such tiny phone sensors and optics without making them prohibitively expensive. We don't need optics with high spec scratch/dig qualities!
And while sapphire may be inferior to glass, as soon as the glass is scratched even at a micron level, its optical quality is far worse. In either case one can see it's a moot point in real world as many photos/videos are witnessed with heavy optical aberrations on pinpoint sources because the lens covers are smudged to hell and back. Don't even get me started on vertical video syndrome! ;-)
A last thing I will add, the OnePlus 9 pro did not exhibit the reflections like my S21 Ultra or 12 Pro Max. I doubt the fact that having Hasselblad's name on it has much to do with things but it's definitely noticeable. Both the 12 Pro Max AND 1+ 9 Pro ruin the audio on video with awful zoom feature. At least allow users to turn that off!
