some apps requires root for it to works.
We don't know if it will be a locked bootloader. Let's hope it isn't and Moto is keeping to their promise to "work with both parties":
http://briefmobile.com/motorola-well-work-with-developers
I would love to know this too when the information is avaliable, i'm tring to get rid of my iphone to leave the big brother. If moto is going to pulling this crap then i'm going to get a htc or something else.
at&t will probably ask to be locked bootloader since at&t is pure evil
I don't understand why it seems to be such a big deal that Motorola has locked bootloader, since even the Nexus S has one?

Is there some sublety I'm missing? Is the "moto lock" harder to bypass than the "Sammy lock"?
What about the ATT and Verizon whole upgrade policy now. What the hell is going on there. i hate these companies

Yes, the "fastboot oem unlock" command only works on select devices mainly the Nexus One and Nexus S (probably a few other ones too like the milestone)
Most other phones have locked down bootloader by the manufacturer and do not unlock in the same way. You can take the Sony Xepria as an example of the worst possible scenario for having a locked phone
If Moto doesn't release the unlocking procedure, it will take time and in some case will not be possible to unlock the device and there won't be any Dev community actively working on the device.
Honestly they should all release the locked & unlocked version. You want peace of mind you get the locked version. You want to risk brick'ing your phone you get the unlocked and the carrier/manufacturer don't not to deal with you.
IMO this is who it should be.
yea..i am excited about this product and posted over in the Gtab forum (since Gtab is the WHOLE of my android experience being a 2+year iphone user)...and immediately was told "nope, not going to get one as it will most likely be locked".
Understood and appreciated but...
Well...look, i don't mind locked if the darn thing ships with working software and has at least 90% of the functionality i want out of the box. For example..as boring as the iphone has gotten, it works so i am ok with it being a walled garden.
In the case of the Gtab, its VERY intensively being rooted and and thats a good thing..because it was A NON FUNCTIONAL pos out of the box so modding it was a MUST.
Likewise if the Atrix works well out of the box ill be fine with it..if it doesnt work so great and is locked down..i either wont be buying one or ill be taking it back within the 3 day period.....
We will see i guess as i am kinda tired of how limited the iphone really is. I want an SD card and the ability to side load working stuff without using itunes. I want an HDMI output that i can watch movies on the hotel flat screen tvs just by plugging in my phone to it. I want to be able to get lap top functionality and/or use it as a mobile hot spot. I want to be able to hack in and get full use of tv.com and hulu. I want my sling box to work. I want to stream blue tooth to my car along with pandora and have blue tooth head phone funcionality, i want lots of cool easy to get and use apps. I want something i can get a keyboard to for content creation or at least give me a slide out keyboard (lets face it, touch screen is not as good for creating content no matter HOW good you are at the onscreen touch style key pads).
The atrix looks to fit the bill where as my Gtab is having to pull %75 of what i WISH my iphone could do for me (netflix being the exception of something my iphone does, that droid wont do). But for watching movies/tv, pluggin in a key board and typing, and surfing on a larger touch screen i could not be happier and am glad i avoided an ipad......I would also like better MS office/exchange support but think the atrix is an over all better solution than going with a win7 phone just for that one piece of the picture...
The hardware is there...the connectivity is there. It is 100% all going to come down to software and execution to determine if this thing is the solution i hope it will be versus a complete waste of time and energy (in which case it's... Samsung Infuse vs an HTC ((and continuing using the gtab )) i guess....)....

Yea, and installing apps from other than the market probably wont be allowed either.
Luckily that was all easy to fix on the Galaxy S, it was so easy to be rooted and load custom ROMS. Heck, there was a root procedure out for it before it was even released officially.
I'm with Allen. As long as it works, little need to mod it anyway.
The only mod that is a must is rooting to simply remove all the ATT junk.
But how can you remove system data( Att junk) if you can not have r/w access to system.

Nah, root and rom allows you to make it your *****. Otherwise your just dryhumping. Let us hope the smart guys make progress on this. I will not buy any phone that does not have developer support here. That one thing gives a phone a lot of extra legs and everything between here and end of life is the better for it. I'm a shoe in to buy this one if there are no other more worthy hardware options coming soon but I'll stick with my N1 if it cant be made to raise the whit flag until the next thing comes. Agreed. I sincerely hope moto doesn't bone us. Although i'm confused. from what I read the Droid X had a huge hullaballo about the efuse, however i've also read that there's no efuse with the tegra2, and the Droid X has custom roms. So what would a locked bootloader be? Are people referring to and "unlockable" locked bootloader?
I just want to see if the Atrix has wifi tether out of the box or if i'll have to *****-mount some other solution (IE; PDAnet). I really hope it either is out of the box or someone gets it running shortly after. PdaNet just did not seem to get on well with my ipad, and my captivate and streak both worked extremely well with the one built into 2.2

Custom roms built on motorola's kernels. That's the big thing turn off with the DX/2/2Global/Milestone/everything besides the OG Droid.
That does make sense. But can a custom rom built on motos kernel enable items like wifi tether?
I doubt ATT will alow wifi tether out the box unless they can control it and charge you for it

That I understand, even expect. However my streak and captivate were able to get it via roms, I was curious if that will be possible with a locked bootloader on the atrix. I'm not overly familiar with the development scene beyond loading roms and flashing kernals (ie I can do it but couldn't make my own). So I don't know if being limited to the moto kernal would restrict you from having wifi tether and was hoping someone more experienced could answer that one.
I think yes..

At least for Milestone is Ok, nadlabak CM6 for example work really fine regarding tethering (USB and WiFi)
Let's hope a master piece like Atrix could be rooted and improved (if that's possible)
hi guys,
with the demise of my beloved HD2 going the poor way of the dodo and the fact that for the last year ive stuck with WP7, i decided to bite the bullet and spend a "fraction" more (?!?) on a real WP7 device, aka the Focus S rather than the "slightly" cheaper HD2
So anyhow, since this is a somewhat smaller community than the HD2 i figured id say hello to you all.
now my device is winging its way over the pond at the mo so i dont actually have it but im interested in knowing what we DONT know about it.
yup, i see plenty of threads on inter-op and dev unlock, SIM unlock, de branding, MMS AND ICS im interested in what doesnt work correctly or the way we want it
Everything except ICS worked out of the box for me so I ran WinTT to enable internet sharing with the default settings and it worked like a charm. Welcome aboard I just got my Focus S about a week ago as well.

cheers mate, looks like its going to be about a week before I get my hands on it, kind of hoping the HD2 holds out that long!
I see DFT gave the Original Focus some of their magic, Is there any news of it happening here as well?
Id read a review that said the Focus S had a dim screen, is that true, or are they just being picky?
No custom ROM's for the Focus S yet as there is no unlocked bootloader
But you can use WP7 Root Tools for root access (the developer is also close to releasing a version enabling full native access, so custom ROM's wouldn't really be needed after that anyway).
The auto display intensity setting makes the screen maybe a tad darker in a dark room than you'd like it to but I don't find it too bad. You can set the brightness manually or turn the auto-intensity off. When you're in sunlight, the screen is definitely bright enough to easily read. I guess the review you read was written by some idiot who doesn't even know how to change brightness settings lol.

ah auto brightness! there was me thinking it was just a HD2 issue, cool, that's good to know thanks.
as for custom ROMs I agree, the need for changing ROMs is a lot less than it used to be although from time to time some "patches" will only work if cooked in from the start even on a fully unlocked device.
im not too bothered about custom ROMS to be honest, if I was id have brought another HD2, but there are some very handy tools that would be useful but needs full unlock
So are there many folk on this forum then, lots of views on this post but only 1 person replied
I'm not sure.. Haven't posts here much myself.. I stick to the main WP7 areas mostly

So has anyone seen or had any issues with the i937 getting interop unlocked AFTER the zune 8107 update?
ive seen plenty of posts on the omnia 7/W not being interop unlockable after this 8107 update or more specifically the samsung part of it, (cab sending MS 8107 works fine)
and ive seen posts saying that other samsung devices may be effected but ive not found any posts of a Focus S having the problem, is this just because of a much more limited userbase or is it actually cool.
The more i read the more im starting to feel uncomfortable if it has been 8107 updated PRIOR to interop unlock, as far as i can tell, if it is then its essentially locked down solid.
My device came to me (used) with 8107 already on it. I used the WindowBreak method and it was interop unlocked in minutes.

cheers for that, there are still some great developers on here, but you are correct, its moved a lot further to the Green Robot in recent years. Something to remember is that it wasn't that long ago that we didn't have devices other than HTC, which does provide a bit of historical context to why the remaining WP developers mostly target HTC.
ah damn it, they sent me the wrong phone, anyone have any questions they want answered about the Focus Flash?, you've got a few hours before its getting returned.
How is the screen on the Focus Flash compared to Super Amoled Plus on the S?
Finally I have a Focus S in my possession! I don't have the battery yet and my IMEI unlock code hasn't arrived just yet either but with a bit of luck ill be up and running very soon!
Now what? well theres the mine field of upgrades to navigate but more importantly is to start speaking to some developers, esp some of the gods on here to see what, if anything we can do to help our own cause, lets face it folks, due to the AT&T lock in there aren't anywhere near enough people out there for developers to want to spend a lot of time on this so if we want unlocked devices etc we will likely need to chip in together to make it work, what do you guys think?
With screen lock disabled (no password/pin/pattern/face), I find that slide to unlock does not work. What I mean is that a simple touch (anywhere), unlocks the device.
Is this normal behaviour ?
Thats is wierd, you should still need to slide somewhere ... can u post a quick video ?
You sure you're not sliding somewhere? You don't have to slide from the lock, you can pull up from the middle left of the screen or wherever you please..
This does sound odd if you're just tapping . Like the v-b-n said, is there a chance you can post a video?

I believe Tasker needs accessiblity for access app information like K9 mail. I can probably live without that, but Pebble notifications, that's hard to ignore because the watch itself is useless without it.

Quite interesting... Odd to see Pebble breaking it..
I'd rather live with tap to unlock than without Pebble.
Maybe try widgetlocker or try go locker with some kind of sense theme.
No need for root. Won't be as seamless, might take up more battery, but you get proper functionality
A little off topic, what do you think of Pebble?
Personally, I think the functionality on paper is pretty good, but i dont see myself wearing it because of the looks (i like more circular, military style, all black, discrete stealth watches)..
And then just wait for HTC or Pebble dw

The watch is good. It's my third smart watch. I have a MetaWatch digital and Analog as well. For a more elegant look, I prefer the Metawatch analog, but for a day to day @ work and stuff, the pebble is great. I hardly use my Metawatch digital. The pebble feels very...plastic. Not very good build quality if im being honest, but Metawatch...amazing build quality. Feels proper.
I found a work around for it. It requires root access, Tasker and Secure Settings.
What I did was create a Context that is activated when the display is on and then using Secure Settings, disable all Accessibility for all events. As an exit task, I re-enable all my accessibility apps.
Now when i turn on my display, I actually have to slide to unlock.
I know Samsung's fingerprint scanners have left much to be desired and I hear or see a lot of negative feedback about it in the past and some present but supposedly it was much improved on the Note 4.
I've only had mine for a week but can say I am pleasantly surprised as it has performed much better then expected. I did have low expectations and on the S5 I tested for a while it was mediocre at best with frequent bouts of re-scans but on this one it works great.
I've use mine for lock screen and have probably got a couple hundred tests now and maybe I've had to redo a scan... 5-7 times? For me that's more then acceptable...and the times it fails it was more just me going fast or bad alignment.
All in all I'm very happy and will continue to use it.
I know there are a lot of variables but just curious...how's it working for you and are there tips for others on how to make it more successful?
Now I disable lock screen with fingerprint this need to keep stable phone and not always is possible. I'm using only to lock some apps.
Using it to lock some more personal apps but stopped using it for unlocking the phone because its a hassle really.

Mine actually works pretty well. On else you figure out how to swipe your finger, it works well. The problem is that I don't like the swipe motion, so I don't use it, but when I tested it, it worked well. I wish they would have implemented the scanner into the heart monitor on the back.
Works good once you get the hang of it. Small learning curve coming from TouchID but it is definitely much better than the S5 implementation IMO.
Guess it's not for everyone.
Definitely better then the S5 by a mile. Just surprised so many have issues I guess.
Yes the scanning method itself could be better but I think it's the "registering" or setup of one's print that is causing the issues for most.

you can only register 3 fingerprints ?
I think samsung made a massive mistake in the finger scanner and I'm obviously comparing it to iphone 6 plus. iPhone 6 plus scanner works seamlessly very single time as it's design and method isn't swipe but touch based. Just like Htc one max finger print scanner samsung idea is flawed difficult to get spot on most times.
Why swipe when a simple touch will do, simples really.:silly:
Wake up samsung before you lose more customers who are getting fed up of their slow reactions to consumer demands.

When you register a fingerprint, it has you swipe it 20 times (two groups of 10). You can add 2 additional fingerprints, each of which need the same registration process. Using the same finger and motion for all 3 fingerprint registrations makes unlocking via the scanner much easier.
Good for me but I want more usefull, convernient: sign in any where, lock/unlock any apps by finger.

Let's think with other way..
Have you seen LG promotion video that said knock code are safer than fingerprint scanner ?
Based on my view, the fingerprint in note 4 and s5 is far safer (because you need to swipe it in right registered angle, ppl who don't know what angle we register won't get easy access to our phone.
And someone post in another thread here, that swipe fingerprint scanner is more secure than touch fingerprint scanner.
So it's just personal opinion, want to choose more ease of use or prefer to safety

Just make sure to disable the function that wipes your phone if you fail to unlock your phone successfully after x amount of times Nothing happened to me, but I noticed it was checked by default x_x;;
The finger print scanner has been working fine for me, but it does seem to be a tad sensitive.
My advice would be to swipe your finger or thumb in a manner similar to how you might do it without thinking when you are registering your fingerprint, if that makes sense?

Sick of this damn call timer when trying to use other apps during a call.
Although that there isnt the main reason why I'm getting rid of this phone, I'll go ahead and add it to the ever growing list of reasons why I'm dumping it and getting a Nexus 6. Screw LG and their locked down pile of garbage. Sad thing is, it's so much wasted potential.
I love it when a new device comes out, and XDA becomes riddled with whiney posts about "this" or "that" which users say they 'hate' or 'can't stand'. Okay, so there's no publicized root method yet, deemed safe for consumerism, but once that's released I'm sure that every little quarky nuance will have a method to remove, hide, or alter in some way. The call timer has an option for hiding in the LG G3 via G3 Tweaksbox. With that example, I stand confident that this phone will have some type of similarities to, as I mentioned, "deal" with the things people complain about. Fact is, this phone is not impressively different from the G3, and there are no real profoundly engineered improvements made in the G4. You may ask, "Apex, y u bye did fone den?" Good question. My answer is this, I like LG's products and I appreciate the work developers are able to do, in order to make something good, great. So, in the meamtime, until root is available, you won't hear me having a hissy fit about (insert whatever) things. Samsung isn't for me, HTC is bunk, Motorola, well... been there, done that. I think most folks would respect those complaints be made on Reddit, or somewhere besides the place that developers afford us the grace of enjoying what they do for the community, free of charge.

I'm not sure if you figured it out, but since we have root, you can download app ops from play store. Go to the phone section and disable draw on top. It will stop the timer. And so far I have not noticed anything wrong.

I checked and I still get the dialog box, make sure the option is checked in the call settings. I'm not sure what you mean about the notification bar, but I can drag down and click on the call, which brings me back to the call.

Thanks for this
Seems like a really silly reason to get rid of an otherwise awesome phone...
What's funny is that the current root methods as dangerous as they are. Are no more dangerous then when I had my Evo4g, and that team didn't have something like "OEM Unlock" to make it easier. No risk, no reward.
Not to mention that you can drag that icon anywhere on the screen so i dont see how it can be so intrucive during other app usage. Also why dont you just talk on the phone, your on a call, pay attention and stop playing with other apps, real easy
